True Ghost Stories: The Smiling Man, Indrid Cold, and Men in Black, Explained11 Sep 202600:30:09

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's two calls include a towel that appeared with no one home to deliver it, and two flights separated by years featuring men who should not have existed.

Larissa from Texas calls in with her mother's story, one her mom still denies to this day. Home alone in the shower, expecting her kids back from school, her mother called out twice for someone to bring her a towel. She heard the front door open and close, and when she got out, a towel had been left for her. Except neither of her children had been home. Both were accounted for elsewhere, and every family member who might have stopped by confirmed they hadn't. Around the same time, Larissa had been telling her mother she kept seeing a little girl in the house, dismissed as an overactive imagination, until her mother had her own encounter, waking up to the top of a small head peering over the edge of the bed. The family blessed the house and agreed never to speak of it again.

Gary D. from Southern Ontario returns with a story that goes beyond a typical haunting. Passing through an airport parking garage decades ago, he encountered an elderly man in a tight tan suit who turned his head slowly as he passed, flashing an unnervingly wide, perfectly white smile. Minutes later, he saw an identical man in the same suit, same build, but a different face, then a third at his gate. Two of them boarded his flight and stared at him the entire trip, only to vanish from their seats mid-flight. A flight attendant confirmed those seats had been empty the entire time. Years later, on a different flight, two more men in matching gray suits approached him directly. One said, "Nice to see you again; it's been some time." The other said, "We will be seeing you later." Neither has appeared since.

This one sent me down a research rabbit hole. What Gary describes maps almost perfectly onto a strain of folklore that predates the internet and has only gotten more documented since. There's the Smiling Man, a modern urban legend that started in 2012 on Reddit's r/nosleep, a tall figure in an old, ill-fitting suit with a frozen, exaggerated grin. There's Indrid Cold, sometimes called the Grinning Man, documented back in 1970 and tied to the Mothman phenomenon: a tall, deeply tanned man in a strange, glossy suit who appears out of nowhere and stares in total silence. And there's the broader Men in Black tradition, entities in slightly wrong suits who seem to be mimicking human behavior without fully understanding it, which is exactly the uncanny, hypnotic wrongness Gary described.

True Ghost Stories for Falling Asleep: A Haunted Coffin, a Cursed Property, and a Kitchen No One Touched03 Sep 202600:25:15

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a ghost who literally swept a guest off his feet in a London hotel, two coffins from a funeral home that ended up haunting a Halloween attraction, a decades-old attachment that still whispers in the dark, a cursed property with a body count, and a kitchen that wouldn't stay closed after a stranger's belongings came home (Ep FKA "Real Ghost Stories For Falling Asleep - Mixtape Vol. 10"). This episode is now available as a video on Spotify & YT!

Greg from Los Angeles calls in about a trip to Soho House Dean Street in London, where an off feeling all night built toward the moment he and his husband explored an eerily empty floor. Descending the stairs afterward, Greg caught sight of shoes just out of view, turned around, and had his feet yanked completely out from under him, going fully horizontal before dropping. A bruise on his backside lasted the entire trip and vanished the moment his flight landed back in California.

Phil from Chattanooga calls in with two separate stories. The first involves a former funeral home in Rome, Georgia, where he found two decades-old embalming coffins in the basement, still used repeatedly for cremation services years earlier. Passed along to a Halloween spook house, the coffins caused actors to refuse to enter them, citing doors slamming and objects moving whenever they were near.

Rachel from Myrtle Beach calls in about paranormal activity that's followed her since age four, starting with her late great-grandmother appearing at her brother's window. Decades later, her first sleep paralysis episode left three unexplained scratches on her makeup vanity, and describing the experience to her mother caused the wall behind her to visibly darken, as if something were opening. Her most recent episode, just three weeks before this call, involved something demonic whispering in her ear, words she refuses to repeat.

Cindy from Avon, Indiana returns with an update on Little Rachel, the child spirit who followed her home from the Whispers Estate after Cindy left gifts at Christmas. Cindy, a retired Indiana State Police employee, says an EVP investigation on her birthday helped confirm Rachel's presence, and that Rachel now possesses one of her dolls.

Phil returns with a second, far darker story about a property he purchased in Georgia containing three identical houses. Within a year, one tenant was beaten to death with a hammer, another died of a fentanyl overdose, a third suffered a disabling stroke, and the leaseholder died just three weeks after being given six weeks to live. A neighbor eventually warned Phil that no one nearby would set foot on the property. Phil sold it, disclosed everything, and the new owner suffered a permanent medical emergency two months after closing.

And Lauren closes the episode with a story from a Round Rock, Texas apartment, where a roommate brought home sentimental belongings after his brother's sudden drowning death. That same night, Lauren's younger sister fled the apartment in the early morning hours, terrified by sounds coming from an empty kitchen. In the following weeks, every cabinet in that kitchen, including ones too high to reach, would be found open with no one home and every door locked.

True Ghost Stories: The Hat Man Returns, an Imp in the Back Seat, and a Ghost Boy Who Wanted His Mom27 Aug 202600:19:56

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls each involve something watching from just beyond the light. A tall silhouette in a top hat that returned to the same little girl five years apart. A glowing face the size of a dinner plate riding in the back seat of a Camaro on a Florida highway. A haunted estate in upstate New York with rooms that seem to beg for attention. A voice from the Oregon woods I need to address directly before we get into it. And a six-year-old ghost boy in Indiana who just wanted his mother back. This episode is available as a video on Spotify and YouTube.

Marissa from Dallas calls in with a true ghost story from when she was five years old, watching shadows in her room take the form of a tall, faceless man in a top hat standing in her doorway. He approached her bed, pressed a hand into the sheets beside her, and then vanished. It never happened again until she was ten, in a new house, when she woke to find her door open, her nightlight off, and multiple dark figures watching from the hallway like an audience. Then the Hat Man returned, closer this time, leaning over her bed and touching her leg through the blanket before disappearing. That was twenty years ago. She still prays it stays that way.

David from Ocala returns to Tell Me A Ghost Story, this time with a story from 1983 that has nothing to do with his movie theater ghost. Driving home from a party at 1 AM in his 1967 Camaro, he checked his blind spot and found a two and a half foot tall glowing figure standing in his back seat, smiling, its face lit from within like a lamp. It lasted only a few seconds before vanishing. He later learned the folklore term for what he saw. An imp.

Ashley calls in about her sister's old estate in Carmel, New York, a historic property from the early 1900s where she would wake in the middle of the night to flickering electronics and a heavy, distracting presence in more than one guest room. Carmel sits in Putnam County on land with a long documented history of paranormal activity, including nearby Smalley's Inn, one of the most famous haunted locations in the region, where the ghost of a toddler named Elizabeth Smalley has been reported for well over a century.

Julian calls in from Bend, Oregon, and this one is different from every other call in this episode. Rather than looking back on something that already happened, Julian's message plays out in real time. Lost in the woods, cold, inside an abandoned house, being followed by something he describes as taller than the trees with a distorted face. If this is you, Julian, or if anyone knows him, please reach out to local authorities in Bend. I hope this was only a story.

And Cindy Ketcher from Avon, Indiana closes the episode with a story about her parents' first apartment in 1957, shared with a young married couple whose little boy had died before they ever met. The ghost loved tearing up trash bags and flushing an empty toilet. Cindy's mother, a psychic, eventually walked the boy's spirit by the hand back to his grieving parents, and in the process told them something nobody could have known yet. That she was pregnant. With Cindy.

Real Ghost Stories for Rainy Days: The Mount Washington Hotel, a Ouija Board Warning, and a Spider With a Human Face20 Aug 202600:18:43

Hey, it's Michelle, and this classic episode has five calls that take us to one of the most famously haunted hotels in America, a Ouija board that darkened with every question, a whisper that knew exactly when to speak, and a spider with a human face. This episode is now available as a video on Spotify and YouTube.

Christy from Los Angeles calls in with a true ghost story from her second trip to the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. During a live talk from paranormal psychic Chip Coffey, a strange smear, like someone had rubbed the atmosphere itself with a finger, moved across the curtain directly behind him. Two witnesses saw it, and Chip himself paused mid-sentence to say he hadn't seen her there. The Mount Washington Hotel has one of the most storied hauntings in the country, tied to Princess Caroline, the widow of the hotel's original owner, who kept returning summer after summer and whose original suite, room 314, remains the heart of the hotel's reported activity to this day, complete with flickering lights, floral perfume in the night, and a woman seen sitting on her original century-old bed.

Jess from San Antonio, Texas calls in with a haunting that began after moving in with her grandparents. Breathing and moaning came from behind a side door in her childhood bedroom. Years later, her grandmother described two men in old-fashioned clothing watching her sleep, then woke up screaming that a woman was choking her. When a hairstylist client turned out to be a psychic, she independently described the exact same two men, protectors against an evil presence in the home, and performed a salt cleansing that ended the activity for good. Jess has since tried sleeping in that room twice as an adult, both times waking in sleep paralysis with a black mass suffocating her.

Reid from Colorado Springs calls in with a Ouija board session that turned dark fast, the spirit's answers growing more ominous with every question until he ended the session. Afterward, the board's pieces had rearranged themselves on their own, a closed door was found open, and a shadow figure in formal clothing appeared and vanished as he left the room.

Nicole from Phoenix calls in with a whisper she heard as a child pretending to be asleep, "Hey, I see you," in a voice she mistook for her prankster father, who was found asleep in another room seconds later, nowhere near fast enough to have said it. Her mother and aunts later confirmed the house had a long history of activity, including visions of children standing outside holding hands.

And Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana closes the episode with a story about her father's first rental house in Indianapolis, cheap because the previous owner had allegedly murdered his wife there. Within a week of moving in, an apricot-sized black spider with a human face began crawling across his bed nightly, vanishing each time, until he finally confronted the landlord, who offered no explanation. The house has since been torn down.

True Ghost Stories: A Translucent Woman at the Movies, a Haunted Hotel Bed, and a Voice in the Dark13 Aug 202600:29:29

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's four calls span a movie theater in 1978, a hotel in Santa Barbara, a psychiatric hospital basement, and a farm in Indiana where something was killing deer. This episode is available as a video on Spotify and YouTube.

David calls in with a true ghost story from 1978, when he went to see Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at a nearly empty theater in Gainesville, Florida. He and his friend sat in a row with plenty of open seats. About thirty seconds later, a woman appeared in the seat beside him, pulled her purse toward herself, and told him that if he did not get away from her immediately, she was calling the cops. David ran. When he turned around, there was nobody there.

Jules from Santa Barbara returns with a true ghost story from her work at the Mar Monte Hotel. A guest had posted on TikTok about an experience in one of the rooms, detailed enough and specific enough that Jules and the director of rooms decided to check the vacant room themselves. The room looked completely ordinary until they looked at the bed. Their housekeepers make beds with near-perfect precision every single time, and this bed had a deep indent on one side, the kind of indent a person's weight leaves behind, in a room nobody had slept in. Jules got a photo before they ran out. If this is your first time hearing from Jules, she has called in before about a man who walked through a solid wall at a hostel in Vancouver and a ghost child who followed her through a Brooklyn apartment.

Article: "I went looking for a haunted hotel in Santa Barbara. What I found was a city full of ghosts." By Julie Tremaine

Gary D returns with his third call to Tell Me A Ghost Story. Fresh out of high school, he took a job in the basement archive of an old psychiatric hospital, transferring decades of patient records into digital files, completely alone in a cobblestone basement with flickering lights and dark corners. The chain rattling started within the first few weeks. Then a voice from the darkest corner said, "Help me" while he was reading the file of a patient with a documented history of hearing voices and seeing things. Staff told him his mind was playing tricks in exactly the kind of environment that plays tricks on people. Then during a storm, the power went out completely, and something dragged itself toward him through the dark, breathing heavily, before the lights came back on to reveal nobody there. In his final month, a stack of boxes fell on its own, and something shoved him hard enough from behind to knock him to his hands and knees. Staff eventually confirmed that unregulated experimental treatments had taken place in that exact section of the basement decades earlier. Gary believes whatever is down there was trying to communicate and did not want him in that space.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana calls in with a story from her grandfather's farm in Seymour, Indiana, where deer in the area were being killed by something nobody could identify. Her father, an early paranormal investigator, took the men in the family out to the woods at night with rifles to find it.

Four real callers. Four true ghost stories.

True Ghost Stories for Dark Summer Nights: A Smelly Ghost, Shadow People, the Hat Man, and a Ghost Who Yelled, "Run!"29 Jul 202600:30:09

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week we have a classic season three episode bringing together six true ghost stories from our callers to celebrate the dark nights of Summer-ween. Now available as a full video episode on both Spotify and YouTube for the first time.

Sophie from Los Angeles calls in with a true ghost story about the house her family bought when she was young. Her little brother refused to go into one room from the moment they arrived and kept telling their mother that the man in the chair smelled. The family assumed imaginary friend until they discovered a man named Sal had died in that exact room. Sal apparently had a strong smell in life and kept it in death.

Brennan Storr from The Ghost Story Guys returns with more shadow figure encounters. If you heard his first call on Accidental Exorcism you already know his history with shadow people. A house near his home in Victoria caused him and his wife to have the same intruder dream on two separate nights after simply driving past it. Then in Montreal, a shadow figure in a hooded robe appeared standing over him in the night. When he gasped it did not disappear. It sucked back into the closet like the end of Poltergeist.

Cindy calls in with a ghost pet story. Her father's greyhound Sparky lived to fourteen and after he died the family heard it downstairs. Click click click. Dog toenails on linoleum moving in the same familiar pattern to the top of the stairs, then stopping.

Jules from Santa Barbara calls in with a ghost story that begins at a youth hostel in Vancouver in 2001 and spans decades. She saw a man in a top hat walk through a solid wall at 2 AM. What followed over years was a series of encounters, including a ghost child in a Brooklyn apartment who followed her everywhere and eventually had to be given firm boundaries about which rooms she could enter. Jules ultimately made a conscious decision to close herself off to the paranormal entirely and has been largely undisturbed since 2008.

Erica from San Diego returns with her fourth call. She woke on the couch at her mother's house to find a tall dark figure with a pointed hat at the entrance of the hallway. The moment she registered it, the figure darted down the hall, and she chased it. When she reached the hallway, it was gone. Her dog did not bark. What Erica encountered is what thousands of independent eyewitnesses call the Hat Man, a shadow figure described as seven to ten feet tall wearing a fedora-style hat, observed standing over people while they sleep across cultures and continents with a consistency that makes it one of the most documented shadow entity phenomena in paranormal research.

