| Why Anakin Skywalker Could Never Be A Master | 21 Jun 2022 | 01:04:36 | |
This Week on Tatooine Sons: Part 5 of Obi Wan Kenobi gave Star Wars fans the special treat they've been waiting for: a flashback sequence showing Anakin Skywalker. But this episode also revealed the reason why the conflict between Darth Vader and Ben Kenobi at the close of Part 3 of the series didn't break canon. In reality, Part 5 showed us that Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader NEVER became the Master. We'll discuss this along with a closer look at Vecna in Stranger Things, Seasons 1-3, and how Grant Gustin could replace Ezra Miller as The Flash in the DCEU. THIS is Tatooine Sons! Prefer video? | Obi Wan Kenobi is Poetry...It Rhymes | 14 Jun 2022 | 01:13:14
We started suspecting it after Part 3. But when we watched Part 4 of Obi Wan Kenobi, it was undeniable: each new part of the series is mirroring events in the corresponding Episode of the Skywalker Saga of Star Wars. In this episode, we look at these parallels and predict where this goes in Parts 5 and 6. PLUS: Our first impressions of Ms. Marvel and our reaction to Stranger Things 4: Part 1. | What Is Wrong With Obi Wan Kenobi? | 07 Jun 2022 | 01:13:06
Dad had a hard time with Part 3 of Obi Wan Kenobi. After viewing the episode MULTIPLE times, he's been able to reconcile what happened with his long existing headcanon (headcanon can be dangerous). But there are still a few outstanding questions he wants to discuss with Sam and Nate, the biggest being, "What's wrong with Obi Wan Kenobi?" PLUS: Sam helps us dig into the biggest news that came out of Star Wars Celebration, and Nate gets us ready for a DC comic books Crisis 30 years in the making. Along with BAD NEWS and MOVIE MOMENTS! | Talking To Two Guys Who Dont Know Star Wars - The Adam Glyn and Dax Holt Interview | 22 Apr 2022 | 00:39:10
Imagine this scenario with me… You didn’t grow up watching a galaxy far, far away like a lot of kids. Instead, you spent most days reading your mom’s People Magazine and US Weekly. What does that lead to as an adult? You become TMZ reporters and street interviewers like Adam Glyn and Dax Holt. This conversation is basically off the rails from the beginning, but you’re going to love it. Adam Glyn grew up in New Jersey just outside of New York City. Like many college graduates, Glyn had difficulty finding a job, so comedy found him. He became a staple in the New York Comedy scene performing at clubs all over the city and opening for headliners around the country. In 2010, Glyn was approached by a rising entertainment news outlet looking to expand into NY. He changed the paparazzi scene into “street journalism.” He interviewed the biggest politicians, musicians, actors, athletes, and social influencers in the world. Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump, Jimmy Carter, Tony Robbins, Tim Ferris, Floyd Mayweather, Connor McGregor, Shaquille O’Neal, David Letterman, Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Kevin Hart, Derek Jeter, Usher, Rihanna, Ronda Rousey, and many many more. Beyoncé even put him in her music video for the hit song, “XO.” Shaquille O’Neal is known for picking him up wherever he is, putting him in his car, and making him hang with him for the day. Widely cited for his journalism in the 2014 “Ray Rice news conference” with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, making the Yale Public Library for #4 Quote of 2014. Joining Adam is his co-host on Hollywood Raw Podcast, Dax Holt. During his 11 years at TMZ, Dax quickly became one of the most recognizable faces of Warner Brothers’ hit entertainment show. While with the organization, he earned two Emmy-nominations for his work and became their top on-air correspondent. Dax has appeared on countless other programs such as Access Hollywood, The Talk, Dish Nation, and more notably Live! with Kelly. His engaging personality led him to become a finalist during the widely publicized national search to co-host alongside Kelly Ripa. Dax’s wild sense of humor, contagious laugh, and presence on both the internet and television set him apart. Check out Dax and Adam and their podcast, Hollywood Raw at hollywoodraw.com! | What's Your Problem With Tony Stark? The A.C. Bradley Interview | 15 Apr 2022 | 00:30:43
Marvel’s What If…? is one of the trippiest, craziest, weirdest things to ever happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was very well received by both die hard and casual MCU fans. But it wasn’t without controversy… In this episode, I’m joined by the show’s head writer and executive producer, A.C. Bradley to answer the question that is on everyone’s mind: why were they so obsessed with killing Tony Stark? A.C. Bradley has written for some of your favorite shows including Trollhunters, 3Below, Arrow and of course, Marvel’s What If…? She’s won multiple Emmy Awards and what’s more amazing is she’s just getting started. | The Father of the Modern Superhero Movie: The Michael Uslan Interview | 08 Apr 2022 | 00:33:18
