The Dented Puck - A Blind Hockey Podcast – Details, episodes & analysis

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of podcast guest, Team USA Goalie, and everyone's best friend T.J. Stewart.

We recorded a few thoughts as a preview to the re-release of one of our favorite episodes, "The Summer of T.J." TJ Stewart was everyone's kid brother, who was "a beacon in a really dark world."

We will be celebrating TJ's life on Wednesday as a hockey community by showing how much of the hockey community truly were TJ's buddies, by supporting a "Sticks Out For TJ" movement, by posting a picture of a hockey stick outside your door for support with the hashtag @SticksOutFotTj (The captials are important for screen reader users like TJ to understand Hashtags.)

Today, we have a unique episode - possibly the most mentally taxing episode for the boys. We'd like to introduce our producer, Kory Shinohara! He has been the man behind the camera for the Dented Pucks for almost 3 years, now he's the one in front of it. We discuss how he got into hockey as a sport, how he got into broadcasting at the University of Kansas, why he's a Knights fan (opposed to his hometown Hawks), how he discovered blind hockey, and where he wants to take us to in the future!

After a brief hiatus, we are back with another banger! It was a pleasure to welcome on Minnesota Wild Blind Hockey's very own Nick and Brady! We discuss their amazing work with the Wild, especially Brady's action-packed summer - which features his very own gargantuan efforts for the name and sport of blind hockey!

We are so lucky to have an individual who participates in one of the oldest sporting rivalries in the world, Hillary Scanlon! She is a member of the Oxford Blues Women's Ice Hockey team, and Captain of the Canadian Women's Blind Soccer team!

In the episode, we discuss how her skills in one blind sport enable her to excel in another, her studies at Oxford, and how said university gave her the strength to be where she is today.

This week on the show we were happy to have Trent Tribble out of Columbus Blind Hockey on.  Trent is a relatively new face in the blind hockey community but he and his teammates have already made a big splash!  They were the first to get on the ice in between periods and have opened doors for other organizations to follow suit.  He also participated in the Blind Showcase game with Dawg Nation, showing off his skills alongside his daughter!  Make sure to catch this episode as we learn more about this multi sport athlete!

Mark DeMontis:

This week we were proud to host another OG Blind hockey player.  Mark DeMontis was behind the original skate across Canada to raise money for Blind hockey.  Through that organization, Courage Canada, he and his team were able to grow the sport and grow the organization to what we now know as Canadian Blind Hockey.   Whether it was strapping on rollerblades or donning his countries colors; mark has continued to be a leader on and off the ice as well as a vocal advocate for the sport.  We thoroughly enjoyed having him on and barely scratched the surface on his time on the ice.  

As Josh has said many times, “this may be our best episode yet!”
