NATIONAL NAME YOUR CAR DAY02 Oct 202400:38:27
Did you know October 2nd is National Name Your Car Day? It's not a federal holiday (yet) but here at the Carpool Podcast this is a day you know we had to recognize!  That is why Kelly came back from maternity leave to have an intense conversation with Sunny Karassik from Capital One about the top car names and what we have named our cars. If you know Kelly, you know naming things is one of her passions so she has a LOT of thoughts!  Plus, a little update on the newest member of the family - Elizabeth Rose Stumpe!
MATERNITY LEAVE BEGINS... NOW! 29 Aug 202401:01:04
It's the final episode before maternity leave! Kelly and Lizz break down the maternity leave plans and give one final baby name clue. There's a brand new Millennial Word of the Day brought to you not by gen Z, but gen Alpha. What exactly is a "Sigma"? The driveway is full with discussions of the weird new product from the Spanx founder and Chuck-e-Cheese induced trauma. Industry news is full of hot takes on what car brands we don't think will last much longer. Finally, in the the last Thawgust of the month, Kelly and Lizz reminder everyone just how easy it is to make meatballs! Stop wasting money on things you don’t use. Cancel your unwanted subscriptions by going to RocketMoney.com/Carpool.
DO WE NEED A SHOWER CAP?30 Jul 202400:51:59
Absence makes the driveway dump list longer, so Kelly is ready for the Carpool today. She kicks off the episode with another reminder to utilize your iPhone features and wraps with a baby name clue—hint, she won't be taking the Harry Potter theme route. Today's millennial word of the day is 'it was a movie' meaning it was so good it could have hit the big screen. Kelly and Lizz try to break down a 'brat girl summer' again and Lizz has taken her stance—if the explanation is 'the essence' she's out. In driveway dumps Kelly wonders if she needs a shower cap, is plotting a 'try not to waddle' pregnancy challenge, and has a hot take on Ballerina Farms and the life cycle of an influencer. In short, you can get an angle out of anybody. Both gals are loving the Olympics and following Ilona, a female rugby player who's giving the best behind the scenes peeks on social media. Lizz is watching men's rugby and Kelly is loving gymnastics and swimming. Both agree—water polo is some kind of superhuman feat.  Over 74% of people have subscriptions they've forgotten about. Cancel unused and unwanted subscriptions, keep your spending on track, and put money right back in your pocket with Rocket Money. With over 5 million users, Rocket Money has helped save its members an average of $720 a year with over 500 million in canceled subscriptions. So stop wasting money on things you don't use.  → Download the Rocket Money app at rocketmoney.com/carpool   On last three transactions, Lizz has a Frame TV update and made a big Little Sleepies order as well as an order for an electric fence. Kelly is nesting. She ordered Silverettes for breastfeeding relief, 200 pre-cut parchment paper (thanks Naptime Kitchen for the hack!) and snagged a couple of quality Beckham Hotel Collection Pillows for her master bedroom.  In industry news, Deadpool features Honda Odyssey and the Kia Carnival while Toyota is replacing every single engine in a hundred thousand Tundra pickups and Lexus LXs—yikes. Barbeque glazed sausage is hitting the dinner table in five minutes flat thanks to Lizz's pin-spiration. BREAKING CAR MOM MINIVAN NEWS03 Aug 202300:28:26
The Stumpe family vacation planning is in the works, and Chris (mom) is doing the most. Craig’s (dad’s) birthday agenda is full of morning coffee talk, breakfast, pilates practice, nap gaps, and a dress-up-like dad extravaganza. Follow Kelly and Lizz on Instagram for the hilarious highlights! Today’s millennial word of the day is ‘core’ which defines an aesthetic or vibe such as Barbie core, cottage core, Car Mom core, or Craig core.  Kelly will be thriving and not just surviving family vacation travel with the kids. Her last transaction was an Amazon shop for road trip activities planned out with coordinated toys that you can find on her storefront list here. Lizz is shopping at Athleta and Lulu for new shorts and tops that actually fit and hit Carters for a new pair of PJs for baby James. Kelly bought the pickle flavored Spritz for a future taste test and Lizz is in love with her new Divvy shampoo and conditioner.  We’re all just a little icky— and that’s okay. Today’s listener icks include adults calling each other mama, moms saying things like ‘I’ve got four under four’ as if it’s a contest for who has the harder life, singing happy birthday to adults (unanimously icky), and clipping your nails at work.  In industry news, the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser is returning to America smaller and resembling the 2024 Lexus GX. Elon is giving Kanye with his move to rename Twitter ‘X.’ And the Car Mom is officially driving a minivan Stop throwing away money, cancel unwanted subscriptions, and manage your expenses the easy way with Rocket Money—today’s episode sponsor. TIKTOK CONFESSION AND GIRL DINNERS01 Aug 202300:39:38
Lizz finally gets the Carpool hype, Kelly has something shocking to get off her chest, and the great eight makes a return on today’s episode.  →If you drive a BMW X3 it’s your turn to show up in The Carpool Podcast reviews. Share your ride and rating over in Apple Podcasts! Did we all not know this had a name? Today’s millennial word of the day, girl dinner, is going viral. Kelly and Lizz’s favorite no-cooking (or not-much-cooking) required dinners include tortilla’s with PB&J and salami with cream cheese and pickles. Once the Fourth of July passes, is it time for Halloween? Lizz says no way. It’s too hot to be looking at pumpkins. And Kelly chimes in about inauthentic holidays on today’s driveway dumps. Baby James has a bit of baby acne and dandruff, so Lizz has Tubby Todd’s Bye-Bye Cradle Cap on order, Kelly is loving laughing at the same mom things with Lizz, and Mattie is putting a cramp in the family photo scheduling with a black eye from rugby. Last, but certainly the most, postpartum Kelly is in LOVE with her new Ahleta Boundless shorts.  The gals are ready to crown a winner in the great eight of things you get to do when you’re not pregnant. Up for the win are: laying on your stomach, having a drink, putting on your socks and shoes, being able to hug your husband again, the post-shower towel wrap, getting down and up off the floor, not having to pee every five seconds, and fitting into your clothes again.    In industry news EVs are feeling the heat wave, losing capacity, and raising questions about the longevity of their batteries. Ford attributes price drops on their Lightning trucks to cost-of-supplies decreases, but Kelly thinks otherwise.  → Grab your Car Mom Auto Show tickets over at thecarmomofficial.com and join Kelly and Lizz September 10th for a fantastic family friendly event! Kelly and Lizz are ready to wrap up summer poolside with several family vacations in the works, a 60th birthday for dad and a kid-free 30th for Kelly.  A listener writes in with today’s millennial word of the day ‘me-coded.’ Don’t underestimate how far a little meal prep can go. Kelly shares her driveway dump that kicks off with how marinating chicken and chopping veggies while you’re already getting the kitchen dirty is absolutely genius. She’s all about making throwing dinner together a little easier and wonders what the next food-of-the-moment making a splash on the dinner scene will be. Tuna? Hard boiled eggs? The jury’s out. Meanwhile, Lizz is filling her Instagram stories with silly goose reels. If you’re not following her on IG and laughing along, what are you waiting for? Today’s episode is brought to you by Zocdoc. Send Kelly and Lizz an email to get your question featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com  In industry news the new Hyundai Santa Fé is giving Lexus GX, Land Rover, and EV vibes. Kelly isn’t ready to call it too futuristic, but the gals are a bit shocked. Lizz gives her take on the new Traverse and Kelly updates us on the new Atlas upgrades including a turbocharged 4 cylinder and ventilated seats. The gals love the luxe updates, but are not thrilled they’ve removed all buttons from the dash and steering wheel controls.  → Hey Hyundai Santa Fé drivers!! what do you think of the carpool podcast and the new Santa Fé features? Sound off in the Carpool Podcast reviews on Apple Podcasts! Kelly and Lizz had to draw the line somewhere and they drew it at stilt-walkers. THE GENIUS OF THE BIKE SHORT MOM FIT 25 Jul 202300:50:40
