Greg Lefcourt of Beleza (Boulder) on Coffee, Community & Creating the Best Vibes28 Mar 202601:06:45

What actually makes a coffee shop feel different?

In this episode of Breaking Normal, I sit down with Greg Lefcourt — co-owner of Beleza Coffee in Boulder — to explore what’s really happening beneath the surface of coffee culture.

Greg has spent decades at the highest level of specialty coffee… competing, judging, and helping shape the scene. But what he’s building with Beleza goes beyond coffee — it’s about connection, presence, and creating a space people actually feel.

We get into:

- Why he killed the Wi-Fi (and what that revealed about people)

- What coffee taught him about human nature

- The fine line between mastery, ego, and art

- How drinks like the Persian Love Latte (with saffron, rose, pistachio) can shift your state

- What makes a great barista vs. just a skilled one

- His favorite coffee shops around the world

- What actually creates a magnetic community vibe

Questions we explored:

- What has coffee taught you about humans that has nothing to do with coffee?

- Why did you remove Wi-Fi when most cafés are doubling down on it?

- What made you step away from the “high-level coffee world” to build something more human?

- When does mastery become ego… and when does it become art?

- What kind of ritual are people craving right now without realizing it?

- Can a drink actually shift someone’s emotional state?

- What’s a place or experience that changed how you see what a café can be?

- What makes a truly great coffee shop?

- What separates a great barista from everyone else?

- What do people reveal over coffee that they don’t say anywhere else?

- What would the perfect café for human connection look like?

If you’re in Boulder, this is one of those spots you don’t just visit — you feel it.

Coffee might be the excuse… But connection is the real product.

Skiing 80mph on Raw Milk: The Olympic Rebellion of Ryder Sarchett06 Mar 202601:07:20

Is your training program fueled by ego or biology?

Daniel Eisenman sits down with local legend and Olympic alpine skier Ryder Sarchett to deconstruct the "weird" habits that separate world-class athletes from the pack. After getting cut from the US Ski Team at 19, Ryder "burned the boats," left college, and clawed his way back to the Olympic stage by rejecting traditional endurance protocols in favor of neurological flow.

In this episode, we dive into:

  • How raw milk became Ryder's secret weapon for eliminating back pain and inflammation.
  • The "Anti-Push" parenting method that fosters genuine obsession over burnout.
  • Why tapering and nervous system regulation are the keys to 80mph precision on the ice.
  • The College Dropout mentality: Choosing real-world mastery over a $100k debt.

This is a deep dive into the shift from traditional "talk therapy" styles of coaching to neurological and ancestral solutions for peak performance.

Why Sustainability, Sales, and Retirement All Need a Rethink13 Feb 202601:05:31

What if sustainability isn’t about optics—but about doing the hard, unglamorous work no one wants to deal with? In this episode of Breaking Normal, host Daniel Eisenman sits down with Kathey Pear, lifelong entrepreneur, sales strategist, and sustainability realist, to unpack why “green” has become more marketing than practice. From office furniture landfills to the myth of retirement, Kathey shares decades of lived experience navigating business with integrity. This episode is for founders, operators, and thinkers who want to build something useful, honest, and human—and understand why that matters now more than ever.

Main Topics Covered

  • Why “retirement” is a broken concept for people who love their work

  • Sales as service, triage, and truth—not manipulation

  • The hidden environmental cost of office furniture and business moves

  • Why 90% of office furniture ends up in landfills

  • Greenwashing vs. real sustainability practices

  • The real constraints: storage, real estate, and economics

  • Why scaling too fast destroys otherwise good businesses

  • Potlatch economics and redefining wealth, value, and success

Key Takeaways

  • Sustainability fails when it’s cheaper to throw things away than deal with them

  • Sales done well is about helping people make better decisions

  • Going slow allows you to survive your mistakes—and learn from them

  • Real impact often starts long before profit or recognition

  • Wealth isn’t what you accumulate—it’s what you circulate

All I See Is Opportunity with Birdlimb06 Feb 202601:04:28

What if The Matrix wasn’t fiction—but a documentary?

In this real-deal Breaking Normal conversation, I sit down with Clark, the founder of Birdlimb, and we go far beyond the red pill vs. blue pill narrative.

