In Part 2 of the spooky October Sessions entitled "Bigfoot Beyond the Blue Line" I speak with investigative researcher, author, and Whitehall, NY native, Paul Bartholomew, about his research and 40 years of experience studying Bigfoot and other unexplained phenomena both in the Adirondacks, upstate New York, Vermont and beyond. A fascinating man with so much to say on this subject.

69.) ADK Campfire Stories: The Nye Wolf09 Oct 202000:26:21
In the twilight, as the sun starts to dip behind the mountains, and its golden light kisses the surrounding summits, darkness engulfs the valleys below. The sounds of the forest awaken as the moon rises and a wailing can be heard for miles. A distinctive wailing that to some, may just sound like the wind in the trees…but it’s something more. Something sinister. But sometimes one wrong step down one wrong path is all it takes to find yourself face to face…with the Nye Wolf.

68.) Summit Sessions #16: Leave No Trace with Monika & David from LNT08 Oct 202001:09:16
In this Columbus Day Weekend Summit Session special I had the honor of speaking with Monika and David from the Leave No Trace organization all about the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace, LNT consulting in the Adirondack Park, and even went on a "virtual" hike up Mt Marcy to put those 7 principles to practice out on the trail.

This was a fun episode filled with information on how to responsibly and respectfully venture into the outdoors.

67.) The October Sessions: Bigfoot in the Blue Line- with Devin Peterson02 Oct 202001:30:29
It's October and that means it's time to have some spooky fun here in the outdoors of the Adirondack Mountains. This is an episode I've wanted to do for a long time, Bigfoot in the Blue Line. The Blue Line is another nickname for the Adirondacks and in this week's October Session I'll hear a possible Bigfoot encounter from longtime outdoorsman and NYS Guide, Devin Peterson, and we'll discuss his encounter, and read and discuss many other reported encounters from right here inside the Blue Line. A perfect episode for a chilly, spooky, Autumn night.

66.) Summit Sessions #15: Hiking With Kids with Allison Cascade Kozel25 Sep 202000:49:29
In this Summit Session episode I'll speak with licenced Adirondack Guide, Allison Cascade Kozel, and we'll discuss all the tips and tricks she has learned over the years guiding families with kids out on the trail. Allison also started hiking in the Adirondack high peaks when she was just five years old and became an ADK 46'er a mere two weeks after her 13'th birthday; so she brings a unique perspective and experience level to this episode, having hiked both with kids and as a kid.

As a father who loves to hike with his two young daughters I can say hiking with them can be one of the greatest experiences possible and I hope this episode helps you get out on the trails with your own kids. It can feel like a daunting task, but start small and work your way up. If you're planning to hike with young kids for the first time you'll want to take notes because Allison shares incredible insight on how to have a successful hike with kids.

65.) The Soda Range: Injured on the Nun-Da-Ga-O Ridge18 Sep 202000:48:20
The Soda Range. This 6-mile loop ridge trail definitely qualifies as a "less traveled trail" in the Adirondack Park and what was supposed to be a quick, simple, afternoon hike on a trail I'd yet to experience, turned into the single most painful and hardest day I've ever experienced in the woods. Regardless of my situation out there however, it really is a great little trail.

64.) Summit Sessions #14: The FKT Support Crew with Jay Whitbourne04 Sep 202001:20:36
In this week's follow up to last week's Supported FKT Attempt episode with Adirondack native and LaSportiva athlete, Sarah Keyes, I'll speak with the head of Sarah's support crew, Jay Whitbourne, and find out everything that went on behind-the-scenes as Sarah hiked all 46 high peaks of the Adirondacks in under five days during her Supported FKT attempt. What her crew did during this attempt is equally as impressive and interesting. If you haven't heard Sarah Keyes episode yet check that out first then circle back to this one for the entire story.

Going camping soon? Great! You'll need some delicious and convenient coffee for the mornings at your campsite. The new Steeped Packs from Recess Coffee are perfect for this scenario. In this special 2-part Summit Sessions I will be speaking to Alyssa Godesky (Part 1) and Sarah Keyes (Part 2) individually less than a week removed after the two of them both set out into the High Peaks on a friendly "race" as they both sought to set the Supported Fastest Known Time (FKT) of the 46 High Peaks of the Adirondacks. 61.) The Great Range Traverse: 10 Mountains, 8 High Peaks, 1 Day21 Aug 202001:09:57
After backpacking the 138 mile Northville-Placid Trail it was time to get back on top of some mountains and what better hike to tackle on Independence Day than what backpacker.com ranks as the #3 "Hardest Day Hike in America", The Great Range Traverse. Ten mountains, eight high peaks, 21 miles, 8000' of gain, and 17,000' of elevation change on the Goliath of all Adirondack hikes. A defining day for any Adirondack hiker.

