This week is the last episode for season 1 of The Crew Room. To end this season, my special guest is Deborah Lawrie. Deborah began her flying journey as a 16 year old at Moorabbin Airport when her father bought her 2 flying lessons. From that moment, she was hooked.

While Deborah is widely know in aviation circles as the female pilot that took on Ansett Australia in a discrimination case that lasted almost a year, because according to then owner and founder Reginald Ansett "women do not belong in the cockpit".

But there is so much more to Deborah's aviation career, and it was truly an honour to chat with her about everything else that made up her stellar 40 year commercial pilot career.

More recently, she received and Order of Australia for her contribution to aviation, and was also inducted into The Australian Aviation Hall of Fame, both accolades that she very much deserves.

This week I speak to someone I have known my whole life.... My sister Jodie. She started her career in aviation when she secured a job as a Reservations Agent with Virgin Blue. In fact, I was one of her Trainers. After a year on the phones, she moved in to Group Travel handling million dollar accounts. However, Jodie knew that she always had wanted to fly. When I moved to Cabin Crew, I told her how amazing it was, and she needed to transfer when she could. And as they say, the rest is history.

I really enjoyed chatting with my sister about her life at Virgin Australia, and I was lucky to be apart of many of her memories of her time at the airline. I really hope you enjoy listening to our chat.

Can you believe it, we are up to episode 7 already, and this week I chat to my pilot friend Sally. Sally began her commercial aviation career with Virgin Australia as a First Officer on the EJET, and then moved to the A330. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic hit in March 2020, and Sally was made redundant. And if that wasn't bad enough, her husband left her. But this was not going to take her down at all. Sally found a new job in the banking sector, focused her life on her and her son, and gave a big middle finger to 2020. Sally is one of the most happiest, positive, and motivational people I know, and this was certainly a great chat. We have some great laughs, and share some great stories.

This week, I chat to Elliott. I remember meeting Elliott when he was Ground Crew in Sydney and he met my aircraft. We began to chat and a great friendship formed. Eventually, Elliott moved to Cabin Crew, then to Cabin Supervisor, and finally to Acting Leader Cabin Crew. He had such an amazing career at Virgin Australia.

After almost 10 years at the airline, he decided to make a career change and became a Tram Driver.

In this episode, I speak to Andrea. Andrea was a Sydney Based Cabin Crew member for Virgin Australia. We met on a day trip. It was supposed to be a day like any other, however, this day ended abruptly with an incident involving severe turbulence.

I also chat to Andrea about life during and after Virgin Australia.

In this Episode, I speak to my great friend Tony. He currently works in Melbourne, and has decided to take a career break from flying for now with the hopes of returning to flying in the near future.

We speak about how he decided to become a flight attendant, how he set up his small organisation (Hug Your Crew) to raise funds for mental health and suicide prevention, and how he navigated the aviation shutdown due to COVID-19. This was an amazing chat with Tony, and I hope you enjoy listening.