Barbie might be making headlines but today’s episode is hosted by Brats girlie Kelly and the show’s first non-husband guest co-host, Polly Pocket girlie Ashley. This duo has been transacting, wardrobe purging, making the most of mom life — and they’re ready to share all. Attention Buick SUV mamas! Sound off in your Carpool Podcast reviews this week and let us know what you loved about today’s co-host while you’re there! Ashley brings today’s millennial word of the day from her social scrolling: feminine era. This is when you’re in an LTR and have someone to help you do the heavy lifting. Ashley has been putting together the most darling mom-fits over on @realactuallyashley and Kelly is a stan. Biker shorts and a dress? Say less. The gals rave about buying the proper size clothes to create more comfort and grabbing a girlfriend to clean your closets out together.  Gym, shower, makeup, ‘get ready with me’ on IG stories, hair, and outfit kick off most of Ashley’s days, but even as a makeup artist, she isn’t judging anyone who doesn’t put a full face of makeup on every morning. She’s simply here to champion every woman doing what she needs to have a better day and wholeheartedly believes you should let your clothes make your body look better instead of making your body look better to fit into your clothes. In today’s last three transactions segment, Ashley reveals she took the leap and bought her kids tablets she may have to save until Christmas, grabbed makeup erasers and Bento Boxes on prime day, and made a grocery order for her ‘cut.’ Kelly hit Athleta’s semi-annual sale, ordered an ugly t-shirt for her family’s vacation secret santa, and made a Costco haul complete with dinners for Lizz.  BBQ chicken without the grill is today’s ditch the drive-through. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! Today the most educated of the Suntrup clan, Sydney, joins Kelly and Lizz for a jam packed episode now that she has her life back from rowing.  Straight from the Gen Z source, today’s millennial phrase of the day is, “Double it and give it to the next person,” inspired by a viral TikTok trend. Sydney also shares her last three emojis — heart hands, a farmer, and (thanks to The Bear show) a chef. Guilty pleasures dominate today’s driveway dump. BABY JAMES HAS ENTERED THE CHAT 11 Jul 202300:34:33
Kelly and Lizz are back on the mic with babes in tow and on the teet. Get ready for Lizz’s birth story, a newborn report, and an update on how the mom ‘Carpool’ is going for the St. Johns.  CALLING ALL JAMES MAMAS: Kelly and Lizz are mixing it up! If you have a baby named James show up in the Carpool Podcast reviews and give your babe a shout out. Lizz’s labor started out subtle, but had her panicking in a hurry—about her messy house of course. At a routine weekly appointment she found out she was already dilating, but wasn’t having a stitch of contractions. The nurses were frankly no help in figuring out what was a big deal and how quickly to expect things to progress. Kelly votes for better delivery and a bit more sensitivity from the medical pros. Mattie was at work, so Mama Stoupe stepped in to keep Lizz company and later hosted the expecting couple for the night closer to the hospital.  Lizz started having contractions throughout the next day while Mattie was at work and as they intensified they decided to head to the hospital. Spoiler alert: back labor ahead! Lizz opted for the epidural and pitocin and was cheered on by a birth team who said she’d have a quick 45 minutes of pushing before she met her baby. Not so! She finally made progress through back labor, epidural adjustments, and a variety of birthing positions, giving birth to baby James after 4 hours of pushing!  Baby James was born 7lb 130z, 22 inches long, and is absolutely perfect.  Stop throwing away money, cancel unwanted subscriptions, and manage your expenses the easy way with Rocket Money—today’s episode sponsor. Her top two newborn baby products are the Copper Pearl Baby Gowns and Newton Bassinet.  The first thing moms need postpartum is a ton of breastfeeding bras. Kelly and Lizz are both obsessed with The Bodily Everything Bra. And to keep the milk flowing, Lizz is grabbing her Stanley 64oz. → Shopping Stanley? Use the code CARMOM20 when you checkout! THIRD AUTO SHOW, BEST AUTO SHOW25 Jul 202400:55:55
Being a mom is a kick you while you're down kind of industry and if it throws you into your ugly era, getting out just isn't free. On this episode of the Carpool podcast Kelly and Lizz share their recent relatable mom experiences and a review of the third annual Car Mom Auto Show.  The gals extend a huge thank you to everyone who made the drive and flew during the Microsoft outages. The third Auto Show was truly the best and Kelly and Lizz loved meeting their fans—from moms to young listeners. The VIP night vibes were on point, the extended hours were awesome, and Capital One's giant car seat was a hit.  Kelly deems the Belle of the Ball and most talked about car the BMW X7 or Kia Carnival. For the next show, Kelly will be hiring staff — a need she underestimated this time— and more carefully curating the kid's movie characters that attend. Kelly escaped her ugly era with a new lipstick duo from Ulta while Lizz feels like she needed a full montage movie makeover to get out of her funk for a few days.  If you're tired of playing a bad game of Mad Gab to find doctors that accept your insurance, check out Zocdoc. You'll never need to settle or struggle while looking for a doctor again. On Zocdoc, you can find and book tens of thousands of top tier doctors all with verified patient reviews. Search and compare highly rated in-network doctors near you and instantly book appointments with them online from the Zocdoc app. → Visit zocdoc.com/carpool and download the Zocdoc app for free.  A Mom of one driving a (paid for) 2018 Toyota Four Runner is feeling the pressure to drive a bigger car when her second kiddo arrives. Kelly re-shares her Mom-Car hot take: the car you have is the best mom car when you're just starting a family. Any car fits two kids and unless you have other unique needs you probably don't need to go car shopping yet.  In industry news, the new Honda Odyssey is incredibly underwhelming and Kelly is ready to see a hybrid option. Both gals are on the edge of their seats for the '25 Expedition. Kelly's sassy pasta is today's ditch the drive-through. Grab a little olive oil, Boursin cheese, and cream if you have it and treat the cheese like the 'butter' on your noodles. Kelly added sweet potatoes, peas, and rotisseries chicken to her dish and served plain (actually) buttered noodles with peas and meatballs on the side to her kiddos.  → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Write in your advice questions! WRONG SHOE THEORY 13 Jun 202300:40:32
George is officially The Car Kid, Kelly just wants to be athleisure comfy, and Lizz has another baby name clue to drop! A Gen Z trend takes over today’s Millennial word of the day, the ‘wrong shoe theory.’ Stretch your imagination and boundaries this summer with Gladiators and Adidas Sambas that don’t make sense. And if people don’t get it—that’s their problem.  Mo News headlines Kelly’s driveway dump with a report on the most popular and rarest birthdays. She also shares her laundry-by-location hack and day-delegation strategy that is saving her sanity.  Today’s all-episode-long taste drive is the new Starburst-style ‘blow pops.’ Can Lizz finish hers before the end of the episode to report back? Lizz brings a couple of loaded car questions from listeners for The Car Mom. One mom with two rear-facing kiddos is looking to upgrade from a Honda Pilot to a Honda Odyssey and wonders if she should shop new, used, or wait and another writes in to hear what Kelly thinks about the Kia Sorento hybrid. Apple’s WWDC ‘23 brings a lackluster Apple Carplay Update that is barely worth mentioning on today’s industry news. And Kelly would like to know why electric car names are so bad? Honda is unhinged and their competitors aren’t far behind.  → Do you drive a moronically named EV? Then it’s your turn to drop a five star review for the podcast! Let Kelly and Lizz know if you love your car and its name when you do! Ditch the drive-through features one of Lizz’s favorite summer meals that listener Hannah wrote in to share, Pasta Con Broccoli.  → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Write to us for advice on all things motherhood, life, and more! ASKING THE PRESIDENT OF NASCAR FOR AN ICED COFFEE08 Jun 202300:45:27