We dive into:

• Why The Matrix feels more like a documentary than a movie

• Raising Neos, not NPCs (including Clark’s youngest son, Neo)

• Healing outside the modern medical model through meditation, awareness, and self-trust

• Pulling kids out of the medical matrix and becoming your own doctor

• How a month of working together—and Tribe Vitamins—supported that shift

• Tallow, ritual, and commitment (100 Sundays at 1 PM)

• Remembering the future and the possibility of a Boulder Creek retreat

• Bringing outside nature inside our homes through Birdlimb

• Laughter, presence, goofy essence, and bird songs to close it out

This is a conversation about sovereignty, intuition, family, and seeing opportunity where others see limitation.

From Peak Performance to a Heart Attack: Fitnessing for Life with Tim O’Donnell21 Jan 202601:02:22

In this deeply inspiring episode of the Breaking Normal Podcast, I sit down with Timothy O’Donnell—world-class triathlete, coach, speaker, and father of three—who has been living and training in Boulder, Colorado for the past 17 years.

At the pinnacle of his professional fitness career, Tim suffered a heart attack during a race in Miami—yet still finished the race, missing the Top 10 by just one place. Later that night, he found himself in the hospital, a moment that would permanently change his relationship with training, recovery, and life itself.

Before undergoing a life-saving stent procedure, Tim made a pivotal phone call to previous Breaking Normal guest David Tusek. With the support of cutting-edge diagnostics, elite cardiology care, and deep self-reflection, Tim was eventually cleared to return to training—but with an entirely new philosophy.

This conversation explores:
• What it means to “fitness for life” instead of chasing peak performance at all costs
• How a heart attack reshaped Tim’s identity as an athlete, husband, and father
• The quiet cost of being world-class—and the freedom found in doing less, better
• Longevity, recovery, fatherhood, and redefining what winning really means

We also touch on the powerful role Tim’s wife plays in the endurance racing world, the importance of community, and how elite athletes evolve when performance is no longer the only metric that matters.

Before we wrapped, I shared what many of our top performing athletes personally love using from Tribe Vitamins—including elk velvet antler, bison testicles, and tallow balm to support recovery, resilience, and skin health in harsh conditions.

Sufi Mystic Retires at 39 to Become a Stay-at-Home Dad | Matt Winkley04 Jan 202601:28:09

What if success wasn’t about climbing higher—but about creating community?

In this truly Breaking Normal episode, recorded inside the house & home of Matt Winkley, who retired at age 39, is now a stay-at-home dad, and gives back deeply to his community… from a podcast studio inside his own home.

Matt lives with his dream partner, Julie, and their 11-month-old son Adam—a highly meditated, not medicated, little human who just took his first steps. That moment becomes a mirror for the episode itself.

Because before Matt ever found peace, he took a much scarier first step.

He escaped the small town he grew up in with a one-way ticket to San Diego, full of stoke—but no clear plan for how to pay for the life he felt called to live. That uncertainty sparked an obsession with entrepreneurship, which eventually led to burnout, illness, and a complete unraveling.

From that breakdown, something unexpected emerged.

Matt found healing through Sufi mysticism, devotion, ann his dharmic diligence—aligning his work with service. That path led him to building and scaling a business working with autistic children, which ultimately allowed him to retire early, transition into real estate, and design a life around freedom, family, and peace.

In this conversation, we go deep into:

• Home vs. house—and why it matters

• Meditation vs. medication (especially with children)

• Vision planning that actually creates freedom

• Designing the ideal day vs chasing distant goals

• Moving from hardworking middle class to financially free

• What peace actually feels like—starting today

• Meditating with your children

• Sufism: the whirling, the path, and the practice Matt follows

• Burnout as initiation, not failure

• What it really means to be unemployable

This episode is full of synchronicities, lived wisdom, and embodied truth. Matt doesn’t just talk about Breaking Normal—he lives it.

Thought I Was Interviewing a Chef… Interviewed a Realtor Instead — And I Loved It26 Dec 202501:02:12

I walked in thinking I was about to interview a chef from Highland City Club…

Turns out, I was sitting down with Stewart Ward, a Boulder realtor who grew up in Miami in the 80s and has carved out his own path in the world of Colorado real estate.

