| Rolling Review -Tokyo 24-ku | 23 May 2022 | 00:20:49 | |
The Con Artists Podcast: Rolling Review 23 In a world where surveillance is threatening the 24th District, three heroes will rise up to take on trolley dilemmas and save their friend/sister/girlfriend who died in a fire years prior. There'll be some girl who desperately wanted a complicated romance plot, a dude in a cowboy hat who now licks spray paint cans, and a scene where one of our heroes ziplines into a drug addict's window and smashes him in the face with a skateboard. The only thing more powerful than having large pecks for bread-making, is going full vigilante with a sacred donut handoff. Everything about this show is excellent and after listening to us you definitely won't wonder if Cloverworks is being worked into an early grave.

End of Cour Spring 2021

Afterschool Dice Club The Con Artists: Rolling Review #16 Fall 2019
Join the Con Artists as they use a sound-only format to discuss a visual-only medium try to get across the fun of a tactile pastime! We even succeed (probably)! Dan discusses game design, Brendan has some insights into the theme songs, Scott just wants Blokus to get some love, and everyone agrees with Su that the Ladies and Gentlemen board game would be hilarious to take way too seriously. Now if only Emmy got the screen time she obviously deserved...

| Fall 2019 End of Cour | 14 Jan 2020 | 00:53:58 | |
End of Cour Fall 2019 It's a lean season this time around but that doesn't stop us from chatting it up! Don't you want to hear about Baylon?! Hint...no...no you don't. Dan needs to take up Basket Weaving. Su's all about them sequels and actually rags on Chihayafuru a little. Scott makes his abilities average in his next life and Dan is not impressed by your Viking nonsense. At least there's more Carol and Tuesday. There's also lovey-dovey-friendship time for all who have tragic backstories. Come on down and have a listen! Note from Su: Before all the MHA fans get mad at me...Eri's quirk had not been revealed explicitly in the show prior to us recording this podcast. I describe her quirk as best as I understood it for the time. The Shows covered in this Podcast are: Vinland Saga; Dr. Stone; Carole and Tuesday; Kono Oto Tomare S2; Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in my next life; Babylon; Chuubyou Gekihatsu Boy; Chihayafuru S3; My Hero Academia S4 Please visit us at: https://theconartistsblog.com/ and subscribe to our feed (http://theconartists.podbean.com/feed/) to get more podcasts!

A girl who lives in tent gets attacked by a mudslide and then lives in a house with numerous hot men. They turn into animals when she accidentally hugs them. Tohru is many types of "adjective for beautiful" baked goods. Uo and Hana are her amazing friend moms. This show is also really dark at times. Don't live in a tent kids. Hug hot men instead!

The intro music is: ISnAK: "17 Sai" by Haruka to Miyuki The outro music is: ISnAK: "Mimei no Kimi to Hakumei no Mahō" by Nagi Yanagi
Hitomi long ago lost the ability to see color, and blames the mild magical abilities common to her family. Her grandmother sees things differently, and magically sends her 60 years into the past on a journey of self-discovery and friendship. There, she meets and gradually opens up to members of the photography club, and in so doing starts to recover her colors. A soft, enjoyable drama with some beautiful use of color. Plus a fancy magical fish drawing… of mystery!

Planet With The Con Artists: Rolling Review #12 Summer 2018
The intro music is: "One Unit" by Minami The outro music is: "Rainbow Planet" by Mai Fuchigami
Soya is the lone survivor of xenocide. He has a maid and a weird cat dude in his house to help him cope. He becomes the villain, then he becomes the good guy, and then love saves the day. Or something. The dragon is fat and ugly, the CG is weird and ugly and nobody should ever allow Japan to read Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End again. This show just rips off the names and the concepts and then has a catbot fight a dogbot. No I'm not kidding. Were you hoping all the psychological plot stuff was going to pay off? Yeah...so were we...

Golden Kamuy The Con Artists: Rolling Review #11 Spring 2018
The intro music is: GK OP: "Winding Road" by MAN WITH A MISSION The outro music is: GK ED: "Hibana" by THE SIXTH LIE
Immortal Sugimoto, a seemingly unkillable former soldier from the Russo-Japanese war, goes on a hunt for a massive gold treasure with the unlikely aid of Asirpa, a young Ainu girl. Others, notably a rogue element of the Japanese military, are also searching for it. What follows is a brutal, violent, and frequently deadly story that is generally well-told and solidly animated. Just watch out for rogue Orca whale attacks… on land.

What is beyond than the universe? It's Antarctica and you need to pay your own way to come along if you’re a crazy team of high school girls. If you take up the whole bed I will murder you. The boat is going to make you sea sick and as cute as the penguins are...they stink REALLY bad. Shirase, Mari, Hinata and Yuzuki take the trip of a lifetime and learn valuable lessons along the way. This show is gorgeous, and heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at the same time. There's sexy meat festivals and Diamond Mineral Powerful Water. Watch this show now, or face the durian challenge. Was it a sexy gravure photo shoot?!?

Children of the Whales (Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau) The Con Artists: Rolling Review #9 Fall 2017
The intro music is: CotW OP: "Sono Saki" by RIRIKO The outro music is: CotW ED: "Hashidairo" by rionos
A fascinating look at the unique lifestyle of a civilization built on the back of a massive sand-sea-faring “whale”. At least for one episode. Then a bunch of cat-eared clown troopers (no joke) show up and wreck the place. The rest of the show is a mixture of uninteresting characters, impossibly overdramatized scenes, and laughable and confusing allies and enemies. One of the fastest transitions from “interesting premise” to “godawful execution” we’ve seen in a long time.

Made in Abyss The Con Artists: Rolling Review #8 Summer 2017
The intro music is: "Deep in Abyss" by Riko (Miyu Tomita) and Regu (Mariya Ise) The outro music is: "Tabi no Hidarite, Saihate no Migite" by Riko (Miyu Tomita) and Regu (Mariya Ise) (eps 2-9)
There's a large pit in the center of town. It's known as the Abyss and some say it holds a bounty of treasure. If you train to be a White Whistle you can venture far below into the Abyss. When Riko finds a robot boy, she finally seizes the chance to pursue her long lost mother. Diving deep into the Abyss she'll encounter great mystery and even greater danger. Don't go towards those cries for help. The Corpse Eaters are luring you in. Don't try and climb back up from Level 4 or deeper. You will straight up die. Bring a box of tissues because you are going to cry while watching this show. At least the water bears are adorable.

She's got to collect the seven words and save the day along with all her magical gal pals. Bonus points for witches flying on evil Roombas, that time everybody gets covered in moss, and magical creature union negotiation. Diana is the best character. Fight me.

Amanchu! The Con Artists: Rolling Review #5 Summer 2016
The intro music is: "Million Clouds" by Maaya Sakamoto The outro music is: "Futari Shoujo" by Tekopikari (Ai Kayano & Eri Suzuki)
Amanchu! is WHOOP about 2 girls who end up in the WHOOP WHOOP diving club together. Futaba is super shy and diving helps her WHOOP WHOOP come out of her shell. Hikari WHOOP RADIATES LIKE THE SUN. The twins WHOOP WHOOP are a joke that served only to make all of us very angry (female violence towards men is not funny Japan..), and the teacher should be WHOOOOOP arrested for letting it happen. At least it looked pretty. Did you find that "WHOOP"ing to be annoying?! So did we! I'm going to turn into a Muppet now!