Late night nursing scrolls will ruin your bank account — according to Kelly — and Lizz should be prepared. The mama-to-be shares about her postpartum nerves and countdown to baby to kick off today’s episode.  → Review shout out! If you or your husband are a GMC Sierra driver, sound off in the Apple Podcast reviews. The gals will be looking for you! For the first time, Kelly absolutely nails the millennial word of the day, “sending me.”  Kelly can’t believe she’s sharing the most embarrassing NASCAR story ever on today’s driveway dumps. Her Suite Life of Zack and Cody experience did not disappoint and the NASCAR race was a top ten family friendly day where she also met comedian and influencer Jalen Hinton. Reel talk with Lizz gives a shout out to the hilarious Entitled Housewife. Shout out to listener Sarah for the most iconic great eight theme, millennial school dance songs. The songs on Kelly and Lizz’s unhinged playlist for the great eight are: Get Low, Soldier Boy, Hot in Here, Hollaback Girl, Laffy Taffy, My Humps, Don’t Stop Believing, and Temperature.  Lizz gets her favorite advice question ever on today’s advice segment where she and Kelly get to pick car-related baby names for a listener. In case you were wondering too, here’s where you can find those Nuuds pajamas and no, Kelly doesn’t have a code for Pura yet, but she’s working on it! And last, Kelly shares how she would keep kids cool in the back of a 2013 CRV with the Noggle, an after-market remote start, and The Little Bum Cooler.  → Write to us for advice on all things motherhood, life, and more! Send us an email to get your question featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com  Most Americans think they’re spending about $80 a month on subscriptions. This electric microbus is said to have 250 miles of drive and is available in all wheel drive. Will this niche trend automobile become iconic or flop? THAT FEELING WHEN THE BUSY TODDLER COMES ON THE CARPOOL PODCAST06 Jun 202301:00:07
If you’re raising little gen Alphas, you won’t want to miss this star-studded episode with Suzie from Busy Toddler — the chef of toddler activities.  → You can find the Busy Toddler home preschool program with a full year of lesson plans for just $40 — far less than the cost of preschool for a year — here.  Expand your vocabulary with today’s millennial abbreviation of the day, TFW. This Gen Z slang means ‘that feeling when.’  Kelly and Lizz dive into Suzie’s journey from Daniel Tiger marathons to simple, low-cost activities her toddler could do on his own while she sipped her coffee. Suzie shares her hindsight parenting wisdom and a ‘take a breath and say yes moment’ that has the gals asking, “Will Busy Toddler’s next frontier be sleeping boxes for kids?” The gals reminisce about the good old days of chronological social media feeds and their Tik Tok aversions.  → REVIEW SHOUTOUT: Hey, Yukon drivers! whether your doors work or don’t work (like Suzie’s) Kelly and Lizz would love to hear from you. Sound off in the Apple Podcasts reviews and remember to share about your ride when you do! The great eight of Busy Toddler brings a shocking winner that Lizz just doesn’t get — yet. Featured in today’s segment are popsicle baths, painting toys, washing toys, the cutting bin, color baths, toy parades, toy rescue, and the baking soda bin (aka stinky bubbles).  Today’s episode is sponsored by Rocket Money, formerly known as Truebill. This personal finance app finds and cancels unwanted subscriptions, monitors spending, and helps you lower your bills—all in one, easy-to-use place. Going into 2023, if one of your goals is to save money or become more financially savvy, check out Rocket Money. → Download the Rocket Money app at rocketmoney.com/carpool   Suzie’s last three transactions brings the super cute Boden swimsuits into Kelly and Lizz’s world and includes an upgrade to her camera equipment as well as a dad joke book for her kids to celebrate their dad on father’s day.  Industry news inspires questions about Toyota’s plan for the Grand Highlander to take over more of the Toyota market. But Kelly wonders if this is a ‘17 varieties of Hidden Valley Ranch’ situation. Also in headlines this week is the world’s best selling car from Q1…and its boring runner up. Lizz is still just a mom poser, but not for long — it’s BABY MONTH! So prepare the pool and margaritas for the new mama being ‘born’ soon! → Palisade girlies, Kelly and Lizz know you’re out there! It’s your turn to sound off in the reviews. Head over to Apple Podcasts and tell them what you think of the show and remember to shout out your ride. Today’s millennial word of the day, the ick, can be summarized by how repulsed Kelly is by seeing husbands in Christmas pajamas. Making a smooth segue into Kelly and Lizz’s driveway dumps, you can get your belly laugh and a half for the day, with a side of ick, watching Camp Rock clips. Kelly recommends tuning into the top ten cringiest Camp Rock moments. The gals discuss the difference between achievement entrepreneurs and lifestyle entrepreneurs, how it might be easier to make money than it is to save it, and Lizz recaps her baby class with Mattie.  Memorial day sales were giving Black Friday, and Kelly and Lizz’s last three transactions are here to prove it. Kelly snagged her favorite Bath and Body Works candles on super sale and didn’t let her sisters know—yikes! She’s also stocked up on Prodoh kids for George and is getting ready for reels with new filming studio lights. Lizz is preparing for postpartum with a Athleta/Gap haul, Free People Hot Shot Onesie, and a Nintendo Switch to enjoy Mario with Mattie on maternity leave.  Today’s episode is brought to you by Zocdoc. DELIA'S VS. HOT TOPIC VS. VICTORIA'S SECRET30 May 202300:46:59
Bored? Mom doesn’t care. In fact, Kelly and Lizz are huge fans of driving in silence and suggest you do the same—after catching up on the Carpool podcast of course.  In honor of how dating can be so gross, today’s millennial word of the day is ‘beige flag.’ This is when someone hasn’t put much effort into their dating profile.  → ATTENTION Nissan Sedan drivers! It's your week to head over to the Carpool podcast and drop Kelly and Lizz a five star review. Let them know what you’re driving so they know you came from this episode! The Athleta romper is the find of the century, but Tyler — the man who cuts his cowboy boots — has opinions about it.  Lizz brings us a mom-car update and Kelly remembers the anxiety of new mom driving on today’s driveway dumps. Kelly also puts in her vote for a two-horn car feature so we can all be a little friendlier on the road and Lizz plugs a little reminder that June 22nd will be her last episode pre-baby! If you ever thought you might get discovered as a model at the mall, today’s great eight is for you. Two mall girlies remember their days of little pink bags and feeling ‘unhinged’ in Hot Topic and are picking their favorite store from the early 00s from an iconic lineup of Delias, Hot Topic, Abercrombie, Hollister, Claire’s, Charlotte Russe, Papaya, and Victoria’s Secret.  Kelly’s spilling the tea on the Cadillac Escalade IQ — the EV version of their deluxe SUV— on today’s industry news. The IAHS reports on a possible solution to impaired driving. What kind of regulatory requirements will it take to get drunk drivers off the road?  On today’s ditch the drive-through, Lauren is bringing her deconstructed chicken parm to the pod to get you out of your dinner rut. If you drive a Honda CRV, it’s your turn to drop into the reviews and shout out your ride while you’re there! Kelly and Lizz are anti-fluff, yet always giving fluff. On today’s driveway dump, Kelly’s been sleeping on Spindrift — the sparkling drink with a touch of juice. She asks AI to write a bio for her and finds out it’s just an Ask Jeeves renaissance gone wrong. Lizz gives a harrowing review of the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 movie, aka it should have never been made. Featured in today’s taste drive are the Target brand birthday cake and chocolate mint balls. You can thank Kelly and Lizz for saving you from eating playdough on this one. ‘Jen’ writes in for advice on how to respond to being called ‘young lady’ in a male-dominated industry. MOTHERS DAY VIBES WITH OUR MOM11 May 202300:42:34