Nellie from Illinois returns. She and her mother were talking when both caught it at the same moment. A dark shadow the size of a child moving across the edge of their vision. Neither said anything until Nellie turned and asked did you see that. She had.

And Maggie from Everett, Washington calls in about the man in the suit, the resident ghost of the hundred-year-old building where she works. Polite. Slightly mischievous. Not malicious. The man in the suit is apparently still very much on the clock.

Six real callers. Six true ghost stories for dark summer nights.

True Ghost Stories: A Spirit Box Said Small Boy Limp, a Ghost Named Bob Made Coffee, a Halloween Creature, and Cindy's Haunted Marilyn Monroe Portrait23 Jul 202600:19:46

Hey, it's Michelle, and tonight we have four calls, a spirit box that said something only three sisters in the room could understand. A ghost named Bob who made coffee every morning in a house he no longer lived in. Something at a 1970s Halloween party in Southern Ontario that sat with Gary D for thirty minutes and left a wet slime trail out the front door. And Cindy Ketron, who owns a haunted portrait of Marilyn Monroe. This episode is also available as video on Spotify or YouTube.

Trina from Norwich calls in with a true ghost story from a paranormal investigation at a cultural heritage center where she and her sisters volunteer. The spirit box said one name first. Then later in the night it said two more words. Small boy limp. Their father had polio when he was three years old. He walked with a stunted leg his entire life. Nobody in that room could have known that. Nobody could have planted it. It sounded like a grandmother reporting what she saw from the outside, the way someone who watched a small boy limp would describe it rather than the way the family would.

Angelica from Marietta, California calls in with a true ghost story about moving into her in-laws' house and meeting Bob. Bob had a morning routine. Cabinet opening. Mugs rattling. Sliding glass door opening and then closing behind him. Angelica heard it all from upstairs and came down to find nobody there.

Gary D from Southern Ontario returns with his second call. If you heard his first story about falling through ice at midnight and hearing a 1920s New Year's Eve party playing in an abandoned pavilion basement, you already know that Gary has a particular gift for being present when something genuinely inexplicable happens. This one is from a Halloween party in the 1970s. Something glided across the room and sat down across from him at a corner table. Tentacles hanging from its shoulders, wet and glistening and moving independently the way actual tentacles move. In the 1970s. Before animatronics. Before computer chips in costumes. It never spoke. Not a single friend at that party saw it.

And Cindy Ketron from Indianapolis calls in with a haunted portrait story that I have been thinking about since I first heard it. Cindy owns a studio portrait of Marilyn Monroe, the iconic image of her standing over the grate in New York City with her skirt billowing. Every year on August 4th, the anniversary of Marilyn's death, the portrait knocks three times. And when Cindy comes into the room, the eyes in the portrait are open wider than usual, looking horrified, as if she cannot believe this is happening again. There is a story about Marilyn that feels relevant here. She was once walking down a street in New York City completely unrecognized, and a friend asked if she was sure nobody knew who she was. Marilyn said, "Do you want to see her?" And then she shifted. Something in her posture changed, and within moments people were stopping and crowding around her. She could turn Marilyn Monroe on like a switch. What knocks in Cindy's apartment every August 4th is not the woman. It is the presence. And the presence is apparently still very much here.

Four real callers. Four true ghost stories.

Texas True Ghost Stories: A Succubus, a Haunted Home, a Church Ghost, and More Real Encounters15 Jul 202600:24:33

Hey, it's Michelle. Something spooky is going on in the Lone Star State. This is a classic season two compilation episode bringing together six true ghost stories from Texas callers, now available as a full video on both Spotify and YouTube for the first time.

Tyler from Texas returns with the second of his two paranormal stories and this one goes to a darker place than his first call. After a tragic car accident outside his apartment in Oak Cliff, Dallas, something moved in with him. What Tyler came to believe he was dealing with was a succubus, a malevolent spirit with a documented history across cultures dating back thousands of years. Tyler sought the help of a priest. The activity eventually subsided. He has thought about why ever since.

Gabby from Texas calls in with a haunted house story that is not about a single encounter or a one-time event. It is about living inside a paranormal situation every single day. Strange things happening in the morning. At night. In the ordinary moments of domestic life that are supposed to feel safe. Gabby's house has made it clear regularly that she is not the only one there, and she has had to figure out how to keep living in it anyway.

Karl from Texas describes a paranormal presence inside his church, the specific and deeply unsettling experience of feeling something wrong in a space that is supposed to be protected. Churches have some of the most documented paranormal histories of any building type, and Karl's encounter adds to that record with the kind of specific detail that makes it impossible to dismiss.

LaSondra calls in with a ghost encounter that happened in the most private and ordinary space in her home, and discovered that privacy means nothing to whatever was sharing her bathroom. The shower ghost is specific in what it did and how it made itself known, and LaSondra has not entirely reconciled herself to the experience since.

Alexandra from Texas takes us house hunting and finds something she was not looking for. She was simply trying to find somewhere to live when the properties she toured made clear they already had occupants who had not agreed to leave. Texas strikes again.

Lauren calls in with her experience of spirit orbs, the widely debated paranormal phenomenon that sits at the intersection of photography, consciousness, and the question of what exactly a spirit looks like when it decides to make itself visible. Her encounter with a black orb in her boyfriend's house connected to the spirit of a previous owner who apparently never finished being there.

Six real callers. Six true ghost stories. All Texas.

True Ghost Stories: The Man in the Hat, a Three Year Old's Closet Ghost, and a Woman in Red with Glowing Eyes09 Jul 202600:25:09

Hey, it's Michelle, I took an extended break by accident. It was my birthday, and then I published this comedy book that has nothing to do with the paranormal. Now I'm back with this week's calls, and each involves seeing something that should not be there.

Brandy from Marysville, Ohio, calls in with a true ghost story from a girls' weekend in Yellow Springs, a small Ohio town with a long history as a gathering place for people with a sensitivity to the unexplained. Brandy bought a dark smoky quartz crystal and that night showed it to her friend Emily, asking if she saw anything in it. Emily said it looks like a guy wearing a hat. Exactly what Brandy had seen and had not said out loud. The next morning a man in a long trench coat and a hat walked out of an antique store in town. She recoginzed him immedently: the man in her crystal...

Larissa from Texas returns with another call. If you heard her first story about Frank the pocket watch ghost at the medical examiner's office, you already know Larissa has a particular attunement to the paranormal. This story is about her daughter who was three years old when they moved into an apartment in Brownwood, Texas. Her daughter told her there was a tall man in the closet. He waved at her. He was not mean. Then he started asking her to come into the closet. "He cannot come past the carpet," her daughter said. Then he started keeping her up at night and becoming more aggressive. Larissa used holy water in the closet and her daughter's room, and prayed, and the man never came back. Her daughter is older now and still remembers him and drew a picture, which is the picture featured on this episode's show art. Sent in by Larrissa.

Sapphire Sandalo calls in with a true ghost story from a regular Thursday afternoon. At a four-way traffic stop, a woman in a long, bright red skirt stood perfectly still at the corner holding white bags. Her face did not make sense, blurred, obscured like a filter, but her eyes were clear and glowing underneath it. Honey colored with very bright whites. Sapphire's husband turned left past her. He had not seen her at all. Sapphire drew the woman and sent the drawing to her cousin without explanation. Her cousin had just pulled an oracle card she felt compelled to pull. The card was of a woman with glowing eyes and dark skin wearing red. It was Kali. At the exact moment Sapphire had texted her medium friend Stephanie about the encounter, Stephanie had been listening to a podcast about a woman who saw someone she thought was living and later realized was a ghost. Coincidence? I think not. Sapphire doesn't know yet whether the woman in red was a ghost or something older. But she now thinks about her every time she drives through that intersection.

Sapphire hosts Stories With Sapphire, a paranormal podcast where people submit ghost stories she narrates or tells in their own words. Find her on Instagram at @sapphire_sandalo, (also where you can see her drawing of the lady in red!!) or on YouTube at Sapphire Sandalo. She also has a horror short film called BREEDER currently making the festival circuit.

Real Ghost Stories For Long Drives: Gettysburg, a Woman on the Sidewalk, a Hawaiian Spirit, and a Ghost Evicted in New Zealand26 May 202600:25:04

Hey it's Michelle, A Civil War battlefield in Pennsylvania. A sidewalk in Orange County at night. A grandmother who came back to say she was not finished. A spirit that followed someone home from Oahu. And a ghost in New Zealand who had opinions about being asked to leave.

This is another classic season 2 compilation episode, bringing together five of the most unforgettable true ghost stories from earlier in the series and from all around the world. And for the first time, this episode is now available as a full video on both Spotify and YouTube, so you can finally watch as well as listen.

Paige from Los Angeles calls in with a true ghost story from her middle school field trip to Gettysburg, one of the most extensively documented paranormal locations in the United States. In three days in July 1863, more than fifty thousand soldiers were killed, wounded, or went missing on that ground. Paige was there to learn about Civil War history. What she encountered on that battlefield went significantly beyond the curriculum, and what she brought home with her afterward made clear that something on that ground had decided to come along.

Roc from Orange County returns with another call. If you have followed Roc's story across the early episodes, you already know about the man shot outside his grandparents' motel, the spirit at the bedroom window at 3 AM, and the phantom phone calls from a disconnected booth. This time, Roc was outside in the middle of the night when he saw a woman crying on the sidewalk. He went toward her because that is what you do. What happened when he got close enough to see her properly is what he called in to tell us about. The question is exactly the right one. What would you do if you saw a woman crying on the sidewalk in the middle of the night?

Dave from Sioux Falls returns with a true ghost story about his grandmother Nonna, whose love apparently did not end when she died. Dave's connection to her was deep enough that when she passed, something of her stayed behind, making itself known in the specific and personal ways that only someone who knew him well could have managed. Nonna's story is one of those true ghost encounters that does not frighten so much as it stays with you because it is fundamentally about love that refuses to recognize the boundary between the living and the dead.

Chelsi from Los Angeles calls in with a haunted house story with an extra layer of difficulty built into it. The house belonged to her mother. The vibes were profoundly off from the moment Chelsi set foot in it. Something was not right and she felt it clearly and consistently every time she was there. Her mother did not feel it. Or did not want to.

Jasmine from Portland calls in with a ghost story from a stay in New Zealand, where the property had an elderly ghost who had decided the space was hers. Jasmine did not accept that arrangement. What she did about it is the heart of this episode, and the consequences of asking a ghost to leave when the ghost has been there considerably longer than you have are something Jasmine describes with the kind of pragmatic directness that makes her call one of the most memorable in the early archive. Some ghosts do not leave quietly.

True Ghost Stories: A Ghost Named Frank in a Morgue, a House That Said Thank You, and a Dance Hall That Played Music for No One13 May 202600:18:44

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week we have three real callers. Three true ghost stories from a morgue in Texas, a kitchen in Minnesota, and a frozen basement in Southern Ontario. This episode is also available as video on Spotify or Youtube.

Larissa from Texas calls in with a true ghost story from her time working as an investigator at a medical examiner's office. Late nights, intakes, autopsies, and a presence she named Frank. Frank has a pocket watch. He wears dress shoes. He walks the hallway with the unhurried energy of someone who has been at that threshold for a long time and sees no reason to cross it. When Larissa told him probably not tonight sir he left. When her coworker heard the pocket watch open right next to his desk instead of down the hallway where Frank usually roams, the coworker clocked out immediately and went home. Medical examiner offices are among the most consistently reported paranormal workplaces in documented research, threshold spaces where some presences simply choose to linger. Frank is one of those presences. He has a pocket watch and he is in no hurry.

Anne from St Paul, Minnesota calls in with a true ghost story from her work as a residential cleaner. Left alone in a client's home she was scrubbing cabinets hard when she heard it clearly. Thank you. Nobody else was in the house. The client's cat is in dialysis and not doing well and the space carried the specific weight of someone watching a beloved animal decline. Something in that house was paying attention to Anne working in it, and what it felt was gratitude. Not get out. Not help me. Thank you. In a show full of frightening encounters Anne's call stands out because the presence she encountered was not trying to scare her. It was trying to say something kind.

Gary D from Southern Ontario calls in with a true ghost story that begins with two teenagers falling through ice at midnight in well below zero temperatures and nearly dying, and somehow gets stranger from there. He and his friend John broke into an abandoned pavilion from the 1920s to survive the cold, wrapping themselves in burlap sacks in the basement while their hair froze solid. And then from above them they heard it. Big band music. Dozens of voices laughing and talking. Clinking glasses. Someone at a microphone working a crowd. Dancing. The full sound of a packed New Year's Eve celebration directly above them on a dance floor that when they climbed up to check had a heavy layer of undisturbed filth and snow lying across it. No people. No band. No footprints. Nothing. The music started twice and stopped twice like a switch being flipped. Gary raises the hypothermia explanation himself and it deserves consideration. But hypothermia does not produce identical shared hallucinations between two people who can confirm each other's perceptions in real time. Residual haunting, the specific paranormal category where a space replays its most emotionally concentrated memories like a recording, fits what Gary and John heard far better than any neurological explanation. The pavilion absorbed decades of New Year's Eve celebrations, and on the night two frozen teenagers sat in its basement, it played one back. They also found a large pile of long, brown, curly human hair between the barrels with no explanation. Gary does not know what that was. Neither do I.

A Lady in White, Shadow Figures, 3:33 AM, and More True Ghost Stories06 May 202600:31:40

Hey, it's Michelle, and this one is special. This is our first-ever compilation episode, bringing together eight of the most unforgettable true ghost stories from our first season callers in one place. And for the first time, this episode is now available as a full video on both Spotify and YouTube, so you can finally watch as well as listen. If you are new to Tell Me A Ghost Story, this is the perfect place to start. If you have been listening from the beginning, welcome back to the stories that started it all.

Eight real callers. Eight true paranormal encounters. Here is what is waiting for you.

Carlos from Los Angeles introduces us to Daisy, his ghost roommate. Daisy is not threatening. She is not hostile. She gives Carlos advice and seems to have opinions about how he is living his life. Carlos has learned to listen to her, and honestly, after hearing his call, I understand why.

Heather from Mesa, Arizona, takes us to the Grand Hotel in Jerome, one of the most documented haunted hotels in the American Southwest. Jerome was a copper mining town built on violence and sudden death, and the Grand Hotel has been absorbing that history for over a century. Heather was in her room when a voice told her to turn down the TV. There was no TV on.