In this episode we explore:

• The number of realtors in Colorado vs. Boulder

• How someone like me could make money in Boulder real estate without being a realtor

• Why having your own real estate license can be useful for flipping homes, the way Stewart has done in Oregon and the way my brother does in Georgia

• Affordable housing in Boulder, land leases, rentals, and luxury homes all existing within blocks of one another

• What his home recommendation would be for someone on a budget vs. someone with no budget at all

• The “glass castles” and other iconic homes in Boulder and around the world

• The types of home features I gravitate toward — gas-burning stoves, mold-free hardwood floors, clean materials, functional layouts

• Wood-burning fireplace restrictions in new Boulder homes — and how people try to work around them

• How private memberships and other creative structures may play into future housing or property loopholes

• His take on the best deal he currently has listed in Boulder

• The new hotel developments shaping the next chapter of the city

We also touched on lifestyle adjustments for newcomers to Colorado’s climate and why Stewart was curious about Tribe Vitamins products for clients adapting to the dryness.

Sometimes you think you’re interviewing a chef…

Sometimes you end up learning how Boulder real estate really works.

He Turned Down Millions… to Babysit a Whale | Shawn Heinrichs24 Dec 202501:23:29

This may be the most Breaking Normal episode we’ve ever recorded — and both the producer and I agree.

This conversation traces the evolution of Shawn Heinrichs from growing up in Durban, South Africa — surrounded by landscapes that feel straight out of Avatar — to moving to the mainland United States and excelling at the Wharton School of Business.

At one point, Shawn was on the deal of a lifetime with NVIDIA Corporation — now ranked as the most valuable company in the world — and he said no.

They came back with a better offer.

That’s when he truly walked away.

No amount of money was worth abandoning the ocean — the place that felt like home.

What followed was nearly a decade as an undercover investigative journalist, exposing some of the darkest industries tied to the sea: whale shark fins, rhino horns, and global poaching operations. His work put him directly in the path of people operating within criminal networks capable of extreme violence — working in the shadows, often out of sight and out of mind.

He persevered — until the darkness nearly overwhelmed his own soul.

That’s when everything changed.

Shawn realized fear doesn’t inspire protection — love does.

And instead of telling people what’s wrong with the ocean, he devoted his life to helping people fall in love with it.

That evolution led to him founding the global conservation organization Only One. Most recently, he brought to Boulder — with event co-founder and his dear friend Samuel J — Ocean Bloom, a living art and conservation project featuring the musical talents of previous Breaking Normal guest Ayla Nereo.

At its core, Ocean Bloom reflects a much deeper philosophy:

Expect nothing. Experience everything.

In this episode, we go everywhere:

• Babysitting a whale for three hours

• Kissing a whale shark

• Swimming with tiger sharks

• Communicating with a baby manta ray underwater that told him,

“The ocean doesn’t need saving — it’s time to save yourself.”

One of the most unexpectedly Breaking Normal moments came when Shawn became the first guest ever to turn down Tribe Vitamins — not out of judgment, but out of a deeply personal pact with the animal kingdom. He believes the animals know he will never harm them, and in return, they will not only avoid harming him — but invite him into unimaginable, intimate connections with them.

It may be one of the most grounded, honest, and compelling reasons for long-term veganism I’ve ever heard — and somehow, he understands Tribe Vitamins and regenerative bison and elk better than most people who actually use the products.

Ironically, the one guest who didn’t take the supplements became one of the strongest reflections of the ethos behind them.

He did accept the honey.

He took the book.

And his way of living — expecting nothing and experiencing everything — mirrors the very heart of Breaking Normal.

I couldn’t even take notes like I normally do during this conversation.

I was too busy listening.

This isn’t just an episode.

It’s an experience.

We hit the 10 rapid-fire Breaking Normal popcorn questions designed to pull out the real gems, and he delivered. We explored his upcoming homecoming trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, his work with past Breaking Normal guests like David from Elixium and the power of ancestral superfoods like Shilajit, and how he’s feeling after being one of the very few humans truly happy after shoulder surgery—shoutout to his surgeon Benjamin Sears.

