| How to tap when you can't put your finger on the exact emotions you are feeling (Pod #676) | 20 Nov 2025 | 00:12:01 | |
One of the biggest obstacles to tapping is knowing where to start. This is especially true when we know we are feeling something, but we can't quite put our finger on what that is. We might feel heavy or unsettled, or there is just something there at the edge of our consciousness. When this happens it can be hard to tap. We might start tapping and then peter out because it is hard to focus on something vague. This week in the podcast I am sharing a straightforward tool that I use when I am not sure how I am feeling. It takes advantage of the Feelings and Needs Inventory from the Center for Nonviolent Communications. Although this tool is simple, don't underestimate its power. | The scariest round of tapping ever (Pod #675) | 03 Oct 2025 | 00:14:37
One of the hardest phrases to say outloud is "I love and accept myself". The reason this phrase is so hard to say outloud is because we know ourselves. We know our failings. We know our mistakes. We know where we have fallen short. To say "I love and accept myself" feels like I am also accepting all of those failing and imperfections. Recently I was talking to my friend Brad Yates and we were talking about why self acceptance is so hard. He said something along the lines of "We believe if we just fixed ourselves then we can accept ourselves. It is the other way around, healing begins with self acceptance." Recently I have been trying a new self acceptance tapping practice. It is the single scariest tapping practice I have ever done. The idea came from a podcast interview with the rapper and musician MAVI done by Jesse Thorn on the podcast Bullseye. He talked about a practice had started doing where he was saying nice things about himself while doing something else. This "something else" takes self acceptance to a whole new level. For the last few months I have been doing this practice a few times a week while adding tapping. It is the single scariest tapping practice I have ever done. The first time I tried it I could barely do it for 30 seconds. This week in the podcast I share:
Even if you don't try this, you are going to want to listen to this as it will help you to transform your relationship with yourself. Support the podcast! Http://tappingqanda.com/support Subscribe in: Apple Podcast | iPhone | Spotify | Pandora | Amazon Music | iHeartRadio | YouTube

| What I wish I had known sooner (Pod #666) | 18 Jul 2025 | 00:19:45 | |
One of my favorite questions when interviewing someone about their tapping journey is, "If you could share one piece of advice with your younger self, what would that advice be?" For some reason I was reflecting on that question recently, not for someone I was interviewing, but for myself. The piece of advice that I would give to Gene-the-beginner-tapper would be to go more slowly. This week in the podcast, I share four different ways that I now move more slowly when I am tapping on my own or with clients. All four of them have transformed the way I tap for the better. Not only do I think these ideas would be useful for the younger version of myself, but I know that they will make your tapping more effective as well! Support the podcast! | Stages of Awareness – Healing Fundamentals (Part 11) (Pod #574) | 30 Aug 2023 | 00:18:19
When we are in physical or emotional pain and distress, we want to feel better right now. That is a natural human desire, but even though we want healing right away, it doesn't mean healing is going to happen right away. As disappointing as that is, there is good news. Even though healing often takes time, it is possible to identify the stages of the emotional and subconscious process we go through when healing, and understanding that process can speed our progress. Listen to this week's podcast for the next part in the Healing Fundamentals series in which we explore what I call the Six Stages of Awareness. Support the podcast! Http://tappingqanda.com/support

| You are taking too much responsibility – Healing Fundamentals (Part 10) (Pod #573) | 24 Aug 2023 | 00:14:11 | |
One of my favorite characteristics of my clients is their willingness to take responsibility for what is going on in their lives. When we take responsibility, we put ourselves into a position to create lasting change. At the same time, it is possible for us to take too much responsibility. Taking responsibility for the aspects of our lives that we do not control presents a number of problems. We end up being too hard on ourselves when things go badly, and we spend time and energy trying to change what we cannot. In this week's podcast we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series by looking at where we take too much responsibility, how to recalibrate our sense of responsibility so we can focus on the areas where we can effect real change. | Your loved ones want you to change (as long as they don't have to) – Healing Fundamentals (Part 9) (Pod #572) | 16 Aug 2023 | 00:20:13
In this week's podcast we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series by looking at the ways the people in our lives put up resistance when we heal and change. AND I don't mean the people who don't like us or those who are jealous of what we have. In this case I am talking about how our loved ones, sometimes the people who are our biggest fans, can resist and even get in the way of our healing, transformation, and success. This is because the people in our lives want us to change, just as long as they don't also have to change. In this week's podcast I break down why this happens, how it can hold us back from change and personal transformation, and what we can do to address the issue. Support the podcast! | When the new normal becomes the normal – Healing Fundamentals (Part 8) (Pod #571) | 09 Aug 2023 | 00:17:31