Kelly and Lizz are bringing you the scoop on how to have a great Mother’s Day in this episode co-starring their mom, Kris.  → Sound off in the reviews Chevy Traverse moms, Kris has called you out! Today’s millennial word of the day is “bang thirties” a clap back meaning to fight someone. Chris shares her favorite Gen Z slang “fosh” and shares who was harder to mother — Gen Z or her millennial kids.  Until Kelly can organize her texts and respond to them like emails, talking trumps texting. Consider this her PSA coming from the driveway dump that friends should stop texting and start calling #textingcultureistoxic. Kris shares how she learned frugal shopping, how to make holidays special from her mom, and reminds us of the ever-present love of moms who are no longer with us.  Which Mother’s Day gift hits the hardest? Kelly, Lizz and Kris are ready to decide on today’s great eight of Mother’s Day gifts that includes: car detailing, handmade crafts, breakfast in bed, flowers, taking mom out to dinner, a spa day, jewelry, and mom time off.  More goodies from Chris on this episode include: Which kid calls mom the most? What’s dad’s responsibility on Mother’s Day, and a story of her favorite Mother’s Day ever. Kelly’s got hot tea on industry news this week. She wonders if insurance companies will keep covering Rivians after an Rivian R1T fender bender turns into a $40K repair bill and updates us on the Ford and GM drama over Apple CarPlay and in-car infotainment systems. For Mother’s Day, ditch the drive-through, the restaurants, and the recipe cards with Kris’ favorite Sunday meal recipe: marinated flank steak with cheesy twice baked potatoes inside a bell pepper. This meal can be prepped ahead so you can stay a part of the party instead of getting stuck in the kitchen. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Write to us for advice on all things motherhood, life, and more! WE ATE THE GREAT EIGHT 02 May 202300:49:27
We all ate green ketchup and survived! But that’s not the kind of ‘ate’ that Gen Zers are talking about. Today’s Millennial word of the day ‘ate’ refers to a performance or outfit that was done extremely well.   Lizz takes the fastest showers in the world, inhales her food, and jumps out of the car when she gets home while Kelly is stopping to smell the roses — both on her walks and in that blissful moment in the driveway when you put your car in park but haven’t gotten out yet. Enter…the perfect time for her driveway dumping.  Kelly and Lizz are on a health journey, working out, reading labels, and buying the dirty dozen organic. They agree that 1% better is the goal. PB&Js still smack, Wendy’s on Facebook is unhinged, and Lizz reveals her biggest tech pet peeve. The gals also debate: Are way-too-high ceilings the reason Bed, Bath, and Beyond is going under? The great eight of ditch the drive-throughs features chicken stroganoff, salmon teriyaki bowl, lunch meat crescent roll-ups, buffalo chicken sweet potatoes, hamburger sliders, chicken salad, the Mississippi roast, and BBQ pulled pork nachos. Lizz needs to spice up her life while trolls are trying to dull Kelly’s sparkle. Tune in to hear all of your Carpool favorites today including a juicy listener question on the advice segment. NPC is today’s millennial word of the day. This sassy abbreviation means ‘non-player character’ as in the opposite of main character energy, someone who adds nothing to the story.  Kelly’s driveway dump kicks off with a powerful parenting strategy: The Kid of the Day! Kelly and Lizz reminisce about how this changed their childhood for the better and how they’ll implement it in their own families. Kelly is ready to bring back the tomato tomat-oh sentiment after receiving hate comments for her word pronunciations. Two inch hail did some serious damage to Kelly’s neighborhood. And she will be returning the heinous low rise jeans she ordered from Express — to replace them with a pair of Good American ‘Always Fits.’  Would you say anything? A listener writes in asking about her brother in law who is always critiquing his girlfriend’s food choices and image — often loudly in front of family. He’s been with this girl for four years and she’s still waiting for a ring. Should she say anything to the girlfriend about her unhealthy relationship dynamics? Another question in the advice que today deals with the ‘after’ of the resqme® safety tool. Where can you get a seat belt replaced after using the tool? Kelly and Lizz have answers. → Write to us for advice on all things motherhood, life, and more! Send us an email to get your question featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com  In industry news, the Lexus LM luxury minivan will not be debuting in the US but you can still get your fix of minivan excitement by staying tuned for The Minivan Showdown from The Car Mom. Kelly shares a snippet of her Honda Odyssey review from her upcoming, and absolutely epic guide.  Cucumber nachos with chicken salad and tajín are on the ditch the drive-through menu this week. Kelly also throws in her broccoli chicken casserole for good measure and the gals talk recipe organization and making meal planning simple. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message!  ATTENTION SUBARU ASCENT DRIVERS…it’s your day to leave a five-star review of the podcast ;) Kelly and Lizz would so appreciate it.  Today’s episode is brought to you by Zocdoc. GOING FROM MISS TO MA'AM20 Apr 202300:59:35
Forget the kitchen. Start your weekend with a carwash! Buy that subscription. And ask for a pro detail service for Mother’s Day. Per Kelly and Lizz — yet again —clean cars drive better. Period. The first week of May brings another big boost to your clean car life with the anticipated re-release of the new Car Mom Car Cleaner. Scents will include the back-by-popular-demand Lavender and Sweet Orange, Grapefruit and Rosemary, and a secret third that’s Lizz’s favorite of the bunch.  Today’s millennial word of the day, Zillennial, indicates the group born from 1988 to 1992 who can relate to both the Gen Zers and Millennials.  Kelly kicks off the last three transactions segment with her Pure car air freshener purchase. Lizz has been doing her maternity and postpartum summer shopping on Amazon and at Target. She’s also getting ready for her baby’s arrival with the “Taking Care of Babies” course. Kelly is making a big transition, too, and purchased Frozen pull-ups to start potty training with Hattie.  Kelly and Lizz’s dumps and feral freeways are a mishmash of Marvel coleslaw, marriage thoughts, and what it feels like to become ma’am while you’re pregnant. The gals also chat about influencer crowd-sourcing privilege and a live broadcast that totally flopped for Netflix.  Are Zoom and TikTok in cars safe? Kelly and Lizz share their thoughts in industry news and hype the arrival of the off-roading edition of the Atlas, the Atlas Peak, for its rugged features and avocado green color. Listeners are looking for advice on how to jazz up veggies beyond the broccoli, how to grow a home decor box subscription through influencers, and when an expectant mom should start shopping for a new midsize SUV. → Write to us for advice on all things motherhood, life, and more! THE ULTIMATE GREAT EIGHT?18 Apr 202300:48:02
IS LEMON8 THE NEW INSTAGRAM? 13 Apr 202300:47:38
