As we wrap up our discipleship series, today's episode takes us into the heartfelt world of parenting adult children. I'm joined by Pamela Henkleman, a beacon of wisdom for mid-life moms, to explore this unique stage of our parenting journey. In our conversation, Pamela offers some incredible insights:
Pamela reminds us of a powerful perspective that I believe we all need to hear: "Help me not to judge my kids for where they are at. Judging them is not my job, my job is to love them, help me to love. Humility and tenderness go a long way." This quote encapsulates the essence of today's discussion and serves as a gentle reminder of our role as parents, no matter the age of our children. This episode is not just for those of us approaching or navigating the empty nest phase; it's a timeless reminder of the enduring nature of parental love. | How to explain the Holy Spirit to kids with Christie Thomas | 23 Jan 2024 | 00:27:22
Are you ready for week 2 of our exciting series on discipling kids?! Today, we're diving into a topic that I find both fascinating and challenging: explaining the Holy Spirit to our children. It’s abstract, a bit tough to grasp, and that's exactly why I want us to understand it better. I believe that with a clearer understanding, we can talk to our kids about the Holy Spirit in a way that's easier and less intimidating for all of us! Joining me today is the incredible Christie Thomas, author of Fruit Full. Christie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our discussion. She has spent years teaching kids about Jesus, and now she's here to help us do the same. She’s not only a gifted author but also a devoted wife and mom. Currently homeschooling her three sons, Christie's passion for children’s ministry shines through in everything she does. Today we'll explore who the Holy Spirit is and, just as importantly, who he is not. We'll address some common misconceptions and discuss how we can explain his role and the fruit of the Spirit to our kids. I know it sounds like a lot, but trust me, this conversation is enlightening and incredibly helpful. One of my favorite parts of today's talk is when we dive into how we often teach our kids about the fruit of the Spirit in relation to behavior and morals. Christie points out a crucial aspect – we might be missing the mark if we stop there. This discussion is practical, helpful, and I truly believe it will be beneficial for both you and your children. So, don’t let the complexity of today’s topic keep you from tuning in. Join us, learn, and be encouraged by our friend Christie Thomas. And if you're looking to deepen your journey in discipleship, don’t forget to check out Christie's book, Fruit Full, it is a great devotional Remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave a review if you find this episode valuable. | The busy-ness of parenting with Dina Deleasa-Gonsar | 02 Jan 2024 | 00:36:36
I’m sure many of you are in the same season of parenting that I am in—busy. Every season of parenting is busy in its own way! It’s just amazing how it changes and changes so fast, yet remains busy.
My guest today, Dina Deleasa-Gonsar totally gets it and is here to talk about it!
Dina is the creator, writer, speaker, and television personality behind the popular food blog DishItGirl.com. Dina is known for sharing her family traditions and modern twists on recipes along with an inside look at her real-life as a mom and wife.
Today Dina and I talk about the overwhelm of parenting, managing activities and setting boundaries, and how social media adds to the pressure of doing it all and doing it perfectly. Dina reminds us that re-prioritizing so you don’t burn out from the busy is good, but sometimes you have to take inventory of what you and your family is doing.
I love what she shares about making sure we prioritize faith, church and Jesus just like we prioritize activities. Because God is faithful in the busy and when our kids grow up and the activities end, Jesus will stay. Listen to the end because Dina gives us some tips for meal planning and shares her favorite ideas for those busy weeknights! | How to talk to your kids about pornography Greta Eskridge | 26 Dec 2023 | 00:35:26
What age should we start talking to our kids about pornography? How do we explain it to them? How should the conversation change as my kids grow?
These are some of the questions that every parent has when parenting in 2023. They’re not fun questions and they can make us feel really uncomfortable. But my friend, Greta Eskridge is here today to answer those questions and more!
This is Greta’s second time on the podcast and I am so glad to have her back! This episode was fun because we were able to record in person in my studio!
Greta and I cover all the difficult, but important things about parenting in the age of pornography. We talk about how Greta became a leading voice in empowering parents to talk to their kids about pornography, why pornography is a problem in homes, but also in the church, how the pornography industry is working to make porn accessible to kids, and how we can fight against that.
We get really practical in this episode as Greta gives us scripts for how we can talk about this topic age by age (from young kids to high schoolers) and how to talk to our kids if and when they are exposed to pornography. We also talk about how to help our kids enter the world of technology safely
This is a really important episode that you do not want to miss!

