As you’ll learn through listening to our music, our riffs and how they “feel” are the backbone of our songs and sound. Most of our riffs are actually co-created, and are brought to life through process.

From riffs that were going to be tossed to finding new life, to randomly playing and stumbling on to something usable, to going back through the archives and rehashing old, forgotten riffs - tune in to hear about how we write riffs, and eventually piece them together into a song!

Elitists, gatekeepers, a$$ kissers, etc…in music?

In any aspect of life, you will find there are people who adopt the “holier than thou,” or “end all, be all” mindset. Is it ego driven? Some sort of complex? What may it be? To each their own I guess.

We are never really sure where this comes from or why they feel this entitlement, but for some reason, it happens - including in the music scene.

When people ask what we sound like, this is the release we tell them to check out.

Full fledged aggression and angst, this release is, in our opinion, our BEST. The emotion captured in our “Double-Single” release is what makes us so proud of it.

The release features a song that first got radio play, the show that got us into Summerfest, and an odd riff that was inspired by J-Lo and is also our toughest critics’ favorite song. We experimented with even lower tunings, guitar vocals, and a baritone guitar. The artwork that was 100% DIY earned a tattoo, and portrayed the album vibe and atmosphere so well.

Local music is a wonderful thing. It allows us to not only express ourselves and entertain, but you meet so many great people, and create lifelong bonds and connections throughout your journey.

We met Justin (aka The Trembling Giant) at one of our favorite local venues’ “Thirsty Thursday Series” acoustic nights. His folk-punk/alternative style was super cool and refreshing, and really was a welcomed surprise that he played mostly originals. If you’ve kept up with our past readings, you know that locally, there are not many original-music based bands.

Micromanager was the first release as an OFFICIAL 2-piece, as many of the songs off the previous album were written with a third member in mind for ideas.

The release contained some darkness, as it was our first endeavor after the traumatic experiences that took place during the Sinner-era.

This release was also our first release as a new, 2-piece band. We talk about how the songs came to be, the process (or lack of) of being unprepared, what NOT TO DO from our experiences, and more.

Mile 134 has always been a 2-piece.

Briefly under a “separate name,” we were once actually a 3-piece. Having experience with each variation of members, there are pros and cons to both.

The logistics of scheduling and working with two people versus three is a definite bonus. You’d think that two people would have less gear than three - not in our case. Three people usually make more sound…the list could go on and on.

We’ve had shows that have featured special guest musicians who have almost always been bassists. These shows were always eye opening and fun, and definitely sparked interest into adding a third member.

Playing covers was how we got our start and got our name out there. We started finding covers we like and implementing those into our sets to see what we could get away with. We started getting recognized for our variety and cover choices - this “curse” has since haunted us.

We get asked to play many shows, and we have to clarify, “Do you want originals, covers, both, or unplugged?” Yeah, we offer a lot of “customization” which has been a great and terrible thing.

At times, learning covers and practicing them for shows has taken the “fun” and creativity out of our music, and in turn, has delayed our writing processes and releasing new tunes. We’ve also experience burnout from playing immense amount of 4-hour cover shows every weekend - sometimes twice a weekend.

However, there are definitely some benefits ($$$, exposure, and so on) from playing covers. Tune in to hear our thoughts on cover shows!

Looking back, I don’t think any of our musical releases were ever recorded in the same style or manner. From live-tracking, to click tracks, to programmed drums and guitars, to DIY home studio recordings, we’ve done it all.

Tune in to hear what has worked for us, and the experiences in every scenario. We dive into each session we have done in the past, and breakdown the pros and cons of each method. Towards the end, we provide KEY tips - regardless of what method you choose - on studio time, recording, and music in general.

Every musician is going to record differently and what works for one musician or band may not work for another - this is just our take.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Introduction Episode of our new endeavor called, “The Backline Podcast.”

This is something that we have talked about - especially on our Twitch channel - for quite some time. We finally decided we just need to DO IT and stop waiting around for the “right” time.

Substack has been such a cool platform to experience and express with our writings, that when we found out they had a podcasting platform as well, we took advantage!

You are DEFINITELY going to want to follow/subscribe to our Podbean or Substack account, as that is where we will post the majority of our podcasts. We also will use these platforms to distribute to sites such as Spotify, Apple, and so on.

We’ve already got 3 episodes recorded and are in the finalizing steps. This podcast talks about everything music related, but also everything not music related. Some of it will go hand in hand with our writings on Substack (though much more entertaining) and some will be totally different.

We’ve got guests lined up as well, and are super excited about this journey as well.

We are going to try to keep The Backline Podcast seperate from Mile 134, but wanted to give you all a first glance on here. In all honesty, it may be hard to keep our podcast separate from Mile 134, as music has been, and will continue to be such a huge part of our lives. With that being said, be prepared for podcast topics that are all over the place!