It’s a second Easter and bar-dog-park weekend ahead for Kelly and Lizz. Kelly can barely contain her excitement for the most quakeworthy industry news she’s had to share in a while, though — so let’s dive right in. Today’s millennial word of the day is ‘based.’ Based is a response that shows agreement…and the gals aren’t so sure how they feel about this one. Kelly discovered the Walgreens photo app and shares all about it in her driveway dump. Her newest show obsession is The Chosen, Lemon8 is coming out of the woodworks to become the real new social media trend, and Kelly is posting tours on YouTube again. It’s been a few episodes since Naptime Kitchen made an appearance and Kelly is all about her philosophy to not rush activities with your kids — because what’s the point anyway? Reel talk with Lizz today brings you an interesting experiment done on the effects of hormonal birth control on pheromone detection.  Continuing on the Tajín trend, today’s taste drive is watermelon, mango, and pineapple all sprinkled with Tajín. Which fruits are a match made in heaven and which ones are better off Tajíin-less…listen in to find out Kelly and Lizz’s vote.  Madison, a full time working and studying mom to a two year old, writes in to ask about handling mom guilt on today’s advice segment. Kelly gives this incredible mama some credit and grace and Lizz drops a deep line of wisdom for this mama, “Life is short and life moves fast. But life is also the longest thing you'll ever do.” In industry news, Domino’s Pizza has teamed up with Apple CarPlay to ditch the drive-through line — very Carpool appropriate. The CX 90 badging comes out light and Mazda says it meant to exercise restraint, but Kelly and Lizz doubt that this was really necessary. The Highlander goes head to head with the Grand Highlander and Kelly reports differences in their size, pricing, and more. To round out industry news, Lizz guesses which automobiles made it to the top of the 25 best selling cars, trucks, and SUVs so far this year list. Ditch the drive-through this week with Jean Marie’s chickpea salad on the side of your baked burger sliders from listener Kimberly.  Today’s episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens. Nothing makes the gals feel like they’re in their Healthy Girl Era quite like taking Athletic Greens in the morning. With just one scoop, you too can improve your gut health and overall energy with 75 high-quality vitamins, minerals, whole foods, and probiotics daily. MOTHER OF CAR REVIEWS11 Apr 202300:39:44
Candy controversy kicks off The Carpool Podcast with Reese Eggs vs Cadbury Cream Eggs, candies that are begging to be retired, and the Peeps red dye 3 controversy. The suitcase zipped, but barely, on this *packed* episode.  Mother is today’s millennial word of the day. Used as an adjective by Gen Z, Kelly will just have to live with it and love it.  Which ugly auto will win today’s hate eight of ugliest cars? Up for the title are the Ford Flex, Nissan Murano convertible, Nissan Cube, classic Toyota Prius, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Honda Odyssey, Kia Soul, and Tesla cyber truck. The Ford Flex is giving fridge, at least the Honda Odyssey is functional, and the Nissan Cube holds a special place in Lizz’s heart.  Stanley ice flows are (or were!) back in stock, so they’re on both Kelly and Lizz’s last three transactions today. Use the code CARMOM20 to grab yours if they’re still available. The PT Cruiser of shoes threatened to set Kelly back $80 for spring daycare shoes, but she found knock off Crocs at TJ Maxx instead. Lizz grabbed some jammies for the babe and both gals had a grocery run — Kelly’s for her pot-luck famous Costco mac-n-cheese.  On today’s advice segment, Dana asks for go-to dinner ideas for guests. Kelly recommends BBQ pulled pork nachos with Sweet Baby Rays, a hot dog bar, or grilled naan bread pizzas. Lizz suggests crockpot chicken tacos. Listener Elizabeth asks how Kelly knew she wanted a third kiddo.  A listener’s Honda Odyssey question spills over into industry news. Making headlines this week, Tesla workers shared very personal customer videos taken by Century mode without consent. Kia EV 9 is one of the hottest EVs of the year and one of the first mainstream three row electric SUVs. And Kelly and Lizz talk auto shows and their yearning to travel again. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Want our advice on literally anything? OUR TAYLOR SWIFT NAIVETY06 Apr 202300:41:51
Is it too late for Kelly and Lizz to become Swifties? Can car payments get any higher? Is everything a dupe? The gals answer all of this and more on today’s episode of The Carpool Podcast. Today’s millennial word of the day is ‘dupe.’ As in, Kelly is back from a brutal stomach bug — vacation dupe!  Palm payments through Amazon and at Panera kick off Kelly's driveway dump with a rant. Kelly asks moms to consider not forcing play date visitors to clean up at your house — give the other mama a break instead. Lizz gets called out on her voicemail message that needs an update, stat, and she admits the most feral thing she’s doing this pregnancy. An update on Kelly’s Thrive Market experience reveals she is in love with some of their brands. To wrap up the driveway dump, Kelly and Lizz cheer on the TikTok ban and feel left out of the Taylor Swift Eras tour trends. In industry news, GM is phasing out CarPlay in EVs with Google’s help, Ford collabs with Syndey Sweeney to empower Gen Z with basic car maintenance lessons, and depressing stats about finance payments are brought to you by Car and Driver. Liz from @thefeedingacademy brings us today’s ditch the drive-through: Trader Joe’s chicken meatballs with tikka masala simmer sauce over rice with a side of green beans. BOOKED AND BLESSED AND REBRANDED16 Jul 202400:50:26
Kelly is spilling the story of going from mommy blogger to mature brand that stands up next to brands like Car and Driver with the new The Car Mom Logo (that made her cry). The moral of the story—if you don't want anyone's feedback, don't put it out there until it's official. Kelly can't spell her baby name yet, but she's loving the nickname that starts with a different letter than the name itself. And this isn't the first time she's played the naming game, she also helped Lizz get her edge with a little spelling tweak.  Today's driveway dumps are full to the brim with parenting perspectives and married date night hacks. Kelly learned the hard way this weekend to set low expectations when you're planning something fun for one of your kids. Drop the news close to the event, undersell the event, and pack a diaper bag. The reality of being a mom of two is setting in for Lizz. Kelly's best advice? Get on your snack game. And the gals agree—parenting personalities aren't right or wrong, parenting 'experts' should have some real experience under their belt, and everyone should be more aware of who they're taking recommendations from online.  There's nothing that will come between you and your husband like a week with your kids or a crazy busy schedule—like this week getting ready for The Car Mom Auto Show. Kelly shares the progressive date night she planned for the week after as well as a listener-submitted hack for when you have an event to attend with your spouse. WELCOME HOME, MATTY!04 Apr 202300:44:22
Mattie St. John is BACK from overseas and stars as the Carpool special guest today with host, Lizz St. John. The duo is giving Kelly a break with a sweet Q&A and crunch-tastic taste drive.  The millennial word of the day is ‘spilling the tea’ aka Mattie’s favorite. Is there anything better than hot goss to dish? No, it’s definitely the highlight of any day, week, or month according to Mattie.  Maddie Q&A from the Carpool listeners on Instagram ask: What’s Mattie’s given name and who calls him what? How was it seeing Lizz with a bump for the first time? What is Mattie’s military lineage? What Mattie is looking forward to about being a dad? What Mattie is relying on Lizz for when it comes to parenting? How and when did he know Lizz was the one? And did this deployment feel different? Lizz’s Feral Freeway brings you a fierce internet debate that Lizz and Mattie both agree on. The question is: are top sheets the greatest millennial take-down or a necessity? Listen in to find out. Lizz has pregnancy giggle stories, Mattie has a tech tip, and both have an Instagram comedy couple recommendation: @alexandramadisonn and @jon.bouff. The Fruit Roll-Up ice cream challenge is today’s taste drive. Lizz and Mattie try vanilla ice cream in a Fruit Roll-Up and mango ice cream with Tajín rolled up as well. Would they do it again?  Listener Ashley brings us today’s ditch the drive-through, BBQ chicken baked potato. And Mattie comes in with a baby name clue for a strong wrap to the episode.  → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! FRUIT FIGHT WITH KELSEY FROM LITTLE BITS OF REAL FOOD28 Mar 202300:58:21