| The big questions our boys ask with Katy Boatman | 19 Dec 2023 | 00:28:47 | |
What if I mess my kids up? What if I fail at my job? What if I’m actually doing it all wrong?
These are some of the “what if” questions that I wrestle with. I think we all have big “what if” questions, they’re all just a little different depending on our experiences, wiring, and situations.
Our kids have questions like this too and my guest today, Katy Boatman, is here to walk us through that. Katy is a writer and marketer, but her favorite role is being an aunt to Shelby, Blake, and Ellie. Katy has spent fifteen years mentoring girls through student ministry, and she is passionate about helping them understand who God is and reminding them they are not alone.
Katy’s devotional, You Can Trust, addresses many of the questions boys have from what if my team loses? to what if God changes his mind about me? And the answers always point back to God’s enduring faithfulness.
Today Katy and I are talking about preteen boys and the “what if” questions they wrestle with, the need kids have for stability and truth as they grow up and ask questions, how girls and boys learn about and respond to God differently, and the need for devotionals and other resources for preteen boys.
I hope this is helpful for both boy moms and girl moms, too! Girl moms, check out Katy’s devotional just for preteen girls! Today I am joined by Colton Dixon. Colton is an American Idol finalist and Christian singer/songwriter. His music has won numerous awards and he has had the opportunity to perform in some incredible places. Most importantly, Colton is a husband and the dad of two three year old girl twins.
Colton has so much to share about how his faith has influenced his parenting and his music, how we are here to serve, not be served, why we need to steward our time and abilities well, and he reminds us that our identity is not how others see us, but our identity is in Christ. He also shares what he was like as a kid and encourages parents who are raising creative and passionate kids: hint, is has less to do with parenting right and more to do with the time you spend.
I love at the very beginning when he gives Biblical encouragement for all the parents who sometimes have to travel for work. God sees you and is full of grace!

| Helping siblings forgive one another with Courtney DeFeo | 05 Dec 2023 | 00:38:41 | |
If your house is anything like mine, you are all too familiar with rushed and fake apologies. Siblings get in a fight and one apologized to the other under their breath while rolling their eye at the same time. Can you relate?
Today I am joined by my friend, Courtney DeFeo, and she is helping us emphasize forgiveness in our houses. Courtney and her husband, Ron, decided forgiveness was going to be one of their core family values so today she is sharing how to prioritize and model forgiveness in our homes.
Courtney and I also touch on the challenge of raising our oldest kids (because we don’t know what we are doing), the difference between conviction and shame, and how you have to decide what is helpful in your parenting vs. what is harmful and making you feel shame.
I love how she encourages us to quit comparing ourselves to other moms—God made us all unique to parent our own unique kids and we can rest in that.
Courtney is the host of Pardon the Mess, an author, a speaker, a mom of two teenage daughters, wife to Ron, and a proud dog mom. | A new perspective on Thanksgiving with Raymond Arroyo | 21 Nov 2023 | 00:28:12
Hi Friends! We have a fun interview today, just in time for Thanksgiving! Most of us know that there is a funny little tradition for the President to pardon a turkey on Thanksgiving day. But do you know where that tradition came from? It actually started with Abraham Lincoln and his son, Tad. My guest today Raymond Arroyo wrote a children’s book that tells the story!
Today Raymond and I talk about how we are parenting in a challenging time, but we can learn from parents who have gone before us, the influence we have in our kids lives and the influence they have in ours, how Abraham Lincoln grew in faith over the years, what he meant Thanksgiving to be, and what mercy means for us and our kids.
I hope this episode gives you a unique perspective on my personal favorite holiday! I put a link for mirliton dressing below, so you can try a new recipe this year! She is a former National PTA Family Engagement fellow and board member. Her 12 years of PTA volunteer work include local, council and state leadership roles, and leading her middle school to become a National PTA School of Excellence.
Today she is helping us understand a parent's role in their child’s education, the difference between grades and grade level performance, how we can best support our kids in school, and how we can show our teachers appreciation.

| Raising confident kids vs. kids who need to perform with Terra Mattson | 14 Nov 2023 | 00:35:07 | |
Terra Mattson is a dear friend of Christian Parenting and someone I really look up to as both a mom and a woman of faith, so I cannot wait for you to hear from her today.
Terra is a licensed marriage and family therapist and executive coach who authored Courageous: Being Daughters Rooted in Grace and partnered with Christian Parenting to develop the Helping Moms Raise Confident Daughter Courses.
Today we talk about performance based parenting…what is performance based parenting and how do we know if we are doing it? The truth is being human is messy and it doesn’t always look perfect so sometimes we try to become perfect and performance based---but the message of the gospel is the opposite of that. So how do we raise our kids with this in mind? How do we help them through struggles and point them to Jesus and his grace? We also talk about the importance of doing our own work in this area so that we can help our kids discover their identity in Christ.
You will love this conversation!

| Embracing God's plan for your life with Tabitha Schmitt | 31 Oct 2023 | 00:34:26 | |
Today I am joined by my friend Tabitha Schmitt, who has one of the most powerful stories of God’s faithfulness that I know. Tabby was 36 weeks pregnant with her second baby when she found out he would have extreme special needs. But God, in his goodness, took a story that the world would consider tragic and radically transformed her heart and changed the direction of her family forever.
Tabby is a wife, a mom of three, an artist, a children’s book author, a small business owner and is passionate about raising a generation of fiery warriors for God’s Kingdom.
Today Tabby and I talk about how God writes our stories, directs our paths, and prepares the way for us. He works all things together for good, even when we can’t figure out how. She encourages us that it’s okay to raise our kids in a way that is different from what the world views as “normal” because we are not supposed to be of the world anyway.