60.) Summit Sessions #12: The Unsupported FKT Attempt with Jonathan Zaharek14 Aug 202001:51:53
This week on The 46 of 46 Podcast Summit Sessions I'll sit down in the studio with my friend and frequent hiking partner Jonathan Zaharek who was only 24 hours removed from his FKT (Fastest Known Time) attempt at the Unsupported thruhike record of the 46 High Peaks here in the Adirondack Park. This is an episode you will not want to miss as Jonathan breaks down his attempt, his planning, the good, the bad, and the unusual as he sought to hike all 46 high peaks unsupported and solo in under 4 days.
59.) Northville-Placid Trail: Day 8- Silver Lake to Northville: The Final Day07 Aug 202000:54:59
Day 8 and my final day on the Northville Placid Trail. The longest mileage to date at 24.5 miles was the only thing that stood between me and my goal of completing the NPT. The final day is finally here.

Day 7 and I'm back at the Piseco Route 8 road crossing to begin my final 2-day section to Northville. I'll have new hiking partners coming along the journey on this final 40 mile stretch to Northville to complete my NPT journey. Tonight's destination will have us camping at the fina lean-to on the trail at beautiful Silver Lake. On top of new friends this section will bring more new things into the mix, fully bloomed leaves in the forest, and bugs...So. Many. Bugs.

57.) Northville-Placid Trail: Day 6- Spruce Lake #3 to Piseco24 Jul 202000:24:03
Day 6 would complete this 2-day section and bring Jonathan and I from Spruce Lake to the town of Piseco on one of my shortest days on the trail at only 14 miles. A terrific hike as we continue southbound past Spruce Lake and a some tent campsites, to the "Future Headquarters Bob and Matt Campwood" sign at the Cold Stream, and finishing with the road walk in Piseco. Today's journey will mark 100 miles completed here on my Northville-Placid Trail Journey.

56.) Northville-Placid Trail: Day 5- Wakely Dam to Spruce Lake #317 Jul 202000:44:23
Day 5. The first day of my third section here on the NPT. This two-day section will have me hiking with a new partner, Jonathan Zaharek, where today we'll go 24 miles from Wakely Dam at the Moose River Recreation Area southbound to Spruce Lake #3. I'll discover one of my favorite sections of the trail here, as well as my most challenging stretch of the entire trail (where 100 yards took us 40 minutes to traverse) as I flip-flop the NPT map and begin hiking the second half of this infamous Adirondack trail southbound.

Day 4 on the Northville-Placid Trail and the only day hike on my journey as I section this trail over the course of a month. Today's trail will be quite different from what Josh and I experienced on our first section as we traverse northbound from Wakely Dam to Lake Durant.

54.) Northville-Placid Trail: Day 3- Cold River #2 to Lake Placid03 Jul 202000:29:16
Day 3 on the Northville-Placid Trail will take Josh and I home to Lake Placid from the Cold River Lean-To #2 and complete our first section of the NPT. The day was supposed to be an easier 13-mile day but turned into the most physically and mentally draining day of the entire section. Winter, you can go away anytime now! After today I'm well over 50 miles into the NPT with much more hiking still to come.

53.) Northville-Placid Trail: Day 2- Kelly Point to Cold River #226 Jun 202000:47:58
Day 2 on the Northville-Placid Trail will have Josh and I planning to hike from Kelly Point to Duck Hole, but due to a waking up covered in two inches of snow and a winter wonderland at the Kelly Point Lean-To's, along with a slight mileage miscalculation along with slower winter conditions we called an audible and hiked to Cold River Lean-To #2 here on day 2 of our first section of the NPT.

52.) Northville-Placid Trail: Day 1- Lake Durant to Kelly Point19 Jun 202000:47:58
The Northville-Placid Trail is a 138-mile backpacking trail through the Adirondack Park and this season of The 46 of 46 Podcast is going to take you on the journey with me all 138 miles. I sectioned the trail and each episode will take the listener through every day on the trail with eight episodes chronicling all eight days. Created in 2013 the Trans Adirondack Route traverses from the top of the 6-million acre Adirondack Park to the bottom over the course of 235 miles through the most remote backcountry in the Park. On this Summit Session I speak with the Fastest Known Time holder Marilyne Marchand about her experience hiking the TransADK Route and we will break it down day by day from start to finish. Grab your map and guide book and follow along as we go northbound along this rugged route known to some as the "Triple Crown Killer".

