When You Feel Like Giving Up or Walking Away25 Feb 202600:19:49

When you reach that quiet moment where you think, I don’t know if I can keep doing this, you’re not alone. In this episode, I talk honestly about soul-level exhaustion, the temptation to choose comfort over commitment, and why endurance is essential to spiritual maturity.

Through Elijah’s story in 1 Kings, we see that God meets us not with condemnation, but with rest, nourishment, and a whisper of grace. If you’ve felt weary, discouraged, or on the brink of quitting, this conversation will remind you that exhaustion lies—but God is faithful

Don’t walk away.

Sometimes the breakthrough comes right after the moment you almost left.

Don’t forget – This is your final week to enter the giveaway for A Verse a Day for the Anxious Soul.
All you have to do is:

Finding Freedom Through Honest Faith with Nathan Clarkson18 Feb 202600:30:30

Hey Friend!

In this candid and inspiring conversation, I sit down with actor, filmmaker, and author Nathan Clarkson to discuss brokenness, humility, and the surprising freedom that comes from admitting our faults. Nathan shares the heart behind his new book, The Worst: How Freedom Is Found in Admitting Our Faults, and opens up about his personal journey of confronting pride, perfectionism, and hidden struggles.

Together, we explore why we resist acknowledging our weaknesses, how shame keeps us stuck, and why God’s grace meets us most powerfully in our honesty.

This episode is a refreshing reminder that freedom doesn’t come from pretending we have it all together—it comes from surrender, humility, and embracing the unconditional love of Christ.

Don’t forget - I am still giving away a copy of A Verse a Day for the Anxious Soul by Becky Keife!

All you need to do is -

  • Leave a podcast review

Is It God, Me, or the Enemy? How to Discern God’s Voice with Rachel Groll 17 Dec 202500:37:28

Ever wondered if that voice in your head is God, your own thoughts, or spiritual interference? In this episode, I sit down with Rachel Groll—author, podcaster, and two-time seminary graduate to unpack a solid, biblical approach to discerning God's voice. Rachel explains why Scripture must be your primary filter and how consistent obedience actually sharpens your spiritual discernment over time. She also points to powerful female prophets like Miriam, Deborah, and Huldah as biblical evidence that hearing from God isn't mystical nonsense—it's deeply scriptural

We dive into the difference between reading and truly meditating on God's Word, plus offer practical wisdom for navigating prophetic words with discernment and peace.

The Power of Second Chances: A Journey to Sobriety and Purpose with Cheri Garcia10 Dec 202500:29:59

What happens when a “good, normal, suburban” life collides with addiction, shame, and a God who refuses to let go?

In this powerful conversation, I sit down with Cheri Garcia, founder of Cornbread Hustle, a second-chance staffing agency that’s helped thousands of formerly incarcerated men and women find work and hope.

Cherry shares her raw story—from teenage meth dealer and alcoholic to sober entrepreneur and soon-to-be bride—and how God met her in a New Year’s Eve church service, a single Bible verse, and a recovery community she now calls her sunflower sisters.

If you or someone you love is wrestling with addiction, this story will remind you: no one is too far gone for God.

And remember, I'd love to connect more on Instagram, where you'll find me at @donnaajones. And don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode!

How to Navigate the January Blues: A Heart-to-Heart on Overcoming Disappointment and Discouragement with Donna Jones10 Jan 202400:16:28

January Blues. We all feel it, at least a little bit. It’s that after-the-holiday-slump that sneaks up on us a few days into a new year. A  recent heart-to-heart with my daughter, Ashton, shines a light on this post-holiday slump as we navigate that pesky joy stealer, disappointment, and its insidious cousins, discouragement and disillusionment.

In today’s episode,  we look at the counsel offered in Joshua 1 and confront the emotional battles that can leave even the strongest among us feeling discouraged. Drawing from our past episode on this topic, we revisit strategies and insights to help lift our spirits and prevent life’s inevitable disappointments from becoming overwhelming, discouraging, or disillusionment.

As we peer into the year ahead, remember that connection is our lifeline. Whether extending a hand through a simple text message or engaging with our community on social media and through my website, we are not alone in our battles.

We don’t have to take the journey from disappointment to discouragement to disillusionment! So join us as we continue to have uplifting conversations that will be just what you need!

Donna

How to Love Better and Live with Purpose with Jill Savage, Lisa Allen, and Bob and Judy Hughes27 Dec 202300:29:13

On today’s episode, we unwrap a treasure trove of wisdom in my special 'best of' podcast compilation. Listen in as we revisit an unforgettable chat with Jill Savage, exploring the raw and profound journey of loving someone through their darkest times. Jill opens up about the trials of unconditional love, the challenges she faced during her husband's affair, and her own path to healing.

Also, I examine the idea of blessing those who wound us and the biblical call to live in peace. The conversation extends into the realms of identity and self-assurance, with lessons from Jennifer Rothschild and life coach Lisa Allen. And, believe it or not, we find a surprising angle on confidence from none other than the Kardashians.