Welcome to the Carpool podcast Kelsey Preciado @littlebitsof_realfood! Kelly is sleep deprived and delirious, but that won’t stop this jam packed show. Listen in for a heated great eight, drool-worthy ditch the drive-through, and the best advice Kelly and Lizz have ever given. Today’s guest, Kelsey @littlebitsof_realfood, started her food blog in 2012, evolved into Whole 30 recipes at the height of pinterest popularity, and has now mastered the art of being fantastically ordinary and relatable. She shares the one food she’ll never master in the kitchen, what she drives and what she loves about it, and what her family begs her to cook again and again.  Kelly, Lizz, and Kelsey debate the great eight of fruits. Between peaches, watermelons, bananas, strawberries, pineapples, clementines, apples, and grapes — which one will wear the hard-earned crown?  Dino nuggies and salad are, admittedly, Kelsey’s go-to ditch the drive-through. But, if she has a little energy left at the end of the day, she’ll definitely be making her One Pot Chicken Bacon Ranch Rice. To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! A SAHM listener writes in for advice about conversation at a dinner party. Is it rude for someone to ask you not to talk about your kids? And what should you say instead? TRYING TO DO THE MOST WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY DOING THE LEAST23 Mar 202300:50:00
Kelly and Lizz are dishing advice on some spicy drama in this jam packed episode! Kelly is devoting her focus to evening routine prep and a much more pregnant Lizz is getting ready to welcome Mattie back home soon.  Today’s millennial word of the day is a quick fire quiz of popular Gen Z abbreviations: tbh, smh, pov, fr, rt, rn, tfw, and imo.  Kelly has a throwback-filled driveway dump since no one voted it off segment island (just kidding none of the Carpool segments are going anywhere). First, Kelly and Lizz share highlights of their childhood Easter. Then, the gals reminisce about mall stores and brands they used to love and where they are now. Reel talk with Lizz brings healthy home inspiration with a DIY all-purpose cleaner recipe and a few low-lift wellness tips. The gals agree that ice water facials are going to be the way to go — because you won’t catch either of them plunging in for a cold swim. Every day is a gift worth more than $10M and Lizz has a bit of a ‘would you rather’ to prove it. Lizz is getting ready for a John Mayer concert with tan converse to kick off the last three transactions segment. She also bought Jordan Harper’s Barefaced tinted and sheer sunscreen and a bird feeder. Kelly re-upped her Apple TV subscription, ordered play makeup for Hattie, and took a risk on a denim jumpsuit. Are Kelly and Lizz even qualified to respond on today’s listener advice segment? Someone’s very best friend of 20 years is cheating on her husband. What should she do with her friend’s secret? Can they remain friends? The gals weigh in. Another listener asks if her Volkswagen Jetta sedan can be good mom car with kids as she starts to grow her family.  Want our advice on literally anything? Shoot us an email for a chance to get your questions featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com The Mississippi government has recently put restrictions on selling EVs, which is great industry news. Of course Kelly and Lizz are on team local, family-owned dealerships and are glad to see them protected and appreciated with these new restrictions. Mercedes-Benz biometric payments are on their way — is this a good thing or another scary subscription slippery slope? And the Dodge Durango 710 Hellcat is coming back. Prior owners of the vehicle aren’t pleased. Listen in to find out why.  Ditch the drive-through today with The College Nutritionist’s cajun mac and cheese. YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ASSUME ...21 Mar 202300:53:54
Fred is at daycare, Kelly is way too focused, and Lizz is having her most pregnant experience ever — insomnia and middle of the night cereal with a side of Netflix’s “How to Get Away with Murder.”  Today’s millennial word of the day is making its debut in the 3D world thanks to Gen Z: the side-eye. Once just an emoji, side-eye is now a phrase you can use whenever you’re judging or questioning the content of what someone is saying.  Kelly’s driveway dump is jam packed. A new celebrity pregnancy announcement from Lindsay Lohan is as normal as can be and Lizz and Kelly are here for her mommy-blogger comeback. Instagram releases the new verified badge subscription and Lizz will be giving it a try. Kelly warns everyone to take out their claw clips while driving — and slaps a trigger warning on this story. Over the weekend Kelly and the kids will be headed to the hotel Tyler’s parents are staying at for indoor pool access — what a great staycation idea. And last but certainly not least, Kelly is obsessed with Spanx clothes and how they’re changing her postpartum body experience.  After giving her address to the Wonderful company for some spiced pistachios — which are today’s taste drive, Kelly seems to be on a weird PR list that’s sending her cases of juice and clementines. The Wonderful de-shelled pistachio flavors the gals tried out today are: roasted, salted sea salt vinegar, honey roasted, chili roasted, and smokey barbecue. Lizz polled Carpool listeners for assumptions they have about Kelly and Lizz and is ready to confirm or deny the most common ones. Topping the list is that Kelly and Lizz were popular girls in high school. The gals also address: whether they’re super close and have always been friends or are always competing, that they never cuss, that they grew up privileged but were raised to be down to earth, and if Lizz gets upset at Kelly more often Kelly gets upset with Lizz. In industry news, Kia released the new EV9 with 2200 miles of range, six or seven passenger capacity with swivel seats, and a price tag in the range of 56K-73K. Will the EV9 satisfy the growing demand for electric cars that don’t look silly? Kelly also shares her take on the new IIHS side crash testing of 13 mid-size SUVs. How much sway will these unimpressive results have in her car buying recommendations? Listen in to find out! To wrap up the episode today, listener Jackie writes in with her ditch the drive-through ideas. Kelly and Lizz are both obsessed with her take on burgers as bowls. $1.25 FOR A SLICE OF CHEESE?16 Mar 202300:40:10
Kelly and Lizz are back with riveting stories from their wildly interesting lives including a towel closet cleaning hack from Kelly and a nursery set up update from Lizz.  CEO is today’s millennial word of the day. Gen Zers might say Kelly and Lizz are the CEOs of automotive podcasts.  Kelly’s driveway dump is full of influencers and inspiration. She recently purchased a new cookbook by listener Little Bits of Real Food called Unbelieve-a-Bowl and she’s never wanted to cook so many recipes from one book. Toasted Table is bringing simple and delicious food inspo to Kelly’s kitchen, too, with her daily toast posts. Kelly has also found a couple of solid reasons to shop for her spring wardrobe: Kathleen Post’s iconic capsule wardrobe share and Merrick White’s four-ways-to-wear content.  Lizz’s purchase of two Pink Blush maternity dresses for her baby shower kick of the last three transactions segment. Kelly is sprucing up her home, even if they might move, with a new entryway light fixture, is all about the Abercrombie dad shorts, and has mixed reviews on Thrive Market. Lizz is ordering another puppy bumper and raising awareness about this brilliant product for little dogs. Today’s taste drive is the Jimmy John’s Capresé Salami Pesto 16 inch sandwich. Between the balsamic vinaigrette and pesto this sandwich doesn’t even need the (FANTASTIC) Kickin’ Ranch to be crave-worthy.  In industry news, General Motors will stop forcing $1500 OnStar subscriptions on their Buick, GM, and GMC buyers. Kelly says way to go — there’s no benefit other than more money for the manufacturers in these subscriptions. Kelly and Lizz are both excited to hear about VW’s Scout brand building EV pickups and SUVs in the US with production starting in 2026. Listener Megan brings us a ditch the drive-through that is perfect for when you’re craving something light and fresh — like Chipotle. Perfect for spring, this Greek chicken bowl is sure to please with jasmine rice, tzatziki dip, chicken, cucumber, roma tomatoes, and fresh slices of lemon for a tangy squeeze. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! A GREEN BEAN IS A GREEN BEAN AT THE END OF THE DAY14 Mar 202300:48:35
