4 Tips for Overcoming Insecurity and Emotional Barriers for Brand New Content Creators17 Dec 202400:14:06

Some new creators might experience the fear of judgement while other new influencers might battle with self-doubt. If you're a brand new creator feeling insecure about creating content, this podcast episode is for you.

One tip on overcoming feelings of insecurity, intimidation and fear: Give yourself permission to start something new and experiment.

Another tip for overcoming feelings of insecurity is to practice creating content often. The more you practice, the more confidence you’ll feel around creating and posting content. Don’t wait until a piece of content is perfect to post. The value in creating and posting often is also in the experience. The more you create, the more practice you’ll get and the faster you’ll learn what works and what doesn’t work.

Mini-sode: Refreshing my Media Kit for 202320 Apr 202300:14:00

I completely redesign my media kit this year and quarter. If you’re looking to refresh your media kit, this podcast episode is for you.

 What is a media kit?

A media kit is essentially a resume of who you are as a brand. Your media kit should you pull in all your social media, blog, podcast, and web platforms. Your media kit can also include audience demographics as well as previous brand partners or clients you’ve worked with.

How often should you be refreshing your media kit?

You can refresh your media kit as often as you’d like. But I recommend either updating your media kit either once a month or once a quarter.

Tune in to hear everything I refreshed on my media kit!

Mini-sode: What to Review on a Quarterly Basis as a Creator 30 Mar 202300:13:36

Today, we’re going to be chatting about what you can review as a creator or influencer each quarter. So if you’re wrapping up the last quarter and preparing for the next quarter, this podcast episode is for you. We’ll be chatting about your media kit, goals, and more.

One important think to review as a creator or influencer is your: Content Plan

Aside from revisiting your goals, media kit, and pitches, another great practice to do on a quarterly basis to revisit your content plan and strategy. I highly recommend doing at least a mini content audit to see what content performed best in the last three months.

If you’re doing a content audit for Instagram or TikTok for the first time, it can be as simple as looking at which photos or videos received the most engagement.

5 Insights About Where The Creator Economy Heading in 202510 Dec 202400:18:33

Content creator and influencer friends - are you aware of where the creator economy stands and the direction it's going in 2025?

One stat I was surprised to learn was that about 43% of the brands surveyed in the LTK x Northwestern University study shared that they plan to use creator content in connective TV (CTV) ads.

While content creators and influencers know their brand partners are repurposing their social media content on digital platforms like websites and email newsletters, they may need to know that their content may be intended for CTV (TV connected through the internet) and television commercials.

I'm sharing four more insights about where the creator economy is heading in 2025!

Mini-sode: 3 Work from Home Tips23 Mar 202300:10:09

Are you looking for a few work from home tips? Whether you're a freelancer, a content creator or a small business owner, if you’ve recently transitioned to working from home, this podcast episode is for you.

Tip 1: Create designated workspaces

At the beginning of the pandemic, I worked on our kitchen counter and my husband Brandon worked in our bedroom. We didn’t have the space for both of us to have work from home spaces. But when we bought our home, we knew we needed to have a home office.

Today,  Brandon and I share an office. I can work in the office and on the dining room table. I prefer a lot of light in the room.

If you live in a small space, I recommend even finding a blank wall and ordering a small desk to place your work items. It’s helpful to carve out a space to work.

Mini-sode: 3 More Prioritization Tips for Influencers16 Feb 202300:12:16

We recently discussed how to prioritize tasks as creators and influencers. And I was inspired to share 3 more prioritization tips! If you’re looking for more tips and ways to organize and prioritize tasks as a creative and small business owner, this episode is for you.

Tip 1: Use the Chunking Method

If you haven’t heard of the chunking method before, a chunk is described as a focused work activity. Instead of switching tasks every 30 min or every hour, you chunk out or time block your day.

If you want to try chunking or time blocking, I recommend thinking about your most productive hours of the day and then chunking your most important tasks into those hours. Some people feel most productive between 10am-12pm, others feel most productive between 7pm-9pm. I also recommend making sure you’re allowing breaks into your schedule in between chunks. Your brain and body needs time to step away from your work to reset and refuel.

How to Prioritize Tasks as a Creator07 Feb 202300:12:50

As creators and influencers, we manage a lot of tasks. From posting on TikTok to writing captions for Instagram, there are lots of tasks to do on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by all the things you need to do. I’ve found that understanding how to prioritize your tasks is critical for your sanity and longevity as a creator.

