686. Causes of a Sluggish Thyroid27 Sep 202100:28:26

According to Dr. Martin, there is not an organ more misdiagnosed than the thyroid gland. Your thyroid controls your metabolism, like the gas pedal in your car, but it never acts independently on its own. It's subject to a lot of things going on in your body.

A recent study is showing that your thyroid will not work properly without proper levels of selenium or iodine. The study has prompted Dr. Martin to talk about the causes of a sluggish thyroid. He brings up 17 unexplained symptoms that could point to a sluggish thyroid.

Don't miss today's informative episode!

685. Cut It Out and DIM It Out24 Sep 202100:25:43

A study published in July in the Journal of Neurology is showing how cancer slowed down rapidly when sugar and carbs were eliminated from the diet. The research was done by a cancer biologist studying aggressive brain and spinal cord cancer.

Dr. Martin shares how we are all battling cancer on a daily basis. It takes 5 years for cancer to grow to the size of a pen tip, but what accelerates that growth is sugar! Cancer needs fuel to grow, and sugars and carbs cause it to, "grow, grow, grow," as Dr. Martin says.

What we need to do is cut out the carbs and the sugars and DIM out your estrogen. DIM is short for diindolylmethane and it helps balance estrogen levels in your body. You're never going to get away from estrogen, but Dr. Martin shares ways to reduce your exposure to it.

684. Vitamin Z Is for Zinc23 Sep 202100:26:09

One of the big things we're seeing in this day and age is a deficiency in zinc, or vitamin Z as Dr. Martin likes to call it. If you eat red meat, vitamin S, you're getting zinc and you don't need to worry about taking it as a supplement.

So where do we see zinc deficiencies? In those who primarily eat plant-based diets. Vegans and vegetarians are at risk because there's not enough zinc in vegetables. Humans need to be eating from the animal kingdom to get zinc.

Listen to today's episode to learn how your immune system doesn't work without zinc. Dr. Martin also shares two other groups of people that are susceptible to zinc deficiencies. Don't miss this informative episode!

682. Signs You Have Leaky Gut21 Sep 202100:29:31

A study out of the University College in London, England is showing that patients with rheumatoid arthritis also have leaky gut. The study is confirming something Dr. Martin has been saying for 40 years… that all autoimmune disorders originate in the gut, a leaky gut.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin goes over signs you can look for to see if you have leaky gut syndrome. The first one is that you have an autoimmune disorder. Sjogren's, MS, and even Parkinson's are examples of autoimmune disorders.

The second is the overuse of antibiotics and prescription drugs, which can lead to dysbiosis in the gut. It basically means you have more bad bacteria than good bacteria in your gut.

Don't miss this episode to learn the other signs you may have leaky gut!

681. The Netflix Syndrome20 Sep 202100:24:09

The CDC is showing that 61% of the population in North America have reported weight gain in the last 18 months. The average weight gain is 15 pounds!

Dr. Martin is calling this The Netflix Syndrome. People have been staying home, the schools were closed, the shut downs occurred. People have not been getting exercise or even getting out. They're staying home and watching Netflix.

In addition to this, the National Health Institute is saying if you gain 11 pounds you have almost an 80% increase in your risk of developing Type II diabetes. This information isn't getting out to the general public. We're not being told how to better protect ourselves from viruses and bacteria. This bothers Dr. Martin!

680. Get the Truth and Never Sell It17 Sep 202100:28:15

A Bible verse that Dr. Martin loves is Proverbs 23:23. It says, "get the truth and never sell it."

In today's episode, Dr. Martin discusses the 7 Pillars of Truth, as far as your health is concerned. He urges listeners to "get the truth" in the overarching principles he consistently teaches about.

The 7 things that will help you stay healthy are better food choices, water, exercise, sleep, managing stress, gut health, and vitamin D. Dr. Martin teaches on the importance of each of these items.

679. Plummeting Masculinity16 Sep 202100:28:18

There is a growing concern that men are losing their masculinity too quickly. Studies are showing that testosterone levels are down 30-40% in the last 20 years. Sperm counts over the last 30 years are down nearly 60%. One study is even showing that by the year 2045, babies won't be conceived without artificial semen!

In today's episode, Dr. Martin shares 7 reasons why men's masculinity is plummeting and offers ways to correct it. He also talks about low testosterone and how changing your diet can have an immediate effect!