In this week's podcast we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series by looking at the subconscious mind in a completely different way. When we recognize the ways in which the subconscious mind holds us back from taking positive action, it is almost always in terms of the resistance and fear that come up. While this is true, it is not the only way the subconscious can get in our way. One of the unexpected obstacles to our healing and transformation has to do with the way in which the subconscious learns new information and how it evolves over time. In learning something new, the subconscious mind rapidly turns the new normal into the normal, and then almost completely forgets what was the old normal. This week in the podcast we explore why the new normal becoming the normal can be a block to us creating change and transformation. Support the podcast! Http://tappingqanda.com/support

| You are a notoriously bad eyewitness to your own experience – Healing Fundamentals (Part 7) (Pod #570) | 02 Aug 2023 | 00:16:08 | |
This week we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals by looking at why our subconscious mind and memory is faulty. The reality is that nobody has a perfect memory. Even those with a photographic memory cannot remember everything. In small ways, this can be a minor irritant as we misremember small details in our daily lives. These memory missteps can cause miscommunication and inconvenience. In big ways, our faulty memory can cause real issues as we navigate our day. If I misremember something as my fault, I may stop trusting myself. If I misremember myself as not doing something well enough, I might see myself as a failure. Our understanding of the world and of ourselves is based on our memories, so it is important that the stories we tell about ourselves and the world are as accurate as possible. This week in the podcast we look at why the human memory is faulty and (most importantly) what we can do about it to create deeper healing and more transformation in our lives. Support the podcast! This week we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series with a look at resistance. Just because we know what to do, how to do it, and why it is important to take an action, does not mean we will actually take that action. In order for us to take consistent action, we need to clear as much resistance as possible. In this week's podcast we take a deep dive into why resistance shows up and prevents us from taking action, AND how to clear that resistance so that we can keep taking positive action over time to create lives we love. | Using Tapping in the Correctional System for Trauma, Addiction and Recovery w/ Kerri Rhodes (Pod #568) | 20 Jul 2023 | 01:04:11
The Helping Addicts Recover Progressively (HARP) program at the county jail in Chesterfield, VA is a beacon of hope and light in the world. The program is designed to help inmates who are struggling with issues of addiction to heal and recover so that when they are released, they are able to live healthier and happier lives. One of the many tools taught in the program is Trauma Tapping Technique (TTT), which is a version of tapping created by the Peaceful Heart Network. As part of this year's 24 Hours of Tapping event we were lucky enough to have a conversation with Kerri Rhodes who works full time in the HARP Program, as well as hearing from one of the jail deputies and a number of the inmates. They share their stories of how they learned tapping, how it has helped them, and how they have shared it with the other people in their lives. This conversation will not only touch your heart, but it will inspire you to tap more and to share tapping with others. It was such an honor to have this conversation and I highly recommend that you check it out right now! Support the podcast! | Operative reality is reality to the subconscious mind – Healing Fundamentals (Part 5) (Pod #567) | 12 Jul 2023 | 00:15:48
This week we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series by looking at how the subconscious mind's understanding of the world influences every choice we make. The subconscious mind is a valuable tool in helping us to navigate the world. It holds all our understanding about how the world works in the form of memories, patterns, stories, and beliefs. This allows us to navigate the world without having to think constantly about our environment and everything we are experiencing. Problems arise, however, when one of the beliefs about ourselves or the world that is stored in the subconscious mind is wrong. When this happens, we base our action on faulty information, which can only lead to problems. In this week's podcast we explore how the subconscious impacts our choices in the moment AND how we can transform the inaccurate information from which it is working. Support the podcast! | FIXED AUDIO The negativity bias of the subconscious – Healing Fundamentals (Part 4) (Pod #566) | 05 Jul 2023 | 00:15:28
