Help! it's another episode of the podcast

Season 1 · Episode 2

vendredi 6 décembre 2024Duration 17:12

In this week's episode of the Cine Club Podcast, we dive into the whimsical world of the 1965 film "Help!" directed by Richard Lester and starring none other than the Beatles themselves. In this episode, cinephiles Jake, Rhys, Matthew, and Dion all share their favourite Beatle.

We kick off the discussion by reflecting on our recent horror selections, including "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "A Bucket of Blood," before transitioning to the lighthearted absurdity of "Help!" Matthew, our resident 60s music expert, explains why he chose this film, following our previous exploration of "A Hard Day's Night." He highlights the charm and humour of both films, noting how "Help!" takes the absurdity to new heights.

As always, we invite you to reach out to us with your thoughts and suggestions. This episode was recorded and produced by the Cineclub members at the University of Sunderland, with special thanks to our technical team and academic staff. Join us next time as we continue our cinematic journey!

“I’ll have what she’s having”: CineClub and Rom-Coms

Season 1 · Episode 48

vendredi 9 janvier 2026Duration 36:30

We’re back after the festive break and exploring the Rom-Com genre with old hands Matthew and Jake and newbies Amy and Samantha.

The team pick out some favourites: Annie Hall (1977), When Harry Met Sally (1989) Notting Hill (1999) and the less well-known Swedish film Four More Years (2010).

The discussion naturally focusses on love and laughs and the difficulties of making comedy work across cultural boundaries. Is there such a thing as ‘British cosy’? Perhaps Hugh Grant might know…

Our presenters are Matthew, Jake, Ben, Amy and Samantha. The episode was engineered and edited by Emily Main.

Let us know your favourite Rom-Com using the email below or sending a message on our Instagram.