Greg from Echo Park in Los Angeles calls in with a Lady in White encounter from his childhood, a ghostly figure rooted in one of the oldest and most widely documented supernatural archetypes in Western paranormal history. Greg's encounter with her is as personal and unsettling as any we have received.

Yvonne from the Philippines returns with her dark figure story, the shadowy presence that chased her up the stairs at her aunt's house. If this is your first time hearing Yvonne's calls, there are more of them in the archive, and every single one is worth finding.

Hector from New Mexico details a series of paranormal events that keep happening at 3:33 AM, the hour that appears in supernatural accounts across cultures and centuries, with a consistency that researchers find impossible to attribute to coincidence. Hector has the scratches to prove it.

Deborah from Seattle takes us back to the séance at Fort Wright College with the theater students who were not entirely prepared for what answered back. Eerie sounds. Unexpected responses. A room full of people who went in curious and came out changed.

Nellie from Illinois shares her experience with the little ghost girl who appeared in her childhood home. If you have been following Nellie's calls across the early episodes, you already know her house revealed itself one room at a time. The little girl was one of the first signs that something was there.

And finally Dave from Sioux Falls calls in with a babysitting story that starts as an ordinary job and ends somewhere considerably more unsettling. Dave has called in before with paranormal encounters that stay with you, and this one is no exception.

Eight true ghost stories. One compilation episode. This is where Tell Me A Ghost Story found its voice.

True Ghost Stories: A Boy in Blue Pajamas Floating Above a Cemetery, a Ghost Cat, Footsteps with Nobody Attached, and the Green River29 Apr 202600:17:02

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's four calls have stayed with me longer than most. A ghost child seen by five military witnesses in a San Diego cemetery. A beloved cat who died twenty years ago still comes home. Footsteps that walked through a front door with nobody attached to them. And a dog named Biscuit who stopped on a trail near the Green River and found something in the weeds that the police came to bag in silence. Available on Spotify and YouTube as a video podcast.

Scott from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, calls in with a true ghost story from his time stationed in Southern California. He was required to attend a military funeral at a San Diego cemetery, and after most people had left, he and four others were standing in the parking lot when they all smelled formaldehyde at once. Strong enough to be physically sickening. Coming from a little boy walking the cemetery grounds in blue pajamas that looked like they were from the seventies. His feet were not quite touching the grass. He gave the five of them an angry look, and every instinct said run. They ran to their cars. As they drove away, every single one of them checked the rearview mirror, and every single one of them saw the same boy vanish at the exact same moment. Five military witnesses. One disappearance. No explanation.

James from San Francisco returns with his second call. If you heard his first story about the sage and the basement and the windows slamming on Post Street. He lives where Dashiell Hammett wrote The Maltese Falcon, and he has been sharing it for twenty years with the ghost of his cat Ow, who died after almost two decades together, and that's just the beginning.

Chase from Mesa, Arizona, returns with his second call. His first was about the disembodied voice in a Kansas basement that asked hey do you know me twice and waited for an answer. This story is from the same house. One evening, the group was downstairs when they heard the aluminum screen door open and slam, and then footsteps cross the living room above them and stop. Chase's brother ran upstairs, thinking it was his girlfriend. The footsteps moved into one of the bedrooms. His brother came back down with Oreos and no girlfriend and no explanation. Ten minutes passed before anyone said it out loud. The screen door had opened. The footsteps had crossed the floor. Something had gone into that bedroom. Nobody was there.

Ashley from Washington State calls in with the heaviest call of the episode. She used to walk her dog Biscuit along a trail near the Green River, the same stretch of river where Gary Ridgway left his victims for years before they were found. One night, Biscuit stopped and would not move. Ashley looked down and found something long, pale, and curved in the weeds beside the bank. She told herself it was a branch. Something bone-like about it would not let her walk away. She called the police. They came. They bagged it. The older officer looked at her the way people look when they are deciding how much to tell you, and said they needed to run tests. That was all he said. Ashley knows what was found along that river during those years.

Four real callers. Four true ghost stories.

Bloody Mary, Ghosts of Cambodia, and the Pool Boy: True Ghost Stories from Real Callers22 Apr 202600:13:40

Hey, it's Michelle, and this one is a little different. This episode won the Silver Signal Award in "Paranormal and Horror" podcasts and the International Women in Podcasting Award, and honestly, I'm still so proud of it. And now, it's a video episode available on Spotify and YouTube. If you haven't heard it yet, this is a good place to start.

Three callers. Three stories that cover completely different corners of the paranormal world. And all of them are real.

Cindy takes us back to Halloween night when she was a kid, the night she and her brother decided to actually do it. Summon Bloody Mary. What started as a dare between siblings turned into something neither of them expected, something that has stayed with Cindy ever since. I think most of us grew up hearing the Bloody Mary legend and writing it off as a game. Cindy is not writing it off.

Then we travel to Cambodia with Rax, and this one hit differently for me. His ghostly encounters are tied directly to the history of the Khmer Rouge, and the weight of that history is present in every detail he shares. A woman floating above him. A hand reaching out from a fan. These aren't just spooky images. They feel like something that place needed to say out loud. Rax's story is one of those that reminds me why I started this show in the first place.

And finally, Jennifer joins us, and she's not just a caller with a ghost story. She's a professional psychic medium, and her perspective on the haunted house she lived in adds a layer to this episode that I genuinely didn't expect. The ghost in question was a boy. He seemed completely real. He cleaned the pool. I know how that sounds, and I promise you it sounds even better when Jennifer tells it herself.

True Ghost Stories: A Motel Watcher, a Voice in the Basement, and a Hand from a Spanish Flu Grave15 Apr 202600:21:23

Hey, it's Michelle, and tonight's four calls are connected by something I did not notice until I had heard all of them together. Every single one of these callers was somewhere they were supposed to feel safe. A hotel room on a solo road trip. A basement bedroom in a college house. A family apartment they had lived in for years. A cemetery on a curious afternoon. And every single one of them found out that safe is not always the whole story. This episode is available as a video on both Spotify and YouTube, so you can watch as well as listen.

Four real callers. Four true ghost stories. Here is what is waiting for you.

Our first caller was driving solo from California to Portland when she pulled off Interstate 5 near Gilroy and checked into a Motel 6 for the night. She was tired. The room was run-down. The hotel felt empty. She dozed off, and when she looked across the room, there was a man sitting in the chair by the credenza. Gallard mustache. Baggy pants. Both hands on the armrests. Wide legs. Completely at ease. Just watching her sleep. She woke herself up screaming for her mother and slept with the light on until morning. Whatever was in that chair was gone the moment the light came on. She checked out at dawn and did not look back.

Chase from Mesa, Arizona, takes us to a basement in Salina, Kansas, in 2008, where he and his roommate, Travis, heard something that has no explanation. Travis was in the shower. Chase was sleeping in the next room. A woman's voice said, "Hey, do you know me?" They looked at each other. Thirty seconds of silence. Then the voice again. "Hey, do you know me?" The neighbors were all at school. It was only the two of them in the house. Whatever was asking that question was asking it directly and patiently and it was waiting for an answer. Chase says there is more but that is the real weird one. Chase please call back.

Our caller from San Antonio, Texas describes years of escalating paranormal activity in a family apartment from 1987 to 1991. An old woman in a 1900s style dress watching from beside the bed and smiling. A young woman in white on the stairs who his father stepped aside to let pass before she vanished. Voices calling his name from empty rooms. Lights turning on and off. Someone poking him on the back in the bathroom when he was completely alone. The dog was terrified for no reason. And persistent water leaks that kept getting worse, no matter how many repairs were made. Worth noting that chronic water damage can lead to toxic mold exposure, which has documented neurological effects, including auditory and visual hallucinations. Whether that explains what happened in that apartment or whether the apartment had something in it that the mold could not account for, the family eventually had to leave. The activity made that decision for them.

And finally, Cindy Ketron from Haunted Avon, Indiana, returns with the story of a cemetery in Seymour, Indiana, in 1987, in a section filled with children's graves from the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 to 1919. The Spanish flu killed between fifty and one hundred million people worldwide in roughly two years, among them a devastating number of children, and small town cemeteries across America still hold the concentrated grief of communities that buried their young faster than they could process the loss. Cindy and her family had no relatives in that cemetery. They were simply curious. Then Brian said, " Mom, look." A disembodied child's hand was crawling up through the grave, raising its fingers as if feeling for where it was going. Cindy's mom said, "Run". They ran. When they came back months later with a flashlight, there was nothing there at all.

Accidental Exorcism: True Ghost Stories from Victoria BC with Brennan Storr08 Apr 202600:21:09

Hey, it's Michelle, and this one is a little different from our usual calls. This week, I am joined by Brennan Storr, host of The Ghost Story Guys podcast and author of A Strange Little Place: The Hauntings and Unexplained Events of One Small Town. Brennan spends a lot of his time collecting and telling other people's true ghost stories. This time, he is telling his own. This is now available as a full video episode on both Spotify and YouTube, so you can watch as well as listen for the first time.

Brennan grew up a skeptic. He did not believe in ghosts, did not look for them, and had no particular interest in the paranormal. Then he moved to Victoria, British Columbia, one of the most historically haunted cities in Canada, and something at his workplace changed that permanently.

It started with a shadowy figure. A dark shape Brennan glimpsed at the edge of his vision that had no business being there. What followed was a series of real ghost encounters with shadow figures that grew more frequent and more unsettling over time. Not threatening exactly, but wrong in a way that Brennan struggled to put into words. The experiences left him feeling genuinely depressed and unwell in a way he could not explain and could not shake.

What changed everything was an elderly Indigenous man named Dennis. Through Dennis, Brennan was introduced to the concept of the wrong spirit, the idea that something had attached itself to him that did not belong there. What followed was a spiritual cleansing ritual that Brennan describes as one of the most profoundly disorienting and clarifying experiences of his life. He walked in as a skeptic, carrying something heavy. He walked out changed.

The shadow figures have not entirely gone away. But Brennan's relationship to them has shifted in ways that this episode will make you think about long after it ends. This is a true ghost story about what happens when the person who collects haunting tales becomes the one being haunted.

Brennan Storr is the host of The Ghost Story Guys and the co-host of Fear Daily with Southern Gothic creator Brandon Schexnayder. His book A Strange Little Place is available now.

April Ghouls: True Ghost Stories from Nova Scotia, San Francisco, and Ecuador01 Apr 202600:23:45

Hey, it's Michelle, and happy April. I figured the only appropriate way to kick off the month was with three calls that will make you question every sound you hear in your house tonight. There is a full video for this episode on both Spotify and YouTube, so you can watch as well as listen.

Three callers. Three true ghost stories from three completely different corners of the world. And every single one of them is real.

Hannah from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, introduces us to Edith. Edith lives in a converted Victorian home that is now a music school, and she has opinions. She turns the dishwasher on and off on command. She flicks the lights when the kids misbehave. She does not tolerate angry energy in her space. And when the school moved to a new building a few blocks away, Edith moved with them. Hannah was staring right at that dishwasher when it turned itself off. So was the whole choir.

Then James from San Francisco calls in from the early nineties with a story about a murder house on High Street and what happened when he tried to sage the basement where the blood had run. The room got colder the moment he lit the sage. Light bulbs popped. Windows slammed. James ran. He did not go back to do laundry there again.

Edwin from Scary FM joins us from Ecuador, where he is staying in a house with a history that nobody in the family likes to talk about. Footsteps on the second floor when no one is up there. A knock at the front door with no one outside. And a dog who is too lazy to investigate but will not stop barking at the stairs. Edwin has been rationalizing these things for a long time. After the night, the footsteps came fast and heavy across the ceiling while he and his wife sat at the kitchen counter, and he stopped trying.

Three true ghost stories. One very eventful April.

Real Ghost Stories For Relaxing Evenings: Marilyn Monroe's Ghost, a Dogman at the Door, and 300 Bodies in a Georgia Barn04 Mar 202600:28:11

Hey, it's Michelle, and this compilation is a big one: nine calls covering everything from a ghostly Marilyn Monroe on a California beach to a Dogman at a sliding glass door. Now available as a full video episode on both Spotify and YouTube for the first time.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana opens with a story from a 1977 trip to Hollywood with her grandparents. Walking the beach at the Pacific, they encountered a confused, disoriented woman in a white evening gown who did not seem to know who or where she was. It was Marilyn Monroe. According to a Hollywood Reporter piece, Marilyn's spirit has reportedly been seen everywhere from her own former home to the ladies' room of the Hollywood Roosevelt.

Adam from Decatur, Illinois, a twenty-year paranormal investigator, calls in about the one time he learned the answer to a question he'd always been asked: can something follow you home?

Lisa, an Aboriginal woman of the Gomeroi Nation, calls in with a story from when she was four years old, waking to a tall, thin figure in a hat standing in her bedroom doorway. She has carried the memory her whole life and turned it into the artwork and inspiration for her own show, Proppa Scary Podcast, featuring First Nations paranormal stories.

Phil from Chattanooga shares a story that sounds like fiction but is disturbingly real. A young Marine took a shortcut through the woods near the old Tri State Crematorium in Noble, Georgia, and found himself surrounded by shadow figures. The crematorium's owner had been discovered storing over 300 uncremated bodies in a barn rather than cremating them, a scandal that leveled the small town when it broke. You can fact-check every detail of this one.

Cindy Ketron returns with a second story from the 1980s, when her family came face to face with a six-foot, black-haired creature at their sliding glass door, growling and slapping the glass. Her father, convinced it was a werewolf, ran for a chest of silver coins. It worked. This is the Michigan Dogman, a documented cryptid with over a hundred independent reported sightings.

Hendel from Long Island describes three increasingly strange nights at a Los Angeles hostel, including a roommate whose body impossibly repositioned itself mid-laugh, and a violent, room-shaking earthquake that no seismic record or hostel staff member can confirm ever happened.

Christina, host of Espooky Tales on the Scary FM Network, recalls the night her chair was yanked out from under her by something her younger brother had been warning them about the whole time: shadow people who apparently do not like being mocked.

Carla shares the shortest and most quietly moving story of the batch, an ongoing, loving presence from a partner who passed in 2020 that she describes simply as a gift that keeps giving.

And Nellie from Plainview, Illinois closes the episode with a Mexican folk phenomenon her grandmother always warned her about, se te subió el muerto, the dead climbing on top of you while you sleep. At eighteen, she felt exactly that.

Nine real callers. Nine true ghost stories.

A Backcountry Nightmare: The Hook Man Legend Was Real, Something Circled Our Campsite, and a Haunted Pekingese11 Feb 202600:22:11

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's four calls span a childhood spent finding comfort in the strangest of places, the true and unsolved crime behind one of America's most famous urban legends, two hours of being circled in the Oregon wilderness, and a dog who came with a previous owner attached. Now available as a full video episode on both Spotify and YouTube for the first time.