This week we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series with a lesson that is critical to understand if you want to clear self-sabotage and take more consistent action. One of the best parts of our subconscious mind is that it is a learning machine. It takes in all of our experiences and uses them to decipher how the world works. The type of lessons it is best at learning are around keeping us safe. The subconscious mind takes note of when something goes wrong and remembers it so that we can avoid it in the future. The problem comes when it only remembers negative memories, or it gives too much weight to negative memories. That is why we say the subconscious mind has a "negativity bias"; it is biased toward the negative. This week in the podcast we examine the negativity bias and how you can use tapping to overcome it. | Excuses v. Explanations (Pod #665) | 10 Jul 2025 | 00:13:58
Finding a balance between taking responsibility for our lives and taking too much responsibility for what is going on is a tricky matter. Taking too much responsibility may seem like a silly notion, but it can happen in many ways. One of these ways is when we refuse to allow ourselves grace or forgiveness. We recognize that we have made a mistake and then, whether consciously or unconsciously, we decide that we are not allowed to get past it. As part of our penance we beat ourselves up, thinking it will lead to us making better choices in the future. When we think about the context of the mistake we think, "That is just an excuse. I should have done better!" It is possible for us to know that we could have done better AND to recognize the context at the same time. We aren't making an excuse when we do this, but we are giving an explanation. In this week's podcast, I explore the difference between excuses and explanations. Understanding the key difference between the two will help to find a path that includes both taking responsibility and offering ourselves grace. Not understanding the difference will keep us stuck. | We are always making the best possible choice – Healing Fundamentals (Part 3) (Pod #565) | 29 Jun 2023 | 00:16:08
This week we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series with what I think is the most controversial fundamental of the whole series...at least at first glance. One of the biggest complaints I hear from my clients is when they are berating themselves for all of the times they have made poor choices, even when "they should have known better!" When this happens, they beat themselves up emotionally for being "so stupid" or "weak" or "thoughtless". The reality is we are always making the best possible choice. This is a healing fundamental (with two important caveats) and once understood, your personal transformation and healing will be easier, and longer lasting. | The Information of Emotion – Healing Fundamentals (Part 1) (Pod #563) | 15 Jun 2023 | 00:16:22
It can often feel like our negative emotions are the enemy and it makes sense why. When we experience negative emotions, we feel bad AND they also get in the way of us making better choices in the moment. That is why when Gary Craig created his version of tapping, he called it "Emotional Freedom Techniques" because there is such a strong human desire to escape strong negative emotions. For me, the process isn't just about escaping negative emotions, but also understanding them. Each of the negative emotions we feel is our internal guidance system trying to communicate a specific piece of information via the emotion. An understanding of what information the emotion is trying to convey makes the journey to healing and transformation so much easier! This week's podcast is the first in a new series on Healing Fundamentals that will explore the underpinnings of the transformational process. The information conveyed by our emotions is the first part of the series because I believe that it is the lynchpin in the wider healing process. Here is how I think about what negative emotions are trying to say and, most importantly, how we can use that information to create transformation. | What goes wrong if I am successful? – Finding Root Causes (Part 4) (Pod #562) | 08 Jun 2023 | 00:13:44
The fear of success is the single most difficult type of resistance to uncover. I know it sounds strange to fear success, but it is a lot more common than you might think. The subconscious mind may fear success because it is worried that we might have success and then lose it, or once we have it, it becomes hard to maintain, or we will have to keep working really hard (if not harder) to maintain that success, to name just a few scenarios. Because it doesn't seem logical or obvious to fear success, it can be hard to uncover those limiting beliefs. This week in the podcast I share some simple questions you can ask yourself (or your clients) to uncover fears around being successful when working on taking positive action towards your goals. | "I know you don't know the answer but..." – Finding Root Causes (Part 3) (Pod #561) | 31 May 2023 | 00:11:24
After working with clients for many years, I have come to the realization that we are notoriously bad eyewitnesses to our own experiences. We are great at telling stories about our experiences, our past, and our traumas, but unfortunately they aren't always true. This can hinder our transformation because without a clear understanding of our experience, it is hard to heal. We can spend time tapping on issues that feel big and important, only to find out that they have nothing to do with the root cause of the issue at hand. In this week's podcast I share a phrase that will make it easier to get accurate information about your own experience and speed the healing process. You can use this phrase when tapping on your own and when working with clients. You can even use the phrase in a normal conversation when helping out a friend. Support the podcast! | Three lenses for uncovering resistance – Finding Root Causes (Part 2) (Pod #560) | 24 May 2023 | 00:19:34