One of the most touching parts of the conversation was when Eagle opened up about losing his mom at the age of nine—how it shaped him, how it shaped his dad, and the inner work he’s now exploring to continue deepening his relationship with her spirit. It was raw, real, and one of those moments you don’t forget.

“Study the Kids — They Hold the Secret” with Matt Bernstein of Ape Co30 Oct 202501:01:12

What if the secret to mastery is hidden in the way children move — not in how adults train?

In this long-awaited Breaking Normal conversation, Daniel Eisenman sits down with Matt Bernstein, founder of Ape Co Movement in Boulder, Colorado — a student of movement, father of three, and one of the original disciples of Ido Portal’s philosophy.

Matt shares how a single video — Ido Portal on The Paleo Diet, CrossFit, Gymnastics, Motivation – RawBrahs (https://youtu.be/gWSxC3hkQUw), created by Daniel and his brothers years ago and featuring Nahko Bear’s music — completely changed the trajectory of his life. That viral film inspired Matt to train six hours a day, six days a week under Ido Portal in New York City, eventually founding Boulder Movement Collective (2015) and evolving it into Ape Co.

From turning down a venture-capital acquisition to realizing that shutting down Ape Co Denver was one of his greatest successes, Matt’s story is about rediscovering movement, humility, and what it means to grow through grace instead of grit.

Together they explore:

• 🌱 The art of being a gardener, not a carpenter, as a parent and teacher

• 💡 Why the journey is the destination

• 💫 How grace outweighs grit in growth

• 👶 And why children hold the secret to everything

The episode ends with Daniel unboxing a custom Breaking Normal leather belt — a handcrafted gift from Clayton & Crume (https://claytonandcrume.com) — symbolizing strength, story, and legacy.

Nature Is the Original Biohack, and Support Is the Ultimate Stack — with Joshua J. Holland20 Oct 202501:10:50

In this deeply experiential conversation, Joshua J. Holland — a world-traveling biohacker, holistic coach, and leader of the Vivobarefoot Coaching Program — joins Daniel Eisenman (Breaking Normal, Tribe Vitamins) to explore the alchemy between nature, movement, and modern biohacking.

The synchronicity started before the mics were even on — both Joshua and Daniel walked into the studio wearing VIVO Barefoot shoes, the 1st reflection of their shared philosophy that nature is the original biohack. That theme wove through the entire conversation as they compared their favorite VIVO models, discussed foot health, and explored how reconnecting to the earth is foundational for human performance.

👉 Check out their favorite shoes and learn more at https://www.vivobarefoot.com.

Joshua shares how growing up on welfare in small-town Oklahoma and now international co-parenting two children between Hungary and New York has shaped his give-first approach to life. From pro basketball in Qatar and Cancun to training world-class artists, his philosophy of “awareness through experience” shines through every story.

* 👣 Barefoot wisdom: comparing VIVO Barefoot shoes, toe yoga, toe spacers, and his new toe sock line — all grounded in the belief that nature is the ultimate biohack.

Joshua’s words are a masterclass in embodiment over theory — a reminder that healing and awareness aren’t always found in the lab but in how we live, move, breathe, and give.

In this powerful and hilarious episode of the Breaking Normal podcast, Daniel sits down with Dr. Sam Shay, DC, IFMCP — a functional medicine practitioner, Fitgenes practitioner, stand-up comic, and truth-seeker who has been tons of podcasts for years.

Dr. Sam explains the difference between western medicine and functional medicine as functional medicine guiding people from chronic → normal → optimal health, while western medicine helps people from crisis → stable. We also discuss genetics testing to help people optimize their health and performance.

But this conversation takes a deeply personal turn as he shares how living with Asperger’s fuels his relentless dedication to truth — and together they explore the question: Does Daniel have Asperger’s?

From there, Daniel and Dr. Sam dive into unforgettable themes:

• The genetics of inflammation and why certain people are more prone than others to inflammation.

Why comedy is the Trojan horse of truth and laughter the best medicine.

• How placebo power depends on the likability and trustworthiness of your doctor.

• Microdosing vs. pharmaceuticals — where the real benefits lie.

• Commercial dairy vs. raw dairy, cholesterol, and controversial nutrition.

• Exercise-induced obesity and the traps of modern fitness.

