| The transport gap for people with disability | 24 oct. 2026 | 00:17:57 | |
For a lot of us, getting around is something we barely think about. You tap on, jump on the closest bus, train or tram, and you're at work, at your parents' for dinner, or grabbing a coffee with the girls. Our calendars might be packed and our days might feel shorter than ever, but the actual getting there? That's rarely the part that stresses us out.
That's not the reality for everyone, though. Around 5.5 million Australians live with disability, and for many of them the trip itself is the hard part. The step onto the bus might be too high, the station might not have a lift, or the walk to the nearest stop might not be possible at all. So before they can even think about the medical appointment, the shift, or the catch-up at the café everyone’s posting about, they have to work out how to get there on a transport system that wasn’t built with them in mind.
For more than 40 years, state and territory governments have tried to close some of that gap by helping people with disability pay for taxis. In today's podcast, we'll explore how those schemes actually work, whether they're keeping up, and what advocates are pushing for next.
This episode is sponsored by Uber, but they have had no editorial influence over the content we are sharing in today’s podcast.

| The changing regulation of porn | 22 oct. 2026 | 00:18:00 | |
Content warning: Today's episode includes references to sexual violence and strangulation. It's not explicit, but if you've got kids in the car, you might want to save it for later. If you need support, 1800 RESPECT is available on 1800 737 732.
In both Australia and the UK, there have been major developments in the regulation of porn access. Here at home, Pornhub came back this month, but only for Australians who’ve proved their age through Apple. And in two weeks, England and Wales will make some types of porn illegal to possess.
One common theme across all three landscapes is strangulation. In one Australian study, more than half of the young people surveyed said they’d been strangled during sex, often called choking. Porn was the most common place they’d learned about it. On today’s podcast, we’re explaining what’s changing, and the question underneath it all: can you keep kids away from explicit content without asking adults to give up more of their privacy?

| Why young Aussies are buying shares | 15 oct. 2026 | 00:22:23 | |
In 1986, about one million adults owned shares, and a stockbroker stood between them and the market. The ASX says 11.5 million Australians invest beyond their super and home. Those between 18 and 29 now account for 1 in 5 investors - and, for the first time, the group of people who say that they’re going to start their investment journey in the next 12 months are mostly women. Ultimately, as the ASX CEO said this week, “Australia is a nation of investors”. On today’s podcast, we’re gonna chat through the latest data on how Australians invest, who they are, and who’s actually making the most money.

| The hidden costs of cancer | 26 sept. 2026 | 00:21:04 | |
Most of us assume the same thing about cancer in Australia: that it's covered. Medicare, the public system, a fight that's medical rather than financial. The Leukaemia Foundation has just published research that says otherwise. They asked 655 Australians living with blood cancer what their diagnosis actually cost them, and about one in eight said they'd missed, delayed or cancelled treatment because of money. I sat down with two people to work out how that happens. One who has lived it, and one who has spent the last two years measuring it.
This episode is sponsored by the Leukaemia Foundation, but they have had no editorial influence over the content we are sharing in today's podcast.

| What does an AI hack actually look like? | 24 sept. 2026 | 00:23:05 | |
Yesterday, Australia’s Prime Minister told a news conference in New York that Medicare had been hacked by OpenAI.
In June, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, asked one of its internal AI agents to research Australian health statistics.
It hit a locked door on a Medicare website and, instead of turning back, found another way in, hacking the system.
It then took OpenAI three months to inform the government, triggering serious questions about whether it should have sounded the alarm sooner.
On today’s podcast, we’re going to take a look at this latest incident, what an AI hack actually is and isn’t, and if it’s too late to prevent future incidents.