Dr. Martin also shares more unintended consequences of the virus, and that is our cortisol levels are through the roof. People are stressed, they're not sleeping, and they're stuck in a vicious cycle.

677. More Good News About Vitamin E14 Sep 202100:26:17

According to Dr. Martin, true vitamin E is actually exercise! There is nothing negative about vitamin E. It's all good, but just realize some exercises are better for you than others.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin talks about the most effective exercise you can do – weight resistant exercises. Lifting weights actually decreases insulin resistance, and as we age, it's important to do something, anything to keep our muscles moving.

Dr. Martin also looks at a study that's showing that just 2 minutes on a rebounder will drain your lymphatics. This is major news as it's important we get the debris out of our bodies.

1585. Q&A with Dr. Martin11 Jun 202500:26:13

Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

676. Autophagy: Your Self Cleaning Oven13 Sep 202100:28:30

Did you know that our bodies have a self cleaning function? It's called autophagy and it's the body's way of cleaning out debris from our systems.

We are finding more and more about how our brain's glymphatic, and our body's lymphatic systems work. They're all connected, and for autophagy to work, you need to sleep. It's estimated that 70% of the North American population does not get a good night's sleep. As a result, our bodies don't clean, they don't detox the way they should.

Join Dr. Martin in today's episode where he shares 3 other ways to promote autophagy, your body's self cleaning oven!

675. Hormones or Horror-mones?10 Sep 202100:28:24

If you've followed Dr. Martin for any length of time, you'll know he refers to women's hormones as horror-mones. When your levels of estrogen and progesterone go out of balance, "you become too much of a woman," says Dr. Martin.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin teaches about the importance of estrogen and your thyroid gland. When you are estrogen dominant, your thyroid slows down. This opens the door to a variety of issues such as fatigue, weakness, weight gain, and even hair loss. Your thyroid is your metabolism, your gas pedal, and ladies, you must fix that first!

Dr. Martin also discusses some foods that women need to be avoiding. The worst offender is soy, and Dr. Martin urges women to avoid it like the plague!

674. Food Marketing and Children09 Sep 202100:25:55

Did you know that during the COVID lockdowns the food industry doubled down on their marketing to children? Knowing that children were mostly at home, watching TV, the food industry geared its advertising directly to them. It's being called food porn!

The study, published in the Journal of American Medical Association, revealed that over 90% of children between the ages of 2 and 19 live on junk food. On top of that, 70% of children in the United States are obese! 70 percent!

Dr. Martin is angry this is happening! It literally makes him sick knowing how this will affect his grandchildren. By the year 2030, the World Health Organization is predicting a pandemic of diabetes – a pandemic of diabetes! Our health truly is in jeopardy!

672. More Bad News About Sugar07 Sep 202100:27:42

Have you ever heard of a Food Anthropologist? They're scientists who look at the history of food and the dietary changes in populations around the world.

As far back as 1776, during the declaration of independence in the United States, people consumed on average 4 pounds of sugar in a year. In the 1950s, it was 25 pounds. Fifty pounds in the 70s… and today, it's 200 pounds of sugar in a year!

Dr. Martin looks at what sugar does to our bodies in today's episode. He shares a study that's showing how people with elevated levels of blood glucose are more likely to die from the coronavirus. Sugar actually impairs the "first responders" in your body, allowing the virus to spread.

671. The Pineal Gland06 Sep 202100:24:27

If you search online for the pineal gland, it's often referred to as your body's "third eye." It's located deep in the center of the brain and is important for receiving light. It's also responsible for helping make melatonin.

Melatonin is a widely recognized supplement for helping you sleep. 70% of the population in North America doesn't get enough sleep, so it's no wonder so many rely on supplements and sleeping pills.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin teaches about melatonin and how your body naturally produces it. He talks about the pineal gland and how it becomes calcified as you age, essentially slowing down your body's ability to create the melatonin hormone.

670. Insulin Resistance and Cancer03 Sep 202100:28:48

When you are insulin resistant, your pancreas needs to produce increasingly more insulin to remove sugar from your bloodstream. The insulin takes those sugars and parks it in your liver, your fat cells… and in your muscles, which is the preferred destination. This is why weight resistance exercises are the best for your health. You are creating more bins in your muscles to store glucose.

For years now, we have known that sugar feeds cancer cells, but we didn't know the mechanism used to do this. We now know the enzyme p31k diverts sugar, which was meant to be stored in your muscles, into cancer cells. This is especially true if you are insulin resistant!