• 23andMe Syndrome vs. the Fitgenes test — cutting through the shiny object distractions.

• The alchemy of hormones: IGF-1 from elk velvet antler and testosterone from bison testicles.

• What makes a truly great podcast — and the best ones Sam’s ever been on.

Raw, funny, and unexpectedly healthy, this episode captures the heart of Breaking Normal: questioning what’s “normal” and laughing our way closer to the truth.

The Only Way Out Is Through The Soil: Azuraye’s Audacious Vision for Yellow Barn Farm25 Sep 202500:57:06

In this episode of the Breaking Normal Podcast, Daniel sits down with Azuraye Wycoff, visionary steward of Yellow Barn Farm (https://www.yellowbarn.farm) in Boulder, Colorado.Together they trace the land’s extraordinary journey — from its roots as Indigenous territory, to it’s initial homesteading in 1865 by the Allen Brothers, to its time as an international equestrian center, and now into a bold new chapter: an incubator for regenerative land, social & economic design. Azuraye shares her personal odyssey — growing up in Boulder, studying international affairs & Chinese at CU & living abroad in China, moving to Boston and accidentally falling into entrepreneurship through Small Haul Movers, and finally receiving a divine call home in the midst of the COVID pandemic in 2020. Just two days after her return, the most destructive fire in North Boulder’s history scorched up to the Yellow Barn property line — a fiery omen that she was here to stay. This conversation explores:    •  How Yellow Barn partner with DAR to plant nearly 10,000 trees over 5 years and regenerate 100 acres with swale-systems, rotational cattle grazing, planting cover crops, & planning perennial food-forest gardens.    •  A growing membership model featuring other BreakingNormal allies like Yoshua Greenfield - with homesteading classes, community meals, co-working in the barn, a shipping container farmstand, and free/discounted events & programming (like 50% off Puffin Sauna Club).    •  The creation of Picky Pig Compost & Stalk Market Distributions for food scrap collection & home delivery of farm-fresh food.    •   How YBF diversifies income streams through a business incubator program, weddings/events, membership and space rentals.    •   Why Azuraye sees Nature as her greatest teacher, and lives by the principles that growth happens at the speed of trust and the only way out is through the soil.Daniel also threads in Tribe Vitamins (https://tribevitamins.com) — from Tallow Balm to Elk Velvet Antler, raw honey, liver, and heart — aligning ancestral superfoods with regenerative farming, resilience, and rewilding health. From Gaza to Burning Man: Yovel Peretz on War, Manhood, and True Beauty10 Sep 202501:09:48

In this Breaking Normal Podcast episode, I sit down with my producer and friend Yovel Peretz (founder of Let’s Do Podcast), to dive deep into his remarkable journey:

• At 15 years old, Yovel visited Miami with his father and dreamed of building a business in America one day.

• That same year, he began applying for the Israeli Defense Force Special Forces, ultimately breaking records with 52 pull-ups in a row and 144 dips in a row.

• He shares his experiences on the front lines in Gaza, the brutal selection process that whittles 20,000 applicants into just a few hundred, and the mindset it takes to survive and thrive.

• We unpack his insight that: “Israelis drive 20 minutes to war. Americans fly 20 hours to war.”

• Yovel reflects on the wild spectacle of Burning Man, calling it the most extravagant subculture he’s ever witnessed.

• We talk about the Sunday pull-up pyramid we host together, and why true competition is really true cooperation.

• The conversation flows into what it means to be a real man, the role of beauty in modern culture, and the uncomfortable but necessary questions of our time—from Boulder to Israel.

As always, we end with some of the most Breaking Normal questions that crack open new ways of seeing the world. This was easily one of my favorite conversations yet.

In this episode of Breaking Normal, we explore how his time in overseas “paradise” left him isolated and struggling—until surrendering to the possibility of staying stuck cracked open his heart. The Wild Wild West of Somatic Breath Work with Steven Jaggers06 Jun 202501:06:48

In this powerful episode, Daniel sits down with Steven Jaggers (@jaggersjr) from somaticbreathwork.com (https://www.somaticbreathwork.com) to dive deep into the raw, often misunderstood world of breathwork. They kick off with a wild synchronicity around Vivo Barefoot and skateboarding tricks at Outside Festival, then dive headfirst into Steven’s journey from being home-free to discovering his dharma through a death-and-rebirth experience under the guidance of psychedelic pioneer Stan Grof.