Will Kelly and Lizz get slap happy or go south in this jam packed witching hour episode? To kick the show off, Kelly’s getting comfortable with mom guilt as George starts daycare and Lizz is admiring her third-time-mom vibe as she awaits baby St. John. Today’s millennial word of the day is an answer to a question from the last episode: What are teens doing now — because they’re not at the mall?! Cara, a listener with a 16 and 18 year old, writes in about her teen’s hang-out habits at Target, Chick-fil-a, and Crumbl cookies. Reel talk with Lizz includes a question about new and expectant mothers parking spots and great anticipation of the Sunny D seltzer, which Kelly is disgusted by.  On Kelly’s driveway dump, there’s new hair in the house as well as a cooler full of new pet minnows. Both gals share how they’re working more veggies into their diet even when they don’t feel like it. The perfect segue to today’s great eight of vegetables.  Vying for the vegetable crown today are broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, bell peppers, cucumber, asparagus, green beans, and brussel sprouts. Are Kelly and Lizz crazy? Is the winner really a fruit? Let Kelly and Lizz know on Instagram! Paige writes in for advice on thank you notes. Are they out of date and ready to be retired? Kelly and Lizz have very different opinions on the matter. Another listener writes in for a friend who has a four year old and identical twins on the way. Kelly recommends the Ford Expedition as an upgrade from the Lexus SUV she’s currently driving. Want our advice on literally anything? AUNTIE ANNE'S HIT DIFFERENT09 Mar 202300:53:16
Kelly has a confession about her bad habit of reading influencer reddit threads full of mom snark, Fred has opinions, and Lizz shares about her latest drama indulgences on her finally named ‘Real Talk With Lizz” segment today.  Kelly comes through with a millennial word of the day — hits different — and teaches Lizz the idiom “comparing apples to oranges.” Two former mall kids put their food court favorites to the test on today’s great eight. The restaurants going head to head for the win today are, Panda Express, Sbarro, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne’s, Charlie’s, Subway, California Pizza Kitchen, and Cheesecake Factory. Real talk with Lizz (formerly feral freeway with Lizz) includes a bit of celebrity gossip regarding Selena and Hailey Beiber as well as a chat about the reality shows Vanderpump Rules and Married at First Sight. The gal’s advice ain’t that great today, but Kelly and Lizz sure tried. One listener writes in about her negative and critical older sister while another is having a surprise baby number three and needs to know if she can fit three across in her sedan and SUV.  In industry news, Kelly has a report about GM's Ultra cruise hands free driving system and the gals are on the hunt for a newly released 2024 Chevrolet Traverse (in spy camo) in the wild. Kelly shares a fun fact about the blind inventor of cruise control who first innovated the technology in 1945. Kelly and Lizz are wrapping up the episode today with the ditch the drive-through they’re having for lunch: copycat Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Want our advice on literally anything? MOCKTAIL TIPSY07 Mar 202300:58:31
Can you feel the sisterly love? Kelly and Lizz are fired up on this episode of the Carpool podcast and have some opinions to share that are strong, or should we say valid — which is today’s millennial word of the day.  This might be the best day of Lizz’s life, thanks to today’s taste drive of Liquid IV mocktails. Kelly and Lizz try the unbelievable cucumber mojito and the delicious Smoky Mezcal Paloma. These hydrating mocktails get a 12 out of 10 from the gals. Kelly’s cleaned out her closet with a friend, is getting ready to reset her house for spring, and shares all about ways to make your room feel different while doing the least on today’s driveway dump. The Skinny Confidential podcast has also got Kelly ‘meditating’ and easing her way into cold plunges. Listen in to hear how. Lizz’s feral freeway includes a rant about the disgusting controversy surrounding Missouri and the midwest, ways to use your breastmilk outside of feeding your baby, and sister smells. Carpool listener advice questions are piling up, and Kelly and Lizz are here to help. Is it rude to ask someone to put their dogs away when visiting? Is it okay to decline a wedding invite because of a complicated past? Are car auction cars sketchy? And is CarMax better than Carvana? The gals are ready to dish out their best — and to remind you about their car buying course, you can grab over at The Car Mom Official. → Want our advice on literally anything? Shoot us an email for a chance to get your questions featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com In industry news, Ford patents a system for self-repossessing vehicles and Volkswagen crosses a line. In the US, light vehicle sales rose 9.5% to 1.14 million last month, people are dying over the Mustang Mach-E and Ford Lightning, and Kelly gives her take on a list of the “best” full-size s the best full-size SUVs for 2023. Lizz is bringing the ditch for ditch the drive-through today, and it comes from a Car Mom all-time favorite Instagrammer Trader Joe’s Five Items or Less. Lizz made the shrimp jicama tacos with corn salsa and avocado for lunch this week and highly recommends them. Kelly has a new foodie obsession, too: The College Nutritionist who posts delicious comfort meals for weight loss.  → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! THE DARK SIDE OF MOMMY COMMENTS02 Mar 202300:53:36
Kelly is on the get little program, Lizz is on the get big program, and Fred-uccini Alfredo is recovering from his tongue tie procedure — no fun. Part 2 of Lizz’s millennial word of the day, dating edition is all about toxic relationship behavior. Cookie jarring, love bombing, and orbiting. What are they and how will Kelly fit them all into one sentence? Listen in to find out. On Kelly's driveway dump she shares her favorite hacks: upgrading her Jimmy John's experience with Kickin’ Ranch and using a twenty minute timer to tidy up the house or — better yet — the car. Lizz says she has found the dark side of mommy-comments on social media and the gals rant about car seat safety pseudo-experts.  trü frü is the star of the taste drive today. Kelly and Lizz are ready to save you a few bucks by determining which flavors are worth your $8 and which ones you can skip.  The taste-driven flavors on this episode are: blueberries in white and dark chocolate, bananas in peanut butter and dark chocolate, raspberries in white and dark chocolate, and strawberries in white and milk chocolate. Kelly and Lizz share what they think about a conveyor belt floor patent and how both the GM patent and floor patent are really just teasers of what’s yet to come. An alarming crime trend at funerals and car washes and anticipation of Rivian’s major Q4 loss round out the segment. A Carpool listener writes in and asks what she should do when her super cheap Honda Passport lease runs out. Kelly and Lizz talk lease extensions, buy outs, trade ins, interest rates and more to help the leasing listener get the most bang for her buck in a tough car market.  Ditch the drive-through is brought to you courtesy of Kelly’s spontaneity. TYLER RIDING SHOTGUN WITH KELLY AND FRED28 Feb 202301:01:51