Join Dr. Martin in today's episode as he unpacks this discovery. He also teaches on fatty acids and how cancer tumours need this fuel to grow.

669. Top Reason Why People Visit Doctors02 Sep 202100:28:25

A recent survey has revealed the top 11 reasons why people visit their doctors. Ten years ago, when Dr. Martin wrote Energy Robbers and the Fatigue Cure, the number one reason was fatigue. The number one reason has now been replaced, and the reason may surprise you.

The number one reason why people visit their doctors is for skin issues. From psoriasis, to eczema, to acne, to rashes... our skin is the largest, and most visible organ in the body!

There are two things that are going to influence your skin more than anything else. One, is leaky gut. Two is what you eat. If you look at your skin, it's almost a mirror image of what is happening in your gut. Our modern diet of crappy oils and carbs and enormous amounts of sugar is destroying people's lives.

Dr. Martin also answers several additional questions he missed from Question & Answer Friday.

668. Q&A with Dr. Martin01 Sep 202100:36:22

  • Caloric deficit for weight loss
  • Lipedema
  • Benfotiamine to combat effects of glycation
  • Tanning beds & lotions
  • Unexpected bruising
  • Nitrates and additives in processed meats
  • Vitamin D with K2
  • Canker sores
  • High levels of B12

Tune in to hear Dr. Martin's responses!

667. Protein Is King31 Aug 202100:29:22

Dr. Martin shares a study out of India showing that their diet is very, very low in protein. Their daily protein intake is around 30 grams, when it should be triple that and ideally between 200 and 300 grams.

When it comes to nutrition, protein is the king of the castle. What insulin does with protein is different than what it does with carbohydrates. Carbs are a bad fuel because if you don't use that energy right away, it gets stored as fat. For protein, insulin will take it and drive amino acids inside your cells.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin uses this study as a springboard to teach on how to drive up your HDL cholesterol and to lower your triglycerides.

Don't miss this informative episode!

1584. Q&A with Dr. Martin10 Jun 202500:31:27

Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

666. Biomarkers of Depression30 Aug 202100:30:11

A staggering statistic coming out of the United States is that 250 million prescriptions were written for antidepressants in 2020! Dr. Martin calls this an unintended consequence of locking down society because of a virus.

SSRIs like Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil were never meant to be used long-term. Their intention was to get you through a crisis. Dr. Martin shares 4 major side effects of the prolonged use of antidepressants.

Dr. Martin also shares the biomarkers of depression he has seen in his patients. From leaky gut, to being chronically low in B12, there are many reasons why people have depression. Dr. Martin unpacks this in today's episode.

665. Don't Ditch the Salt… Switch It!27 Aug 202100:24:40

Dr. Martin has previously urged listeners not to ditch dairy, but instead to switch their dairy. Now, the same thing applies to salt.

Did you know that table salt (sodium chloride) is stripped of all of its nutrients? Dr. Martin wants you to instead choose a Himalayan or a good sea salt that gives you all your minerals.

Why switch your salt? It has to do with dehydration, in which there are two types. The most commonly known one is a lack of water. People drink everything else but water and have no idea how dehydrated they are. The second one is salt. The type of salt you choose matters. Dr. Martin explains why in today's episode.

664. Cholesterol in Japan26 Aug 202100:27:32

Health officials in Japan have drawn up new guidelines stating that the higher your cholesterol is, the better you feel, and the longer you live! This is a major breakthrough that Dr. Martin has been talking about for years.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin links this breakthrough with another study showing that low levels of cholesterol equals more Alzheimer's. He applauds the Japanese for understanding that our bodies need cholesterol.

Dr. Martin also talks about the history of statin drugs and shares why he thinks they cause more harm than good. Listen in to hear more!

663. Q&A with Dr. Martin25 Aug 202100:35:00

  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Temporal arteritis
  • Glutathione supplementation
  • Brachial radial bursitis
  • Fulvic acid
  • Varicose veins
  • Prolia shots for osteoporosis
  • Calcium supplements
  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Celiac disease

662. The Vitamin D Hammer24 Aug 202100:26:21

You may have heard of therapeutic doses of medication being used on patients. Doctors would take an inexpensive medication, such as ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine, and give high doses to patients over a few days. The goal of therapeutics was to saturate your system and stage off any further spread of a viral or bacterial infection.