Sometimes we have to do tasks that we just don't like because they are no fun, such as having to scrub the inside of a smelly old garbage can, or doing yard work at three in the afternoon on a hot summer's day. There are other tasks where the reason we avoid doing them is less clear. Hidden behind our reluctance is the key to understanding our resistance to taking action. When we are able to decode our resistance and uncover the hidden meaning behind it, then we have a powerful tool for clearing our self-sabotaging behaviors. This week in the podcast I share with you three lenses you can use to find hidden limiting beliefs in the tasks you don't like. Support the podcast! | Two questions I always ask when tapping – Finding Root Causes (Part 1) (Pod #559) | 17 May 2023 | 00:17:00
Just because we know what to do, how to do it, and have everything we need to take action, it doesn't mean we actually take action. For me, this is one of the most frustrating places to be because it is clear that I am set up for success AND I am the one getting in my own way. The tricky part of this situation is identifying the resistance hindering us from taking action because it is seldom obvious. We wind up frustrated and confused by our inaction, and then we beat ourselves up for not taking action. This week in the podcast I share two simple questions you can ask yourself to help uncover the root causes of your reluctance to move forward. | "This or something better..." – My favorite tapping phrases (Part 9) (Pod #558) | 10 May 2023 | 00:12:58
As humans, we are great at complaining! And I don't mean that as a put-down because there is a sound evolutionary reason why we excel at complaining. A complaint is a recognition of something that is bad, painful, or distasteful. This is the subconscious mind's way of keeping us safe. When we point out what is negative, it makes it easier to recognize and avoid it in future. The problem is that the subconscious is good at avoiding the undesirable, but poor at finding what is better. This week we are continuing the My Favorite Tapping Phrases series with a phrase that will help you to find what you want instead. | "I give my emotions permission to be heard..." – My favorite tapping phrases (Part 8) (Pod #557) | 03 May 2023 | 00:14:02
It is so common to apologize when we get emotional in front of others. You may feel like you are overreacting, or being extra, or that you are burdening the people around you. Awareness of how our emotions can impact others is a good thing, BUT it is also important that we don't just bottle up or suppress strong emotions. In this week's podcast, we are continuing the My Favorite Tapping Phrases Series with the phrase I use for myself and with clients when strong or difficult emotions arise. | "AND it does not determine what comes next..." – My favorite tapping phrases (Part 7) (Pod #556) | 26 Apr 2023 | 00:14:57
Our subconscious mind is brilliant at figuring out cause and effect relationships. That is how we learn. If I touch a hot stove and it hurts, I learn not to touch a hot stove again. I smile at someone and find that they are more likely to be nice to me, so I learn that people often reflect my behavior. Because all of this happens at an unconscious level, we don't notice these connections. Instead, we are constantly learning from observation and experience in the background. This is great…EXCEPT when we learn the wrong lessons! One of the ways in which the subconscious mind learns the wrong lesson is by assuming that because something was a certain way in the past, it will be that same way in the future. Our past impacts and informs our future, but it does not predetermine what comes next. This week, as we continue the My Favorite Tapping Phrase Series, I share the tapping phrase I use to help create a shift from feeling stuck in the past, to creating a new path forward. I also explain how easy it is to add this phrase to your current tapping practice. Support the podcast! Http://tappingqanda.com/support

| Does staying stuck keep you safe? (Pod #664) | 26 Jun 2025 | 00:13:42 | |
One of the ideas that really makes my clients bristle is the possibility that their self-sabotaging behaviors are guided by their system's well-meaning intention to keep them safe. They question, "How is it possible that my subconscious mind thinks it is trying to keep me safe when all it is doing is making my life harder?" That is a great question because it feels counterintuitive that our desire to be safe is actually holding back our progress. This week in the podcast, we explore why the subconscious mind gets in the way in trying to keep us safe AND the first step to overcoming this common issue. I believe that this is one of the most important concepts in all of tapping and if you aren't doing it, you are slowing your progress and also limiting your tapping results. Support the podcast! | "I know it is a healing process AND..." – My favorite tapping phrases (Part 3) (Pod #552) | 29 Mar 2023 | 00:10:50
One of the exciting prospects that tapping opens up for us is the possibility of creating meaningful change in our lives. AND tapping creates that internal change much faster than many other tools. This speed is great, except for the fact it can also give rise to unrealistic expectations about how quickly we believe transformation should happen. When the change we want does not happen instantaneously (or as quickly as we would like), it is easy to feel frustrated, or even demotivated, in the midst of the healing process. This week I share my favorite tapping phrase to help with this frustration. As an added bonus, of all the tapping phrases I use with my clients, this is the one that is most likely to cause them to laugh (and humor can be a great tool in the healing process). | "I give myself permission" – My favorite tapping phrases (Part 2) (Pod #551) | 22 Mar 2023 | 00:15:15