They explore:

    •    The metaphorical death that realigned Steven’s life

    •    Why healing is a byproduct of connection

    •    The parasympathetic (exhale) vs. sympathetic (inhale) relationship to survival and thriving

    •    How breathwork mirrors the chakra and nervous systems

    •    Somatic breathwork’s untapped potential — from trauma release to even orgasmic states without touch

    •    Living in Big Island, Sedona, Boulder, Austin, Ashland —  true hotspots for self-evolution

    •    Dolphins at Two-Step Beach and synchronicities that can’t be explained

    •    Teaching as the highest form of learning

Steven opens up about growing up with parents who struggled with addiction, and how breathwork became a lifeline — not just to survive, but to thrive.

One of the simplest — yet most powerful — conversations ever recorded on Breaking Normal.

Vision Questing, Desert Fasting, Lion Tracking, Musagi Engineering, Synchronicity Sparking, and Selling a Company — with Ret Taylor04 Jun 202500:52:53

In this episode of Breaking Normal, I reconnect with Ret Taylor — entrepreneur, adventurer, and transformational coach — for a deep dive into his extraordinary journey.

We explore:

    •    How a four-day desert water fast in Escalante, Utah led Ret to a mystical encounter with a rock shaped like an elephant — and a calling to the African Serengeti with the legendary Lion Tracker.

    •    The art and science behind Musagis — once-a-year challenges designed to push you to the edge with only a 50% chance of success.

    •    The real story behind his attempt to summit Denali, what it taught him about surrender, and why “it doesn’t have to be hard to be valuable.”

    •    Selling his company Hello Ned after a seven-year cycle — and what comes next.

    •    How he went from growing up poor to coaching others into wealth and walking them through the question: “Who am I to do this?”

    •    His upcoming book project and his next musagi.

The Art of Opening with Mitch Hash26 May 202501:06:59

From anxiety and depression to Qigong workshops and YouTube breakthroughs—Mitch Hash joins me on Breaking Normal to share how training with his brothers Josh and Trevor, along with the help of mushrooms, helped get him off the couch and into a life of embodied purpose. His journey has now led to The Art of Opening, where he guides others in nervous system harmony and synchronicity through movement, presence, and Qigong—especially here in Boulder.

Mitch flips the script and interviews me about the origins of Breaking Normal and Tribe Vitamins—how it all came through me during a divorce and the pandemic, and where it’s grown to today. We also dive into modern dating, Boulder-style, and how getting off the apps and into the sun might just be the real art of opening.

God is the Father Now with Steph Hendel23 May 202501:20:47

First episode, where everyone, including the producer was crying. This episode starts with me laughing like a goofball—remembering the moment I met Steph Hendel on September 28, 2012, at a RawBrahs retreat I was hosting with my brothers. It’s the day I met Diana—Divina’s mom—and the day Steph’s entire life took a new trajectory that eventually led her to reunite with he dream man, Josh Tarnofsky.

From there, the story only gets wilder: Steph, Diana, my brother Timothy, my business partner, and I all ended up traveling together through Peru for a month. It was kind of the world’s longest first date… and our friend-turned-fifth-wheel might’ve been the best fifth wheel in history. We talk about hiking Machu Picchu, getting robbed (and how the police somehow seemed sketchier than the thieves), and what it’s like to share a tiny room where I spent a whole night diarrhea-ing before asking Diana to be my girlfriend—with absolutely nothing left to hide.

And then… the laughter dissolves into tears I still don’t fully understand.

We talk about the supernatural love story between Steph and Josh—from a Breaking Normal proposal atop Angel’s Landing to their unforgettable wedding that I had the honor of officiating. We talk about Josh’s transition, and Steph’s raw walk through widowhood, parenting, and relentless prayer. Her heartbreak. Her hope. Her healing. Her realization that even though Josh is gone, her children are not fatherless—because God is the Father now.

She’s now back on the road with her two children, led by trust, speaking at widow’s retreats, and listening to God without needing the full plan.

My producer Yovel said this was the most powerful podcast we’ve ever recorded. I don’t disagree.