| Creating family faith traditions with Danielle Hitchen | 17 Oct 2023 | 00:32:06 | |
Most of us probably don’t think about church history in our everyday lives, but there is a lot that we can learn about our faith from studying church history and it doesn’t need to be boring! Our guest today, Danielle Hitchen, wrote a book called Sacred Seasons that is part theology, part church history, and part practical spirituality. In it Danielle provides an easy-to-use guide to observing the liturgical year complete with fun activities, delicious recipes, and meaningful liturgies. Today we talk about the church calendar and the history behind many of the holidays that we celebrate as Christians today. Danielle touches on how the church calendar can help us create really fun and memorable faith traditions with our kids, she shares some practical things you can do with your kids to incorporate faith in everyday life, and she shares how church history can help inform our decision about if and how we celebrate Halloween.
Her explanation of things like the church calendar, saints, and the origins of holidays was really interesting to me and I think you will find it interesting as well! | Your marriage has a purpose with Aaron and Jennifer Smith | 03 Oct 2023 | 00:34:06
Our marriages are the foundations of our families, but with the busyness of parenting, it can be easy to overlook them! We know date nights are important, but they are hard to schedule with schedules and finances. We know praying together is important, but it can feel awkward sometimes!
My guests today, Aaron and Jennifer Smith, are here to talk about praying in our marriages and finding purpose in our marriages. Aaron and Jennifer are the voices behind Marriage After God. They co-host the Marriage After God podcast, wrote the books Husband After God and Wife After God, and their latest book is The Marriage Gift.
Today, Aaron and Jennifer challenge us to rethink the purpose of marriage and share how to find purpose in your own marriage. They remind us that our marriage is a ministry and should always reflect the love of God. We also discuss why praying as a couple can sometimes be hard and what you can do to make it easier.
I hope you love this episode and I challenge you to listen to it and then ask your spouse, how you can use your marriage, talents, and resources to serve God’s kingdom around you? | Raising the next generation of believers with Korie and Willie Robertson | 26 Sep 2023 | 00:32:18
It was so fun to be able to sit down and chat with Korie and Willie Robertson. Many of us have spent years following Korie, Willie, and their family, but for those of you who are not familiar with the couple, Korie and Willie are a husband and wife duo, parents of six kids, grandparents to five, authors, speakers, and stars of A&E’s "Duck Dynasty."
Today they are talking about the new movie, The Blind, which tells the story of Willie’s parents, Phil and Kay. Phil had a radical conversion to Christianity that changed the course of his marriage, family, business, and legacy. This movie covers it all! It is a film about hope, redemption, and the power of Jesus.
Willie and Korie share their heart behind making this film and they share their conviction that no family is too far gone for God to redeem. We talk about how Phil was passionate about sharing his faith with others and passed that passion onto Willie, who passed it onto his kids. Now generations of Christians in the Robertson family actively share their faith and continue to make an impact on the world because of one man’s conversion. Our families can do the same! Willie reminds us that you can leave a legacy of faith in your family by keeping God first, then family, and then your job. We also touch on the importance of family, community and church supporting people during difficult times, how to model faith and character to your kids, and how the decisions parents make have a huge impact on their kids for the rest of their lives.
You will be inspired by this interview and I hope you go see the film on September 28! Connect with Willie and Korie:

| Family Faith Rhythms with Kayla Craig | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:33:23 | |
It is always a joy to be joined by one of our Christian Parenting Podcast Network hosts. Each host brings something special to the network and Kayla Craig is no exception! She has a heart for helping families slow down and grow spiritually alongside each other. Kayla is the host of the podcast, Liturgies for Parents and the author of To Light Their Way. Her new book is called Every Season Sacred and it’s an invitation for families to slow down, ask questions, and grow closer to Jesus in an intentional way. Today Kayla and I talk about the difference between being a consumer Christian and a Christian who is active in faith and relationship with Jesus, how to care for our own souls so we can live into our values and bring our kids into a faith journey, and how family faith rhythms and liturgies can help us connect with Jesus and each other as a family. I really love the question she challenges us to think about for our own families: what do we want people to see in our family that makes them realize we are different as followers of Jesus? | Raising Kind Daughters with Kari Kampakis | 12 Sep 2023 | 00:30:14
I grew up with two sisters so coming from an all-girl family, I was completely unprepared to have two sons. But as soon as I felt adjusted to life as a boy mom, I had a daughter! Raising a daughter is everything I always dreamed it would be, and also as challenging as I imagined it would be. Which is why I am so grateful for wise experts like today’s guest, Kari Kampakis.
Kari is a mom of four girls, the host of the Girl Mom podcast, and author of several books including, More Than a Mom and Love Her Well.
While being a girl is so different today than it was when we were growing up, some things remain relatively the same and one of those things is the challenge of learning to navigate friendships. Today Kari and I cover some of the messaging that girls receive about themselves and how we can reframe those messages, how to raise kind daughters, the importance of speaking truth over our girls, how to navigate friendships, and Kari reminds us that it all goes back to Jesus. I hope you enjoy this conversation!
