Non-Mount Rushmore Top 4: Hair Bands06 Sep 202402:10:16
The Kousins made a Top 4 list that somehow wasn't a "Mount Rushmore" list. Each Kousin picked their top 4 Hair Metal bands. Well, sort of. Three of the Kousins did; one did something a little different. Each entry got two songs played, and there were controversies throughout, but the episode was a lot of fun. The lists weren't consolidated to form a proper Top 4, though. Calls from Jim From Irwin, Eugene B Sims, Bruno From Sunny South Africa, and Jem From Alabama. No "Now Listenings" because there were already a lot of songs. What are your top four Hair Metal bands? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. We have Instagram and Twitter. Non-Makeup KISS Songs30 Aug 202401:56:49
The latest Kousins Top 10 episode is all about "non-makeup" KISS albums. In this episode, the Kousins give their individual Top 10 of songs from Lick It Up (1983), Animalize (1984), Asylum (1985), Crazy Nights (1987), Hot in the Shade (1989), Revenge (1992), and Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions (1997). The ranking was weighted by number and put into a spreadsheet, and a few computations later, we had a collective Top Ten (or in this case, thirteen). Some may surprise you, but hey, this is the Kousins; it probably won't. There were three ties that were thrown to the "Extended Asylum Family" to break. All four gave their "Now Listenings." Calls from Jim From Irwin, Bruno From Sunny South Africa, and Eugene B Sims. What would your top ten songs be from 1983-1997? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. We have Instagram and Twitter. Extended Now Listening – The June 2024 Edition14 Jun 202401:32:40
Kousin Ray couldn't be on because he was on co-pilot duty with the wife, so the OG Kousins decided to do an Extended Now Listening; what Kousin Tim is calling XLNL (Extra Large Now Listening). Some first-time listens for some of the Kousins and some groovy tunes. Calls from Jem From Alabama, Bruno From Sunny South Africa, and Jim From Irwin. What have you been listening to lately? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. We have Instagram and Twitter. The Opening Act: Whitesnake — Whitesnake (’87)01 Apr 202201:42:20
©Geffen Records The Kousins and Roadie Ray (he kept the position just reverted the name) do an Opening Act show, being the first podcast of the month (yes it's still March but the last day): Whitesnake ('87). It gets the "Listening Party" treatment and Kousin Gary gives you more info about John Sykes (the guitarist on the album) than you'd ever want to know. He crushed so hard we think John Corabi is getting jealous. Also, the Kousins+1 give what they've been listening to this week for your consideration. What do you think of the Whitesnake album? Does it still hold up? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. Dressed to Kill (Redux)25 Mar 202201:41:00
©Casablanca The Kousins and Road Manager Ray talk about KISS' third studio album, the one that possibly set the band up to continue as it was the tour that led to Alive! which is the one that gave the world Rock and Roll All Nite. The album gets the "Listening Party" treatment. Kousin Tim has never been shy about his disdain for the album in general but loves a few songs. Have his tastes changed? Does he feel different about it? Also, the Kousins+1 give what they've been listening to this week for your consideration. We go through the album and give our opinions, facts, and figures on it. All the Kousins and RMR talk about their "now listening" tunes and why. Alive II (Redux)11 Mar 202202:01:35
©Casablanca The Kousins (well two of the three - Kousin Marvin is absent) welcome listener Nick Provenzano on to talk about KISS' second "live" album, Alive II. We give it the "Listening Party" treatment that it didn't get the first time we listened through. We go through the album (all 20 songs) and give our opinions, facts, and figures on it. Whether we make up any of that or not! Nick gives his "now listening" tunes and why, as do Kousin Tim and Kousin Gary. Have your feelings about Alive II changed over the years? The Opening Act: Rush — Moving Pictures04 Mar 202201:34:55
©Mercury Records The Kousins bring a new monthly series to the Asylum: The Opening Act. KISS has had a lot of big-name acts open for them on their own road to stardom. We want to highlight some of those. The inaugural chapter of this is one of the first bands to open for KISS, on and off, 1974-1976. We dive into Rush's 1981 album, Moving Pictures, which celebrated its 41st anniversary in February. We give it the "listening party" treatment and the only regret that we had was that Roadie Ray wasn't with us. Listen in for our critique. How does Rush's "Moving Pictures" rate with you? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. We have Instagram and Twitter. Creatures Fest25 Feb 202201:46:32
©Creatures Fest The Kousins and Road Manager Ray welcome the first non-"family" (blood or otherwise) guest to the show. Jay Jadofsky, one of the organizers for Creatures Fest, joins to discuss the event. What is Creatures Fest? It is the only KISS-themed event outside KISS Kruise that will happen this year, with the "holy trinity" of KISS guitarists, Ace Frehley, Vinnie Vincent, and Bruce Kulick at one festival, plus Peter Criss. There are a plethora of other bands going to be there, to help celebrate the KISS family. Jay talks about the festival, his KISStory, and KISS in general. Learn more by visiting CreaturesFest.com. Asylum (Redux)18 Feb 202201:18:51
