In order to avoid the gospels of sin management in our culture, we must have a view of the good news and the kingdom of God that transcends just going to heaven or simply being committed to social justice. We must have Jesus be our teacher. In doing so, we will be able to enter life in the kingdom of God, preparing us for eternity.

In our lead-off episode in the gospel series project, Daniel and I attempt to tackle the question, "What is the Gospel?" In this episode, Daniel and I start a short series on typology. To start, we discuss some of the problems we had with our template for prophecy growing up. This episode is meant to lay the table for a better way to view how the Old Testament is used in the New.

Buckle up because this one is weird!

Daniel and I continue the theme of what it means for the Bible to communicate in a particular time and place. Moving away from the Old Testament, we go to the New, seeing what awaits us there. In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul has a section many have scratched their head over for years. He is concerned with order in worship, authority, and marriage structure and oddly fixated on the length of people's hair. The answer to the last question will give us the keys to understanding his argument "from nature" for the rest of it.

As Daniel and I continue to look at how place and time affect communication, we look back to the first few pages of the Bible, examining how the ancient near east context informs what is being communicated in the creation story. With the help of John H. Walton, we hope to provide a richer interpretation.

In the last episode, Daniel and I reacted to the first half of a talk by Tim Mackie on the canonization of the Bible, focusing on the canonization of the Old Testament. In this half of the conversation, Daniel and I look at the textual strains of the Bible, how they are different, and why translators pick the words they do when putting the Hebrew canon into English. I also introduce a textual difference between the Masoretic and Septuagent texts that have large theological implications.
