The outermost epidermis is responsible for producing new skin cells, protecting the body from unwanted substances, and retaining moisture to keep the skin well hydrated.

The middle dermis is responsible for supporting and strengthening the skin. It helps keep the skin moisturized and nourishes the epidermis. It also aids with fine sensations and helps regulate the skin temperature.

The innermost subcutaneous tissue insulates the body against changes in temperature and physical impacts. It gives the body its contoured shape and connects the skin to the internal organs. It also stores fat cells for energy and helps regulates the body temperature.

Your skin doesn’t just mark the boundary between you and your environment. It serves a critical health function, protecting you from disease and exposure. Love the skin your in!

Parched, wrinkled and a bit sad. Sounds like a lonesome raisin, but this what you might experience as you are transitioning through menopause.

The key hormone we're talking about is oestrogen. Oestrogen is essential for collagen synthesis, elasticity, hyaluronic acid synthesis and hydration,

When the oestrogen levels start to fluctuate during perimenopause, it can have a knock-on effect on your skin. If you’re stressed, your diet is out of whack, and your skin is feeling the effects of the colder weather, chances are you might be “inflammaging”. 

The beauty buzzword describes how an excess of inflammation – the body’s natural immune response to external aggressors – accelerates the skin’s ageing process (by reducing collagen production and inhibiting skin cells’ ability to renew and repair themselves). It’s more prevalent than you might think – and knowing how to combat it is key to achieving youthful, robust skin. 

Our bodies are clever and use inflammation as a way of signalling stress from the inside-out. External causes of inflammation can be hot or cold environments, sun damage, pollution, tobacco smoke and things like chemical irritants (detergents, shower gels and abrasive soaps). Internal causes include an unbalanced diet, stress and a lack of sleep. A number of skin conditions like acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea all have their roots in the inflammatory response. 

The good news is, today we are going to talk about the ways you can stop inflammaging. If you want to keep the inflammaging under control, it involves lifestyle changes over the long term. We may not have much control over environmental conditions that contribute to inflammation, but one of the most impactful things we can do to slow down the effects of aging is to follow these steps provided.

Skin cancer is very serious in Queensland and Liana feels it is SO important to make her story known because she wants to help others prevent getting skin cancer and understand how important skin cancer checks are. Skin cancer can happen to anyone at any age so it is important to keep an eye on your skin for suspicious moles or lesions. If in doubt, get it checked out. Not all skin cancers are the same and should only be diagnosed by medical professionals, doctors and dermatologists.
Liana tells you EVERYTHING you know to stay safe in the sun and how you can best prevent skin cancer. Start with applying SPF daily.

I am always passionate about skin health and more recently I have been finding myself educating my clients on how to improve their skin elasticity. I want to share the concept of skin elasticity, the crucial role collagen and elastin play, the factors that contribute to it’s changes and offer practical options for enhancing skin elasticity.

As you age, your skin begins to lose its natural plumpness because of a decrease in the production of collagen and elastin and hyaluronic acid. Collagen and elastin are the structural proteins found in the connective tissue of the skin’s dermis layer that give firmness and elasticity to your skin. This will result in loss of elasticity and lead to skin sagging, fine lines and wrinkles.

The great news is that skin elasticity can be improved. Although your elastin production is slowing down as you age, you can improve it by reducing your sun exposure, changing your lifestyle and using corrective skincare and preventative skin treatments.