Step 1: Write down all your tasks

Personally, I start my week writing down all my personal and work tasks. I get them all down. I encourage you to also write down your tasks and then start to sort them by daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.

If you haven’t seen tasks broken down before, here’s a quick guide to daily, weekly, and monthly tasks:

Daily tasks: emails, meetings, posting on Instagram stories, tagging up with your virtual assistant, etc.

Weekly tasks: project related tasks like submitting a concept to brand partner or attending a weekly meeting with your podcast editor or VA.

Monthly tasks: tasks related to long term goals and projects – like writing out podcast outlines for the next month.

REPLAY: 3 Limiting Beliefs to Let Go as a Creator/Influencer (in 2023)26 Jan 202300:26:00

Today, we’re re-sharing 3 limiting beliefs to let go as creators and influencers. this episode originally aired in April 2022.

A limiting belief is a belief, repetitive thought, or state of mind about yourself that restricts you in some way. A limiting belief is a judgement about yourself – from you. We want to identify, discuss, and let go of these limiting beliefs that might be holding you back in your creative career.

Why is it important to identify, discuss, and then reframe our mindsets?

Limiting beliefs can keep us from exploring new opportunities, growing in new ways, and keep us in a negative mindset. We want to encourage you to see if any of these limiting beliefs resonate with you at a conscious and unconscious level. Holding limiting beliefs can ultimately keep us from going after our dreams.

What do you do when you don't feel like creating content?12 Jan 202300:12:52

As content creators and influencers, we’ve all felt the pressure to create new content all the time. We should be documenting, filming, snapping photos, and posting. But the truth is, we aren’t always in a creative mood. And this is probably a good thing. It’s 100% human to not feel 100% all the time.

Sometimes our creative juices are at 50%, sometimes our inspiration is at 95%. One of the best ways to prevent burnout is to listen to your body when you’re feeling like you need a break. It’s OKAY to not create content.

If you aren’t feeling inspired right now and you don’t feel like creating content, this podcast episode is for you. I’m sharing a few ways to refocus your energy and attention.

Today, we’re revisiting about a few ways on how to improve your copywriting skills as a creator (in 2023). As influencers and creators, we’re in the business of creating content. And a big part of creating content is using our writing skills.

What is copywriting?

·      Is the act of writing text for marketing and advertising.
·      Copy or written content is created and published to move customers and consumers through the sales funnel
·      Copy and copywriters can help brands and businesses increase awareness, drive intent, and purchase goods and services

Why is copywriting relevant to creators and influencers?

·      If you’re a creator with a blog, YouTube, Instagram, podcast, etc., copywriting is an important skill to have.

·      As creators, we’re constantly creating new content. We use content to build and engage with our communities. We use content to establish ourselves as authorities in our niches. And we use content to share our creativity.

REPLAY: 3 Ways to Improve Your Content Plan & Strategy (in 2023)29 Dec 202200:19:09

Today, we’re revisiting ways to improve your content plan and strategy (in 2023). No matter what platforms you create content for, it’s important to outline your content plan and strategy.

What is a content plan?

A content plan includes your topics – aligned with your niches and content pillars, your content types – photos, videos, audio, or copy, and your platforms – where your content will be published.

What is a content strategy?

Your content strategy guides the creation and deliverable of useful or usable content. For content creators and influencers, content strategy means creating content with your mission, audience, and business goals in mind.

It means delivering content within context to your platforms. For example, if your main platform is Instagram, you’ll be creating photos, videos, and copy that are aligned with who you are, who your audience is, and your mission. This also means selecting the appropriate hashtags that are related to your brand, your audience, and your mission.

REPLAY: How to make rest a priority as a content creator (in 2023)27 Dec 202200:18:06

With 2023 just around the corner, we want to remind you to continue to make rest a priority.  For those of you who are in this space, you probably recognize how taxing it can be. As creators we are expected to wear multiple hats in order to be successful in our roles, and we are expected to be “on” and online 24/7.

Why is rest important?

First and foremost, because you and your health should always be your #1 priority. No matter
what anyone else says, taking care of yourself is absolutely crucial to leading a happy and healthy life. But if you’re like me and need a little more encouragement to rest up, it’s also important to realize that you don’t produce your best work when you are exhausted. You can’t give 100% if you’re not at 100%!