Warning: Whiplash may occur from this special episode with Kelly, Tyler, and of course bebe Fred so, buckle up! The millennial word of the day comes from Kelly’s sibling Sydney. “Chronically online,” is meant to describe mostly trolls who are always on social media. Kelly and Tyler agree that all trolls may be millennials and that Gen Z will meanwhile be solving world hunger.  Tyler shares his long-awaited driveway dump and discusses The Crown, the Harry and Megan documentary, and his take on Prince Charles’ “adversity.” Then, tells a ten-second dad-version of Fred’s birth story that includes multiple food breaks. Bathroom permissions, sleeping in, clean rooms that stay clean, square feet, errands, flying by the seat of their pants, Friday nights, and TV freedom make Kelly and Tyler’s list for the great eight of things they took for granted before becoming parents. Which privilege will prevail? Tyler answers dad-of-a-newborn questions from the Carpool that include how the duo divides household chores, the best and hardest part of having three kids, and Tyler’s favorite thing about each kid (and Kelly)! Making it to the top of industry news today, entry level Teslas now cost less than the average new car. Are they ruining their luxury brand? Car and Driver reports that Florida dogs may have to keep their cute little heads in their cars, and Tyler’s got no dog in this fight. IIHS is doing the most and giving awards for 28 models top safety pick plus this year — a number that’s up from the top safety awarded models of 2022. Last, but certainly not least, which auto brand boasts 55% female owners? Tyler just learned how to make mac and cheese this week, so our ditch the drive-through comes from a listener instead. Hilary shares her salsa verde pork in the crock pot recipe that’s great over rice, with veggies, or rolled up in a tortilla.  → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! ARE YOU A BARBIE, BRATZ, POLLY POCKET OR AMERICAN GIRL?11 Jul 202400:57:11
Even though she didn't have a single drink all weekend, Kelly is still recovering from an absolute bender at the lake. Lizz is residing in her new home, but not exactly moved in. And both gals agree tablescapes and formal place settings for 16 people are a thing of the past.  → Kelly and Lizz can't wait to see you at The Car Mom Auto Show next week! Grab your tickets and hit the road to see the best family rides all in one place. And snag a peek at the $950 Baby Ark car seat while you're there! Today's millennial word is 'brat girl summer' inspired by Charlie XCX's new album. Kelly and Lizz discuss how there are four type of girls: Barbies, Bratz, Polly Pockets, and American Girls. And George is winning money, shopping, and finding 'sick' buys on Amazon.  Sometimes motherhood is just hard—Lizz had to go daycare shopping and she's been in tears since. The encouragement and comments from The Car Mom Crew Facebook Group were just the balm her mom's heart needed.  Keep track of your finances even during big life transitions—like moving house or having a new baby. Tyler will be helping her hang a frame TV over her fireplace and her Pink Blush Maternity haul will be helping her get ready for the Auto Show. Kelly scored her maternity haul at H&M, ordered a bearded dragon leash with George, and she couldn't help but order just one more budget carseat for the Auto Show.  Jen is trying for her first baby and hauls around several teenagers with sports gear. What kind of car can she get to accommodate her busy family that will keep her under a $400-500 monthly payment? Kelly says the Honda Pilot might have just the versatility she needs. In industry news the 2025 Kia Soul has been released and offers a Soulmate Special Edition. Leasing now makes up over 35% of EV transactions compared to 24% of transactions for all vehicles.  Crack chicken sandwiches are today's ditch the drive-through meal. All you need to get started is three chicken breasts, a block of cream cheese, pack of ranch dressing, and half a cup of water or chicken broth. Cook on low for eight hours then shred the chicken. SAY PEPSI PEEPS PIT STOP THREE TIMES FAST23 Feb 202300:46:49
Tongue ties, a shocking taste drive, and hot industry gossip are on the Carpool agenda today.  Kicking off this jam-packed episode are three dating terms for today’s millennial word of the day. Cobwebbing (an act of self love), cuffing (most common during the winter months), and cyber flashing (use your imagination).  In Kelly’s driveway dump she shares the five-minute makeup routine she’s finally nailed down. It includes the DIBS contour stick and Beauty Blender foundation. Is Meta’s new paid verification feature going to hurt or help creators? Kelly’s got thoughts on the matter as well as on TikTok’s creativity program that is in Beta. In short, YouTube still wins. To wrap up today’s dump, Kelly finally made the Mississippi roast and needs to apologize for stigmatizing the recipe, because it is the best roast she’s ever had.  A quick Peeps Pepsi pit stop is today’s taste drive and it is giving cream soda. Both gals had their doubts, but this special edition Pepsi truly pulled through. A Carpool listener’s 15-year friendship is the topic of discussion on today’s advice segment. Should she let go of this friendship for good or give it one more shot? Kelly and Lizz share their tips on sharing how you feel with a friend that you’ve been through tough times with. Kelly’s bored on maternity leave, so she’s calling on cookbook roulette to spice up her ditch the drive-through night. She and Lizz are both making recipes from Half-baked Harvest’s cookbook: brioche french toast and baked coconut curry meatballs. You can follow Half-baked Harvest on Instagram here and listen to the Skinny Confidential podcast she was on here.  Industry news reveals it is in fact, not the best time to buy a car — unless you’re paying cash. Luxury brand sales jumped to a record 19.6% of total new car sales, used car inventory is worse in January than in December, and interest rates are spiking monthly payments. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Want our advice on literally anything? HEIGHT IS NOTHING BUT A NUMBER21 Feb 202300:47:06
Wake. Feed. Wrangle toddlers. Curl hair. Watch The Good Wife. Give Fred a life of infant luxury. That’s Kelly’s maternity leave so far. Oh — and let’s not forget nursing while podcasting! If you’re posting attention grabbing yet vague statuses on social media, or annoyed by someone else who does, you might find today’s millennial word of the day — ‘soft launching’ — useful. Lizz is bringing back another feral freeway — her counterpart to Kelly’s driveway dump — where she tells us about the reels she watched this week and viral trends she’s following. Up this week are tart cherry juice for sleep, doubting that makeup influencers are really in such a rush, and the 10 pumps of foundation trend.  Kelly’s sharing her favorite newborn baby products in her driveway dump today. She couldn’t live without The Shusher, her Halo bassinet, Kyte PJs, and muslin washcloths for Fred. Katie Perry is hopping on the mocktail train and Kelly’s ready for a taste drive. A Dyson airwrap recap reveals how Kelly really feels about the (dispensable) hair tool. And Kelly and Lizz answer the question: Is Target overrated lately? Giving equal parts family-essentials and personal splurges, Kelly and Lizz share their last three transactions. Lizz purchased a new pair of the only shoes she wears — Hokas, a washable nursery rug from Rug USA, and maternity biker shorts from Amazon. Kelly went all out with her Tupperware sippy cup buy, matching Hill House dresses for her and Hattie, and a tripod she picked up after being inspired by @cecilybauchmann’s everyday content on Instagram.  When it comes to height and confidence Lizz has always been the six foot girl wearing six inch stilettos while you’ll catch Kelly slouching in the corner. On today’s advice segment, the gals give a mom advice on how to support and celebrate her tall five year old.  Today’s ditch the drive-through comes from Britney — an orange chicken dish that comes together quickly. You’ll need a frozen snap pea stir fry mix from Walmart, chicken, Top Ramen, and Panda Express orange chicken sauce to pull this one off! In short and sweet industry news, Consumer Reports names their Top 10 picks of 2023 Cars and include the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Subaru Forester, and Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid in their lineup. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Want our advice on literally anything?
