#EP116 - The Business You Start Isn’t The Business You’re Meant To Build As A Mom Entrepreneur10 Sep 202600:06:22

What if the business you started isn’t the business you’re actually meant to build?

We’re often sold the idea that successful entrepreneurs simply had the right idea from the beginning. But the reality is much messier and much more exciting.

In this episode, I share three real examples: Sara Blakely, Emily Weiss and Arianna Huffington and how their businesses evolved from where they started.

Because you don’t need the whole map.You need a compass to help navigate your entrepreneurship for mom.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why your first business idea doesn’t have to be your final one
  • How your audience, experience and life can reveal what your business needs to become
  • Why changing your definition of success doesn’t mean you’ve failed — it may be bringing you closer to your purpose

Your business is allowed to evolve. So are you.

#EP115 - The Business You Start Is Not the Business You’re Meant to Build As A Mom Entrepreneur07 Sep 202600:11:54

Mom in business, mom entrepreneur? What if the business you started isn’t the business you’re actually meant to build?

We’ve been sold this very neat version of entrepreneurship: you have an idea → you launch → you succeed.

But real businesses rarely work that way.

As a mum entrepreneur, your business can evolve as you learn what your audience wants, discover what you’re good at, and — perhaps most importantly — realise that you have changed too.

In this episode, we’re talking about why your first business idea doesn’t have to be your final one, and why changing your niche, offer, business model or definition of success isn’t necessarily failure.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why you don’t find your perfect business idea — you discover it by building
  • The 3 signs it may be time to evolve your business and stop forcing your original plan
  • How to recognise when your business no longer fits the life, priorities and purpose of the woman you’re becoming

Because you’re allowed to change your mind. You’re allowed to outgrow the business you started.

The goal isn’t to stay loyal to the first version of your dream. The goal is to build a business that fits the woman you’re becoming.

#EP114 - Mom Entrepreneur, Don’t Let Imposter Syndrome Make You Quit04 Sep 202600:03:24

As a mom entrepreneur, it’s easy to question everything when your business isn’t moving as quickly as you hoped.

Maybe you’re wondering if you need a new niche, a different offer, a new strategy… or even a completely different business.

But sometimes what looks like a business problem is actually self-doubt, impatience or impostor syndrome talking.

In this episode, I explore why we’re so tempted to start again when things get difficult, and how to recognise the difference between a purposeful pivot and simply escaping discomfort.

You’ll learn how to:

✨ Recognise when you’re changing direction for the right reasons and when impostor syndrome, comparison or frustration is making the decision for you.

✨ Stop confusing slow progress with failure and give yourself permission as a mom entrepreneur to stay with an idea long enough to learn, test and grow it.

✨ Reconnect with your purpose — so you can make decisions from where you actually want to go, rather than constantly chasing what looks successful for someone else.

Because building a business around motherhood was never supposed to mean having everything figured out.

Sometimes you don’t need another idea.

You need to trust yourself enough to give the one you already have a real chance.

#EP113- Mom Entrepreneur, You Don’t Need Another Business Idea. You Need to Make One Work.01 Sep 202600:10:34

If you’ve had three business ideas this week, changed your offer twice this month, or caught yourself thinking, “Maybe I should just do something else…” — this episode is for you.

As a mum entrepreneur, it’s easy to question whether you’re building the right business — especially when you’re trying to grow a business around school runs, motherhood and the mental load.

But sometimes, you don’t need another business idea. You need to stay with the one you have long enough to make it work.

In this episode, we talk about why moms in business, business moms can feel the urge to start again when things get difficult, and how comparison, self-doubt and impatience can make you question your purpose.

I’ll share my own experience of building The Business Mum Compass — changing the name, refining the positioning, evolving the business and opening a podcast studio — without throwing everything away and starting from scratch.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why starting something new can feel easier than staying with your current business
  • How comparison and self-doubt can make you question your purpose as a mum entrepreneur
  • How to know whether you genuinely need to pivot or simply need to give your business more time, testing and visibility

#EP111 - Why You Can’t Show Up in Business As A Mom Entrepreneur (And It’s Not Because You Lack Confidence)24 Aug 202600:34:38

As a mum entrepreneur, you can know exactly what you need to do in your business and still struggle to do it.

You might call it procrastination. You might blame a lack of confidence, discipline or consistency. Or you might think you’re experiencing impostor syndrome.

But what if your nervous system is actually playing a much bigger role?

In this episode of The Business Mum Compass, I’m joined by Jules Barry, founder of The Jules Method, to explore the connection between your nervous system, self-doubt, impostor syndrome and the way you show up in business.

We talk about what happens when ambitious mums are operating in survival mode, why slowing down can feel so uncomfortable, and how regulating your nervous system can help you reconnect with your confidence, energy and purpose.

In this episode, you’ll learn:
  • Why impostor syndrome and self-doubt may be a nervous system response, not a personal flaw.
  • How to recognise when you’re operating in survival mode and how it can affect your confidence, visibility and business as a mom entrepreneur
  • Simple ways to regulate your nervous system so you can show up with more consistency, energy and ease as a mum entrepreneur

If you’re a mum entrepreneur building a business around motherhood, questioning yourself, struggling to show up online or wondering whether you’re really meant to be doing this, this conversation will remind you that your ambition, your business and your purpose matter too.

