The Animal Services Division manages the Coweta County Animal Shelter for homeless animals. This facility not only serves as a safe haven for these animals but also actively promotes pet adoption, connecting them with loving families who can provide a forever home.

In addition to its adoption efforts, Animal Services enforces local animal control regulations, which help maintain public safety and ensure the welfare of pets in Coweta County. The team conducts regular inspections and investigations to address neglect and abuse issues, helping protect animals and residents.

The Probate Court of Coweta County handles a variety of matters, including guardianships of minors and incapacitated adults, cases involving decedent’s estates, and mental health evaluations and/or treatment, as well as other miscellaneous types of cases such as birth certificate amendments, boundary line disputes, and certain cases concerning trusts. Additionally, applications for marriage and weapons carry licenses are processed in Probate Court.

Get behind-the-scenes with Warden Larry Clifton of the Corrections Division.

Warden Clifton has been with Coweta County for almost 25 years. He oversees the Coweta County Prison & Work Release Program, along with Animal Services.  

Warden Clifton began his career with the Corrections Division as an Officer in October 1999, working his way up the ranks and serving in various positions within the department. In 2021, he was recommended by the Board of Commissioners and approved as Warden of the Coweta County Prison by the Georgia Board of Corrections.

SPLOST, or Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, was enacted by Georgia legislators in 1985. The law authorizes a county sales tax of 1%, approved by voters for a set period that's used for funding specific capital projects, typically pertaining to transportation, public safety, parks and recreation and some general government. 

SPLOST is updated every 5-6 years with an intergovernmental agreement between the county and municipalities. Since 1986, Coweta County voters have invested in SPLOST.