Erica from San Diego, now living in Eastern North Carolina, returns with a story she says slipped her mind until recently. Growing up in an abusive household, she would retreat to a closet space in her bedroom during her parents' worst fights. There, a girl named Sally would find her. Elongated face, dark hollow eyes with no visible whites, an expression stuck in a permanent frown; she should have been terrifying. Instead she offered comfort, always asking if Erica was okay, always encouraging her to go play outside with the other kids. Erica still knows every child she grew up with on that block. None of them remember a girl named Sally.

Bobby from Little Rock, Arkansas shares his grandmother's firsthand account of where the Hook Man legend actually came from, and it is not the urban myth everyone thinks they know. In 1946, a masked gunman known as the Phantom Killer terrorized Texarkana, attacking couples parked in secluded lovers' lanes and ultimately murdering five people before vanishing without a trace. The case has never been solved. In the aftermath, rumors spread of a man with a hook for a hand, and within a decade that detail calcified into the campfire story every American teenager has heard. Bobby's grandmother lived through the real terror as a teenager in Texarkana and never parked on a secluded road again for the rest of her life.

Rob from Eugene, Oregon calls in with a backcountry camping trip in the Cascades that he still cannot explain. Something began circling his and his friend Chris's campsite just outside the firelight for two full hours, walking on two legs, never approaching, never leaving. At 11 PM it stopped completely, and the entire forest went dead silent. At 3 AM, slow, deliberate breathing came from right outside their tent. Rob has not been back to that area. Chris has given up backcountry camping entirely.

And Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana closes the episode with the story of Tamara, a Pekingese who came to her family in 1981 after two previous owners connected to the dog had died. On the first night, the dog growled and barked at something unseen until Cindy addressed the room directly and told the previous owner's spirit that Tamara was loved and would be cared for. A window flew open, the lights went out, and the dog let out a long mournful howl before everything went still again. The family kept Tamara for ten more peaceful years.

The Woman You Can Only See When You're Not Looking28 Jan 202600:20:37

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's six calls cover more paranormal ground than almost any other episode this season.

James from San Francisco returns with his third call, this time about his decade working at UCSF Medical Center on Parnassus, one of the most documented haunted hospitals in California. The kitchen where he worked used to be a morgue. Volcanic smoke rose from urinals with no explanation. Voices spoke in bathrooms that fell silent the moment he opened the door. Invisible hands pulled at his jacket on the basement stairs. He heard rumors of an exorcism on the eighth floor of the Children's Wing in the early 1980s. James has now called in three times and every building he touches has a story.

Melissa from Pittsburgh calls in about Graystone House, a stone mansion built in the 1700s as a stagecoach inn and brothel, later converted into a group home for teenage boys. Every single day at exactly 6 PM the doorbell rings across multiple doors. Nobody is ever there. Faucets turn on at full blast in empty rooms. Whatever is in that house has been doing this long enough that it has a schedule.

A caller shares a true paranormal story about a five-bedroom rental house with one room nobody can keep occupied. Four different tenants have rented the room by the main entryway, and all four ended up in serious addiction or rehab. The connection between that specific room and that specific pattern of suffering raises a question that this episode seriously sits with. What if some spaces hold hunger? What if desperation can soak into walls the same way smoke does. Michelle explores Dr Gabor Mate's concept of hungry ghosts and the Buddhist tradition of beings trapped in endless cycles of craving as a lens for understanding what that room might be doing.

Chuck from Upstate New York calls in about the woman in the empty lot in his neighborhood, the site of a house that burned down decades ago. She stands in the weeds and broken concrete, wearing something pale and perfectly still. But only in peripheral vision. The moment you look directly at her, she is not there. Chuck and multiple neighbors have all seen her. Nobody has ever seen her move.

Diane from Sedona is a practicing diviner who calls in with a Ouija board session that crossed a line she did not expect to cross. She was helping a man contact his deceased father when her hands went ice cold, and her body began shaking uncontrollably. She describes feeling squished inside her own body, making room for something else. She has no memory of what was said. When she came back to herself, the skeptic she had been reading for was pale and shaking because she had told him things only his father could have known. The planchette had kept moving with only her finger on it.

And Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a family story from the Great Depression. Her great-grandfather was working in a hayfield when a man in a business suit appeared with a notepad and pencil and offered to solve his problems in exchange for something. Great-grandfather asked what would happen if he simply did not want the offer. The devil did not know what to do with that answer and disappeared. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do to something that wants power over you is refuse to be afraid of it.

A Spirit Plays Ding Dong Ditch and More True Ghost Stories: A Man Walked Through a Door, a Doll Made from a Dead Girl's Hair, and a Heartbeat Until Death07 Jan 202600:16:06

Hey, it's Michelle, and you all brought it this week. I got actual goosebumps going through the voicemails.

Sarah from Luther, Alabama, calls in with a true ghost story from her time living in Florida. She and her ex were pulling into a friend's driveway when she saw a man standing at the front door. Long hair, shorts, t-shirt, AND she could see his socks. A completely ordinary-looking person. He walked straight into the door and was gone. When they went inside, she kept asking if anyone else was there. Nobody was. When she mentioned it to the homeowner, he told her his brother-in-law had seen the exact same man walking through his house. The same description. The same door.

Tessa calls in with a haunted doll story that is unlike almost anything else in the archive. She grew up as a military kid, and when she was five, her family rented a three-story Victorian house in East Texas. The attic held a long glass case filled with about a hundred porcelain dolls belonging to the owner. One with red hair, green eyes, and a blue silk dress caught Tessa's heart. Her father said no and locked the attic door. A month later, Tessa came home and found the red-haired doll sitting on her bed. Her father took it straight back to the attic. The door was still locked. His key was still in his pocket.

James, a caller from San Francisco shares a story from 1993 about working alone in an estate jewelry office on Post Street. One afternoon, the doorbell rang, nobody was there, and he saw a tall man in a red flannel shirt in the hallway, whom he took to be his coworker Brett. Seconds later, the phone rang. It was Brett calling from outside the building. The doorbells kept ringing the entire time he worked there.

Ashley calls in with a Queen Mary story that did not end when her family left the ship. On a tour with twelve family members, a younger cousin got scared, and her Aunt L took him to the elevator alone. A small hand grabbed her knee. Nobody was there. Back home in Utah, the family found a little girl in a blue gown in one of their pool photographs. Ashley's mom began writing a book about the experience. Every time she sat down to work on it, the computer crashed, sent the manuscript in unreadable code, and shut itself off. Ashley started hearing wet squelching footsteps in the basement at night and found small puddles on the carpet with no explanation. Lights flickered. Children's laughter echoed through the house. The second Ashley's mom typed the final word of the book, everything stopped. Whatever needed that story told got what it needed and was done.

And finally, Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a story about her grandfather after her grandmother Grace passed away in 1982. Alone in the house, he woke at 1 AM to thumping in the bedroom and called out Grace's name. From that night forward, he heard a heartbeat every single night until he died.

A special shoutout this week to Glen from Windsor, Nova Scotia, who called in to wish their mom a Merry Christmas. Glen's mom, thank you for listening. Your child loves you very much.

Real Ghost Stories for Stormy Afternoons: A Haunted Mortuary House, Another Woman in White, and a Dog Ghost Still Waiting After 100 Years26 Nov 202500:18:11

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's three calls take us into a former mortuary in Michigan, a terrifying encounter on a dark road in upstate New York, and a hundred-year-old story of loyalty at a pet cemetery in Los Angeles. Now available as a full video episode on both Spotify and YouTube for the first time.

Tony from Ypsilanti, Michigan calls in with a story from the early 1990s about his college girlfriend's Victorian-era apartment, where a full loaf of bread once vanished from one cabinet only to reappear moments later in another. Beds shook. Showers turned on in the night. On one occasion, with every roommate confirmed away and the building otherwise empty, Tony heard what sounded like ten people walking through the house. A hidden trapdoor system running from the basement to the top floor suggested the building once had a small elevator, and research at the local historical society revealed the house had operated as a mortuary around 1890. A camcorder left recording overnight in a corner nobody could reach without being filmed shut off on its own after thirty-five minutes, with a fully charged battery. Ten years later, Tony returned to find new college-aged tenants who confirmed everything was still happening exactly as it had before.

Angela from upstate New York calls in with a genuinely harrowing encounter on Route 9 late at night. A woman in a long white dress stood motionless in the middle of the road, hair covering her face, refusing to respond. As Angela hesitated, a man emerged from the trees and began walking toward her car. She reversed away as the woman slowly turned her head, revealing a face Angela describes as simply wrong. Police found no trace of either figure at the scene, but told her she was far from the first person to report a woman in white on that same stretch of road, a local legend that has persisted for decades. Angela still cannot decide which possibility unsettles her more, that it was a ghost, or that someone was using the legend as bait.

And Tessa from Los Angeles closes the episode with the story of Kabar, the beloved Doberman of silent film legend Rudolph Valentino. When Valentino died suddenly in 1926, Kabar reportedly began howling at the exact moment of his owner's death nearly three thousand miles away, later running off and returning with his paws worn down as if he had tried to walk cross-country to find him. At Kabar's grave in the Los Angeles Pet Cemetery, Tessa called his name as a dare. She felt a cold, wet sensation move across her hand exactly like a dog's nose and tongue, and when she looked down, her hand was visibly damp, on a dry, sunny day with no water anywhere nearby.

Three real callers. Three true ghost stories.

After Death Experiences and Electronic Hauntings: Real Ghost Stories of the Unexplained12 Nov 202500:20:24

1. Tyler from Colorado --Tyler shares a deeply unsettling paranormal experience that began after his kayaking accident left him clinically dead for three minutes. Since being revived, he's been experiencing disturbing phenomena, but here's what makes this truly terrifying: other people are experiencing it too. His roommate heard Tyler's voice calling from an empty bedroom while Tyler sat right beside him. His girlfriend heard it coming from his car while he stood next to her. His own father heard it from the basement. Most chilling of all, Tyler himself has heard his own voice calling to him from empty rooms. He also sees patches of "glitching air" that look like TV static, and his friend Marissa witnessed one materialize at a coffee shop.

2. Emma -- The Life-Sized Clown That Wouldn't Stay Gone Emma recounts a childhood nightmare involving a life-sized knitted clown her cousins purchased from a thrift store. The clown would move on its own, appearing in different rooms despite being locked away. When they finally locked it in outdoor dog kennels, it was found inside the house the next morning, sitting on the couch. But the most terrifying moment came when Emma, her sister, and their cousins saw the clown running, like a human, through tall grass 50 meters away before vanishing completely. When they checked, it was no longer on their uncle's truck, where he'd placed it for disposal. The clown was never seen again, but the mystery remains: where did it go, and what caused it to move?

3. Carlos from San Antonio, Texas -- Danny Still Works the Night Shift Carlos shares his brief but terrifying experience working the night shift at a 24-hour diner off I-10. On his first day, his manager showed him a memorial shrine for Danny, a beloved cook who died of a heart attack in 2015, and casually warned him, "You'll see him sometimes. Just acknowledge him." Carlos thought it was a joke until his second week, when he encountered a figure in a cook's uniform blocking the walk-in freezer doorway at 3 AM.

4. Jenna from Boise, Idaho -- The Red Eyes Outside Her Third-Floor Window Jenna describes a two-month nightmare involving two red eyes that appear outside her third-floor apartment window every night around 11:30 PM. Despite being three stories up with no balcony, fire escape, or ledge, just a sheer drop to the parking lot, these glowing red eyes hover and stare through her window with malevolent intent. Her boyfriend witnessed them too, and shockingly, her neighbor on the second floor has been seeing the same red eyes outside her window for months.

5. Marcus from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- The Battlefield That Refuses to Be Photographed. Marcus, a professional photographer, recounts his eerie experience at Triangular Field near Devil's Den in Gettysburg. While attempting to photograph the Civil War battlefield at golden hour, all of his high-end camera equipment simultaneously stopped working: multiple cameras, backup batteries, and even his phone. The moment he stepped away from the field, everything powered back on perfectly. Later research revealed dozens of similar reports: cameras malfunction at Triangular Field, photos come out blank or washed out, and visitors feel watched by unseen presences. Marcus experienced an overwhelming sensation of being observed by many eyes from the rocks, trees, and the field itself.

6. Tony from North Dakota -- The Clown in the Ceiling Who Made Deals Tony shares a disturbing childhood memory of a clown doll that would speak to him every night from a hatch in his ceiling. The clown was friendly, listening to Tony vent about his day and having conversations—but with one terrifying rule: if Tony slept with his hands or feet outside the blanket, the clown would come down and take them. To this day, Tony cannot sleep with his limbs uncovered. This only happened in one specific house, ruling out hallucination.

True Ghost Stories: A Headless Ghost Wanted to Play Cards and a Deacon's Deadly Prayers22 Oct 202500:19:39

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a glass that exploded with nobody near it, a deacon whose prayers had a disturbing track record, a hospice patient who found his way home right on time, a real Cold War legend that still haunts Eastern Europe, and a headless ghost who just wanted in on a card game.

Christina from Phoenix, Arizona calls in again, this time about moving into her aunt's house, where she'd sensed something before she even signed on. A tall shadow figure slipped into the garage the first day she visited. After moving in, constant footsteps and distant voices filled the house whenever she was alone, and a warning feeling stopped her cold at the garage door one night, the kind of instinctive dread she describes like the moment right before a car accident. After her aunt moved out and the house sat mostly empty, a freshly washed glass exploded on the drying rack with nobody near it, followed days later by a glass candle holder that split perfectly in half on its own. Both her husband and her best friend insist the activity follows Christina specifically, stopping when she leaves and starting again the moment she returns, something she's lived with since childhood in the form of doorknobs that visibly shake as if something is trying to get in, something she refuses to open.

Helen from Tupelo, Mississippi calls in with a story about her Uncle John, a respected deacon known for unusually powerful prayer. When his daughter fell in love with a man he disapproved of, he asked her to wait while he prayed on it, and within three days her fiancé died suddenly of spinal meningitis. It was only afterward, in conversation with her aunt, that Helen learned this wasn't the first time someone standing in her uncle's way had met a sudden end, and her aunt's only explanation was four words that still haunt her, "there have been others."

Donnie from New Mexico, a hospice nurse, returns with a story about his friend Nicky, a resident with Down Syndrome and part of Donnie's daily coffee routine. One morning Nikki arrived in tears, having spent the night hearing his mother calling him home for dinner and unable to remember the way. He seemed better after their usual visit. He died before lunch that same day.

