Radio 5 came down to Griffin Park and did a fly on the wall documentary the season we won the Division 3 championship back in 1998/99.

And what a fascinating listen back it is. The new chairman was pumping money into Brentford to get them out of Division 3 .. and hopefully see them on their way to Division 1 ... it's taken the club another 16 years to get there ..

Ron Noades was Chairman and ManagerRay Lewington, Terry Bullivant and Brian Sparrow were the three coaches

The documentary takes us through that promotion season ... following the Beesotted crew on the terraces as they wrote songs about Martin Rowlands and told stories of chomp bars being banned by the police .... It goes into the dressing room for that ill fated FA Cup 2nd round game against Oldham - Chelsea the prize for the winner .. into the hospitality suite ... behind the scenes ...

Check it out ... there are some hilarious bits in there ...

And as Brentford fans looking back ... they seemed like wonderful days ... and we had a right laugh ... but in retrospect, we were being fed a duff cookie .... as a few years later, Noades looked to take us to the cleaners ....

It was a great pleasure for Beesotted to catch up with old friend ex-Brentford, Spurs and Falkirk keeper and Norwich goalkeeping coach Tony Parks before Brentford's big match at Carrow Road.

Tony harked back to his time at Brentford in the late 80s including the infamous FA cup 5th round victory up at Blackburn and 1/4 final match up at Anfield against Liverpool.

He also talks about his time at Falkirk - recalling stories like the Simon Stainrod poo-in-a-shoe tale ... and the confusion of Brentford fans coming up to see him and Richard Cadette .. including the B&Q cup final which Falkirk won 3-0

When his mum and dad almost caused a punch up at West Ham defending their son when Spurs played them.

He also recalls his time coaching at Spurs - telling the tale of when Uwe Rosler called him to get a character reference on a goalkeeper he wanted to buy - David Button.

And coming full circle - with Brentford and Norwich in the same league, Parks chats about how he feels Brentford have upped their game and reckons it should be a close game at the weekend.

Brentford CEO Mark Devlin believes that many clubs are charging fans too much money in the Championship.

Talking on the Beesotted weekly podcast, Devlin said he feels that £30 is the maximum price any fan should have to pay for a ticket in The Championship and is looking to bring this point up with the Football League in due course.

Norwich and Leeds recently announced prices of £35 and £34 respectively for away fans tickets for the visit of 'little olde Brentford'. Needless to say, this caused a bit of a stir.

Social media was alight with fans complaining they felt forced into making a decision to attend one or both games due to what was perceived by some as ludicrous prices.

These tweets summed up the feeling of resentment of fans having to fork out huge sums - particularly so soon after Christmas.

"Me mate - not paying that amount of money at Norwich for me and my boy.. its a £150 round trip"

"Was in two minds about both trips for me and my two boys. The ticket prices made my mind up for me."

"It's the cost of travelling as well - It all adds up - I know 5 lads who have season tickets that won't be going"

Strangely, some Norwich fans seemed to condone the idea of charging fellow football fans as much as possible which also sparked a debate in the studio.

"So long as the stadium is full, I say charge as much as possible."

"You don't have to go"

"Don't like it, don't come. Someone else will have the ticket"

Devlin questioned certain tactics employed by some clubs to extract the most money out of fans. Moving away fans to the most expensive part of the ground is one example - something Leeds have unfortunately been guilty of.

And when asked - how is it some clubs can justify charging £35 when clubs like Brentford and Bournemouth charge £10 less and are currently have as much or even more success on the pitch? - his reply was "Other clubs obviously have different systems to us".