Dr. Martin says that doctors are no longer talking about therapeutics, and especially now. One such therapeutic is the 'vitamin D hammer,' where high doses of vitamin D are given to multiply your white blood cells. You're essentially enlisting an army to 'hammer' whatever virus or parasite may be present in your bloodstream.

Listen to today's episode to learn more about vitamin D – or as Dr. Martin likes to call it, VitDerma!

661. Iron Deficiency23 Aug 202100:23:07

There is an epidemic happening amongst women, and it's called iron deficiency. A recent study is showing that 21% of women in North America between the ages of 15 and 49 are anemic. That's nearly a quarter of women!

Dr. Martin talks about iron deficiency, and specifically about anemia in today's episode. He shares reasons why so many women are low in iron, and offers ways to reverse the trend.

A second study about diabetes is showing how diabetics don't eat the minimum amount of protein they need. Dr. Martin reminds listeners how diabetes is a food problem, and not one of genetics. A diagnosis of diabetes is truly a death sentence, but it can be avoided… provided you change your fuel!

660. The Pancreas20 Aug 202100:30:21

You may have heard of the pancreas but are unsure of what it actually does. In today's episode, Dr. Martin teaches about the pancreas and talks about pancreatic cancer, one of the most prevalent and deadly cancers today.

Our healthcare system is all about early detection and not about prevention. Dr. Martin teaches prevention because he doesn't want you to get sick in the first place. He wants you to change your fuel and stop feeding your body sugars and crappy carbs.

The number one reason we're seeing so much pancreatic cancer is because of sugar, says Dr. Martin. Listen to today's episode to learn what sugar does to the pancreas.

659. Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Disorders18 Aug 202100:24:48

You may have never heard this said before, but diabetes is a food allergy. That's right. Diabetics have an allergy to carbohydrates, says Dr. Martin.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin again shares a recent study on insulin resistance. The 6-year study tested 200 participants for insulin resistance. The ones that had the highest insulin resistance were getting all the diseases. The ones with the lowest insulin resistance were getting none of them.

Dr. Martin again shares this study to show how insulin resistance plays a huge role in our health. When you become resistant to insulin, the door is opened to diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and even Alzheimer's.

If you can only do one thing to improve your health, Dr. Martin urges you to cut the carbs. Doing that alone will greatly reduce your chances of developing a metabolic disorder.

658. Q&A with Dr. Martin17 Aug 202100:35:49

657. Healthy Lifestyle vs. Genetics16 Aug 202100:26:18

A recent headline from the Journal of the American Association for Cancer Research is saying that a healthy lifestyle may help mitigate high genetic risk cancers. A review of studies has led the publication to believe there's a possible link between your lifestyle and cancer.

Dr. Martin never thought he'd see the day when cancer would be linked to an unhealthy lifestyle and not to genetics! This discovery is major news, but again, it will be buried. It doesn't fit the narrative of managing disease instead of preventing it altogether.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin reminds listeners about two ways to live a healthy lifestyle. Through diet, eliminating sugar and carbs, and by getting optimized levels of vitamin D. These two things alone will diminish your risk of any type of cancer!

656. Sugar and Your Brain13 Aug 202100:25:59

It's probably not surprising to hear that sugar is detrimental to your brain. If you've been listening to Dr. Martin's podcast for any length of time, you've heard him say this many times.

A recent study looking at sugar intake over time is showing the enormous effect sugar has on the memory centre of the brain, the hippocampus. That's not good, but what is encouraging… is the study was presented at the recent Alzheimer's International Conference. Researchers are starting to see how much sugar affects our brains!

In today's episode, Dr. Martin teaches on what happens in your body with a prolonged diet full of sugar. He also talks about dehydration and making changes to your lifestyle to include intermittent fasting. Listen in to learn more!

655. Artificial Sweeteners Continued12 Aug 202100:24:21

A few weeks back, Dr. Martin shared a study showing how artificial sweeteners like aspartame have a negative impact on our overall health. That study showed how diet drinks especially caused a change to the microbiome.

This new study is showing how artificial sweeteners affect the chemical messengers in the brain. The chemistry of your brain is being altered to increase your hunger. If people are making the switch to "diet" to lose weight, it'll actually make things worse.

Dr. Martin offers an alternative to diet drinks, and that's vitamin W – water! So many people are dehydrated and they don't even know it. Water is essential to our brains, and that's why it's so important to increase our intake!

