| #224 Designing Your Career with Tara Humphrey | 04 Jan 2023 | 00:28:55 | |
This is the first podcast of 2023 and I think for many people, the start of a new year provides us with the opportunity to look back and reflect over the past year. For me, one of the highlights of last year was the amount I got to travel for work I think because I'm happy to travel, because I have a really strong support system which enables me to do this, and because I leverage social media, this podcast and our blog, this exposure has created so many opportunities that have given me the flexibility to design my career.
· I'm a CEO of a company which is soon to have 10 employees · I'm a podcaster – where I share my insights of being a health care manager and have interviews with established leaders in the field of health and care · I'm a blogger where we share Primary Care Network leadership and management advice · And within my job, I am a hands on PCN Manager and facilitator and consultant and advisor
I don’t think what I have built is a conventional consultancy.
I am just following my passions, saying yes to the opportunities that interest me, taken a few risks, investing in myself and to a degree, I’m happy to make a bunch of mistakes along the way. I think that’s how you design your career is unique to you. If you have the desire to do something different, a create a side hustle, or take on a project that maybe pushes you outside of your comfort zone or even change your job entirely, maybe 2023 is the year to do this. You do not have to be one thing or do the same thing you have always done, but it’s up to you and down to you to create opportunities. I believe, in order to make this happen, you need to be a bit braver and give yourself the permission to try something different, knowing that the worse thing that could happen is you would be to simply fail.
It's OK to try something and it not work. It can be emotionally painful, time-consuming and financially costly BUT lol…. Don’t let that put you off. Be smart and take steps that will help you to minimise the risks.
I absolutely love the career I am building, and I feel both content and excited to do more and try more.
This year, instead of having a word for 2023, we are going for a vibe that vibe is NEXT Level.
In 2023, I want to do things that take me as a Leader, business owner, podcaster and blogger to the next level which at the moment requires me to be both a bit braver, and bit more focussed. I would like to end this podcast asking you to consider: 1. What do you want your vibe of the year to be? 2. If you were a bit braver, career-wise what would you do? 3. Are there any areas which require a bit more focus and what would this look like?

| #213 The Role of The Primary Care Network Manager | 19 Oct 2022 | 00:15:38 | |
#213 The Role of The Primary Care Network Manager I work as a Primary Care Network Manger within Primary Care Networks. However, this podcast is honestly applicable to any management role. I learned a lot of these skills when I worked in a university as a business development manager. It doesn't really matter where you are, it's the skills and how you apply them to your area of work. The role of a Primary Care Network Manager supporting their Clinical Lead, I believe needs to be a master facilitator. They are the person that your clinical lead will look to. You're just behind them, you're their best supporting actor or actress you're there to help. Sometimes you may chair the meeting, or you are the double act to the chair in a meeting. You're really good at gaining consensus and uncovering the things that are not being said. Topics to listen out for

| #210 Personalised Care & Social Prescribing with Dr Mohan Sekeram | 28 Sep 2022 | 00:32:01 | |
Dr Mohan Sekeram, is GP Principal at Wide Way Medical Practice in Merton, RCGP Regional Clinical Lead London (Person Centred Care) and Clinical Lead for Social Prescribing in Wandsworth and Merton Borough. Mohan’s work has set the gold standard for Social Prescribing and introducing Link Workers to Primary Care. Mohan joins me today to talk about Social Prescribing. He shares what the difference is between Social Prescribing and Link Workers, what Social Prescribing is and the evidence of the effectiveness of Social Prescribing. He talks about why we should ask patients ‘what matters to you?’ rather than ‘what is the matter with you?’ He also shares how important it is to make the time to implement initiatives that bring patients, communities, and the practice together. “Why medicalise all these problems when in fact actually you need a non-medical solution and getting to the root cause of the issue by being person-centred will help us get the right outcome.” Dr Mohan Sekeram This week on The Business of Healthcare:

| #192 Mediation & How To Reduce Conflict - Dr Clare Sieber | 03 Mar 2022 | 00:36:08 | |
Welcome back to The Business of Healthcare Podcast. This week I have the pleasure of speaking with Dr Clare Sieber who is a GP and Mediator. Clare only mediates disputes in healthcare settings, with a focus on those in primary care such as GP partnership, PCN, GP practice workplace disputes, and disputes between a patient's family and the clinical team. There is a lot to take away from this episode and especially how mediation can work really well early on in a situation rather than leaving it too late in the process. Mediation is entirely voluntary and all parties have to agree for it to take place. It can be carried out virtually or face to face. “For a Team to be functional it needs to have trust and inclusion right at its core, make sure the team meets regularly, know values and passions, then you are less likely to get into that bitter situation with them.” Dr Clare Sieber

Back in 2016 Pete was told that he had Myeloma and was given 7 years to live. Pete started https://www.10000donors.com/ to be doing something proactive not just to help himself but to help other people who are in a similar situation. "I believe every single one of us has a genetic twin somewhere in the world, if you can find your genetic twin and you happen to need a stem cell transplant, they can be donated to someone in need like myself and grow into healthy cells" If you can do one thing today it would be to listen to this this podcast, SHARE this podcast and check out www.10000donors.com to help support Pete McCleave in his quest to find his Blood Stem Cell Match.

| #188 How to build Legitimacy | 03 Feb 2022 | 00:17:48 | |
This week on The Business of Healthcare Podcast I am discussing Building Legitimacy. Having a boundary spanning role and building legitimacy go hand in hand. It can feel like you are constantly trying to build legitimacy and when you join a new organisation – you have to start from scratch and you have to show who you are and share your values.
Other people can build your legitimacy by word of mouth testimonial / referral and this is really important, but you still have to live up to this expectation. Do this by trying to get to know people, make it personal and make it not all about you but showcase your experience.
Points that are discussed
You need to understand the context you work within – please take a listen to my episode 171 Understanding the context you work within by clicking here to explore this further
The most practical piece of advice I can offer is, be visible do what you say you are going to do and make the time to genuinely get to know people and be yourself. Book mentioned in this episode
