| Episode 38: Cold Slither's Gus Rios | 05 Oct 2025 | 00:33:42 | |
On this episode of The Distorted Dialogue Podcast, Cold Slither guitarist Gus Rios, swings by and we talk about Cold Slither's newest Self Titled album, coming out on Reigning Phoenix Music on Friday, July 25th. Cold Slither is a concept band, taking not only their name, but so much more from GI Joe's nemesis, Zartan and the Dreadnoks. I grew up loving GI Joe, and who didn't? This album appealed not only to my love of Heavy Metal, but my love of GI Joe and the nostalgia it brought me. Reigning Phoenix Music founder Gerardo Martinez, partnered with Hasbro, the makers of GI Joe figures, and the coinciding video series that accompanied the figures. Talking with Gus, who you may know from KMFDM, Exhumed and Gruesome (another killer album this year), reignited the flame for GI Joe and he has me watching all the old episodes. This isn't some cheesy, gimmick to sell stuff. You can see the passion Gus has for the project and I am just as excited, being a lifelong fan of both metal and Joe. As much as I want Gus and the dudes to succeed, I can't be rooting for Zartan and the Dreadnoks. Sorry, but it's YO JOE! all day, everyday. 🎙️ Distorted Dialogue | A Podcast from The Metal Institute of Thrashology 🤘Welcome to Diabolical Dialogue, the official podcast of The Metal Institute of Thrashology — where riffs meet ridiculousness and academia bows before the almighty arpeggio. Each episode dives deep, headfirst into the chaotic realms of metal, punk, hardcore, and beyond with band members, scene lifers, and other unholy scholars of sound. | Episode 35: Diamond Head's Brian Tatler | 01 Oct 2025 | 00:30:45
🎙️On Episode 35 of The Distorted Dialogue Podcast, Diamond Head’s founding member and guitarist Brian Tatler stops by to discuss their upcoming effort, Live and Electric, UK Tour 2022. A collection of different Diamond Head classics recorded live, and compiled into one killer album, with some great production quality. Chocked full of riff after riff of high energy, exciting metal, this is a must listen to release any fans of Diamond Head or heavy metal in general. Diamond Head was one of the main influences for then legendary Metallica, who have covered many songs of Diamond Head's catalog, with their best known work being Am I Evil? Countless other bands have mentioned Diamond Head as influences, and perform their songs, am it was amazing to sit with a founding member and living legend. We talk about the recording process, the plans for touring, and my dream of a Metallica and Diamond Head Collaboration, (we have to hope). Make sure you preorder LIVE AND ELECTRIC UK TOUR 2022, because it rips! 🤘

| Episode 32: Byzantine | 28 Sep 2025 | 00:32:10 | |
On this episode of the Distorted Dialogue Podcast, West Virginia natives Byzantine, drop in to discuss their new album Harbingers. The name of the band says it all, as it is with great difficulty I find it to be to pin what kind of style of metal this is, other than kick ass! We also discuss playing shows, the writing process, and so much more. I can't tell you everything, other wise you wouldn't watch, right? I couldn't have had more fun talking with them, unless it was at their show, as I have eagerly waited for the release of this album. A dynamic sound, with layers upon layers of intricacies and heaviness woven together into one unique and organic sound. I cannot stop listening to the lead single, Floating Chrysanthemum, so I am going to head over now and check it out, and you should too. The craziest part about their songs, no matter how many times you listen to it, you discover something new! Mixing technical death metal, with progressive metal, melodic death metal, and so, so much more. Such a complicated sound, they literally named their band about it. Crazy? I know, right! So you gotta give it a try. Have your music reviewed at:https://bit.ly/4iJZMZA —Groover Profile LinkWelcome to the Metal Institute of Thrashology! | Episode 31: Incite's Richie Cavalera | 27 Sep 2025 | 00:34:24
On this episode of the Distorted Dialogue podcast, we sit down with Richie Cavalera, founding member and frontman of the groove and thrash metal band Incite. Incite takes two of my favorite genres of metal, Groove and Thrash, cuts off the fat and jams into your ears with force. A unique twist on both, Incite had be banging my head and throwing horns in the air, as I listened to their latest singles, Just A Rat, No Mercy No Forgiveness, and my favorite so far, Dolores. We discuss a ton of topics, to include the three new singles, the latest album, Savage New Times, August 15, 2025, and I can't wait. Following up the successes of their 2022 album, Wake Up Dead, Incite use different tempos, different instruments and a different approach to their writing and growth. We also discussed their appearances on the Summer Slaughter Tour, hosted by Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, being on Reigning Phoenix Records and also being the son of the legendary Gloria Cavalera, one of the First Ladies of thrash, who kicked ass and took names all over the globe! I really enjoyed this chat, but honestly, not as much as I enjoyed their music. You guys know riffs are my favorite thing!!! All jokes aside, Richie was an awesome guest, and I hope there is more coming from their camp soon, and make sure you snag a copy of their latest album, Savage New Times. The title says it all, and by the sounds of the content, these will be some truly savage moments coming up with Incite! Special thanks to Richie Cavalera, for taking time out of his busy as schedule to talk to me, and thank to the crew at C Squared music for setting this up. | Episode 30 Miss Lava's Rafael Ripper | 26 Sep 2025 | 00:38:28