REPLAY: How do you determine what you should focus on as a creator (in 2023)?08 Dec 202200:23:46

Are you planning your goals and priorities for 2023? We're replaying episode 137 to help you figure out what to put your attention on as you set your goals for next year.

There are so many things to learn as a new influencer or content creator. It can feel overwhelming to navigate the world of content creation. Today, we're breaking down how to figure out what you should focus on as a creator.

Tip 1: Figure out what Creator Life Stage You’re On

Not every influencer is on the same chapter or page of their journey. There are creators just getting started and there are influencers who are more mature in their journey. No matter that stage you’re at, understanding where you’re at as a creator can help you determine what to focus on in 2022.

Here are the 4 Creator Life Stages:

Seed: As a seed, you’re a new influencer. You just started your TikTok, YouTube or Instagram.

Questions you’re asking as a Seed:

·      Who am I as a brand?

·      How do I take photos or videos?

·      Do I like creating content?

Sprout: As a Sprout, you’re a new-ish influencer, but you’ve already started or established your social channel and platform like an Instagram, blog, or TikTok.

As a new-ish influencer, you understand the importance of hashtags and you’ve built up your audience. But you might be focused on learning the business side of the influencer industry.

Questions you might be asking as a Sprout:

·      What should be my content pillars or niches?

·      How do I build community and trust?

·      How do I work with brands?

Daisy: As a Daisy, you’re a mature influencer with one or more established social media channels and/or platforms.

As a mature content creator, you’ve established your brand and you’ve experienced making money off your side-hustle or full-time creative career. You know who you are as a brand. You know exactly who your audience is. You know the value you bring as a creator.

Here are questions you might be asking as a Daisy:

  • How do I grow and scale my brand and business?
  • How do I diversify my platforms and increase my reach?
  • How do I consistently make money as a creator?

Sunflower: As a Sunflower, you have established your brand across multiple platforms. You know who you are, who your audience is, the value you bring, and you’re consistently making money as a creator.

Questions you might be asking as a Sunflower:

·      What’s next for my career?

·      What products and services should I expand next?

·      What can I do next to expand my audience?

LTKCon 2024 Recap: Interviewing Amber Venx Box, walking through the Brand Suites, and meeting influencer friends IRL20 Nov 202400:25:11

As a creator who originally started her blog in 2014, I’ve been aware of LTK and LTK Con since my early years as a creator. If you're an influencer interested in attending LTK Con for the first time, this episode is for you.

 What is LTKCon?

Hosted by creator platform LTK, LTKCon invites creators and brands to celebrate, learn, and recognize top performers in the LTK community.

This year, LTKCon spanned 3 days in Dallas, Texas. Out of the 300,000 creators signed up on LTK, 300 influencers were extended the invitation to attend.

A few highlights from my very first LTK Con include:

  • Learning that 20% of attendees are LTK millionaires. I am NOT a part of this incredible stat but was shocked to learn how well creators are doing on LTK.
  • Speaking with Amber Venz Box, the co-founder and president of LTK, to learn the history of LTKCon and how influencers can get an invite to this event.
  • Brand networking events - including the Aritzia party.
  • Networking with other creator friends!

REPLAY: 5 Ways to Batch Content for Your Social Media Channels 02 Dec 202200:25:11

Today we’re replaying episode 156 to reshare tips on batching content for your blog, Instagram, and other social media channels. I'm (Emma) is currently on vacation in Europe so I'm replaying some of my favorite episodes!

If you’re balancing content creation with a side hustle, school, or full-time job, and want to be able to share new content on a regular basis, this episode is for you.

What does it mean to batch content?

Batching is referred to as “completing a small set of tasks in a period of time”. In blogging, we batch content: which is photos, written content like captions, blog posts, and podcast outlines, to be more efficient with our time.

Tip 1: Spend one hour at the beginning of the week writing Instagram captions for that week.

Tip #2: Plan your feed out at the beginning of the week.

There are great tools out there like Planoly or Unum to help you plan your Instagram feed.

The benefits of planning your feed out ahead of time:

·      You aren’t scrambling that day to find a photo to post.

·      You know that the photo is going to look nice/cohesive with your feed before you post it.

·      You’ll be less stressed knowing what photos are coming up next to be published.
