Send us a text

In this Spotlight episode I’m shining the spotlight on one of my BBA students, Corrie Scott - owner of Taylor Made Bookkeeping Solutions. Get ready to be inspired and empowered as we dive into the world of efficient onboarding systems and work-life balance in the realm of bookkeeping.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • benefits & challenges of using Dubsado for onboarding clients

  • challenges of running a solo firm without burning out
  • proposal process, including steps for reviewing, approving, sending, adding contracts, generating invoices, and sending confirmation and intake emails
  • collaboration with Linden Square Co for personalized client gifts

Resources mentioned in this episode:

Meet Corrie
Corrie started fresh out of college as a teacher. She taught for one year but they did not renew her contract so she subbed the next year. Subs don't make a lot of money, and no money during the summer, so this job became available doing accounting work at a local factory and 6 years later she was still doing accounting. She fell in love with the profession. 4 years into that career, she talked with one of her friends who stayed home with her kids but had her own bookkeeping business. She guided Corrie in the steps and certifications and after having her 1st daughter (2nd child), she opened Taylor Made Bookkeeping Solutions (Dec 2021). In September of 2023, she quit that full time job after having her 2nd daughter (3rd child) and now she runs a solo firm with 22 clients and stays home with 3 kids :)

62 ⎸ Starting a Bookkeeping Biz in 2022: Should you contract with another firm?17 Aug 202200:19:41

Send us a text

I recently connected with someone online who wants to start her bookkeeping business in the future, but still needs to build some skills. I also had a request a while back from someone in my DMs about covering the topic of contracting with other firms, CPAs, or bookkeepers. So in today’s episode, I’m going to cover just that: the upsides and the downsides, but also…. what you need to know about starting a Bookkeeping Business in 2022.

So if you find yourself wondering should I contract with a more established firm to gain experience or even just to supplement revenue, keep on listening. This one is for you.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • 3 Main things I would do differently if I started all over
  • Upsides to being a contractor for another bookkeeper
  • Downsides to being a contractor
  • Referral partnerships

If you've been in our space for even just a little bit, you've probably heard of my guest from today. His name is Blake Oliver. He is the cohost of the cloud accounting podcast. He is the founder of earmark CPE. He is the Accounting Community Advocate for Relay Bank. And I finally have him on my podcast today to talk about his entire journey.

48 ⎸ Be a Digital CEO with James Wedmore11 May 202201:04:24

Send us a text

For 10 years, James Wedmore taught entrepreneurs and online business owners how to leverage the power of online video and YouTube marketing to reach more people, share their message and convert more customers. In 2016, James made a massive shift to focus on a big gap missing in the marketplace: the mindset needed for entrepreneurship. He launched a totally woo-woo podcast, the Mind Your Business Podcast and his signature program, Business By Design. Today he helps coaches, experts, content creators, and authors not only to craft better marketing messages but also how to ditch the “hustle” mentality and create success from the inside out.

James and his program, Business By Design were instrumental in me launching and growing The Ambitious Bookkeeper programs to what they are today. If you like my teaching style, I think you’ll love his, too!

Listen to this episode to learn:

  • how to become a digital CEO (and what that is)
  • how to bring more value to your clients (from the mouth of a multi-million dollar CEO himself
  • how to get started offering digital products (like courses or group programs)
  • and more

This is a continuation of a series I’m putting together around creating courses, as so many people in our community have asked about creating courses. These women bring real solid not-sugar coated advice about creating courses.

I’m honored to have these women on the podcast and being able to provide more perspective. I’m linking all of their info in the shownotes for this episode so you can connect with them and their programs.

Send us a text

On today’s interview episode, I have a special guest on to talk about creating content, podcasting, and standing out as who you are.

Even if you aren’t interested in starting a podcast, I know you’ll have a few takeaways from this episodes and get ideas on how YOU can start to stand out online.

Here are some of the things we talked about:

  • getting comfortable hearing your voice on a podcast
  • what holds most people back from just starting
  • letting go of perfection when creating content

And since she’s a business owner, I asked her what she thought is important in a bookkeeper, and this part of the conversation will be gold for you.

39 ⎸ Accounting + Human Design with Laura Torma09 Mar 202200:43:51

Send us a text

In this interview episode this week, I am interviewing one of my very first students of the bookkeeping business accelerator, but we do kind of talk about the beginning of us meeting. However, what I did bring this special guest on today to talk about is

  1. burnout
  2. boundaries
  3. using your intuition
  4. how to incorporate your human design into how you exist in your business and in life.

Our guest, Laura Torma, previously known as Laura Watson, the number's nomad, is an intuitive life and business strategist.

She used to be a CPA who worked with countless clients and accountants, and she has taken her experience and melded it with spiritual systems, such as human design to help all people come into the gift of who they are.

I am so excited to have you listening to this conversation with Laura, and I hope that you take away something, if not, lots of things from this episode.

[BONUS] Bookkeeper Spotlights20 Feb 202200:37:31

Send us a text

Hey Ambitious Bookkeepers! Today we're dropping a special Bonus episode to help inspire you if you're new to the thought of starting your own business, or you've recently made the decision to. A couple times a year, we open The Bookkeeping Biz Workshops — a workshop series just for those who are wanting to start or who have recently started their businesses. After the workshops are over, I usually bring in a few bookkeepers who I've worked with either in the Workshops or In The Accelerator program I have and I interview them about their journey of starting their businesses.

I've never shared these outside of the workshops, so as a podcast listener, you're getting a sneak peak into what you might experience inside of the workshops or my other programs.

I hope these interviews inspire you to take action—in whatever way that is, big or small: deciding to quit your job, or even just declaring that you will start your business and joining us in the upcoming workshops.

Like I said, these are interviews from the last round of workshops in 2021, so if you want to hear the new stories that will be showcased in this new round, make sure you sign up.

First I'll be interviewing Erin Pohan, an accountant, mom, and the owner of Upkeeping.

Next you're going to hear from Misa, who was in my very first cohort of BBA, when it was a brand new program. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for my first cohort, as they've been along for the ride since the beginning. And as you'll hear from both ladies, the community we've built is one of the best parts.

I hope these interviews inspire you as much as they do me, and their words of wisdom help you in some way.
