CANDYcolored studio podcast episode #251: micah clasper-torch is one of the most warm, caring and genuine people i've had the pleasure of spending time with. we quickly went deep in this interview and you'll not only be smitten by her gracious desire to teach all that she's learned, but you'll go away from this interview filled with wise thoughts and the courage to continue pursuing your creative path. micah's cv is extensive as are her experiences in the design capitals of the US and the world (milano). her book: punch needle fashion is the bridge between the time-loved craft of needle rug hooking and the seemingly intimidating world of fashion. she effortlessly shares how her love to learn and celebrate the craft & its evolution has taken a lovely creative journey discovering how to construct fashion pieces using this timeless art of punch needle. join her in her community: punch needle world. learn, create and be inspired via her book (it's truly like nothing i've seen) and by joining her email list. enjoy! (and thank you micah!!) order the book punch needle fashion: 15 punch needle projects for crafting accessories and wearables

this is the 3rd episode in a series about giving and choice (aka agency). you know those amazing people in your lives that help you be a better overall person, parent and/or friend?! julia is one of the those incredible people in my life. i had the impression to ask her to be part of this series because i knew she lives the principles discussed. little did i know, that her husband richard had done his dissertation on “agency” and that the two of them had studied & discussed late into the night & early mornings while he was studying and writing this dissertation. to say it has guided their marriage, parenting, friendships and personal choices is an absolute understatement. this is merely a tip of the iceberg in our journey. enjoy and wet your whistle. it’s going to be a meaningful and unforgettable journey! resources mentioned: CONNECT WITH ME: email: k@katrinaberg.com join my SWEETlist (my email list) instagram @katrina.berg

being a mother artist, like most passions and paths, is not for the faint of heart. it requires time, commitment, focus, humility, change, invention and reinvention, and help from others. our CANDYclub has been discussing workflow and systems in our studio and homes. we’re hoping to find new solutions to add and strategies that will help us refine our flow. one of our club members who i love and admire admitted that she’s intimidated with the idea of being both an artist and mother. what an honest and familiar thought. i think very few of us feel like we are balancing both beautifully...but i do believe we know deep in our hearts that it’s worth the work to enjoy this parallel journey mothering and creating. | melody newey johnson: nurse, poet & her manuscript “an imperfect roundness” | 30 Sep 2020 | 01:26:45
melody newey johnson and i first met at art & soup a couple years ago. What fun when we realized she and her husband would be building a home in midway...just down the street from our home! we stayed in touch and i’ve loved getting to know she and her family through instagram. she came to visit my studio one day and we chatted about her poetry collection a painting celebrating “an imperfect roundness”, and had the most wonderful deep chat about so many other things. you’ll not only hear about this beautiful collection, but you’ll get to hear melody read to you several of the poems. to say it was the loveliest fireside chat i’ve experienced is an understatement. note: there is a bonus at the end of the podcast version of this episode where melody describes one of her past writing projects: “people of frontrunner”...enjoy hearing about that project & her plans to expand it. also, i mistakenly called “ulysses” “oedipus” as we talked about the odyssey, avoiding the sirens, and hearing a “sweeter song”. it’s been a while since i’ve dove into mythology...definitely time for a refresh ;) LINKS: LEAVE ME FEEDBACK: CONNECT WITH ME: CONNECT WITH ME: email: k@katrinaberg.com join my SWEETlist (my email list) instagram @katrina.berg

| fear, brave souls, reading more & open minds | 16 Sep 2020 | 00:40:48 | |
what do YOU do when a new or old fear starts creeping in? do you meditate/pray/go for a run/share with a loved one or research your heart out? i’ve been voraciously reading, listening and researching every aspect of this pandemic, the sidebar events etc. i want to hear ALL the things and experiences from ALL the people. I feel like i can’t just take the opinion or thoughts of the first person/source i come across...for me, the peace of mind comes from diving deeper and deeper, reading more and more. i NEED the freedom to follow the trail, i WANT the freedom to be able to listen to any one out there that has something to say...and i MUST have the space to make my own choices...AND i want YOU to be able to do the SAME -- even if we don’t come up with the same resolve. in this episode i get pretty raw talking about my fears, frustrations, hope, realities (or seeming realities), the idea of “consensus”, and share the resources giving me the strength to follow and pursue what’s best for me...and our lil’ family. | buying art materials in bulk, ways we grieve, world peace & mind control | 23 Mar 2024 | 00:56:02
CANDYcolored studio podcast episode 237: what are the best places to buy art materials? there are great places online and locally but i have found buying in bulk to be the most helpful for me. do you ever think about "world peace" and what that would look like? which are more important to you: peace or agency/free will? which do you think will make the biggest difference in our world? loss, betrayal & change — everyone I talk with is grieving someone or something. grief is an uncomfortable but necessary part of life. when we don’t face or work through our grief it can come back later with a vengeance interrupting or triggering us at the most inopportune times. it’s normal to be affected by grief time and time again, but the more we bravely walk through it or talk about it, the easier it becomes and the more we can learn from the experience. what are you & your loved ones grieving? what helps you most as you process your grief? who needs your help most in their grief?
