#380: High School Dropout to Multi-7-Figure Entrepreneur: The Inspiring Journey of Ryann Halo04 Jul 202400:24:52

A 4th of July Bonus Episode is here! We welcome South Tampa's Young Professional of the Year, Ryann Halo.

"When I opened my first salon I was just 21 years old & had NO IDEA what I didn’t know… Now 13 years later, I am forever changed as a person - without a doubt for the better. I will undoubtedly be forever learning & am sure I still have no idea what I don’t even know yet!

What I DO now know:
✨Be very clear about what you value / your “why” - There will be times that test you & make you question your path… but if you keep these as your North Star you will almost certainly be proud when you look back at your journey

✨You have to believe deeply in what’s possible & spread that light of hope in others to help guide the way for them also

✨Teams win championships & great teams have great leadership… with that, leadership is not about being the best, most talented or intelligent blah blah blah. It’s about doing everything in your power (even on the days you might not feel like it) to help each & ever person you have the privilege to lead reach their own personal bests!

I know for certain you don’t achieve greatness alone. Thank you to everyone who has helped guide me along the way, thank you to my husband, friends, family, & team for your unwavering support. Your trust & support have made this journey possible, & I am incredibly grateful to each and every one of you. Thank you for believing in me."

#374: All About Giving with Little Saint Nick's Wil White16 Jun 202400:20:18

Wil loves working in the startup world and serves as Chief Giving Officer, or “Head Elf 🎄” of the Little Saint Nick Foundation. He shares his journey as an entrepreneur to continue our Incubator Bonus series!

Welcome back to That Entrepreneur Show! If you enjoy the show, please subscribe for weekly episodes and leave a review to help others join our conversations! For information on joining the show or working with Vincent's team to launch your own, email Danica at PodcastsByLanci@gmail.com to get started.

Other areas Wil discusses are:

  • Selling juice boxes in elementary school: "Buy 2, Get 1 get Free"
  • What led him to nonprofit work
  • How to expand a brand to new states
  • Behind-the-scenes entrepreneur life

The Little Saint Nick Foundation (LSNF) inspires kids in local communities to give back to kids in need. We do this by providing simple Gift Bags to kids as they enter the hospital made by other kids. There is a special connection between kids of all ages that you can’t duplicate, and a simple act of kindness amplifies this connection to a deeper meaning of giving.

LSNF was founded in 2004 by Raymond Mohler, Jr., at age six. Ray had a scary hospital experience as a child but was able to leave the hospital after one day. Feeling fortunate that he did not have a life-threatening nor permanent disease, but rather one that is treatable and fully recoverable, Ray decided he needed to give back to the kids whom he left behind at the hospital who were not as fortunate as he was. Ray’s mission – even at his young age – was to help relieve the fear, anxiety, and isolation experienced by children related to a child’s hospital visit.

#373: Health Scares Lead to a Career with Ela’s Sweets Eliza Marrero09 Jun 202400:16:49

The New Venture Expo's first-place winner is here to continue the Incubator Bonus Series! This inspiring entrepreneur uses her story to change the world through her company.

Areas Eliza Marrero discusses include:
-Her WHY came after being diagnosed
-Saying no to things
-Strategies to market your brands
-How to find celiac-safe food

Welcome back to That Entrepreneur Show! If you enjoy the show, please subscribe for weekly episodes and rate the show 5 stars to help others join our conversations!

Hi everyone, my name is Eliza Marrero, but you can call me Ela (E-la). I’ve spent years cooking and baking since I was a little girl. My favorite place in the house was the kitchen; I loved the power food had to bring people together and make them smile.

Throughout high school, I would have unexplainable episodes that would land me in the hospital. I would wake up covered in hives with my eyes so swollen I could barely see, and often times my tongue would begin to swell. I spent months in and out of specialists’ offices, the hospital, and numerous doctors’, but no one could figure out what was causing it. There were no new foods, clothes, detergents, or even makeup.

Those episodes eventually stopped until my freshman year of college. They began to happen again, but this time it involved my stomach. I spent endless nights sleeping in the bathroom as I would not be able to stop throwing up. Every time I ate, my stomach blew up like a balloon, and I looked 9 months pregnant. I would get nausea and the worst body aches.

After numerous blood tests and an endoscopy, I was diagnosed with what I thought at the moment would be my worst nightmare: Celiac disease. As a freshman living on campus without a kitchen, you can only imagine how difficult it was physically, emotionally, socially, and financially. I spent months trying different alternatives while still struggling to get 18 years of gluten out of my system.

I craved delicious sweet treats, but I couldn’t find any that actually tasted good and were worth the high price tag. That summer I made it my mission to experiment, making all my previously favorite desserts into gluten-free versions. Ela’s Sweets was born because everyone deserves to enjoy delicious treats despite their dietary restrictions.

Meet our Guest:
My name is Jack Foley and I’m a recent graduate of The University of Tampa. Being exposed to entrepreneurship from a young age, I knew it was a path I wanted to go down. My first venture was a landscaping company I started in the summers home from college. This gave me a good introduction to the challenges that come along with starting a business.

This ignited my passion for entrepreneurship even more. I worked as a marketing and engagement specialist at the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center at UT, which allowed me to be around and learn from many great entrepreneurs.

In the future, I hope to take my passion for entrepreneurship and real estate into my next venture.

  5. Making It a Great Place to Work

More than half of their employees have a different ability, their Giving Back program has raised over $750,000 for charity partners like the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the Autism Society of America. Most of all, they are Spreading Happiness™.