Fearless Fermentation from Barefoot Boulder Badassador — Yoshua Greenfield17 May 202501:15:29

In this barefoot Boulder broadcast, I’m joined by Yoshua Greenfield (formerly Josh of Brothers Green), a fearless fermenter, regenerative farmer, and unapologetically off-grid dad. Together, we explore the ancient art and modern magic of fermentation—from the simplicity of sauerkraut to indigenous spit beer (chicha)—and the deeper meaning behind preserving and enlivening our superfoods and ourselves.

Yoshua showed up barefoot with fresh goat milk, pickled eggs, and a book featuring him as a wild child on the cover. We discussed his 15-month-old daughter thriving on raw liver and raw milk, never having seen a doctor or received a vaccine. We also examined his feet (literally) and talked about the risk-reward ratio of going barefoot, while strolling through stories of his foot-doctor family background.

We also reflected on the uncanny timing of our personal journeys—both going through divorces and landing in Boulder around the same time—only to now find ourselves rooted, thriving, and rarely leaving, almost like local legends who let the land lead.

This episode weaves together themes from recent guests—Alice from The Golden Hoof, Andre from Jacob Springs, and Sean the honey whisperer—into an idea: what if we hosted an immersive Boulder-based Breaking Normal retreat? Think: honey harvesting, bison butchering, cow and goat milking, wild fermentation, and radical connection.

A feast for the soul and stomach alike—tune in and taste what it means to live fermented, free, and fully alive.

Apply Here to Have My Children with Dustin Hogart from Wazoo Gear14 May 202501:17:35

We kicked off this episode by literally breaking into our studio—lock-picking our way inside with a crew of synchronicity and symbolism. It felt like a perfect metaphor for my life lately: sometimes, you’ve got to find another way in.Once we got rolling, the gifts began—Dustin bartered bear fat and a one-of-a-kind hand-selected stone necklace that’s not just jewelry, but a functional survival tool crafted from all-natural materials (shoutout to @wazoogear (https://www.instagram.com/wazoogear) and wazoogear.com (https://www.wazoogear.com)). I returned the love with some bison tallow from Tribe Vitamins, and we even cracked open caviar with our podcast producer.Somewhere in the middle, things got juicy: Dustin revealed that after our previous episode—where he declared his intention to find a wife and have as many children as possible—he followed through… by launching an actual application process on Instagram. And guess what? It worked. He’s now with a beautiful partner. This turned into a bit of a therapy session for me, as I faced my own reflections around that same desire—and what it means to own it publicly. We also explore:    •    His annual 100+ mile cruiser bike pilgrimage from Athens, GA    •    His upcoming European adventure guiding 15 high school grads with his best friends    •    The paradox of privilege used for purpose—how his upbringing gave him wings and how he’s flying with them    •    A powerful, tear-jerking segment about his mother’s passing, the speech of a lifetime he gave at her funeral, and the spiritual signs he’s received since. He shares his belief that she passed from a vaccine injury, and that moment marked his transition into manhood. This episode is wild, weird, touching, hilarious, and healing. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. Drop the Pack & Eat Roadkill with Donny Dust — Breaking Normal Podcast01 May 202501:18:08

In this wild, wisdom-packed episode, I sit down in person with modern caveman and primitive skills expert Donny Dust—surrounded by his handmade stone tools and a raw bison heart I brought from one of Tribe Vitamins’ regenerative suppliers. Using one of Donny's knives, we literally ate the heart together while recording. We scratched the surface of a lifetime of primal stories—bowhunting electric eels in the Amazon, chasing pigs in Hawaii with pit bulls, eating roadkill (on purpose), and the deep why behind hunting in the first place. Donny breaks down how facing nature head-on—especially in environments where you might be the prey—can radically shift your mindset, raise your testosterone, and reconnect you with something ancient. We also unpack the idea of “dropping the pack”—letting go of modern baggage to rise to new heights, both metaphorically and literally.Explore more at DonnyDust.com http://Www.DonnyDust.comGet your primal fuel at TribeVitamins.com (https://tribevitamins.com)This one is part firestarter, part field manual—and it might just make you want to eat a bison heart with your bare hands.

