Series 3, episode 4 - Have you missed us?  Have you even noticed? Since our last record we have been so busy that we haven’t had a chance to get together for a chat and a cuppa. Jemma has been back to the UK and Kirsty has been entertaining her parents. We chat about the highs and lows of both in this episode.

Series 3, episode 3-  Boston baby and it IS my first rodeo It’s the annual British mum’s trip and this year it was a weekend in beautiful, historic Boston, Massachusetts. We explore the sites on foot, bus and bikes, and enjoy all the delicious food on the way. We also visited a local NC travelling rodeo and took our lives in our hands sitting on very scary bleachers.

Season 2, Episode 10 - Interview with Susie

This week is all about moving for love. Susie met her husband on a US military base in England and followed him to the states, a country that she hadn’t even visited for a holiday (vacation for our US listeners). She now lives in NC with her beautiful young family.

Season 2, Episode 9 – "It’s Just a Little Matter (of Man Flu)"

Sick kids, suspicious sniffles, and a full-blown case of husband man flu — it’s been a week. ET might’ve phoned home, but we were too busy cleaning up tissues and chaos. It’s just a little matter really… and of course, we had a little chat (or a full-on moan) about it all.

Today we have a little chat to another Brit Abroad and how her and her young family ended up here. Evie did a great job keeping her 2 year old entertained with endless Bluey, while we discussed how Rebecca went with the flow and started a new life in NC. Thanks Rebecca who was great and also baked for us!

Haylie-Jo and the British Ladies Around Raleigh

Haylie-Jo formed the Facebook community the BLAR 10 years ago and this became an invaluable support for many expat women desperate to find support, advice, and mostly importantly, someone to share a proper brew with. Haylie-Jo was kind enough to share her story and we loved having a natter and a biscuit with her.

This week we tried to tackle some pet related questions sent in by Fiona who is about to make the move. Also, poor Jemma is about to have her wisdom teeth out. Let’s hope she can still record next week!

Today the lovely Mel joined us for a chat over a cup of tea, and brought with her a gift of delicious Scottish delights. I have already gobbed up a few chocolate toffees but a photo of the rest can be found on Insta. Mel shared with us her tale of being stuck in California during Covid and finding love state side.

Today we interview another Brit living abroad, Steph. Steph moved from St Helen’s to Pinehurst NC and was kind enough to share her story, her experiences and even her chocolate digestive biscuits.

It’s Jemma’s birthday and we want to make the most of all the freebees. Free cookies, cheesecake, and cake and how to get them. We also had a go at axe throwing whilst drinking cocktails. A possibility lethal combination.

Episode 12 - Going O T T on every holiday American’s seem to love celebrating a holiday season and when we say holiday, we don’t mean the summer holidays. We mean Valentine’s presents for every kid in the class, special T-shirts for St Patrick’s day and getting out the Fall Box. No episode next week as it’s Spring break. Join us in 2 weeks time.

Today is mostly a general, ramble on about nothing and everything chat. What we have been up to including having a go at Pickleball (the fastest growing sport in America) and looking looking forward to spring break. Then we reminisce about good old British telly!

Today our wonderful friend Lisa joins us. She shares her story of how her and her family ended up in the States. She also tells us about her mission to get fit and we share our own on-going fitness attempts too.

Episode 9 - Packing 📦🚚🧳

An actual subject request! We were very excited by Janine’s message - what to pack and what to leave. We review our moves and what we wish we had packed with hindsight. Could we have squeezed more tea bags in our suitcases? Should we had got more Marmite from Tesco? Enjoy y’all!

Episode 8: Perfect days

What does a magical, perfect day look like in the UK and imagining how we would spend a day in the US, in all the places we have visited. We don’t let practical things like money, or full tummies get in the way of our dreams. Future trips and snake proofing a cabin are also up for discussion. All enjoyed with a cup of tea.

Episode 7 - Friends and the emotional journey

Saying goodbye to close friends and family is the hardest thing we ever did, and making news friends as middle age women is a whole new challenge. Today we discuss how we made new friends and how much you have to rely on them when you can feel isolated.

Episode 6 - All things Medical!

We are definitely not experts on this subject but share our experiences of the medical side of living here. Understanding our options and not being afraid to say no to drugs that may send you do-lally!

Episode 5 - School Spirit!  In this episode we tell you all about our experiences of schools in North Carolina. Enrolling our kids, car pool, the school bus and everything else that totally through us. For us, every day is a school day.

‘Food and shopping - Kirsty's favourite subject’

Today I (Kirsty) have a long list to discuss on the subject of food and grocery shopping. Sorry to poor Jemma who hardly gets a word in. We share our experiences of food in the states and offer our advice. Maybe don’t pack all your heavy cookbooks, don’t be scared of mega chicken breasts and expect giant apples. More swearing, especially when you find out how much a bunch of grapes cost.

Episode 3 ‘Suddenly you have to DRIVE over here’ Welcome y’all. This time you join us just after Thanksgiving and as we prepare for Christmas. This episode comes with a warning - we are a bit sweary. We may also offend some US listeners as we just don’t get Green Bean casserole. After a good ramble, we discuss today’s topic - Driving and the DMV. The differences about driving over here and what surprised us and also our experiences of the big personalities at the DMV and how to prepare for the test. Join us next week when we take on my favourite subject, Food!

After a fun flight with tears, vomit, wet jeans and more suitcases than we could handle, we finally arrived in the USA. Turns out, we are not just on holiday. We recount the stories of how we found our feet in those first days. Our temporary apartments, registering for schools, finding a house to rent and dealing with FOMO.