Dimitri, calling from Chicago but raised in Poland in the early 1980s, shares the Cold War legend of the Black Volga, a black car with white curtained windows said to snatch people off the street, never to be seen again. Some said it was the KGB. Others said organ thieves. Dimitri's grandmother was certain it was the devil himself, collecting souls. At nine years old, Dimitri and a friend watched one slow past them on the sidewalk, curtain shifting as if someone inside was looking out, before they ran the entire way home.

And Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana closes the episode with a story from her great-grandfather's card game the night before a funeral for a man decapitated in a farming accident, his head never recovered. Partway through the game, her great-grandmother looked up and asked who exactly had joined them, a headless figure sitting at the table, apparently there to play cards.

True Ghost Stories: Five People, One Apartment, and the Gray Lady Who Watched Them All15 Oct 202500:14:36

Hey, it's Michelle, and this episode is a little different from our normal format. Instead of separate callers with separate stories, this week is five people, including me, sharing our experiences with the same ghost, in the same apartment, over the same span of years. Apartment 3F in the Mission District of San Francisco. The hub of our friend group in our late twenties. And a woman in gray that every single person who ever stayed there eventually saw, and nobody talked about until now.

Marcus dated someone who lived in 3F, and one night, walking past the kitchen to use the bathroom, he froze at the sight of a woman's outline standing there watching him. He blinked. She was gone. He broke up with his girlfriend a few months later for unrelated reasons and admits he was relieved to stop visiting the apartment.

Rebecca was a frequent visitor and saw the gray shape in the kitchen more times than she can count. One night while doing dishes with Sarah, she turned around to grab a towel and found a woman standing directly behind her. She dropped the glass she was holding.

I saw her myself, coming home from a comedy show around 2 or 3 in the morning. I walked to the kitchen for water and turned to find a woman my exact height standing eye level with me. Big frizzy gray hair. Gray sweater. Gray skirt. Sensible shoes. Everything about her was gray. I startled her as much as she startled me, and then she was gone. That is still the only full-bodied apparition I have ever seen, even after everything this podcast has shown me since.

Sarah lived in 3F for eight years and rarely talks about what happened there. It started about a month after she moved in, waking to the feeling of being watched, opening her eyes to find the woman standing at the foot of her bed in the dark. Over time she got closer, standing beside the bed, and eventually Sarah felt the mattress shift under the weight of someone sitting on the other side while she lay frozen, too afraid to look.

Alex, Sarah's roommate, moved in already having heard the rumors and dismissed them, until jewelry started ending up on the floor and a gray shape began appearing in the corner of her eye. One night she woke to find the figure standing by her closet watching her sleep. Exhausted and fed up, Alex eventually sat up in bed and yelled at the presence to leave. The room changed. She was never bothered again.

I never found any documented history for that specific building, but the folklore around gray ladies runs deep across cultures, sometimes connected to the mythical Graeae of Greek mythology, often tied to heartbroken women, and frequently associated with former nurses, teachers, and caretakers in specific buildings. The most famous is the Gray Lady of Hampton Court in the UK, believed to be Sybil Penn, nurse to four Tudor monarchs, who contracted smallpox nursing Queen Elizabeth I back to health and later died from it herself. When her tomb was disturbed during renovations in 1829, hauntings began. Our gray lady of Apartment 3F never hurt anyone. She just wanted to be seen and to keep doing her rounds.

Five real callers. One true ghost story that took years to finally tell out loud.

True Ghost Stories from the Edge of Sleep08 Oct 202500:18:12

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's seven calls include handprints circling a locked car in the middle of nowhere, a dead rock guitarist who keeps showing up when people play his most famous riff, an old man who finally got the message to leave someone alone, a sigh whispered directly into someone's ear in an empty locked room, and a legendary bandaged figure on the Oregon coast.

Stevie from California calls in about a solo camping trip on BLM land near Yosemite, locking herself and her dog Mochi into her car during a windstorm for extra warmth. Around 3 am, Mochi began barking in a deep, unfamiliar growl completely unlike her usual voice. In the morning, Stevie found handprints and forehead smudges circling every single window of the car, as if someone had walked the entire perimeter trying to look inside.

Johnny from Kansas calls in about repeatedly sensing the presence of guitarist Randy Rhoads while playing his music, watching or lying beside him mid-practice. Rhoads, a founding member of Quiet Riot and lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, died in 1982 at just 25 years old when the small plane he was riding in crashed while attempting to buzz Osbourne's tour bus.

Frank calls in about a basement apartment where an unseen presence tinkered nightly in empty rooms, eventually escalating to a half-visible figure standing in his bedroom doorway. Exhausted from bartending, Frank finally sat up and firmly demanded to be left alone. The presence never returned.

Emily calls in about her toddler twins, who both independently and matter-of-factly described a girl standing at their bedroom window wanting to play, insisting their mother could see her too.

Erin from Bloomington, Indiana calls in about a quiet solo night at home, drifting off to sleep when a long, tired sigh came from directly beside her ear, close enough that she felt breath stir against her cheek, despite being completely and verifiably alone in a locked house.

Jess from Oregon calls in about the legendary Bandage Man of Cannon Beach, a figure said to be a badly injured logger lost forever on his way to find help. While parked near the coast one night, Jess and friends heard a thud against the truck's rear window and saw a bandaged figure pressed against the glass, gone without a trace the moment they fled.

And Cindy Ketron closes the episode with a decades-old family Halloween tradition: an elderly traveling woman encountered on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis in 1981, who accepted food and water from Cindy's family before opening her carpetbag to reveal an actual sack of human bones, laughing at their horror before walking calmly away.

Seven real callers. Seven true ghost stories.

Real Ghost Stories for the Witching Hour24 Sep 202500:17:44

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's six calls include an inherited ashtray that filled itself with ash in an empty locked house, a door that slammed shut on its own at 2:40 in the morning, a hospice patient who said thank you after time of death was already recorded, a kindergartner talking to a woman his mother can't see, a famous actor multiple people swear carries something dark, and a tall thin man who kept checking to see if someone was really asleep.

Anna from Tacoma, Washington calls in about a heavy glass ashtray inherited from her late aunt, found spotless in a cupboard and left sitting on the dining table while she gardened outside for an hour. When she came back inside, the previously clean ashtray was filled with a heap of cigarette ash, no butts, just ash, with a faint stale smoke smell in the air, despite every door, window, and the basement being fully locked and undisturbed.

Marshall from St. Cloud, Florida calls in shaken after his bedroom door slammed shut on its own at 2:40 in the morning while heading back to bed, describing an unmistakable cold in the room and lingering goosebumps he still felt while telling the story live.

Donnie, a hospice nurse from New Mexico, calls in about a patient whose time of death he'd just finished recording, only to hear a clear "thank you" in the patient's own voice, followed by a cold breeze from a nearby window, in what should have been an empty room.

Julia calls in wondering if other parents have experienced something similar with their kids, after her kindergartner described nightly conversations with a woman dressed in old-fashioned clothing who smiles but never moves, and who reportedly told him not to tell his mother about her.

Jimmy, who worked in Hollywood, calls in about a famous actor he won't name, someone multiple people on set independently describe as bringing a palpable, mood-killing darkness into any room he enters, alongside rumors tied to his rapid rise to fame and a string of personal tragedies that followed.

And Christina from Phoenix, Arizona returns with a story from a podiatry office where she repeatedly glimpsed a man standing at the end of a hallway from the corner of her eye, who vanished each time she looked directly. The activity escalated during a lunchtime nap, when she woke to find a tall, thin man in basketball shorts crouched at her feet, apparently checking whether she was awake, gone the instant she jumped up. Haunting Dreams: True Ghost Stories, Shadow Men, and The Girl in Red Who Died Before Anyone Knew She Was Gone10 Sep 202500:16:34

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a dream that matched a historic inn's most famous tragedy detail for detail, a preacher who saw a shadow in a room with no light source and has never gone back, a childhood friend in red whose footprints stopped mid-step in the snow, and mysterious sage candles that appeared the moment someone finally admitted their home felt haunted.

An anonymous caller shares a dream from a weekend trip to the Bush House Inn in Index, Washington, in which her husband died and she chose to take her own life rather than live without him. The next morning, lobby literature revealed the inn's most famous ghost story: a woman who once believed her husband died in a mining accident, took her own life before learning it wasn't true, and has haunted the building ever since.

Emily from Chicago calls in about repeated tapping on her foot one night, initially dismissed as her cat, only to find the cat sound asleep downstairs and the front door standing wide open.

Sabrina Wu, calling in again from Los Angeles, revisits a childhood spent dreading specific corners of her Michigan home, a feeling she now suspects may have been validated when her mother mysteriously filled the house with sage-scented candles the moment Sabrina finally admitted, as an adult, that she'd always believed the home was haunted.

Elijah, a preacher of over 20 years from Tennessee, calls in about a house near the railroad tracks locals call cursed, where he was asked to pray after a young couple reported heavy nightly footsteps stopping outside their bedroom door. Walking room to room reading Psalms, he encountered a man-sized shadow moving across a wall with no light source anywhere nearby, and hasn't returned to that stretch of road since.

And Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana closes the episode with a fifth-grade memory of a friend named Sarah, always dressed head to toe in red, who followed her home from school daily until one winter afternoon her footprints stopped abruptly in the middle of the schoolyard, disappearing entirely. Cindy later learned Sarah had died in a car accident near the school, despite never having attended it.

True Ghost Stories: The Woman in the Red Dress Sat Down at the Diner… Then Vanished03 Sep 202500:23:33

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a man whose soul left his body nightly for months, footsteps and children crying from an empty ceiling, a bright, unexplained light that raced toward a building and vanished, decades of restaurant hauntings from a longtime worker, and children's laughter echoing across a locked, empty playground at midnight.

Comedian Sabrina Wu calls in again from New York, sharing experiences from her ex's apartment, constant footsteps overhead despite being on the top floor, unexplained baby crying from the ceiling, and a bathroom light that flared unnaturally bright the moment she walked past it during a night already spent deep in ghost story research.

Brett calls in about living beside a school playground, where the familiar daytime sounds of children playing continue to echo across the field at 11 pm and midnight, long after the lights go dark and only teenagers occasionally pass through, a detail his dog reacts to as well.

Jessa, a medical courier in Pennsylvania, calls in about a delivery to a nursing home built on the site of a former school, where a glass door slammed shut on its own and a bright white light sped toward the entrance exactly like headlights, only facing the wrong direction to belong to any real vehicle, before vanishing entirely in seconds.

Linda, a 73-year-old lifelong restaurant worker, shares three separate encounters from her decades in the industry: a smiling man visible only in a bar mirror, a chair that shot across an empty floor with an audible scrape and no one nearby, and a woman in a red dress who faded from a corner booth as Linda approached to tell her they were closing.

And Khyelle from Los Angeles closes the episode with a lengthy account of what he later identified as recurring astral projection, beginning with his eyes and mouth forced into position, full body paralysis, and his consciousness leaving his body accompanied by a loud buzzing sound. Over several months, Khyelle experienced nightly out-of-body travel across the globe and into space, culminating in one deeply unsettling episode where he was forcibly pulled back into his body the instant he attempted to step onto the dark side of the moon, accompanied by an overwhelming sense that he was not meant to see whatever was there.

True Ghost Stories: He Heard Crying at Green Lake… Then Learned the Dark Truth27 Aug 202500:20:09

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a pale floating face pressed against a window and witnessed by two skeptics at once, a recurring precognitive dread that came true twice, blurry human shapes appearing in photos inside a haunted Irish church, an imaginary childhood friend who sounds like anything but imaginary, and unexplained crying circling an empty lake in Seattle.

Mark from outside Des Moines, Iowa calls in about a night at his friend Dan's house, where both men simultaneously saw a pale gray face pressed directly against the window glass, shoulders too high and head seemingly floating, eyes unnaturally dark. It vanished without a sound in seconds, and when they ran outside, the wet grass held no footprints anywhere, despite the only approach being a gravel driveway that would have made noise.

An anonymous caller shares two separate experiences of overwhelming, intrusive dread focused on specific people days before their deaths, first as a child fixated on a classmate named Molly who died in a car accident, and again years later, unable to recall the name of a well-liked schoolmate the exact day he was fatally struck by a car in New York.

Harriet, calling from London about a trip to a church outside Galway, Ireland, shares the local legend of a preacher who reportedly dropped dead mid-sermon in the 1800s just before revealing a secret to his congregation. While photographing the church, she captured a run of images with an unexplained blurry human-shaped light in the center, despite no bright light source present.

Rebecca calls in after reconnecting with her sister about a childhood imaginary friend named Dodd, only for her sister's unprompted description (splotchy, patchy hair, sickly pale skin, dark black eyes, and a perpetually wet appearance) to leave them both realizing Dodd may not have been imaginary at all.

And Dan from Seattle closes the episode with an unsettling walk around Green Lake, where he heard crying seemingly surrounding him from every direction with no one visible anywhere nearby. Later research led him to the 1926 case of Sylvia Gaines, a young woman murdered and thrown into the lake by her father, whose translucent, weeping figure has reportedly been seen wandering the area ever since.

True Ghost Stories: A Man With a Hatchet in His Head Chased Their Car Down a Country Road06 Aug 202500:18:15

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a doppelganger that impersonated a caller's own mother, a five-year recurring cryptid encounter finally caught on camera, a dead grandmother who waved hello from across a bedroom, a spirit that arrived the same moment a medical examiner van pulled into the alley, and a bleeding phantom driver who chased a car down a rural road.

James from Wytheville, Virginia calls in about a spirit throughout his childhood home that impersonated his mother so convincingly it once relayed instructions she'd never actually given, and appeared in silhouette one night before turning and walking directly through the bedroom wall.

Jorge calls in about a bipedal, hairy, dog-snouted creature with long claws he's observed around his property for five years, growling at him and finally caught on video scaling a ten-foot privacy fence hand over hand before leaping sideways off the top.

Evelyn from Fremont, Michigan calls in about waving at what she believed was her grandmother standing in her bedroom as a young child, later realizing the woman had died four years before Evelyn was ever born. Years later, at eleven, she heard the same voice greet her by name from an empty room.

Christina from Phoenix, Arizona returns with a story from a Tempe rental that never felt right, where she felt an angry presence standing directly over her on the couch during a fight with her husband, who remained in bed the entire time. Moments later, she spotted a medical examiner's van parked in the alley behind their house.