From a remote Himalayan village at 10,000 feet to building a bridge between two worlds — today’s conversation with Everest guide and Sherpa Chai founder Pemba Sherpa is a true testament to the human spirit.

Born without electricity and trekking three miles each way to school, Pemba’s early journey planted the seeds for an extraordinary life. After moving to the U.S., he opened Sherpa’s Adventure Restaurant in Boulder, serving his mother’s sacred chai recipe — which eventually helped fund a bridge in his home village, cutting that school journey down from hours to just 30 minutes.

We explore Pemba’s adventures as a global guide, entrepreneur, and bridge-builder — both literal and cultural. He shares why Sherpa Chai has become such a phenomenon, why helping those in need is the cornerstone of his happiness, and how staying rooted in simplicity fuels his joy.

We also dive into the idea of crafting tallow balm from Himalayan yak fat — a new frontier in bridging ancient traditions with modern wellness.

The truth about Tallow, Milk, & Liver With Andre from Jacob Springs Farm16 Apr 202501:07:37

Get the best Tallow & Liver at www.TribeVitamins.com

Get the best Raw Milk and reach out to Andre at www.JacobSprings.com

In this raw and real dialogue, Daniel visits Jacob Springs Farm—one of only three raw milk producers in Boulder County (alongside The Golden Hoof and Light Root)—to sit down with Andre, the farm’s wise and wildly humble steward. The result? A conversation that touches the core of what nourishes us, from the land up.

They explore:

    •    The truth about tallow: Why not all fat is created equal, and why Tribe Vitamins’ balm uses only bison kidney fat (suet)

    •    The power of raw milk from healthy, A2 family-raised cows—versus the tragically short life of commercial dairy cows

    •    Why your soil and water may matter just as much as your food label

    •    The difference between community-based food systems and capitalism’s tendency to corrupt the good

    •    What’s really going on with cheeses dipped in petroleum wax and yogurts cultured with genetically modified bacteria

    •    Why cheese, tallow, milk, and meat should all be rooted in relationships—not marketing

    •    And a surprise: the rare moment when Daniel meets someone with hands as big—or maybe even bigger—than his own

Andre may claim to “know nothing” of new-age concepts, but what he does know—soil, animals, truth, and stewardship—might just be exactly what the world needs more of.

Eggs, Meat, & Milk with Alice from The Golden Hoof12 Apr 202500:59:33

To connect with Alice or subscribe to her newsletter, visit: (https://www.thegoldenhoof.com)To explore Daniel’s favorite ancestral products: (https://www.tribevitamins.com)⸻What’s really behind the label “grass-fed”? Why do store-bought eggs all look the same? Can yogurt culture your gut and your soul? In this rich, grounded, and eye-opening conversation, Daniel sits down with Alice Starek of The Golden Hoof, a regenerative farm nestled right here in Boulder, Colorado.Alice shares what makes her eggs, milk, meat, and cheese so wildly different from what you’ll find on a store shelf—and what the ducks, cows, chickens, and even the local police have to do with it. (Spoiler: a concerned cop once showed up thinking the ducks were about to cross the road… they weren’t.)This episode transcends food labels and dives deep into the truth behind industrial food systems—from the petroleum-based waxes on American grocery store cheeses to the genetically modified bacteria used in commercial yogurt production. We explore the deeper meaning of food sovereignty and why Alice rarely leaves her farm—and why that’s exactly what makes her more alive and fulfilled than most people in the fast-paced modern world. We also talk:    •    Why not all “grass-fed” beef is what it seems    •    The difference between hay and fresh pasture    •    Why the variety of grasses cows eat may matter more than marketing claims    •    The sacred role of liver and tallow in nourishment and skincare    •    How to make your own probiotic-rich raw milk yogurt    •    And why, sometimes, the animals know better than the humansThis is more than a conversation—it’s a call back to the land, to real nourishment, and to remembering what food is meant to be.⸻Listen in, breathe deeper, eat closer to the earth—and maybe question every label you’ve ever trusted.#BreakingNormal #TheGoldenHoof #RawMilk #GrassFedTruth #PastureRaised #RealFoodRevolution #Tallow #LiverKingdom #FarmLife #BoulderRoots #TribeVitamins
