In today’s episode, I interviewed Giulia Tripoli. She has been dancing, choreographing and creating on local, national and international stages since 2008. Building a career based on respect for the discipline and passion for the art, dance has been her vehicle for change both in herself and in those she is fortunate enough to teach.
Through her personal work with artists like Lukay and Paul Lizzi and behind the scenes as the founder of both Tripoli Studios Inc. and its Agency of 60 professional dancers, she has developed a reputation in the industry for precision, professionalism and polish. Her studio has become a Montreal staple for any dancer looking to train in an open and accepting environment and those who participated in the 6th annual Tripoli Studios original production are proof that her methods produce the finest performers.
Most recently, Giulia has graciously accepted positions as a judge for the JFK Foundation’s Dancing with the Stars Gala and the Move With The Beat competition, as a regular visiting teacher at Millenium Dance Complex Toronto, The Industry and R2D Homegrown Intensives and as a repeated invited guest at Articien – Montreal Choreographers Showcase. She is the General and Montreal Licensee for Army of Sass, a renowned high heels training program. While always appreciative for the opportunities to create for events like WeDay and Mini Pop Kids, Giulia continues to nurture her love of performance by participating in the Montreal Pride Parade for MAC Cosmetics and dancing for Fafa Khan at Ile Soniq.
Her unique style has become a trademark for the growth and innovation that can exist in the dance industry.

Today I’m excited to present to you the interview that I had the privilege to conduct with none other than the choreographer from the dance group “The Kings” who famously won the World of Dance competition on NBC last May. Judges, Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough were blown away by their final performance and the group obtained a perfect score which was only the second time this happened on the show.
The Kings have worked extremely hard to get where they are, having started to dance as a group back in the days when dance was not as popular and when people in general, especially their parents, didn’t see a future in the discipline of dance. The group of 14 dancers became popular once India started having reality competition TV shows. They won practically every competition in India and they won India’s Got Talent 3rd season which propelled them to the forefront.

Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli talks about his journey through dance with a neuromuscular disorder...

Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli has lived by this motto his whole life. Born with Arthrogryposis, a neuromuscular disorder affecting the bones and joints of the body, he has undergone a total of 16 surgeries since he was 7 months old to support his legs, hips, spine, and shoulders. Despite facing physical challenges, Luca learned at early age about the power of adapting positively to any situation.
At 15 years old, Luca was introduced to breakdancing (Bboying/Bgirling). Immediately, he was attracted to the music, the culture and, of course, to the challenging movements. He slowly began creating a unique style that took advantage of his upper body strength. By using his crutches as extensions of his arms, Bboy Lazylegz was born!
Over the past 13 years, Lazylegz has developed his career as a professional dancer by competing and performing in a wide variety of international dance events such as Breakin’ Convention, Freestyle Session, IBE, R16, Circle Prinz, World of Dance and Hip Hop International. With growing notoriety, he has had opportunities to appear on both Canadian and American media, including appearances on the Ellen Degeneres Show, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, The Today Show, America’s Got Talent, Tout le Monde en Parle, Star Académie, TF-1 and Paul O’Grady.
Lazylegz was given the honour of both headlining and being Segment Director for the 2010 Paralympic Opening Ceremonies.
Laylegz has toured the world, performing and inspiring in over 22 countries. He remains an active presence on the international stage as the current National Youth Dance Ambassador for the Canadian Dance Assembly.
He created ILL-Abilities, an international Bboy crew comprised of some of the world’s best differently-abled dancers. Together, they have choreographed several theatrical dance productions acknowledged by the Society of London Theatre. As a result, ILL-Abilities received a nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Dance for the 2013 Olivier Awards.
Lazylegz also co-founded RAD Movement, formally known as Projet RAD, an inclusive urban dance program for youth with disabilities. In 2015, David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, recognized Luca along with partners Melissa Emblin and Marie-Elaine Patenaude with a Meritorious Service Medal for their dedication and commitment in creating a more inclusive society for people with disabilities.