This episode of the Distorted Dialogue Podcast, we welcome Portuguese metal band Miss Lava, to discuss the Portuguese metal scene, the history of the band, opening for the legendary Graveyard and of course, their newest full length, Under A Black Sun. Mixing together elements of Doom metal, some Psych sounds, stoner rock and other genres of heavy, to make one kick ass album. If your fans of rock or metal this is for you, and especially if your fans of Kyuss, Mastodon, Electric Wizard and other similar sounding bands. They also blend in some fuzz, some rock and roll, and maybe a side order of HEAVY, to create such a delicious sound, my ears are watering as this plays. So glad I got to sit down and find out what all went in crafting these sweet sounds known as Under A Black Sun. A well written album, that feels just as much as a journey to the cosmos, as it does a killer metal album. A bit darker than their previous works, but still has plenty of brightness enclosed. A solid release, find out now what all went into creating it! 🎙️ Distorted Dialogue | A Podcast from The Metal Institute of Thrashology 🤘 Welcome to Distorted Dialogue, the official podcast of The Metal Institute of Thrashology — where riffs meet ridiculousness and academia bows before the almighty arpeggio. Expect unfiltered, uncensored conversations, deep dives into underground music, and enough sarcasm and sonic blasphemy to earn us a few detention sessions in hell. Whether it is Thrash or Metalcore, Doom to Death and everything in between, if it’s heavy chances are you can find it here. Interviews with artists, tech’s, and other members of the music industry, nothing is off limits, and same goes for the chats! | Episode 29: Buzzard's Chris Thomas Elliot | 25 Sep 2025 | 00:38:22
On this episode of the Distorted Dialogue Podcast we welcome the Doom and folk mixture known as Buzzard. Half part Protest songs, half part Black Sabbath, half part kick ass, never mind the math, Buzzard is killer. Poignant simplicity with the writing prowess of the legends, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and David Crosby while putting the distorted doom riffs from more legends, Tony Iommi, Richie Blackmore and other distorted, doom shredders. With thought provoking lyrics and relevant takes on the modern world, Buzzard has pecked my ears clean. So glad that the one man Chris, behind the band, stopped by to talk about his newest release, Mean Bone, the influences on him that helped shape this sound, and so much more. We had several topics lined up to chat about, however we never made it to any of them, so maybe we should do this again! Check out Buzzard and their newest release Mean Bone, it is simplicity and perfection. Special thanks to Chris, as I know he is busy as hell, with everyone raving over this album! Welcome to The Metal Institute of Thrashology—where the curriculum is brutal, the riffs are relentless, and the only thing we take seriously is the art of not taking things too seriously. Brody Uttley from Reading, Pennsylvania band, Rivers of Nihil, took time out of his busy schedule to sit down and discuss the upcoming self titled release, the influences and growth of the band, the newest member of the band Andy Thomas, and the local scene in Reading and in the surrounding communities. and their effect on the sound too. No one can deny, the growth and evolution of a sound into one kick ass form!A great talk, with a great dude, from a great band, I cannot wait for the self titled entire record to come out, and with the strength of these few singles, it is going to be a mind blowing release. The first 3 singles, Water & Time, House of Light, and American Death, take the strengths from their previous albums and double down on the strengths, making this a phenomenal sound. I had an absolute blast chatting with Brody, and an even better time checking out the sounds of the Self Titled record coming May 30, 2025, on Metal Blade Records, and it is one diverse sound, with something for everyone, so make sure you head over and pre-save this album. | Episode 26: Horrenda Darragh O'Conner | 22 Sep 2025 | 00:36:22
Irish metal band Horrenda, sits down and discusses a ton of exciting news, regarding their upcoming U.S. physical release of their album Dioltas, on May, 30 2025. A unique blend of death and black metal, mixed with some atmospherics, and a hefty amount of weight. Mixing in snippets of political speeches, from some of histories greatest leaders, this album, provoked a ton of thoughts, and after repeated listens, I even started questioning some of my own values. Based off of the mythologies and the colored histories of this island, whether it be politics, labor, the famine and more, this is not only a well written album, but the execution is just as good. Founder Darragh O'Conner sits and talks, history, influences, and other countrymen who are just as heavy. He even discuss other Irish heavyweights