And Cindy Ketron closes the episode with a terrifying encounter on a rural road in Southern Indiana, where a red pickup truck aggressively tailgated her and her brother, cursing and gesturing, before pulling alongside to reveal a hatchet lodged in the driver's head and blood covering his face, fading from view entirely moments before they passed a roadside cemetery.

Indigenous Ghost Stories with Proppa Scary Podcast: True Ghost Stories and A Yowie Encounter11 Jun 202500:35:19

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week is a special one. I'm handing the mic over to Lisa from Proppa Scary Podcast, who traveled all the way from Australia to host an episode built entirely around First Nations ghost stories, with five callers sharing yarns passed down through their families and communities.

Shay from Western Australia calls in with a story about a spirit said to follow the men in his family, generation after generation, from boyhood until it decides they've become men. Taps on windows, voices claiming the room, and a moment where his little brother swore he saw someone standing in a doorway that Shay insists was empty the whole time built toward one terrifying night, his younger brother waking unable to breathe, a spider-like hand covering his face. Their father brought in an elder to smoke the house and ask whatever it was to leave. It worked. (Follow him on IG @cee.dub23 for more creative and funny content.)

Cass from Northwestern New South Wales calls in about the Min Min lights, a phenomenon he'd been warned about his whole life without fully believing it. Driving through the mountains at night, his mother suddenly demanded they pull over, moments before a bright red light appeared floating beneath the rearview mirror and his brother's car door fell open mid-drive. Researcher Dr. Curtis Roman, a Larrakia man from Darwin, has documented that Indigenous people from the bush are rarely frightened by these lights, unlike those from urban areas, and many sightings are reported near water, moving with a serpentine motion some connect to the Rainbow Serpent.

Lisa herself shares several stories from a period living in a remote rainforest community, including encounters with a spirit woman believed to have been murdered during the Australian gold rush, said to scream in men's ears and push them from a nearby waterfall in an act of ongoing revenge. She describes seeing a woman with long blonde hair riding in a friend's truck, only for the friend to later insist he'd been driving alone the entire time, along with nights spent listening to what sounded like a corroboree carrying through the bush, and a car that stalled mid-crossing in a rising river before starting again at the exact moment it mattered most.

Paul from the Maningrida region calls in about a night his family saw figures standing on the back of his truck that he insists were never there, followed by a car that turned itself on and began honking with no one inside, and a presence he believes followed him all the way to Darwin.

And Tim, whose mob comes from the Armidale and Kempsey area, closes the episode with two stories, a night at Merrick Dam when he heard massive bipedal footsteps moving through the grass toward him in the dark, and a broad daylight encounter years later with what he believes was a yowie, a seven to eight foot tall, broad-shouldered, gray-haired creature that mimicked his and his son's footsteps before stepping behind a tree and vanishing without a trace. → Check out We’re Haunted Investigations TikTok: @were_haunted | YouTube: @werehaunted8791

True Ghost Stories: Birthday Cake Loving Spirits, A Ball of Light Shot Under the Bed at the Queen Mary, and a Father's Final Goodbye04 Jun 202500:21:13

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls take us into a soon-to-close haunted pub in Seattle, a father who visited two houses on the same night, a dead friend who wanted one more game of hide and seek, the most notorious stateroom aboard the Queen Mary, and a ghost who's never once missed a birthday party.

Sonja calls in about a night at the College Inn Pub in Seattle's University District, where she watched a figure sitting in a dark, closed-off seating area vanish the moment she looked twice. The bartender confirmed it immediately: the ghost of Howard Bach, a fisherman said to have been murdered there long ago, who still lingers after closing time and, according to legend, once played a piano that's since been destroyed. The College Inn Pub, built in 1909, closed its doors for good on June 15th, 2025, making this one of the last true ghost stories anyone will collect from that building.

Khyelle from Los Angeles calls in with a story from the night his father died. Sleeping in his mother's living room while the family grieved, he saw a tall figure in a white T-shirt move past, then moments later what appeared to be his father's silhouette, unmistakable because of his long dreadlocks. He screamed loud enough to bring his mother running, and the two searched the house together, finding no one. That same night, at a different house entirely, his father's stepchildren felt someone squeeze their foot at the end of the bed, exactly the gesture his father used to do to anyone whose foot hung off the couch.

Evelyn from Fremont, Michigan calls in about playing ghost in the graveyard as an eight-year-old, a game her friend had loved more than anyone, until that friend passed away. Two years later, playing the same game in the same spot, Evelyn heard a familiar voice by the slide and turned to see her deceased friend's face, smiling, pulling handfuls of hair from her own scalp. Evelyn ran, and none of the other kids believed a word of it.

Christy from Los Angeles, who lives with lifelong hypnagogic hallucinations and has learned to tell the difference between those and something else entirely, calls in about a birthday stay aboard the Queen Mary. In the middle of the night, a beam of light shot down above her bed, bounced off the wall, and slid completely underneath it, unlike anything her usual hallucinations have ever done. The next morning she learned their room sat two doors from Stateroom B340, the ship's most infamous cabin, closed to guests entirely due to activity so severe people demanded refunds, and reportedly home to a spirit named Jackie known for playing hide and seek.

And Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana closes the episode with an update on Little Rachel, the ghost of a young girl who died in a fire and has followed Cindy home for four years now. Rachel came along for Cindy's birthday shopping trip this week, picked out two new dolls, and, as always, refused to let her picture be taken by a single camera any paranormal investigator has ever brought around. She hasn't missed a birthday party yet.

True Ghost Stories That Keep Insomniacs Up All Night: A Jawa-Like Ghost with Red Eyes and a Little Boy in Late 1800s Clothing07 May 202500:21:17

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a story confirmed by a childhood friend decades later, a nun no one else could see, a coffee pot that shook on its own in front of a room full of witnesses, and a monster named Herbert who still shows up at a retirement home.

Noah Daniels, host of Real Hauntings Real Ghost Stories from Atlanta, Georgia calls in with two ghost stories thirty years apart. The first happened during a game of hide and seek at age eleven, when he tried to tag a "cheating" playmate darting across a dark room, and his hand went straight through it, a small figure with red reflective eyes that turned to look at him before everyone screamed and ran. Decades later, he mentioned the memory to that same friend, who finished the sentence for him before he could. The second happened thirty years later in a Las Vegas hotel room on Halloween night, when Noah woke at 3 AM to find a grayscale little boy in early 1900s dress staring at him, then a second look revealed the boy's father beside him, hand on his son's shoulder, both watching in complete silence. Noah now hosts his own show, Real Hauntings Real Ghost Stories (check out his episode “Ghost in My Bed” featuring Michelle).

Michael from Watertown, Massachusetts calls in about seeing a woman in a full blue nun's habit at his mechanic shop, confirmed by nobody else in the building despite there being no way she could have passed unseen. Months later, home and jobless, he experienced flickering lights and waking messages that escalated into what he describes as a genuine spiritual confrontation, one he says ended only after he prayed and experienced a vision of Jesus Christ that expelled the darkness entirely.

Christina from Phoenix, Arizona calls in with a series of encounters from an apartment beside a cemetery, starting with a solid, fully visible eight-year-old girl in gray clothing standing in her dining room in the middle of the night, one she made direct eye contact with before the girl turned and vanished through a solid wall. What followed included children's laughter heard by both her and her husband simultaneously, a child seen running down the hallway, nightly footsteps on a roof with no access above their top-floor unit, confirmed by a guest who asked why someone was up there, and a coffee pot that began shaking violently on the counter in front of a room full of friends, untouched.

Reid from Colorado Springs calls in about a childhood shadow figure so large its head brushed the ceiling, one that appeared repeatedly in his childhood bathroom doorway before eventually following him to a new home entirely, where it peeked around a corner, entered his room, and dissolved like fog.

And Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana closes the episode with a story about her brother Brian's childhood closet monster, an invisible presence named Herbert (though the rough audio makes it sound like "Pervert") who has followed him for decades and, according to Cindy, is now known to the nursing staff at his retirement home for occasionally tearing up the room at night.

True Ghost Stories: The Mattress Became an Endless Pit of Fire and a Woman Came Back for Her Things05 Mar 202500:23:26

Hey it's Michelle, and this week's six calls include a great-grandmother's dream warning, a crab-shaped ghost with piercing blue eyes, TV-static figures caught mid-attack, a lady who left her closet every single night for one specific purpose, and a memory so vivid it still can't be explained away decades later.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana returns with an update on her paranormal household. After visiting the Whispers Estate in Mitchell, Indiana, she came home with company, a second entity in addition to Little Rachel, this one a crab-shaped ghost with piercing blue eyes who favors hiding under the bed.

David from Kansas City calls in about his first apartment, where lifelong sleep paralysis episodes escalated into something he still can't fully explain. One morning, total blackness filled his bathroom and closet doorways despite daylight outside, a whisper called his name as if approaching him, and three loud bangs hit his door before two human-shaped figures made of what looked like TV static physically attacked him. He chanted for help until it stopped. The next morning, his front door was unlocked and four police vehicles surrounded the building, a neighbor at an adjacent complex had murdered his girlfriend that same night.

Brittany from Riverton, Utah calls in about clearing out her late great-uncle's home, where a couple hired to help ended up taking home several belongings with the family's blessing. Days later, one of them called in a panic asking to return everything, a woman named Ruth had come to him in a dream demanding her things back. Ruth was Brittany's fiercely protective great-grandmother, and the items Brittany's family still keeps have never prompted a second visit.

Sydney from Nebraska calls in about a California rental her family moved into despite her immediately sensing something wrong. Alone unpacking her room, she watched a large figure move past her door, called out for a brother who wasn't home, and searched an empty house. Years later, her parents finally admitted what they'd hidden the entire time they lived there, a woman who emerged from the closet every single night to place her hands on Sydney's father's feet and wake him.

Yamari from Pennsylvania calls in about waking in what she assumed was sleep paralysis, three black figures surrounding her bed with her boyfriend right beside her, unreachable no matter how hard she tried to move or scream. The dream logic falls apart on one detail, the bedroom door, closed before they went to sleep, was standing open when she finally woke.

An anonymous caller shares a childhood dream of an angel telling them "it's okay" during what felt, at five or six, like the happiest point of their life, a comfort that only made sense years later, standing in a Catholic church, remembering it in the middle of their hardest stretch of middle school.

And Erica from San Diego returns with an early childhood memory that has never once changed in the retelling, waking in her parents' bed to find the mattress replaced entirely by an endless, fire-filled trench beneath them, her parents sound asleep and completely unfazed while she floated terrified above the flames.

True Ghost Stories: A Grandad's Necklace Returns and a Faceless Woman at the Hollywood Sign12 Feb 202500:20:27

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's three calls include a piece of jewelry that vanished for over a decade and reappeared through a dream, a faceless figure at the Hollywood sign with a documented history stretching back nearly a century, and a live on-camera possession followed by a phone call that still can't be explained.

Kelly from Australia calls in with a story about her grandad, who passed away 13 years ago. For years she'd asked family members about his silver St. Christopher necklace, one she used to play with sitting on his knee as a child, and nobody could account for where it had gone. After a recent visit home spent asking again, and after spotting the necklace clearly in an old photograph of her grandad, Kelly's grandmother handed her a wrapped gift on Christmas morning containing the exact necklace and a note saying her grandad would be proud to see her wearing it. Her grandmother had no idea Kelly had ever wanted it; she'd simply had a dream telling her to give it to her.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana calls in with a story from a 1976 family trip to California, the same trip that brought her family face to face with the ghost of Marilyn Monroe walking the beach. Near the Hollywood sign at dusk, her family watched a shrouded figure in period clothing approach them, and where her face should have been, there was nothing at all. What they encountered matches the well-documented sightings of Peg Entwistle, an actress who died by suicide by jumping from the Hollywood sign's letter H in the 1930s, unaware a movie role was waiting for her the very next day. Witnesses have reported her presence to joggers, hikers, and park rangers ever since, often accompanied by the scent of gardenia perfume, her signature fragrance in life.

Layne Pavoggi a YouTube filmmaker, calls in with a story from filming California on Ghosts, a project he made with fellow creator Kassem G. While ghost hunting at a haunted hotel in Volcano, California with psychic medium Maria Lagana-Sales, Layne and his crew captured what appears to be a live possession on camera, Maria going silent, shaking, and transforming for a stretch of roughly 45 minutes before purging afterward. Hours later, driving home, Layne received a call from Robert, a former roommate and father figure he hadn't spoken to in fifteen years, who explained he'd had an urgent, vivid dream the night before of a dark-haired woman trying to grab hold of Layne, one he felt compelled to protect him from. The description matched Maria almost exactly.

True Ghost Stories: Three Figures Came Through a Closed Door, a Glowing Angel, and Fire Instead of a Mattress04 Dec 202400:13:24

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories that each involve a moment of waking up to something that should not be there. A door that was closed when you fell asleep standing open. An angel who told a five-year-old it was okay before she understood what it meant. And a mattress replaced by an endless pit of fire, with everyone sleeping above it completely unaware.

Yamari from Pennsylvania calls in with a true ghost story that has a witness. She and her boyfriend went to bed normally with the bedroom door closed as always. In the night, she experienced what felt like waking but could not move, could not scream, and could not get her boyfriend's attention. The door opened, and three black figures entered the room, moving around both of them with their focus on her. She closed her eyes and woke fully in a panic attack. The door was open. Her daughters were asleep in their rooms. There are no animals in the house. The door had been closed when she fell asleep. It has never happened again, but she still gets chills when she is alone in that room.

An anonymous listener calls in with a true spiritual encounter that did not reveal its meaning until years after it happened. When they were five or six, they had a dream in which they were in distress and an angel appeared, a glowing figure with wings that reminded them of the Statue of Liberty, who said it's okay. Life was good at the time, and the dream made no immediate sense. Years later, in middle school, a period of severe anxiety and genuine suffering, they were standing inside a Catholic church when it suddenly made complete sense. The angel had not been speaking about that moment as a five-year-old. It had been speaking about middle school. The message arrived a decade early and waited.

Erica from San Diego returns with her third call to Tell Me A Ghost Story, and this one goes back to the very beginning of her life. She was five or six years old and growing up in a home defined by physical abuse and toxic relationships between her parents. She had always felt and seen paranormal activity in the duplex her family lived in, faces and creatures emerging from the stucco walls of her bedroom at night. But the experience she called in about is the one she has never been able to explain or rationalize in the decades since. She woke up in her parents' bed, where they had let her sleep between them. When she opened her eyes, the mattress was gone. Beneath her father, herself, and her mother was an endless dark trench of fire, flames rising upward toward them as they floated above it, still sleeping. She looked left. She looked right. Her parents were completely undisturbed. She was five years old, floating above a pit of fire, and she was the only one who could see it. She remembers what her parents were wearing that night. The memory has never changed. She does not think she imagined it.