©Mercury The Kousins listen to the album that is the namesake of the podcast, 1985's Klassic, "Asylum." Of course, it features the Kousins' favorite KISS lineup (collectively) with Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr, has what Kousin Tim calls two of KISS' best songs, makeup era or non-makeup era, and we dive a little deeper checking out things we may not have known the first time we listened to it. What do you think of this album? Is it King of the Mountain or Secretly Cruel? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). Hot in the Shade (Redux)11 Feb 202201:46:42
©Mercury The Kousins are joined by Road Manager Ray (catchy new name, there) and revisit the 1989 Klassic(?) "Hot in the Shade" in the "listening party format." Kousin Tim ranked it pretty low on his list, Kousin Marvin and Kousin Gary rank it respectably and Road Manager Ray really liked it. How did their feelings change after the initial rankings and how do they feel about the songs? Kousin Tim has a Kissfession. How do you feel about Hot in the Shade? The Should-Have-Beens04 Feb 202201:52:12
The Kousins listen to their own curated compilation of songs they think should have been released as singles but were not. Some would have been cool to have been singles but some are just plain shameful that they weren't. The rule is the song couldn't have been released as a single, but B-Sides are okay. Also, Roadie Ray news... Which "deep-cut" KISS songs would you like to see released? Want to join the conversation? Album Gladiator Showdown – The Number of the Beast vs. Piece of Mind07 Jun 2024
For the first time ever, we have an outsider coming in to challenge a Kousin in an Album Gladiator Showdown. Steve Wright from Podder Than Hell and I Remember Now - The Queensrÿche Podcast comes in to challenge Kousin Marvin to a duel. And they used Iron Maiden as their gladiators. Steve wielded the power of Maiden's third album, the first with Bruce Dickinson, 1982's The Number of the Beast. Kousin Marvin took the reins of that album's follow-up, 1983's Piece of Mind. It is epic! To reiterate the rules: Each combatant has two in-round deferrals. After a coin flip, the winner can either go first or defer their pick (not counted in their in-round deferrals). The first picker chooses their "gladiator" or song for battle. After a short listen, the opposing picker chooses the song (or gladiator) to battle the round's opening song. The other two Kousins (or, in this case, three) then vote for the winner. The two pickers can change their vote if they choose to, as well. Whichever song has the most votes... wins. If there's a tie, it goes to Twitter (or "X" as it's known now) for tiebreaker votes. If that doesn't make sense, just give it a listen, and it will become as clear as mud. There was no "Now Listening" because of the length of the impending battle. Kousin Marvin "Let Us Know." Calls from Jim From Irwin, Nick Provenzano From San Francisco, and Jem From Alabama. How would your Iron Maiden gladiators fare? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. We have Instagram and Twitter. We would appreciate a like, rating, and review. Subscribe and follow! Lzzy Hale with Skid Row/Sebastian Bach’s “Child Within the Man”31 May 2024
As is the case every time Skid Row announces someone fronting the band, Sebastian Bach starts stomping, b*tching, pissing, and moaning about them not asking him to come back. Perhaps that is why, Bas? Perhaps that is why. Anyway, Skid Row's lead singer, Erik Grönwall, had to back out of the band to complete his treatment against leukemia, but the band had obligations. So, they turned to a total badass and fan of the band, Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, to fill in for a few dates. She isn't the replacement singer for Grönwall; she is just filling in until a new singer is found.  Lzzy and Bas were friends and had performed together at least once. After this was announced, Bas turned whiney and moany and unfriended/unfollowed Lzzy for just getting to fulfill a dream. Earlier this month, Sebastian Bach released a new solo record called Child Within the Man. Kousin Gary suggested we give it a listen, at least partly. We listened to Bas/Lzzy from 2013. We listened to four Lzzy-led Skids songs, and three Bas songs from the new album. An email from Jim From Irwin, a call from Jem From Alabama. All four Kousins gave their "Now Listenings." Have you seen the videos of Lzzy with Skid Row? What did you think? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). The Bon Jovi List17 May 202402:31:12
There's a relatively new docuseries on Hulu about Bon Jovi, specifically Jon Bon Jovi. It covers his career, the band's career, the ups and downs, the losses and gains, and his voice problem (among other things). We had talked (off-air) about how bad he had been sounding and that docuseries Thank You, Goodnight, The Bon Jovi Story filled in many holes. The Kousins all had various levels of fandom, with one member, particularly into them, and it may be the one you'd expect the least. The Kousins sent in their Top 10 Bon Jovi songs. They were put through a tally, and the top 15ish showed up. An at-large tiebreaker was called for, and our closest chosen family - our listeners - was that tiebreaker. With help from Eugene B Sims, Jem From Alabama, Jim From Irwin, Nick Provenzano from San Francisco, Ray's Steve, and Bruno from Sunny South Africa, all chipped in and broke yon ties (to some extent). Some were more excited than others, we'll say. The Top Ten (or Twelve) were then presented. The four Kousins gave their "Now Listenings." Calls from Eugene B Sims, Jem From Alabama, Bruno From Sunny South Africa, and Jim From Irwin. What are your favorite Bon Jovi songs? Did you watch the docuseries?