The main job of the subconscious mind is to keep us safe. It is constantly on the alert for anything in our environment that could be harmful. This is great...except when it is not. It is not so great when it causes us needless worry. Even with its constant desire to keep us from harm, the subconscious mind is good at recognizing the places in our lives where we are normally safe. For example, many people regard their home as a place of safe and predictable sanctuary, so their whole system relaxes when they walk in their front door. I have found using the phrase "I give myself permission..." can do exactly the same thing when we are tapping. Letting our subconscious mind know it is in a safe space allows it to be less vigilant and more relaxed, which in turn makes healing easier. In this week's podcast I share the many different contexts in which I use the phrase "I give myself permission..." and how you can start to use it in your tapping right away. Support the podcast! | "I recognize the fact" – My favorite tapping phrases (Part 1) (Pod #550) | 15 Mar 2023 | 00:13:07
I love to learn and in the first decade of my tapping life, I consumed everything I could about tapping and transformation. I subscribed to every newsletter I could find, I listened to podcasts, read books, and attended many live trainings. In the process, I came across the work of Milton Erikson, the founder of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis, who is often referred to as the Dean of American Hypnosis. Right away, I latched on to his idea that "All transformation starts by stating what is." By this, Milton Erikson meant that we cannot create real and lasting change until we level with ourselves. If we are unwilling to be honest about what we are struggling with and where we are stuck, then it is practically impossible to create meaningful change. I see this idea as so important that if you go back and listen to any of the tap-alongs I have created in the last 10 years, you will find reference to this idea. In this week's podcast, I share with you how I employ this idea in my tapping, and how you can add it to your tapping right away! Support the podcast! | Tapping for possibility (Pod #549) | 08 Mar 2023 | 00:15:46
One of the primary functions of our subconscious mind is to keep us safe. The subconscious is constantly on the lookout for possible danger or trouble, and steers us away from anything that is unpredictable, such as taking new and bold action. In seeking to avoid putting us at risk, our subconscious will choose the predictably bad over the unpredictable. One of the ways to ease the resistance created by the subconscious is to tap on possibilities. In this week's podcast I teach you how I tap for possibility and how this will make taking action so much easier. Support the podcast! | Setting a tapping session up for success (Pod #548) | 01 Mar 2023 | 00:15:36
In most areas of my life, I have found that taking some time to think about what I am trying to accomplish and my motivation sets me up for a better outcome. I am more present to the action I am taking. I am more attentive to what is and is not working. And I am much more likely to take the most effective actions because I'm clear about what I am trying. This is especially true with tapping. Without clarity on what you are trying to achieve with a round of tapping, it is easy to jump from issue to issue without ever completely clearing any one issue. It is also hard to gauge whether or not to continue tapping on an issue without a clear sense of your goal. Last weekend I led a mindset expansion day for a number of my students. We spent close to four hours tapping on those niggly internal limiting beliefs that hold us back from creating authentic lives that we love. To start the day, we did some tapping around the group's intentions for the day. It was a powerful round of tapping and it was the perfect set-up for a powerful day of transformation. This is something you can do before every round of tapping to get even more benefit out of your sessions. In this week's podcast I teach you how I set my intention for a tapping session AND I include the tapping we did as a group. Support the podcast! | Tapping for loneliness and disconnection (Pod #547) | 22 Feb 2023 | 00:15:42
A recent Harvard study found that 36% of the population of the United States, with some groups (such as young adults) experiencing a much higher prevalence of loneliness. Not only does the study point out that loneliness is becoming a serious issue, it also shows "the potentially steep costs of loneliness, including early mortality and a wide array of serious physical and emotional problems, including depression, anxiety, heart disease, substance abuse, and domestic abuse." I know that I have experienced more loneliness and disconnection in the last few years than at any other period in my life, and even post-pandemic it's a concern I work on with many of my clients. In this week's podcast I share a simple tap-along audio to help with the feeling of loneliness and disconnection. | 4 things I say out loud before every tapping session (Pod #546) | 15 Feb 2023 | 00:18:05