653. Omega-3 Studies10 Aug 202100:27:06

There is no doubt that omega-3 is an effective tool in keeping you healthy. There have been countless studies about its benefits, and Dr. Martin shares 5 new studies that came out in the last week!

He also shares 3 ways to increase your omega-3 intake. Although supplementation is effective, Dr. Martin reminds listeners that he wants you to eat your vitamins!

Listen to today's episode to learn more reasons why you need omega-3, and especially DHA!

652. The Top 4 Selling Medications09 Aug 202100:27:49

Dr. Martin looks at the top 4 selling medications in North America. These top drugs manage the symptoms associated with high cholesterol, thyroid issues, diabetes, and high blood pressure, but often have significant side effects.

The big pharmaceuticals are often "looking for love in the wrong places." They are looking to profit from the management of symptoms and not actually finding a cure. Oftentimes, the drug may help one thing, but cause another problem.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin focuses specifically on the side effects of these drugs. He explains what the drugs do, and shares the side effects that need to be countered. As always, the solution boils down to the food choices we are making!

651. What About Your Immune System?06 Aug 202100:26:58

Something that has bothered Dr. Martin over the whole of the pandemic, is that nobody is talking about the immune system. What's more frustrating is when you have educated medical professionals who seem to have forgotten we even have one!

When it comes to viruses, you need to remember that they mutate. There will always be variants of a virus, and with each mutation, it's actually getting weaker – it's devolving. It's the media that's pushing the narrative that each variant is more dangerous than the last.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin shares his thoughts on the virus and how the media has stopped being skeptical in their journalism. He reminds listeners about the importance of vitamin D and how our immune systems need optimized levels for it to function properly.

650. Science Is Never Settled05 Aug 202100:25:23

You've more than likely heard the saying, "follow the science," especially from the media and government officials in recent times. You may also hear people saying, "the science is settled." It bothers Dr. Martin to hear this, because science is never settled. Science is always evolving and we're always going to learn more.

Dr. Martin shares how the 4 biggest killers in terms of disease (heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's and diabetes) are actually controlled by 3 major factors. They are pharmaceutical companies, the food industry, and social media. Listen to today's episode to learn how these powerful conglomerates have hijacked medicine and are controlling the narrative.

Science at its very nature is about observation. If you're truly following the science, you need to be open to new data. Dr. Martin's mission is to keep learning so he can bring new information to you, his listeners!

648. Vitamin D and Thyroid Health03 Aug 202100:27:41

Did you know that your thyroid is about the size of a walnut? It's a small organ that's powerful like Mighty Mouse, however, it's got a lot of strings attached to it – one of them being vitamin D.

Dr. Martin shares a 'hot off the press' study that's showing how your thyroid doesn't work properly without optimized levels of vitamin D. More and more, studies are showing how optimized levels of vitamin D are essential to your health.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin discusses this study and shares the four ways to get vitamin D. If you've followed Dr. Martin for some time, you likely know the different ways already.

647. The Root Cause of Mental Illness – Part 202 Aug 202100:28:41

Dr. Martin continues his teaching on the root cause of mental illness in today's episode.

Last episode he spoke about insulin and how our North American diet of sugar and crappy carbs is a leading contributor of mental illness. According to the CDC, 75% of Americans are overweight and 50% are either diabetic or pre-diabetic. Even more alarming is that 88% of the population has trouble with insulin – they have some form of metabolic syndrome!

Today, Dr. Martin focuses on leaky gut, and how having a leaky gut means you probably have a leaky brain. More and more we're seeing how having a healthy microbiome results in a healthy brain. We also now have enough data to know that a child's diet has an enormous effect on mental health later on in life.

Unfortunately, the cards are stacked against us. The huge conglomerates and pharmaceutical companies aren't looking for a cure, they're only looking to treat symptoms!

646. The Root Cause of Mental Illness – Part 130 Jul 202100:29:18

Dr. Martin has often spoken about the unintended consequences of the pandemic. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is now reporting a shortage of Zoloft, which is an SSRI antidepressant. The FDA said they ran out because doctors were prescribing it to kids like jelly beans!

A tragic statistic is that nearly 13% of the population in the United States over the age of 12 regularly take SSRI antidepressants. Yes, that's right. 13% of the population is taking antidepressants on a daily basis.

In today's episode, Dr. Martin shares how food is the root cause of mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