Three real callers. Three true ghost stories about waking up to something that had no right to be there. This is where Tell Me A Ghost Story began.

True Ghost Stories: A Crab Shaped Ghost, Sleep Paralysis Attackers, Ruth Who Came Back for Her Things, and a Lady from the Closet20 Nov 202400:13:14

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All four of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.

And yes, the show was on a billboard in Times Square around this time. If you have not called in yet, consider this your sign. Literally.

Hey, it's Michelle, and I'm back from a week off with four true ghost stories that cover more paranormal ground than almost any other episode in the early archive.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, returns with a new addition to her paranormal household. Regular listeners already know about Little Rachel, the ghost of a girl who burned to death in a Christmas fire and followed Cindy home after she donated toys to her memorial. This time, Cindy introduces us to a second entity that also followed her home from a visit to Mitchell, Indiana. This one has taken the shape of a crab. It has piercing blue eyes. It hides under the bed and glares at her. Cindy's home is becoming quite the gathering.

Dave from Kansas City calls in with a sleep paralysis experience in his first apartment that crossed the line from dream state into something he still cannot fully explain. He was pulled into a paralysis episode where the bathroom and closet doorways were filled with solid black, and a whispered voice called his name as if moving toward him. Three loud bangs on his door woke him into a half state where he got up and found two figures in his living room, shaped like humans but made entirely of TV static. They attacked him. He chanted "Jesus help me" until they stopped, and he woke fully in his bedroom. He got up, found his front door had been unlocked all night, walked outside, and discovered four police vehicles surrounding the adjacent complex where a man had murdered his girlfriend in the night and had been running through the streets.

Brittany from Riverton, Utah, calls in with a haunting connected to her great-grandmother Ruth, a feisty and fiercely protective woman who collected things her whole life and was buried with some of her most beloved possessions. When the family cleared out her great uncle's house after his death, a couple hired to help took several items home with them. Two nights later, the husband called Brittany's husband and said he needed to give the items back. A woman named Ruth had appeared in his dream and told him she did not want him to have her things. He had never met Ruth. He did not feel good about keeping them. He gave them back. Brittany now keeps several of Ruth's items in her cabin. Ruth has not come to ask for those ones back.

Sidney from Nebraska calls in with a haunting from her teenage years in California, where her family rented a house she felt was wrong from the first moment she stepped inside. A large figure walked past her bedroom door while she was home alone unpacking. A woman in a dress appeared in the mirror that faced the closet in her parents' room. Sidney told her parents. They dismissed her. Years later, after they moved out, her parents finally told her what they had never mentioned while they lived there. Every single night that woman came out of the closet, walked to her father's side of the bed, and put her hands on his feet to wake him. Every night. For the entire time they lived in that house.

Four real callers. Four true ghost stories.

True Ghost Stories: The Neighbor Screamed "Satan" and Started Banging Her Head on the Door06 Nov 202400:24:47

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a seemingly ordinary neighbor whose deterioration became genuinely terrifying, a skinwalker encounter on a remote Alaskan island, an unexplained touch in the shower, and a hostel in Ecuador with a ghost every employee had already met. (This episode was formally title "Real Ghost Stories For Cooking Dinner - Mixtape vol. 9").

Elijah from Moscow, Idaho calls in about a new neighbor named Deborah, a recently divorced, entirely unremarkable woman who slowly began speaking in different voices, wandering the neighborhood at night claiming to hear people screaming her name, and scratching at the thin duplex walls. The situation culminated with Deborah marching in place on Elijah's stairs, breathing heavily, eyes rolled upward, answering every attempt to say her name with a single demonic-sounding word until she finally screamed "Satan." After being pushed outside, she banged her head rhythmically against the door for several minutes before walking backward down the stairs and disappearing around the building. It was one of the only times in Elijah's life he's ever called the police.

Nicole from Anchorage, Alaska calls in about a camping trip on a remote island near Homer, an area known among cryptid researchers for unusual activity. Alone by a bonfire, she was overtaken by a sudden, overwhelming sense of dread and the specific thought that she wasn't going to make it out of there. Later in her sleeping bag, she felt a breath against her ear and heard her own voice whisper her name, at the exact moment her dog leapt up, hackles raised, barking more aggressively than she'd ever witnessed. Locals later told her the area is known for skinwalker activity.

LaSondra from a small town south of San Antonio calls in about an eerie feeling that had followed her since moving in with her partner. While showering, she felt a full hand drag down the length of her spine, from her upper back to her hips, and instinctively swatted it away, thinking it was her partner joining her, only to find the bathroom empty when she finished rinsing her hair, with both sliding glass doors still shut.

Edwin Covarrubias host of Scary Story Podcast and True Scary Story, recounts his time managing a hostel in Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador, shares his first full apparition sighting, a man standing behind the reception desk who vanished the instant Edwin stepped closer, later identified by staff as Chiquito, a presence multiple employees had already encountered throughout the building. What followed included flickering lights that resisted every repair attempt and, weeks later, an entire restaurant's worth of light bulbs discovered deliberately unscrewed just enough to prevent them from working, in a building formerly owned by a convent of nuns. Staff eventually made a small offering to the building itself, after which the activity stopped entirely.

Four real callers. Four true ghost stories.

True Ghost Stories: A Bloody Handprint in a Dark Gym, a Shapeshifter on Palomar Mountain, and a Brother Who Called to Say Goodbye30 Oct 202400:17:46

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this Halloween episode has three true ghost stories that each land in a completely different register. One is frightening and unexplained. One is terrifying and possibly deserved. And one will break your heart. All three are real.

James from Greeley, Colorado, calls in with a true ghost story from when he was six years old, living in a foster home in Loveland. While parents watched a swim meet at Thompson Valley High School, a group of ten kids snuck into the empty dark gym. They started running around. Then every folded chair in the room flew into each other and crashed at once with nobody near them. Every child bolted for the same door simultaneously. James and his brother were last out. They turned and looked through the small window in the gym door and saw a bloody handprint smeared down the glass. When they told the parents, the adults assumed the children had knocked over the chairs themselves. James was six. He knows what he saw.

Erica from San Diego calls in with a story about what happens when you invoke something you were raised never to name. Her grandparents had Native American roots, and Erica grew up with the specific cultural warning that speaking of flesh pedestrians and shapeshifters draws their attention. On a camping trip to Palomar Mountain, her father started joking about shapeshifters near the observatory at the top of the mountain. A friend threw a rock at a deer. They laughed and got back in the minivan to drive down. Halfway down, the brakes failed completely. The minivan hit sixty miles an hour with nothing to stop it. Her father tried a dirt bank on the side of the mountain. It almost flipped them and did not slow them down. It felt like more than gravity was pulling them. With fifteen yards of guardrail left before a sheer drop, he pushed the passenger side into the rail and ground them to a stop ten feet from the end. Erica does not think it was a coincidence. Her father was the one talking. The passenger side was the side that hit the rail.

Vicki from Hammond, Indiana, calls in with the kind of true ghost story that does not frighten you so much as it stays with you. Her older brother drowned in Lake Michigan when Vicki was nine. He had been living in the basement of their family home. Months after the funeral Vicki came home from school alone and heard the kitchen wall phone ring. The cordless phone in her hand did not ring. Only the kitchen phone. She ran to answer it. Nobody was there. She hung up and walked back toward the bathroom. In the hallway, she heard her brother say her name as clearly as if he was standing right behind her. She knew it was him. She did not turn around. She ran into the bathroom and sat with her back against the door until her mother came home. The kitchen phone was near the back door that led down to the basement, where her brother used to live. She believes he was trying to draw her to him to say goodbye. The portable phone in her hand never rang. Only the one by the door to his room.

Three real callers. Three true ghost stories for Halloween.

True Ghost Stories: "There Was No One Staying in That Room. You Guys Were the Only Ones."16 Oct 202400:26:36

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's four calls include a phone booth that kept ringing at the same time every day, a ghost hunting show crew member who got an answer he never expected, a psychic who pulled a very specific name out of thin air, and a staycation that ended with two people fleeing a hotel room in the middle of the night. (This episode is formally known as "Real Ghost Stories For Walking the Dog On A Lonely Night - Mixtape Vol. 7")

Roc from Orange County returns with a story from his grandparents' motel in Pomona, where he witnessed a drive-by shooting outside a phone booth as a child. Nights later, at exactly 3 am, a man appeared at the window, visible to Rock, his grandmother, and eventually his grandfather before vanishing entirely. The activity became so persistent his grandmother finally had curtains made. Years later, kids playing near the same phone booth answered a call that shouldn't have been possible, hearing a staticky voice say "help me" before the line dropped, and the phone continued ringing at 5 pm and 10 pm like clockwork until the booth was eventually removed.

Jacob, who worked on a paranormal investigation show filmed in a historic Denver mansion, calls in about being alone on the third floor while striking equipment after a shoot. Pulling on a cable made a distinct shhh sound, and a delayed echo of the same sound answered from inside a cracked-open closet door behind him, repeating each time he tested it.

Dave calls in about Bobby, a family friend who died in a car accident decades ago and who Dave's skeptical brother swears he heard calling his name at work. Years of unexplained presence in the restaurant's storage attic culminated during a paranormal event when an unfamiliar psychic pulled the specific nickname Bobby, unprompted, and said he was doing fine and still watching over them.

And Artemis from Los Angeles closes the episode with a staycation at a private Bowery Hotel townhouse in New York City. What began as an unsettling atmosphere escalated through a bathtub turning on by itself, repeated sightings of someone just out of view on the stairwell, a window slamming shut on its own, and running footsteps in the hallway, until both Artemis and his ex fled the hotel entirely in the middle of the night. When Artemis called the next morning to apologize for disturbing another guest, staff confirmed no one else had been staying there. The building's history later revealed it had once been an orphanage, and the room itself was the site of a fatal overdose in the early 2000s.

Four real callers. Four true ghost stories.

True Ghost Stories: A Murdered Boy Asked "Why Do You Cry So Much at Night?09 Oct 202400:22:28

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a group of translucent men tapping on a living room window, a paranormal TV crew member pushed by something invisible on a supernatural highway beneath a haunted tattoo shop, a woman who still searches the woods with drums for her murdered husband, and two encounters with the dead that came wrapped in real, documented history. (This episode was formerly named "Real Ghost Stories For Folding Laundry - Mixtape Vol. 6")

Brittany calls in about waking from a nightmare and crawling toward her front door, only to find four translucent men pressed against the bay windows, tapping deliberately as if they knew she could see them, one trailing behind, pushing a bicycle. Her legs turned to lead as she crawled past them to reach the stairs, and when her family checked outside, there was no possible way anyone could have left the area unseen.

Jimmy, who's spent years working on paranormal television productions, calls in about a haunted Chicago tattoo shop where he went looking for tools in a pitch-black basement. Backing away from a coworker, he felt himself step directly onto someone's feet and get shoved from behind, despite being completely alone. A psychic later identified that exact stairwell as a heavily trafficked supernatural corridor.

Yamari returns with a story from a post-breakup hike with her mom and sister, where the sound of distant drumming followed them along the trail as darkness fell. Research that night revealed a local legend about a woman murdered on that mountain alongside her husband, said to still play the drums searching for him.

Michelle shares her own story from a road trip stop at a Best Western in Fresno, California, waking to find a man hovering inches from her face before he vanished instantly, and her boyfriend at the time admitting he'd seen the same thing moments earlier.

And Alannah from Edmonton, Alberta, closes the episode with two encounters tied to real loss. As a teenager visiting her biological mother in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, she woke paralyzed to a young boy asking why she cried so much at night, a boy she later learned matched the documented description of a child murdered in that same house years before. Years later, fully awake and unable to move, she watched her deceased grandmother appear seated in a rocking chair, speak softly in Cree, and press a warm hand to her shoulder before the room returned to normal.

True Ghost Stories: The Ouija Board Ripped Apart, Thrown Away, and Found Back Together02 Oct 202400:28:58

Hey it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a Victorian man who disintegrated into dust, a tall figure that showed up in a baptism photo no one else remembers seeing, a homemade Ouija board that put itself back together after being torn apart and discarded, a tall black mass that seemed shocked to be seen, and two sisters separated by loss who never stopped finding ways to reach each other. (This episode was formerly known as "Real Ghost Stories For Your Morning Commute - Mixtape Vol. 5")

Leah from California calls in about waking at 3 or 4 am to find a man in Victorian or Edwardian dress sitting in her desk chair. When she waved her hand through him, he dissolved into the air like scattering dust, gone completely by the time she turned the light on.

Beth from rural Kentucky calls in about a baptism photographed on instant film in the early '80s, long before digital editing existed. Across a sequence of photos, an unusually tall, long-haired figure appears standing among the congregation, moves position between shots, and vanishes entirely by the final photo. No one who attended the baptism remembers seeing him.

Yamari from Lancaster, Pennsylvania calls in about a sixth-grade sleepover Ouija board session that spelled out "axe, killed, woman" after being mocked for inactivity, followed by every candle in the sealed basement extinguishing at once and a shadow figure appearing above an unlit fireplace, holding something raised overhead. Days later, after the board was torn apart and thrown into a dam, Yamari found it fully reassembled on a nearby picnic table.

Nikki from Cleveland, Ohio calls in about seeing a large dark figure as a child, dismissed by her mother despite overhearing that same mother later admit fear of something behind her on the phone. As an adult, Nikki turned around while doing dishes to find a tall black mass staring back, one she felt communicate genuine surprise at being seen before flying directly into the wall.

Yvonne from the Philippines returns with two stories about her late sister Trisha, who died in infancy from chickenpox before Yvonne was born. In the first, Yvonne heard her name whispered clearly beside her ear the same day her family realized they'd forgotten Trisha's birthday. In the second, years later, Yvonne felt three distinct finger flicks on her arm while alone in a room, the last one hard enough to hear and feel, followed by a dream in which her sister told her to look behind her, revealing Yvonne's own body beside a pool.

True Ghost Stories: Shadow People Pulled Christina Off Her Chair and a Growling Dark Figure Sat on Nellie While She Slept25 Sep 202400:08:27

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories that cover three completely different kinds of contact between the living and the dead.