Because sometimes the problem isn’t that you need to try harder. You need to feel safe enough to show up.

#EP110 - Mum Entrepreneur, Are You Feeling Behind? This Is Your Reminder.19 Aug 202600:04:22
You’re Not Failing. You’re Overwhelmed.

This episode is a little different. It’s a voice note.

No polished script. No pretending I have it all figured out. Just an honest conversation about what it feels like when, as a mum entrepreneur, you suddenly feel like you’re failing at everything.

Over the last few days, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed. My business isn’t growing the way I want it to, my house is a mess, I missed an appointment, and I found myself questioning whether I was actually doing a good enough job at all.

And I know I’m not the only mom entrepreneur or woman in business who has felt this way.

Sometimes, one difficult week can trigger impostor syndrome and make us question everything we’re building.

But feeling like a failure doesn’t mean you are failing.

In this voice note, I share what helped me step out of the spiral, regulate my nervous system and look underneath the surface to understand what was really going on as a mom in business and mom entrepreneur.

You’re not just building a business. You’re doing it alongside motherhood, family responsibilities, the mental load and everything else that needs your attention.

And sometimes what feels like failure is actually overwhelm, exhaustion or a lack of clarity.

#EP109 - Feeling Like a Failure? The Mom Entrepreneurs Reality No One Talks About17 Aug 202600:15:16

You are a mum entrepreneur, mum in business - Have you ever had one of those weeks where everything feels like it’s going wrong?

Your business isn’t growing as quickly as you hoped. The house is a mess. You’re forgetting appointments. Your to-do list keeps getting longer and suddenly, instead of thinking “I’m having a difficult week,” you’re thinking “I’m failing at everything.”

Yep. I’ve been there.

In this episode. I’m getting really honest about what happens when the pressure of motherhood, business and mental load all collide and how easy it is to mistake overwhelm for failure.

In this episode, you’ll discover:
  • Why feeling like a failure doesn’t mean you’re actually failing — and how to separate facts from the story your overwhelmed brain is telling you.
  • How to regulate your nervous system before trying to solve everything — because you don’t need to make big decisions from a dysregulated state.
  • How clarity, planning and simple systems can reduce overwhelm — and why sometimes you don’t need more motivation, you need better support and structure.

Because being a mum entrepreneur means you’re not just building a business.

THE 4 R's Method:

REGULATE — get out of the spiral. REALITY CHECK — feelings aren't facts. REVEAL — what's actually underneath the feeling? REORGANISE — create the plan/system/support you actually need.

In this short voice note to her younger self, Jess Watman shares a powerful reminder for every mum entrepreneur: you already have more skills, experience and capability than you give yourself credit for.

When we’re building a business, it’s easy to focus on what we don’t know, compare ourselves to women who seem further ahead, or convince ourselves that our dreams are simply too big.

But what if the next step isn’t another course, another strategy or another qualification?

What if it’s simply learning to trust yourself?

If you’ve been playing small, questioning whether you’re capable, or waiting for someone else to validate your next move, this episode is your reminder:

Trust yourself. Trust what you know. And aim for the stars.

#EP97 - Why Mum Entrepreneurs Struggle With Consistency (It’s Actually Decision Fatigue)02 Jul 202600:02:11

What if your consistency problem isn’t about discipline but about decision fatigue?

This is a quick voice note from Marie on The Business Mum Compass Podcast, sharing a powerful reframe for mum entrepreneurs who feel overwhelmed, inconsistent, or like they “can’t stay on track” in their business.

In this short episode, Marie explains how constant daily micro-decisions—around family, life admin, and emotional load—can drain your mental capacity before you even start your work. What looks like procrastination or lack of discipline is often actually cognitive overload.

In this voice note, you’ll learn:

  • Why inconsistency is often linked to decision fatigue, not lack of discipline as a mum entrepreneur
  • How mental overload shows up as procrastination, scrolling, and avoidance
  • How to start designing your business around energy and simplicity instead of willpower as a mum entrepreneur

If you’ve been feeling stuck, inconsistent, or frustrated with yourself, this episode will help you see things differently—and with more self-compassion.

#EP 96 - Why Mum Entrepreneurs Think They Lack Discipline (When It’s Actually Decision Fatigue)29 Jun 202600:12:12

What if you don’t actually have a discipline problem… but a decision fatigue problem you’ve never named?

In today’s episode, Marie is unpacking why so many mum entrepreneurs building a business with purpose often feel inconsistent, unmotivated, or “behind” and why the real issue has nothing to do with discipline, and everything to do with mental load, cognitive overload, and the invisible decisions draining you before you even touch your business.

And underneath it all? The quiet layer of impostor syndrome that makes you question whether you’re even cut out for this, when in reality, you’re just exhausted.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

✅ Why constant micro-decisions throughout the day drain your ability to focus and execute in your business as a mum entrepreneur

✅ How cognitive depletion shows up as procrastination, scrolling, and inconsistency (not laziness)

✅ How to design your business around energy and systems, not willpower or motivation

Press play to learn why your inconsistency as mum entrepreneurs isn’t a discipline issue but a decision fatigue problem hiding in your daily mental load.