Imagine this scenario with me. You’re 16 years old. You’re a Batman SUPER fan. And your standing in front of the movie executive who is the reason that every Batman film and animated feature has been produced since 1989. And he’s just told you that you understand Batman perfectly. This is exactly what you’re about to hear in this conversation between BB-N8 and the living legend, Michael Uslan. It’s impossible to fully describe the debt that the modern day comic book nerd owes to Michael E. Uslan. Michael Uslan is the Executive Producer of all of the Batman features from Batman to The Batman and every animated feature and show in between. He won an Emmy Award for TV's "Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?" And he even taught the world's first accredited college course on comic books. He’s the author of Batman's Batman: A Memoir from Hollywood, Land of Bilk and Money and The Boy Who Loved Batman: A Memoir. If you’re a regular listener of Tatooine Sons, you know what a “pinch yourself” moment this is for BB-N8, our resident comic book nerd and Batman aficionado. When Nathan tried to describe for me what he was feeling on the morning of the interview, he said that it’s as big for him as it would be for me to interview Mark Hamill. | Reexamining The Sequel Trilogy: The Rise of Skywalker (Season 7 Episode 21) | 26 Jul 2024 | 00:34:24
In this episode, we dive deep into the monumental challenge faced by The Rise of Skywalker when it hit theaters in December 2019. Tasked with concluding the 9-film Skywalker Saga and reuniting a divided fan base, the film was promised to be "satisfying." But did it deliver? We'll kick off with a brief intro, followed by a discussion about Solo: A Star Wars Story, Colin Trevorrow’s Duel of the Fates, and the return of JJ Abrams alongside Chris Terio. We'll reminisce about the Episode IX panel at Star Wars Celebration Chicago and the iconic trailer reveal with Ian McDermid’s unforgettable "Roll it again" in Palpatine’s voice. Expectations for The Rise of Skywalker were sky-high, but did it meet them? We’ll share our initial reactions, what we loved, what we didn’t, and debate whether it was a “satisfying” conclusion to the saga. Despite its struggles, we acknowledge the film's remarkable moments and true Star Wars essence. We'll explore major themes in The Rise of Skywalker, such as community and collective action, overcoming family legacy, and the power of hope and faith, especially through Leia's unwavering hope in her son. As we anticipate the future of Star Wars films, including the upcoming Rey film continuing The Skywalker Saga, we reflect on the nearly five-year wait since the last movie. | What Makes a Good Star Wars Story? The Cavan Scott Interview | 11 Mar 2022 | 00:31:24
One of the ideas that we’ve tried to continue to present on this show for more than four years now, is that Star Wars is best when it’s viewed through the eyes of a children. A few months ago, I was scrolling through Twitter when I saw someone tweeting about how they were experiencing the same thing while watching Star Wars Rebels. That someone was none other than Star Wars author, Cavan Scott. He’s with me on today’s show to discuss it and a lot more. THIS is Tatooine Sons. Cavan Scott is a New York Times bestselling author whose work includes novels, television, comic books and award winning audio dramas. | The 5 Best Things About The Batman | 04 Mar 2022 | 00:39:10
It’s almost impossible to describe the height of expectations that BB-N8 had going into our viewing of The Batman earlier this week. He knows everything there is to know about the production of this movie. Read hundreds of reviews. And all this did was raise those expectations even higher. Coming into this week, his excitement had rubbed off on me and Sam and we were at a crazy level too. Did The Batman come close to delivering? If you’re a regular listener of Tatooine Sons you already know that BB-N8 is a massive fan of Batman comics and stories. He’s got hundreds of comics in his room, and has been anticipating this movie for years now. We had the privilege of seeing the special IMAX screening of The Batman on Tuesday evening, and we’re here to give our SPOILER FILLED thoughts on the Caped Crusader and his Rogues Gallery including The Riddler, The Penguin, Catwoman and… Well - maybe we’ll hold that last part back for later in the episode. | Working For Every Job: The Dominic Pace Interview | 25 Feb 2022 | 00:24:52