in Uragh and Kriak, taking time to share the stage and promote some of his fellow bands that he has shared the stage with, like Dead Flesh. You can tell Darragh's passion for music and it comes across in Horrenda's new album, Dioltas. I had a great time talking to Darragh, and hopefully you will watching this! This is for fans of Dark Throne, Bolt Thrower, and other bands that have that blackened death feel, which will keep the metalheads and headbangers wrecking their necks for quite awhile. Sounding unlike any other band, I keep coming back to Dioltas, so you just have to give it a spin. Make sure you check out their album Dioltas, as you won't want to miss that! Canadian doom metal band Aawks swings by to discuss their new record On Through The Sky Maze. It's a killer album of blackened doom, mixed with some psych elements and stoner rock vibes, this album rips! This is the second interview, as my dumbass forgot to hit record on the first one, so many thanks to Aawks for putting up with me twice. Awesome people, awesome sounds and hopefully an awesome Episode! On Episode 24, Swedish death metal veterans Lik released a new album, Necro, and drummer Chris Barkensjo stops by to discuss it. What an album it is, chocked full of groove, and melody, but don't think that waters this sound down. | Episode 25: Aawks (Psych / Doom) | 21 Sep 2025 | 00:34:28
Canadian doom metal band Aawks swings by to discuss their new record On Through The Sky Maze. It's a killer album of blackened doom, mixed with some psych elements and stoner rock vibes, this album rips! We discuss touring Canada, they try to teach me French and geography, and they inform me of some of the bands that have influenced their sounds. Chris explains how they achieve such a great mix, the thoughts and decisions that shape their sounds and what Lik plans to accomplish next. Chris went into great detail, and it really gave me a new outlook on the recording process, and what went into the writing process. He speaks about Vinnie Paul being an influence and could you have had a better influence? Go check out Necro, it's a truly great album. On Episode 23, Montreal, Canadians band Red Raven Chaos stop by, and discuss their 2025, album, Signs. It's a beast of an album, that I was so excited to discover and you can see the sheer excitement on my face, and know it's authentic. We take a deep dive into this album, and discuss how they formed, how they gelled into such a tight group and what went into creating such an amazing album, and that damn opening to the album that gives me a panic attack! We discuss the metal scenes around the world, touring, how the business works, and so much more! Definitely check these dudes out, as the album Signs is magnificent. Each episode dives deep, headfirst into the chaotic realms of metal, punk, hardcore, and beyond with band members, scene lifers, and other unholy scholars of sound. | Episode 22: Infernal Instinct (Modern Metal) | 18 Sep 2025 | 00:22:26
On Episode 22, Des Moines, Iowa's Infernal Instinct swing by to discuss their two songs they just released, Transcending Madness and The Virtue. Brand new to the metal scene, they wasted no time dropping two behemoth tracks, so different from other metal bands today. A really unique sound, this up and coming metal band tells about how they met, how they were influenced and their plan moving forward. From their humble beginnings, to ripping stages in the local scene, these dudes are hungry and have been devouring venues as they go. Couldn't have been a nicer group of dudes and it was really cool to see the insight into what makes their sound unique. If you haven't heard these dudes yet, fix that, their sound is great! Chicago's Thrash metal heroes in Misfire swing by the Distorted Dialogue Podcast, to talk about their new album, Product of the Environment, their first album on MNRK Heavy. They are stoked to be heading out with the legendary Exodus, whose lead singer Rob Dukes made a guest appearance on Product of the Environment. We discuss the upcoming singles, their influences, and so much more. I had a great time talking to Misfire, and want to thank them for swinging by, especially with so much positive stuff going on. Head over and check out their ripper of a lead single, "We Went Through Hell", and snag a copy of Product of the Environment. | Sludge Metal's Stalemate of Wills on NEW Album, Existence Denied, Pittsburgh Hardcore, Upcoming Shows and more... | 22 Mar 2026 | 00:16:30
Pittsburgh Sludgelord's in Stalemate of Wills are releasing their new album Existence Denied, which puts a salty, rusty spin on New Orleans sludge, with a mix of old school hardcore and marinated in doom, they swung by on Episode 75 of the Distorted Dialogue Podcast. It really is a small world, as I knew they were local, but they are from old stomping grounds, and Stalemate of Wills tells how they have an upcoming show, in support of the upcoming album, Existence Denied. As they self identify, too sludgy for doom, too doomy for sludge, that is what is so good about this album. It appeals to more than just one type of sounds. Which makes Existence Denied more than just a sludge album, with hardcore influences and DIY roots. I had a blast talking to Stalemate of Wills, and make sure you check out their upcoming album, Existence Denied out April of 26!