Rounding out our episode are life-changing insights from family therapists, Bob and Judy Hughes. They share how we can cultivate more love and trust in relationships. We explore the significance of love-focused motives over outcome-focused ones (and..wow! It's good!)

May God use this “best of” episode to bless the close of your 2023 and provide a great start to 2024!

Who is Jesus? How God Made it Clear so We Can Be Sure with Donna Jones20 Dec 202300:12:47

“Who do you say that I am?" This is arguably the most important question Jesus asked his disciples. It's also the most important question we must ask ourselves.

Join me as we uncover the divine nature of Jesus, connecting the dots from Old Testament prophecies to His birth to the first few weeks of His life. And reflect upon the significance of Jesus being referred to as a Savior, the Christ, and the Lord.

I'm aware that struggles with faith and doubt are common, especially during the Christmas season. This episode will strengthen your faith, quell your doubts, and help you love and worship Jesus more deeply. As we worship and honor Jesus, our Savior, we encourage you to join the conversation on social media, sharing your thoughts, doubts, and revelations.

After all, discovering Jesus' true identity is a journey best shared with others.

How To Live A LIfe Worth Passing On with Donna Jones13 Dec 202300:20:30

Everyone leaves a legacy, but not everyone leaves the kind of legacy their kids and grandkids want to replicate. Which prompts me to ask: How truly enduring is the legacy you're building?

You may not have ever paused long enough to consider how the way you live your life affects how others live theirs…but it's something we all need to grapple with so we leave a legacy worth passing on.

What does it mean to live a life of integrity and authenticity, and how can we shape the future generation with these values?

Join me in today’s episode as I share cherished life lessons from my beloved father, Don Dayton Riley, whose recent passing has left a profound mark on me... Absorb his wisdom on leading with integrity, finding comfort in your own skin, and avoiding the destructive force of selfishness. Reflect on the indelible mark that parents can leave on their children, and be inspired to cultivate a lasting legacy of your own.

Ever been let down by those around you? My father’s belief, ‘people will disappoint you, but God never will,’ could be your guiding light in the storm.

So, come along on this journey, and you might just find your compass for life.

Conflict: Why We Have It and What to Do About It with Tina Yeager22 Nov 202300:35:13

Ever wonder why conflict seems to be a constant part of our daily life? Could fear and insecurity be the hidden culprits sabotaging our ability to connect with others?

Join me as I have a fascinating conversation with therapist and author Tina Yeager. We dissect the root causes of conflict, revealing how common self-protective behaviors can actually hinder healthy communication. We also share candid insights about shifting from self-interest to a love-based approach when dealing with conflict.

Tina and I also discuss prioritizing relationships over being right and how inviting God into our hard conversations has the potential to diffuse tension and spur understanding. As one of my daughters told me, “When I know I’m about to have a hard conversation, I pray, ‘God let this be a conversation between three, not two’–me, the person, and God.” Isn’t that the most beautiful and wise advice?

God Pursues You (and Those You Love, Too.) with Donna Jones01 Nov 202300:15:36

Can you remember losing sight of your child for just a few seconds or minutes? Your heart pounding, panic setting in, as you searched frantically until you found them safe and sound. On today's very personal episode-–a message I believe God wanted me to share with you– we talk about God’s overwhelming love and grace for you and those you love. I share my own experience of watching a friend’s daughter go missing at the beach and how that mirrors our own spiritual wanderings.

We’ll turn the pages of the Gospel of Luke, and delve into the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. Each narrative reveals the deep love God holds for us, even when we feel lost or distant. This conversation isn't just about losing and finding; it's about discovering the divine call that may lead us home, no matter how far we’ve strayed.

Listen in to hear truth meant to bring you hope, comfort, encouragement, and grace.

Shame and Guilt: The Barriers to Our Spiritual Journey? with Donna Jones20 Sep 202300:14:33

Have you ever wondered if your feelings of shame are keeping you from having a stronger relationship with God? As a pastor's wife who’s worked with thousands of women, I see it all the time.

Today I share the story of a woman I met whose life choices seem to be taking her on a path of increasing isolation from God–and, truth be told, I’m not sure she realizes why.  However, as I’ve talked with her, I sense she struggles with feelings of shame and unworthiness.

As we navigate through her story, we delve into the dichotomy of guilt and shame - the former tethered to our actions, the latter etched into our identity. We discover how a pervasive sense of shame can stifle our spiritual connection with God.

We run away from Him when we could run to Him.

God's acceptance is not conditional upon our perfection. It's time we unravel the complex concepts of guilt and shame and understand how they shape our relationship with God.

Let's embark on this enlightening journey together and get set free!

The True Spirit of Thanksgiving: Lessons of Resilience and Gratitude26 Nov 202500:09:10

Thanksgiving may bring to mind turkey and family gatherings, but its true origin carries a far deeper meaning.

Which got me thinking, “what exactly was happening in the lives of the pilgrims when they decided to have the first Thanksgiving?”

The answer surprised me. I knew the basics, of course, but there was so much more!

In this episode, we look back to 1621 and the remarkable resilience of the pilgrims, who paused to give thanks after a devastating winter that claimed half their community. Their gratitude wasn’t born from ease—it rose from loss, perseverance, and unwavering hope.