This interview is going to be unlike any you’ve heard before on Tatooine Sons. I’m joined by Dominic Pace. You’ve probably heard about him and his story of getting the chance to play a bounty hunter in Chapters 1 and 3 of The Mandalorian. He’s been on the show a couple of times before. But this interview isn’t about Star Wars. It’s about something so much more important. Dominic began studying with members of the Actors Studio Mimi Turque and Susan Batson in 1995. He then moved on to William Esper's two-year program where he studied under Terry Knickerbocker. He has been awarded "Best Actor" at the 2004 Palm Beach International Film Festival for his performance in the independent feature, Little Kings. He was a member of The MET Theater Company and the Tim Robbins Company, and The Actors' Gang in Los Angeles. During the Pandemic of 2020 and 2021, Dominic toured the country in an effort to support Small Business Comic Shops. Through autographs of his Gekko character from The Mandalorian, he helped raise over $35,000 for the stores, along with over $10,000 for charity. Mayors of Houston, TX and Sioux City, IA named a day after him in recognition for his contribution to the local economy. The Mayor of Cleveland, TN awarded Pace with the Key to the City. And now, Dominic has an important message he feels compelled to share with the world, that’s so much bigger than Star Wars. | Why Uncharted WORKS! | 22 Feb 2022 | 01:20:50
This Week on Tatooine Sons! Uncharted is a surprise box office hit! But critics don't seem to get it. Why? Is Uncharted a good film for fans of the series or not? We talk about that, along with everything we know (so far) about The Lord of the Rings series coming to Amazon Prime: The Rings of Power. And we bring back a segment of the top Star Wars headlines of the week, including a rumor about the director of Spider-Man: No Way Home coming to direct a Star Wars series being described as Stranger Things in Space (and set in the High Republic era). | The Legend of Terbus the Porg | 18 Feb 2022 | 01:12:59
If you’ve listened to this show before, you’ve heard the moment that BB-N8 asked Rian Johnson a question that changed Star Wars Canon forever. But that one moment is only a fraction of the story. This week, BB-N8 and Samuel the Hutt join me to look at all of the amazing twists and turns in what we call “The Legend of Terbus the Porg.” You already know the basics of the story: we get invited to IMAX HQ to watch The Last Jedi followed with a Q&A by Rian Johnson. BB-N8 works up the nerve to ask Rian about the name of the porg on the Millennium Falcon. Rian turns the question around on him. Nate answer with “Terbus.” And almost 2 years later Terbus is in an official Star Wars comic book series. But there are so many more moments and challenges and highs and lows that you’ve probably never heard about. In the immortal words of Lando Calrissian: “Buckle up, baby!” Prefer video? | Can Christian Comics be GOOD? - The Chronicles of Faith Interview | 04 Feb 2022 | 00:42:17
Some of the most amazing epic stories in all of history are found in the Bible. And over the years, many have tried to adapt these stories into comic book form. But too often, these comics end up disappointing. Today, I’m joined by two of the creative minds behind a new series that seeks to change all of that. Chronicles of Faith is a collaboration between Mercy Ways Studios and Brainy Pixel that has the potential to reinvent the Christian Comicbooks genre. Iván Anaya is a comic artist whose work experience includes companies like Image Comics, Dynamite Comics, DC Comics, among others. He has also made independent comics in Argentina, Bra zil, and El Salvador, was Conceptual and Narrative Artist at Stonebot Studios in the videogame area and now at Mercy Ways Studios as an Art Director and Lead Comic Artist and Writer. Creator of the series “Fear Not," which won the Best Children's Biblical project in Germany in 2017. Now, he leads Mercy Ways Studios team to create Chronicles of Faith. Joining me and Iván is Brannon Hollingsworth of Brainy Pixel. He’s an author, speaker, poet, producer, publisher, game designer, content creator, script writer, art director, and unapologetic Christ-follower. Brannon is the author or co-author of over a dozen novels, novellas, and short stories and the co-creator of a game that Forbes called “a clever idea well executed” and “excellent”. It’s been said that there are only seven stories in the world, and every movie, TV show, video game and book we love follows one of those plot points. I’m not sure I believe that at all.
