Dubai’s hyped so much as a hub for entrepreneurs and the Good Life. And when I went there many months ago to visit a friend’s event, I was taken aback.

I thought I was used to metropolises, having visited the bustling New York city and all. 

But Dubai can be a tad overwhelming if I’m being honest. I struggled the first few days to find peace. It really got to me how fast everyone moves and how massive everything is.

Needless to say, the architecture is absolutely incredible and the city is very clean. However, I felt like it’s somehow shallow and lacks soul and culture. Or maybe I just haven’t explored enough?

Buying your first business is a big step. It’s costly, it’s basically irreversible, and a huge decision for any entrepreneur.

As a teenager my dream was always to become a builder, at the time I didn’t think this was something that females could do. Instead I took the very stereotypical role for a female in the property industry as a letting agent and climbed the corporate ladder. I worked in the lettings industry for nearly 15 years and have been investing personally for nearly 20 years. Andy Gaught is a property investor, mentor and coach who has been running his own property investment business Asset Living for the past 7 years. He is a full time property investor with a portfolio of single lets and HMOs across the South, and he continues to invest in high quality rental accommodation with joint venture partners.

Tej graduated from King's’ College London with a BSc Biochemistry in 2014, he then pursued a career in Medical Education and Marketing. Soon after his second job… he was fired! A moment of relief and freedom was what he felt, not sure what his mother felt when he told her he was jobless at 23…

He then went in search of a more ethical path, a business he could set up where the reward was equal to the work put in. “If they are making pounds, why am I making pennies?” - was his thought process, not happy with slow progression and bureaucracy (& having to wear smart shoes everyday). This lead him to opening a Recruitment business (not sure where the ethics went) which doubled in profit every year, for 4 years. He hated it. Golden handcuffs they call it.

Fortunately, he used the cash he’d built up from that business, to educate himself in Property Investing. Soon, he’d stopped the business and transitioned into Property Investment full time. He then had a slow start -

For some context, we started property investing in property around 2 years ago with £70k to play with (after selling our personal home). Since then, we have grown to a portfolio of 11 properties, quit our full-time jobs and now travel the world and work remotely (we are currently in Turkey).

When we started out, we found that we were getting increasingly frustrated with the software solutions in the market. We’re used to there being tonnes of CRM’s that support with lettings management and a few sales CRM’s that we can use for sourcing deals, but nothing that deals with the full end to end process. This is why we launched Property Store.

I’m an Australian who has moved abroad originally to play professional rugby. I became involved in property in lockdown as it was something I always had a passion for. I began desk sourcing with a mutual friend and found myself gravitating towards HMO’s. We done quite well and sold over 20 deals and project managed all the refurbs.