Christina is the host of Espooky Tales on the Scary FM Network, and she calls in with a true ghost story from her childhood in Oakland, California, that began as mockery and ended with a bruised tailbone and a lesson she has not forgotten. She was eleven years old. Her nine-year-old brother had always insisted he could see shadow people, and Christina and her twin were not taking him seriously. They were sitting in their father's trailer behind his car shop when her brother pointed out shadow people standing next to Christina, and she started fake punching the air where he was pointing. Her brother said they don't like it when you do that. The chair was pulled out from under her. All four legs had been solidly on the floor. She had not been leaning back. Something pulled it while she was sitting on it, and she fell hard. Her brother looked over and said see I told you. Their father's response when they ran to his office was that they should be more scared of the living than the dead. Christina was more concerned about her injured tailbone. Go check out Espooky Tales on the Scary FM Network.

Carla calls in with the shortest and most quietly devastating call in the early archive. She is living with the love of her life, who passed away in 2020. The love did not end. The presence did not leave. She has everything on film. She describes it as a gift that keeps on giving, and she means that without any irony. There is nothing more to say about Carla's story because Carla said everything that needed to be said in the time she took to say it. Some love stories do not end.

Nellie from Clinton, Illinois, returns with a true ghost story rooted in her Mexican grandmother's warnings about what happens when you sleep in the wrong position. Her grandmother called it el muerto, the dead getting on top of you. Nellie was eighteen years old, sleeping on her stomach on an ordinary weekday morning, when she felt something heavy climb onto her back. She opened her eyes and tried to look behind her. A dark shadow was there. It put its mouth near her ear and growled, a low sound that was half laugh and half something she cannot describe even now. She could not move. It lasted a few seconds, and then it was gone. Nellie grew up hearing her grandmother's warning and wondering if it was true. At eighteen, she found out. The experience of el muerto, a heavy presence pinning a sleeping person while a dark figure looms and growls, connects to sleep paralysis accounts documented across Latin American cultures for generations and shares remarkable similarities with the Old Hag phenomenon in European tradition, the Kanashibari in Japanese culture, and the shadow figure encounters reported across nearly every culture that has ever tried to explain what sits on people in the dark while they sleep.

Three real callers. Three true ghost stories about what happens when the dead make physical contact.

True Ghost Stories: A Scorched Face, a Vanishing Doppelgänger, and a Red Balloon With a Coin Inside18 Sep 202400:27:51

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a doppelganger with a scorched face that vanished mid-laugh, a HomeGoods mansion with its own resident ghost, a weeping shadow no one could identify, a brother who wasn't home appearing at the foot of a bed, and a red balloon that burned to reveal an unexplainable coin. The episode was formally known as "Real Ghost Stories For Cleaning the House- Mix Tape 3"

Roc from Orange County calls in with a years-long haunting at his parents' house in Fontana, starting with roof noises everyone dismissed and escalating into a string of family losses and a series of pets that never survived long. The centerpiece of his story is an entity that appeared as his mother, sitting on the bed crying before its face was revealed scorched and its eyes turned white, cackling before vanishing entirely, while his actual mother was confirmed by phone to be at Costco the entire time. What followed was months of activity centered on his little sister, a Victorian-dressed child spirit named Sophia the family eventually traced to a local legend, handprints and footprints appearing on wet cement and windows, and a night the family found her hiding under the bed beside a dark figure. Multiple religious cleansings failed before sage finally worked.

I (your host, Michelle) also share a shorter story from a photography job at a boss's HomeGoods-decorated mansion, where he felt someone sprint up directly behind him on a staircase with no one there, followed by a driveway alarm going off repeatedly with no one arriving, which his boss brushed off as simply their house ghost, Lola.

Nelly from Clinton, Illinois calls in about a childhood house where a realtor had disclosed an elderly woman's death years before. Sleeping with her head covered as a habit, twelve-year-old Nelly heard a woman weeping directly beside her bed, distinct from her mother's voice, visible only as a dark shadow standing over her.

Yvonne from the Philippines returns with a story from her late teens, watching what appeared to be her brother slip into her room and duck at the foot of her bed in a familiar prank routine, only to vanish completely when she checked, with no possible hiding place beneath the bed. Her mother confirmed her brother had been out of the house since that afternoon.

And Edwin Covarrubias, host of True Scary Story and founder of Scary.fm, closes the episode with childhood memories from his family's first house, starting with a dark blue, jacket-like shape floating in a bathroom corner, followed by a mysterious red balloon his father found and burned, revealing a rice-like texture and an unidentifiable old coin at its center. The years that followed brought dead birds appearing around the property and unexplained nighttime noises, culminating in a blinding, wind-filled light that burst from his closet one night and never returned after that.

Five real callers. Five true ghost stories.

True Ghost Stories: 300 Bodies in a Georgia Barn, a Dogman at the Sliding Glass Door, and a Hostel Earthquake Nobody Felt11 Sep 202400:13:32

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories that are each stranger than the last.

Phil from Chattanooga, Tennessee, calls in with his fourth story for the show, and this one is rooted in one of the most disturbing real-life scandals in Georgia history. Phil picked up a young man home from the Marine Corps who told him what had happened the day before when he tried to take a shortcut through the woods behind his house to his grandmother's. He got deep into the trees and stopped. Something felt wrong. Shadow figures appeared behind him. Then in front of him. Then, when he turned a full circle, they were all the way around him. The woods in question were the grounds of the Tri-State Crematorium in Noble, Georgia, where owner Brent Marsh was discovered to have stored over three hundred bodies in a barn rather than cremating them. A neighbor's dog dug up a skull. The FBI, the TBI, and state and local law enforcement descended on the town. The pond was drained. The property was demolished. Nothing can be built there. The bodies that could be identified were taken to Atlanta. The ones that could not were not. Phil says you can fact-check it. He is right.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a true creature encounter from the 1980s that her family has never forgotten. One evening, the power went out across the house. The dogs ran from the room in fear. Her mother opened the living room drapes and found a six-foot creature covered in black hair standing at the sliding glass door, growling, snarling, and slapping the glass as if trying to break through. Her father identified it as a Dogman and ran to his bedroom for his silver coin chest. He presented it to the creature through the glass. It howled and ran into the darkness. Michelle's research confirmed that the Michigan Dogman has been reported by over a hundred witnesses since disc jockey Steve Cook recorded a song about the legend in 1987 as an April Fool's joke and began receiving calls from listeners who said they had seen exactly what he described.

Hendel from Long Island, New York, calls in with three nights at a hostel in Los Angeles that built from unsettling to impossible. On the second night, a girl in the bunk room laughed loudly for fifteen minutes, and when Hendel turned on her phone light discovered the girl's head was now at the opposite end of the bed from where the laughter had come, her body completely switched with no way to have done it silently. On the third night, Hendel woke at 1 AM to the entire room shaking violently for twenty seconds. Every bed. Every object in the room. The next morning, the hostel reception had no idea what she was talking about. There was no earthquake recorded in Los Angeles that night. No geological sensor registered anything. Hendel is willing to dismiss one incident. Two incidents on consecutive nights with no explanation is something else.

Three real callers. Three true ghost stories from a crematorium in Georgia, a living room in Indiana, and a hostel in Los Angeles.

True Ghost Stories: The Ghost of Marilyn Monroe on a California Beach, Something That Followed Adam Home, and the Tall Man in the Doorway04 Sep 202400:10:45

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories from three completely different corners of the paranormal world. A ghost who did not know she was dead and had a message she needed the living to hear. Two ghost hunters who used a black mirror and brought something home without realizing it. A four-year-old girl in Queensland, Australia, who looked up and found a Tall Man standing in her doorway, and has been thinking about him ever since.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a true ghost story from a trip to Hollywood with her grandparents after graduating high school in 1977. Walking along the Pacific Ocean one evening, they were approached by a woman in a long white evening gown carrying white leather sandals who seemed lost and confused. Cindy and her grandmother were both psychic, and they recognized her immediately. It was Marilyn Monroe. She did not know who she was or where she was. When Cindy told her, she regained her composure and delivered her message. She did not commit suicide. Somebody else did it for her. Then she walked back down the beach with a man whose face they could not see and disappeared into the sunset, leaving a trail of footprints in the sand. Michelle's research confirmed that Marilyn Monroe's spirit has been reported across Los Angeles for decades, in her home, on the Santa Monica Pier, and in the ladies' rooms of hotels across Hollywood.

Adam from Decatur, Illinois, is a twenty-year paranormal investigator who always dismissed the question of whether something might follow him home from a haunted location until the summer of 2016. He and his friend Jake visited a house with a history of murder, suicide, a major fire, and construction on top of a Native American burial ground. They used a black mirror for scrying, experienced nothing unusual, and drove home in opposite directions, arriving back at roughly 1 AM. Adam got out of his car and was hit with an overwhelming feeling of absolute silence and the specific sensation of someone standing directly behind him. He turned around. Nobody was there. His phone rang immediately. It was Jake calling from his driveway six minutes away, asking if Adam was home and why it was so completely quiet outside. Two people. Two driveways. The same silence. The same presence. The same moment.

Lisa is an Aboriginal woman of the Gomeroi Nation based in Queensland, Australia, and the host of the Proppa Scary Podcast, a show dedicated to First Nations paranormal stories from Australia and Indigenous communities around the world. She was four years old when she woke in the night and saw a Tall Man standing in her bedroom doorway. Very tall. Very thin. Wearing a hat. No visible face. He stared at her, and she stared back. She rolled over to face the wall and whispered please go away until she fell back to sleep. She never saw him again. But she has never stopped thinking about him, and the Tall Man in the doorway is now the artwork for her podcast. Follow Lisa at Proppa Scary Podcast on Instagram.

Three real callers. Three true ghost stories. A Hollywood beach, a burial ground in Illinois, and a doorway in Queensland.

True Ghost Stories: Something Was Attached to Those Coffins and Something Has Been Attached to Rachel Since Age Four21 Aug 202400:11:18

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. Both of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has two true ghost stories connected by one word. Attached. Something attached itself to two coffins used in a funeral home in Georgia and followed them into a Halloween spook house in Tennessee. And something attached itself to Rachel when she was four years old and has never let go in thirty years.

Phil from Chattanooga, Tennessee, calls in from his work managing foreclosed and abandoned properties in Rome, Georgia. The property had been a funeral home, sitting vacant for over five years. Phil went in for a routine inspection and found the basement fully intact. Embalming equipment. Preparation tables. And two coffins in a room off to the side. The mortgage company told him to take them to the landfill. Instead, a worker suggested his uncle's Halloween spook house in Chattanooga might want them. The uncle came and picked them up.

When the spook house opened months later, Phil got a call. The uncle wanted to know where those coffins had come from. His actors refused to get inside them. Things were moving around the space. Doors slamming. Objects falling. One or two actors said flatly it had to be the coffins. Phil later learned from a former funeral home employee that those two coffins had been used over and over for decades for every person scheduled to be cremated. A memorial service. The lid closed. An elevator down to the basement. The body removed and sent off. The coffin returned for the next one. Whatever accumulated in those coffins across hundreds of uses had no intention of becoming a Halloween prop.

Rachel from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, calls in with a paranormal attachment that began when she was four years old in South Point, Ohio, and has followed her through every home she has lived in since. Her brother reported their deceased great-grandmother appearing at his window after her death, but Rachel has always wondered whether it was actually her great-grandmother or something demonic using her face to get inside. Whatever it was, it stayed.

Thirty years later, Rachel still experiences paranormal activity, and the presence she senses is always the same figure, appearing in her mind whenever something happens, as if it wants to be recognized. Her first sleep paralysis episode at thirty-two ended with three long scratches on her makeup vanity that were not there before. When she described the experience to her mother, her mother's face went blank. The wall behind Rachel was turning black and appeared to be opening like a portal as she spoke. Rachel stopped talking immediately and has never spoken about that incident again.

Her most recent sleep paralysis episode happened three weeks before she called in. Something demonic whispered directly into her ear. She will not repeat what it said. She is afraid that saying it out loud will make things worse.

Two real callers. Two true ghost stories about what happens when something decides to attach itself and never let go.

True Ghost Stories: Little Rachel the Christmas Fire Ghost, a Cursed Georgia Property, and a Kitchen Full of Open Cabinets15 Aug 202400:13:12

This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories about what happens when something comes home with you and decides to stay. A ghost child who followed someone home because of an act of kindness. A rental property in Georgia where everyone who lived there died or was permanently disabled. And a dead man's belongings that came back from his funeral with something still attached.

Cindy from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a true ghost story about Little Rachel, a young girl from Mitchell, Indiana, who burned to death in a Christmas fire. The connection began when Cindy donated two satchels of toys to Rachel's memorial at Christmas. Rachel followed her home and has been there ever since. Cindy is a retired Indiana State Police civilian with thirty years of service who has had Rachel investigated by paranormal researchers, captured EVPs connected to her presence, and watched Rachel possess a haunted doll that Cindy keeps to this day. Little Rachel is not threatening. She is persistent. And Cindy has made her peace with having a Christmas fire ghost as a permanent houseguest.

Phil from Chattanooga, Tennessee, calls in with a rental property just across the state line in Georgia with three identical houses twenty feet apart and a history Phil did not know when he bought it. One tenant was beaten to death with a hammer in the driveway. Another died of a fentanyl overdose on the property. The leaseholder's girlfriend had a stroke and was left permanently disabled. The leaseholder himself was given six weeks to live and lasted three. Every tenant reported seeing and hearing someone in the empty middle house. A neighbor told Phil that far more people had died there than Phil knew and that nobody in the neighborhood would dare set foot inside. Phil sold the property and warned the buyer. The buyer said he did not believe in hocus pocus. Two months after closing, the buyer had a medical emergency and was left with permanent disabilities. The property still looks exactly as it did five years ago. The buyer has never touched it.

Lauren from Round Rock, Texas, calls in with a haunting that began after a roommate returned from his older brother's funeral carrying the brother's sentimental belongings back to the shared apartment. That same night, Lauren's younger sister woke up in the living room and heard someone in the kitchen, opening cabinets, pulling drawers, rummaging around. Nobody was awake. Nobody was in the kitchen. Her sister called their mother and asked to be picked up before dawn. After that night, the kitchen cabinets started opening by themselves regularly. Every cabinet. Every drawer. Including the ones too high to reach. Lauren saw it herself when she and her friend fell asleep with the deadbolt locked and woke up to find every single cabinet and drawer in the kitchen standing open. Her sister had no knowledge of the brother's belongings being in the apartment before her sleepover encounter. She had no reason to be afraid. She was afraid anyway.

Three real callers. Three true ghost stories. This is where Tell Me A Ghost Story began.
