Self-Care for First Responders Essential Strategies to Prevent Burnout and Enhance Performance with Chris Chandler-Yates25 Jul 202301:10:39

In this episode, Chris Chandler-Yates shared with me his personal experience as a police officer and how that rebuilt his life after a career of trauma. Being a former police officer has really influenced him a lot into doing what he does now. Chris joined the NZ Police in 2011 and after a seven-year career, he experienced severe burnout that caused him to leave the job he once loved.

After a journey of self-care, recovery, and personal development, he's now hyper passionate about helping officers take charge of their mental health and significantly reduce the chance of burnout. He lives to ensure others learn to see themselves so they don't go through the pain he once experienced.

Chris speaks very vulnerably and openly about the personal challenges he faced from burnout, such as almost breaking his marital vows, as well as some of the tough cases that led him there, and the impact they still have on him today, such as losing his sense of smell after one particular case. Chris is incredibly real, and I know he’s not the only officer who has struggled to this degree…but he is one of the few who are courageous enough to speak about it in a public forum.

You can find him on his website createfromwhy.com

In this episode, you will learn:

  • What is the life of being a police officer
  • Root causes of trauma responses
  • The importance of knowing “why” you do what you do

Critical Blindspots of Modern Healthcare with Matt Archer04 Jul 202301:02:23

In this episode, Matt Archer joins me to discuss "The critical blindspots of modern healthcare”.  He takes a skeptical approach to manual muscle testing, applied kinesiology, and chiropractic and developed an incredibly effective system, described in his book, “The Protocol for Health: Seven Unexpected Solutions”.

While often contrary to popular ideas, The Protocol has a sensible foundation that simplifies healthcare and is effective with the full spectrum of symptoms. He practices in Northern California and consults remotely.

I really enjoyed my interview with Matt! He struck me as very compassionate, with a deep understanding of some physical causes to chronic pain that lay within the gut microbiome. His experience has led him to be quite steadfast and confident in his beliefs, and this new system he’s developed to help people feel better in a relatively short period of time.

You can find him on his website https://www.theprotocolforhealth.com

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How zinc deficiency and weak stomach acid is the greatest cause of disease.
  • How adrenal fatigue is surprisingly easy to address but intermittent fasting makes it worse.
  • How vitamin and mineral deficiencies are universal and drive many specific symptoms and are a major blindspot in modern healthcare and laboratory testing.

Cognomovement and weight loss with Michelle Tubman21 Mar 202300:39:46

In this episode, Katie is talking about her own former battle with her body image and how that battle was impacting her experience with pain.

For most of her adult life, starting in high school, Katie really struggled with body image. She recalls looking in the mirror with horror, wishing she looked different…and hating her reflection. Regardless of what her weight was at any given time, Katie never felt comfortable in her body. She was either “too fat” or “too skinny” or “a little round” or “my ass is still too big”.

It wasn’t until Cognomovement that Katie was able to turn that around and accept her physical body. Doing so not only helped Katie admire her reflection rather than loathe it, it also helped release more of her pain.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Katie’s former struggles with her weight and how they were laced into her experience with pain
  • How Cognomovement can help you lose weight
  • How Cognomovement can shift your body image perception

Chirodontics and More with Dr Christopher Boyhan07 Mar 202301:03:57

In this episode of The Pain Changer™ podcast, I speak with Dr Christopher Boyhan about chiropractic and a specific branch of chiropractic called chirodontics. This was a new term for me, and I am officially fascinated by what chirodontics can do to help you!

Dr. Boyhan was born and raised in Northern New Jersey where he was a competitive student-athlete in both football and wrestling. He went on to play football for the University of Massachusetts only to have inconsistent health derail his athletic career. But, he learned at a young age to not accept no as an answer, and it's this mindset that helped him learn to overcome the many obstacles life presented to him on his journey.

It is his mission in this life to help people learn how to solve their own problems by building a bridge from health care to personal development. He has narrowed the essential elements of health down to nerve flow, exercise, and water.  Simple and oh-so-important!

Boyhan earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine from William Paterson University with honors and was awarded honors at Sherman College of Chiropractic where he earned his Doctorate degree.

Prior to becoming a chiropractor, he worked as an athletic trainer for ten years at the collegiate and high school level, and also worked as a medical devices sales representative for orthopaedic trauma and spinal surgery in the Northeast region of the U.S.

In his free time, Boyhan does his "neurology homework" and learns powerful new health and wellness additions to his practice like chirodontics, the best water systems, and more!

I really enjoyed this conversation with Chris! He is entertaining, insightful and very passionate about his work. You’ve heard me say it before and I will say it again: that passion is something to look for in a provider, as they will be giving you more of themselves with that drive to help you.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How the bones in your skull affect your entire body
  • What happens when pain or a diagnosis becomes part of your identity
  • Different ways a stress response will show up in the body: like an asthma attack
  • The importance of going upstream to solve the problem

The Carnivore Diet with Casey Ruff24 Jan 202301:30:46

In this episode of The Pain Changer™ podcast, Casey Ruff joined me to talk about the carnivore diet. Casey has been a certified personal trainer since 2007. He successfully ran a metabolic testing program for a large gym and oversaw 13 programs in the west region.

He has multiple certifications as a personal trainer, lifestyle coach, and performance enhancement specialist. With his nutrition coaching certifications, he specializes in low-carbohydrate lifestyles, including ketogenic and carnivore diets. He has helped thousands of clients over fourteen years learn how to achieve their best lifestyle through movement, lifestyle management, and proper diet.

Together with Bethany, they created Boundless Body LLC during the 2020 pandemic. He is the host of two podcasts, Boundless Body Radio, and The How To Make a Podcast Podcast. He lives in South Jordan, Utah, with his wife Bethany, and their two dogs Rex and Tucker and their cat Lily. In his free time, he loves to cycle, play hockey, and paddleboard.

This diet was completely counterintuitive to me, and Casey clearly has the education to be able to teach you about this diet…so I had to know more! Casey makes it really easy to understand the science behind it, and he did a great job of answering the ethical questions that come up with a 100% animal based diet, as well as sharing experiences he’s seen with clients reporting fewer body aches on the carnivore diet. I’ve even started to follow this diet myself and I share my results on this show. The one result I totally forgot to share, because my focus was on health, not weight…was that I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks!!!!!!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The science behind the carnivore diet and how your body adapts to the absence of plants
  • The reason cold cereal was invented - you will be shocked
  • How sustainable and ethical the carnivore diet can be
  • My own results and observations the first 2 weeks of the diet
