The News

Normal viewing figures for Series 13 so far.

Review story this episode: Flux Chapter Three: Once, Upon Time

We're halfway through Series 13 and it's not looking good for The Doctor and her companions. Time storms, Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, a previous incarnation and a mysterious figure not happy with The Doctor. Yes, it is as confusing as it sounds. Try and keep up!

Woks at the Ready for War of the Sontarans12 Nov 202101:25:18
The News

No news this week.

Review story this episode: Flux Chapter Two: War of the Sontarans

Can this second episode carry the momentum from last week and produce another good ep? Lots of Sontar-ha! and the big question still remains... (no, not "What is the flux?" although that is a good question) "Who is Swarm?".

Coming next week: Flux Chapter Three: Once, Upon Time

It looks like the storyline with Swarm and Azure is heating up and there's definitely a Weeping Angels connection in here somewhere. Join us next week for our thoughts.

Thank you all for listening to this week's episode and remember to follow the podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts so you don't miss an episode when they land every Friday. Stay cool and until next week - Allons-y!

Review story this episode: The Gunfighters

"So fill up your glasses..." meh, we'll stop that already. The First Doctor's Western romp is a strange old story but what did we make of it? A creative effort or wild wild fail?

The News

After closing its doors in Cardiff permanently the same company is now taking it on tour from March next year in the UK with international dates being announced in the future. Series 13 Update and We Wrap Up S2 of Torchwood with Exit Wounds24 Sep 202101:39:33
The News

Some cast members were spotted out and about in Cardiff, including a returning face, and John Bishop has wrapped filming.

Review story this episode: Torchwood: Exit Wounds

It feels like a right old slog but we've finally made it to the end of Series 2. What did we think of this often liked finale? We're not crying, you are.

Coming soon: The Gunfighters

When we return, we'll be heading over to the First Doctor's era for a Wild West-themed adventure in the town of Tombstone. And all The Doctor wanted was to get his toothache sorted. Typical.

Adam is off on holiday for the next couple of weeks so our next "proper" episode will be on Friday 15th October. In the meantime keep an eye on the socials as there may be a couple of bonus episodes dropping.

Thank you all for listening to this week's episode and remember to follow the podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts so you don't miss an episode when they land every Friday. Stay cool and until next time - Allons-y!

Hey, Who fans and welcome to Episode 400.

We're back to reviewing individual episodes and this week we're diving into the latest episode from Season One - Dot and Bubble, a dark episode influenced by Black Mirror. Did it succeed in that or was it a Tractator-sized flop?

BFI Round Up and The Cult of Skaro Get Comfy in NYC17 Sep 202101:38:39
The News

Star of Arachnids in the UK Tanya Fear has been found after a missing person scare and Adam runs down his visit to see Evil of the Daleks at the BFI.

Review story this episode: Daleks in Manhattan & Evolution of the Daleks

Hard to believe but we're down to our last few Tenth Doctor stories now, we know, sad face. Until then let's (web) swing over to NYC in the 1930s to see what those Daleks are up to and why are there human pigs knocking about?

Coming next week: Torchwood: Exit Wounds

Yes! The train is pulling up at the last station for TW Series 2, phew! Exit Wounds is the last story and after the final moments of the last story, Fragments, we're excited to see how this series finishes up.

Chris Eccleston Stays Salty and We Review a Torchwood Origin Story10 Sep 202101:19:30
The News

Chris Eccleston is still adamant about not appearing on-screen as The Doctor while dropping some details about his fallout with RTD and we sadly say goodbye to Tony Selby aka Sabalom Glitz.

Review story this episode: Torchwood: Fragments

We can almost reach out and touch the end of Series 2, so close! In this penultimate episode, the Torchwood team are down but not out as we get treated to some flashbacks showing the origin of Torchwood Three and its current members. Is this a decent story by Chibbers or a lemon?

Coming next week: Daleks in Manhattan & Evolution of the Daleks

We've not reviewed a Tenth Doctor story since June and we're nearing the end of his stuff now so let's dive in and see what this is all about. Daleks, obviously but we've not seen it in a while so the rest is fuzzy.

Thank you all for listening to this week's episode and remember to follow the podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts so you don't miss an episode when they land every Friday. Stay cool and until next week - Allons-y!

We're Back Talking eBooks and The Fifth Doctor's First Outing in Castrovalva03 Sep 202101:56:06

A great ebook has landed from John Collier taking a look at the Doctor Who exhibitions in Blackpool from the 70s, 80s and later in the mid-2000s. Blackpool Remembered is available to download for free here.

Review story this episode: Castrovalva

It's been ages since we reviewed any Fifth Doctor stories and as a sort of follow up to our Tom Baker month, back in April where we finished on Logopolis, what do we think of Peter Davison's first adventure?

Coming next week: Torchwood: Fragments

An explosion rocks the TW team and we get an insight into each of their history joining TW and their various alien encounters.

Thank you all for listening to this week's episode and remember to follow the podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts so you don't miss an episode when they land every Friday. Stay cool and until next week - Allons-y!

