Kelsey Howard: Stretch, Sketch, Paint27 Aug 202400:42:00

I️ hope you enjoy today's episode with Kelsey Howard. Learn more about Kelsey in her own words below.

I was born and raised in Wilmington, NC. After graduating from Elon University in 2014 with an art major and biology minor, I attended UNC- Greensboro and became a registered nurse. While I had made art for many years, I became much more invested in painting as I grew in my first year as a nurse.  Sitting in front of an easel after a day of work brought me a lot of joy and relaxation.

The first subject I truly loved to paint was the human face. My initial interest started when I was probably 11 or 12 years old and began as an interest in anatomy. My style eventually developed into a love of using bright colors while working in more subtle colors, textures, and details. After a few years working as a registered nurse, I left to pursue painting full time and currently work out of an at home studio. When I’m not painting, you’ll usually find me walking at the beach or a local park near our neighborhood. I love to gather artistic inspiration from traveling and nature. My husband and I currently live in Wilmington, NC with our two dogs, a cat, and a lot of plants.

Lynn Sanders: Sticking to Your Core Competencies25 Jun 202400:53:24

Enjoy today's episode with Lynn Sanders.

Lynn Sanders is an artist excited by beauty: architecture, foliage, landscapes, seascapes,
interiors. She finds palettes and shapes in her environment and propels them into her
work, believing in the power of art to stimulate a person’s environment and state of mind.

Intuitive in nature, Lynn’s painting process is chaotic, and its speed and intensity are often
reflective of her current emotions. She begins her process using a tool that she designed to
apply custom colors mixed with various mediums to the canvas. Working primarily in
acrylics, acrylic mediums, and ink, she achieves chemical reactions that enhance the
composition. Her tool allows her to apply the paint at a pace that reflects her impatient
nature. This process achieves deep tones layered with transparent shapes. Her long
relationship with this application technique has allowed her to develop an innate
understanding of the precise amount of pressure and paint needed to achieve her
signature aesthetic.

With a focus on process over concept, Lynn’s pieces invite the viewer to ponder the
technique and imagery. Her satisfaction comes from knowing that her pieces speak her
own unique visual language.

Lynn resides in Lafayette, Louisiana with her husband and son, as well as her beloved pets.

Prior to her art career Lynn spent 16 years in the shopping mall industry as a marketing
director, general manager and temporary tenant leasing agent. She worked for large
property owners – Jones Lang Lasalle, General Growth Properties and Debartolo
Corporation.

Erin Donahue Tice on Understanding Your Customer, Market, and Style11 Jun 202400:59:01

Enjoy today's episode with Erin Donahue Tice.

Erin Donahue Tice is a self-taught abstract artist based in Austin, Texas creating original paintings for inspired collectors across the country. In 2023 she launched her debut collection of textiles and wallpaper. Her work has been featured in House Beautiful, Better Homes & Gardens, Traditional Home, Southern Home and Luxe Magazine.

Following a 12-year career in corporate PR, Erin started painting after the birth of her second son as both a creative and therapeutic outlet.

Erin's medium of choice is acrylics but she also experiments with mixed mediums. She is drawn to the object nature of abstract art and loves the free-flowing experience of creating something unexpected. From far away, her canvases appear to have sharp lines, yet upon closer inspection, the viewer discovers delicate marks and subtle shadows that gives each piece interest. There is almost always an undercurrent of both black and white within Erin’s pieces, which offers balance amid a mostly colorful visual experience. And every now and then, color is stripped completely to offer a stripped-down neutral palette and sense of calmness, reflective of the more serene experiences in my life.

Erin challenges herself by playing around with different elements, from layering paper, foam and cardboard onto canvases, to using acrylics, gouache, oil pastels, markers and charcoal to bring her pieces to life. She especially loves the process of marrying interior design with art and is passionate about working hand-in-hand with designers and clients alike to create a statement.

Erin also draws inspiration from her "happy place," The Hamptons, where she has spent her summers since 2010. She resides in Austin, TX with her husband Bill and their three little boys, William, George and Andrew.

Steph Blondet on Reels, Balance and Burnout04 Jun 202400:39:17

Enjoy today's interview with Steph Blondet where we cover viral growth on reels, balance, and overcoming burnout. Steph Blondet is a Puerto Rican artist based in Tampa, FL. Blondet creates textured and sculptural paintings as a form of visual journaling, through which she processes memories and experiences from childhood into adulthood. In her work, Blondet explores themes of personal growth, grief, and the societal pressures placed on women. She creates intuitively and communicates her story through color, form, and composition to reflect the duality of the human experience, and to convey that through darkness there will always be light.

Alex Farkas of UGallery I️ What it Takes to Start, Run, and Work With an Online Art Gallery28 May 202400:41:30

Enjoy today's informative episode with Alex Farkas of UGallery. Alex enjoyed a small town childhood in the old mining town of Jerome, Arizona - there were more ghosts than residents and the arts community thrived. It was his mother's ceramic studio and gallery that first nurtured Alex's taste in art. He spent his early years carving wood sculptures, exploring abandoned buildings, and avoiding the rattlesnakes and centipedes under every rock.

At the University of Arizona, Alex loved studying art history and sculpture, and he also enrolled in the Entrepreneurship program. It was here he realized he could combine the two worlds of art and business. Graduating in 2006, Alex launched UGallery using his entire savings. After a few years, he packed up a truck and moved to San Francisco to join its vibrant art market. After almost 15 years in San Francisco, he moved to Amsterdam where he runs the business today.

Alex has curated the UGallery portfolio since its inception, hosted booths at the New York Affordable Art Fair for over 8 years, and seen UGallery featured in dozens of publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, and TechCrunch.

UGallery is a curated online gallery offering a unique selection of heirloom-quality artwork from both emerging and established artists. Founded by Gallery Director Alex Farkas in 2006, UGallery has developed a loyal following of art collectors, artists, and interior designers in all 50 states and over 50 countries.