This is a great episode to listen to with your family or all by yourself.

Join me as we rediscover the heart of Thanksgiving and learn how practicing true gratitude can reshape our own lives.

How to Navigate Life Change Well with Guest, Amy Carroll09 Aug 202300:25:00

Ever wonder how to navigate life change with grace and resilience? Change is part of life, so it makes sense that we need to know how to do it well–yet so many of us don’t!

Amy Carroll, a seasoned trainer, author, and speaker, and I have an open, honest conversation about life changes. Our chat is both fun and deep! Amy opens up about her aversion to change (something most of us can relate to!) and shines light on how God led her to the changes and through the changes.

Amy candidly discusses how she learned to see the negative emotions that often come with change, not as enemies, but as catalysts for righteous action and character development. She shares her experiences of finding God to be her rock in a turbulent world, how preserving relationships during change is key, and why we need the support of a Christian community during seasons of change. Prepare to have your worldview transformed with this enriching conversation.

Episode 80 - Exploring the Profound Wisdom and Relevance of Biblical Rest with Donna Jones26 Jul 202300:11:20

Hey friend!

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the constant rush of life? Imagine taking an entire year off, not just to unwind, but to restore your soul and reestablish your trust in God’s provision. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? But also, utterly impossible.

Inspired by Leviticus 25 –a scripture that once seemed obscure and completely irrelevant to me and my life (I mean seriously, Leviticus???)– I learned a transformative lesson about the importance of rest. This divine directive, revolutionary even thousands of years ago, still holds powerful insights for our lives today.

We share a hearty conversation about how rest, as intended by God, can be both a restorative experience and a test of trust. A challenge so often brushed aside in our workaholic culture. We also consider the profound idea that rest is a concept highlighted by Jesus Himself.

It's time we reconsidered the value of intentional rest and, in doing so, discover a journey of faith and trust in God's and His provision for our life. So, are you ready to uncover the wisdom of rest as we delve into Leviticus 25?  (Trust me, you’ll definitely learn something you didn’t know from this episode!) Let's dive right in.

One Often Overlooked Principle About How to Have Better Relationships  with Donna Jones05 Jul 202300:11:04

We all have a “direction” we want a relationship to go. You know what I mean: maybe we’d like a relationship to head in the direction of more closeness, more authenticity, more respect, more honesty, or more fun, just a name a few. But how do we steer the relationship in that direction?

On today’s episode, I share a personal “aha” moment about the direction of our relationships. Recently I re-listened to a message I gave years ago on healthy families. As I listened, three simple words jarred me with their truth: Connection determines direction. This realization led me on a personal journey to evaluate the various relationships that make up my world–my family, friends, co-workers, and even my relationship with God. I found that our society generally promotes disconnection and isolation, which I wanted to challenge.

In today's episode, I share my personal insights and experiences on how to navigate this societal norm and foster more profound, more fulfilling relationships. I discuss how I'm intentionally enhancing my connections with the people in my life. Whether dedicating quality time to my husband or making a daily conscious effort to connect with God, the importance of prioritizing these connections cannot be overstated.

As you listen, I challenge you to evaluate your connections and consider how they influence your relationship's direction.

Is It Gossip? (Are You Sure?) How to Spot It, Stop It and Transform with Donna Jones It.14 Jun 202300:22:34

Gossip is one of those topics we don't often think about as a problem, or we might think it's not our problem. In reality, though, all of us have been affected by gossip: we’ve been gossiped about, we’ve been gossiped to, and yes, we’ve been the ones who’ve gossiped about others.

On today’s episode, we explore ten types of gossip. Some are guaranteed to surprise you!

From the "I just need to vent" gossip, to the "I need to get a life" gossip, each type is harmful and divisive. As we discuss these types, you might recognize some of your behaviors and learn how to avoid falling into the gossip trap.

This episode is a great conversation starter for teenage, college, and young adult daughters. If you’re in a small group, it’s one you might want to listen to and discuss together.

So, join me as we tackle gossip head-on and strive to love and respect others through our words and actions.

Navigating Life Transitions: Embracing Change with Faith and Purpose with Nicki Koziarz07 Jun 202300:31:57

Are you ready to navigate life's transitions with grace and faith?

This week, I had an enlightening conversation with my friend Nicki Koziarz, a wife, mom, Bible teacher, podcast host, and first-generation farmer. Nicki shares her wisdom from her latest bestselling book, Your New Now, which explores how to spiritually work through transition seasons in our lives. We delved into the four transition seasons:: Development, Separation, Cultivation, and Finished, and how to navigate through each.

Throughout our conversation today, Nicki shares her personal experiences, what research teaches us about transitions (I was surprised!), and why it’s vital for us to transition well from one season to the next. Nicki also shows us how its possible to be in more than one season simultaneously (this resonated with me). Through her wisdom and insight, we learned how the gospel offers hope for what is next after our time on earth has ended and the incredible power of faith in the midst of change.

You won't want to miss this enlightening and inspiring discussion with Nicki Koziarz!