Gwen Goes Up Against Jack as the Rift is Misbehaving20 Aug 202101:27:37
The News

As bare as a freshly mopped TARDIS floor.

Review story this episode: Torchwood: Adrift

Gwen is not happy with Jack who seems to be hiding something as the people of Cardiff disappear. PC Andy is back who tries to get Gwen to care once more but has she been embedded within Torchwood's elitist "alien-only" point of view for too long now?

Coming in two weeks: Castrovalva

It's been SO LONG since we watched any Davison stories for review so let's start at the beginning with his first full outing as The Doctor, kicking off Series 19.

Thank you all for listening to this week's episode and remember to follow the podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts so you don't miss an episode when they land every Friday. We're away next week so no episode but we're back the week after so stay cool and until then - Allons-y!

The News

We finally got the confirmation of the news we've known about for months - Jodie and Chibbers are leaving the show at the end of next year. We give you our thoughts.

Review story this episode: Torchwood: From Out of the Rain

Scary looking circus peeps pop up this time as the Night Travellers try to steal the lives of Cardiff folk. Should be a good creepy one this so what did we think?

Coming next week: The Bells of Saint John

Remember when they tried the new format of splitting a series in two with series seven? Yeah, this is the "mid-series-welcome-back" episode with The Doctor and Clara up against some unruly wifi. Happens to us all at times.

The News

Finally, some news on Series 13. We chat about the recent Doctor Who panel at Comic Con and the subsequent teaser.

Review story this episode: The Dalek Invasion of Earth

No, not Mr Cushing, but the Hartnell six-parter that has the TARDIS team on the ropes. Robomen, Slyther, bombs, romance and that speech. Lots to take in but what did we think?

Coming next week: Torchwood: From Out of the Rain

Torchwood goes a bit weird next week as the mysterious Night Travellers emerge from an old cinema to cause horror on the streets of Cardiff.

Thank you all for listening to this week's episode and remember to follow the podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts so you don't miss an episode when they land every Friday. Stay cool and until next week - Allons-y!

It Wouldn't Be a Torchwood Wedding Without a Weird Alien Pregnancy23 Jul 202101:10:39
The News

We didn't mention it in the "proper" news segment but The Sarah Jane Adventures is heading to BritBox next month - yay!

Review story this episode: Torchwood - Something Borrowed

On the surface, this is a crazy idea and the trailer makes this ep look a tad naff but... what do we actually think of Gwen's alien pregnancy, shapeshifters and the bants between parents?

Coming next week: The Dalek Invasion of Earth

Back to the 60s next week for an important story involving The Doctor's nemesis race of space cans, a sad departure and potentially one of Who's most famous speeches.

Thank you all for listening to this week's episode and remember to follow the podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts so you don't miss an episode when they land every Friday. Stay cool and until next week - Allons-y!

The News

Olly Alexander quashes rumours of his casting as the next Doctor and we say goodbye to Jackie Lane.

Review story this episode: Planet of the Spiders

We're off to Metebelis III to chase after that sodding blue crystal to stop the eight legs from dominating the universe. A decent send-off for Jon Pertwee or like the Whomobile is it style over substance?

Coming next week: Torchwood: A Day in the Death

Owen doesn't look too good as he seeks absolution. Will the lonely girl on the rooftop help him, or will it be a mission to retrieve an alien device that is proving more lethal by the second?

How Did This Happen? Happy Episode 300!19 Feb 202101:25:14

Yes Who fans, episode 300 is here!

It seems strange to be talking about our three hundredth episode, in a way it's not that many compared to many other podcasts and indeed, a few other Doctor Who podcasts but for us personally it's an achievement we're proud of.

Adam and I started waffling about Who back in 2014 and with the odd week here and there we've consistently managed to record every week. I can tell you that's not easy. With our jobs, family, travel, illness, the pandemic etc it can be difficult but... we love Doctor Who and that's really all the motivation we need.

To celebrate this we've plucked our amazing writers from the comfort of their keyboards to participate in a round table discussion about our fav era's, our thoughts on recent Doctor Who and it's future plus a couple of hilarious digressions along the way.

We could have chatted for hours and we'll definitely get them back on but for now, grab a drink and enjoy as The Big Blue Box Podcast waffles on into episode 300.

Thank you so much to all of you for listening. Seriously, thank you.

Garry

Tartan Attire, Nessy and Unit - It's Our Review of Terror of the Zygons22 Jan 202101:43:56
The News

Nothing this week.

Review story this episode: Terror of the Zygons

Ah the start of Series 13, arguably Tom Baker's finest series and it sure does pack in some great stories. Do the Zygons provide enough shape-changing threat to make this a classic or does ole' Nessy bring the score down?

Coming next week: Torchwood - Reset

Martha Jones is back and working with Torchwood as we approach the half-way point of Series 2. Mysterious deaths as usual but how can Martha help?

Thank you all for listening to the show. Until next time have a great week, take care of yourselves, stay safe, healthy and remember – Allons-y!