49.) Summit Sessions #9: Becoming a 46'er in One Year from 350 Miles Away with John LaFarnara29 May 202002:22:14
In this Summit Session I'll speak in depth with John LaFarnara, a Buffalo, NY native, about his entire journey becoming an Adirondack 46'er in a single year while living 350 miles away from the Adirondack High Peaks. John's 46'er journey dealt him punch after punch but he persevered and kept moving forward despite many set backs, moving both literally and figuratively one step at a time to accomplish his goal. An awesome story of what a person can do when they set a goal, create a plan with a deadline, and won't quit until they succeed.
48.) The Pitchoff Traverse: Exploring An Old Mountain in a New Way22 May 202000:28:17
Pitchoff Mountain is a part of the Adirondack 100 Highest List and is a mountain I've hiked numerous times. This day however in an attempt to see this peak from a new perspective I climbed up via a trail I've never explored and it turned out to be better than I could have ever expected. Sometimes taking the trails-less-traveled will reward you in a big way.
47.) Summit Sessions #8: An Unexpected Overnight in the Santanonis with Jay Morrison15 May 202001:40:22
When hiking in the backcountry there's always the very real possibility of a day hike turning into an unplanned overnight. After getting lost on the trail after hour 15 Jay and his crew found themselves in a tough situation deep in the remote Santanoni range. Find out what Jay did right and wrong in this fascinating story of a day hike not going to plan.
46.) Summit Sessions #7: 552 High Peaks- The ADK Grid with Amanda Riggs08 May 202000:46:58
In this edition of the Summit Sessions we talk all about the high peaks, all 552 of them. While there's only 46 high peaks in the Adirondack Park, one challenge of sorts, known as "The Grid" involves hiking all 46 of them in every month of the year totaling 552 total high peaks. An unbelievable task and my guest tonight is over 400 peaks in as she works towards her goal of Gridding the high peaks.
45.) ADK Campfire Stories: Don't Cross the Bog After Dark01 May 202000:34:52
The Adirondack Park is a remote and a desolate wilderness. The home of unexplainable things happening deep in the forest. Things that conventional thinking can't explain. What happens late at night down at the Couchsacraga Bog will leave Andy and Sara running for their lives in the latest edition of The 46 of 46 Podcast ADK Campfire Stories series.
44.) Scarface Mountain: The Most Underrated Hike in the ADK24 Apr 202000:23:43
Scarface Mountain is a lone peak towering above the towns of Ray Brook and Saranac Lake that often gets flack as "not having any views". This however is not true and the actual hike and woods the trail runs through make for a terrific hike and therefore I'm declaring this mountain the most underrated hike in the Adirondack Park.
43.) Summit Sessions #6: The Northville-Placid Trail Start to Finish with Danielle Rootes17 Apr 202001:53:32
A Northville-Placid Trail thru-hike story from start to finish. In this episode Danielle Rootes takes us day-by-day through her entire thru-hike of the 138 mile Northville-Placid Trail, a single trail stretching across the heart of the Adirondack Park in upstate New York. Grab your NPT map and follow along as Danielle breaks down all 8 days on the trail in what is undoubtedly the most NPT information you'll find in any podcast.
159.) A Subzero Day in the MacIntyre Range22 Mar 202400:38:17
Bundle up and join us for a bone-chilling and exhilarating hike as we venture through the Macintyre Range for a winter day of subzero summitting- Algonquin, Iroquois, and Wright

Despite the forecast of -30° windchill at the summits and a frosty start at 0°, our spirits soared under the crystalline blue skies, proving that the best winter hiking conditions often come on the coldest, sunniest days.

You'll hear how diverse experiences—from first-timers to seasoned Adirondack 46’ers—meld on the trail, and how we navigate the biting cold with the warmth of good company and the promise of Blue Line Bakery cookies.

A memorable magical day in the snowcapped High Peaks.

40.) Summit Sessions #3: Erik Schlimmer- An Adirondack Legend27 Mar 202001:31:24
In this Summit Session I had the opportunity to speak with Adirondack legend, Erik Schlimmer, author and founder of the TransADK route. Erik's outdoors resume is extraordinary as he's hiked over 15,000 miles, spent over 1,000 nights in the woods, an avid bushwhacker, and explored more of the Adirondack park and the northeast than anyone I've ever met.

Today's spontaneous weekday afternoon adventure would take me up local-favorite Owl's Head just off route 73 between Lake Placid and Keene. This trail is closed on weekends so despite the 50mph wind gusts and fresh morning snow it was as good a time as any to visit this little Adirondack gem.