Recently, I was watching the behind-the-scenes documentary of Six Impossible Things. Six Impossible Things was a magic show created by one of the best close-up magicians alive today, Joshua Jay. In the documentary Joshua and his creative team not only reveal how the tricks are done, but they explain everything they did to create the show and make it a success. Near the end of the documentary Joshua shares the three phrases he reads to himself before every show to ensure he is ready. As a performer myself, I know how easy it is not to be fully present to a presentation that you have given hundreds or thousands of times. I liked the idea so much that I asked myself the question, "What do I want to remind myself of before each client call to ensure I am at my best for every client?" After playing with the idea for a number of weeks, I settled on four phrases that I say to myself before every client session. In this week's podcast I share those phrases with you, and how you can use them yourself, whether tapping with a client or on your own. Even if you don't use my phrases, I have a feeling that my thought process will help you to figure out what reminders you need to get the most out of tapping. Support the podcast! | The secret to tapping more and healing faster (Pod #663) | 29 May 2025 | 00:16:27
For some issues, tracking progress is simple. I can tell if my desk is less cluttered, if I can lift more weight while working out, or if I am making more sales in my business. That is because these examples are measured in hard metrics, or in other words, cold, hard numbers. Changes that are measured in soft metrics are more difficult to track. For example, it is much harder to quantify growth in my self-esteem or confidence. Much of the transformation we are trying to achieve with tapping is measured in soft metrics. Because it is hard to measure, it can escape our notice and therefore is more likely to be missed. And that results in us thinking that change isn't happening at all, because we don't see it. This can undermine our healing and can demotivate us from tapping more. In this week's podcast, we explore three simple ways we can more accurately track soft metrics and recognize our progress. In turn, this leads to more tapping, which (most importantly) results in more healing and transformation. This understanding changed the way I tapped forever because it means I am tapping more, leading to more transformation. I believe these three measures are something every tapper should have in their transformational tool box. Support the podcast! Http://tappingqanda.com/support

| Tapping to regain focus (Pod #545) | 10 Feb 2023 | 00:17:33 | |
I recorded this podcast two weeks after returning from East Africa. Even two weeks after getting home, I was having a really hard time staying focused. My body was recovering from crossing seven time zones and the shock of adjusting from 97° F one day, to 7° F the next. My heart and mind were still recovering from the many stories of suffering and overcoming that suffering that we heard in schools, a prison, and refugee camps. Even if you haven't traveled from the other side of the world, you might not feel as present and grounded as you'd like. In this week's podcast I share with you a simple tap-along that will take you less than four minutes and will help you to be more present and grounded in this moment. Support the podcast! | Is it an emotional or a physical issue? (Pod #544) | 07 Dec 2022 | 00:14:30
Scientific research is increasingly backing up what those of us in the space of transformation have known for decades: our emotional health impacts our physical health. On one level, this is very exciting. It offers us fresh ways to think about the healing process and frees us from only thinking about the body as a machine that sometimes breaks down. On another level, it brings a new level of complexity to the healing process. When we experience physical discomfort, is that because of a physical issue, an emotional issue…or both? These new options may make deciding on the best path to healing more difficult. In this week's podcast I explore how I think about both physical and emotional issues AND how to figure out where to start with your tapping. Support the podcast! | I want more for you than just improving your tapping (Pod #543) | 01 Dec 2022 | 00:23:39
In September of 2007 I created Tapping Q and A with the express purpose of creating resources that would make it easier for people to get the most out of tapping. The tag line has been "Answers to the most common (and uncommon) questions about tapping, so that you can get the most out of each round of tapping." Recently, I have had a change of heart. I no longer want to help people just to tap more effectively. Instead, I want to help them to create lives they love by using tapping more effectively. That might not seem like a very big change. It might even appear to be no change at all. For me, the change is significant. In this week's podcast I explain what I mean by this shift in focus, and how I believe it will make tapping a more useful tool for you in practice. I would love to hear your thoughts on this idea in the comments below. Support the podcast! | Thankful vs Grateful (Pod #542) | 24 Nov 2022 | 00:16:29
For most people, the words thankful and grateful are interchangeable. But even though they are very similar, there is a small but significant difference between their definitions. I am not super concerned about whether you are using either word correctly, however I do think that there is an important distinction between thankful and grateful as it relates to our healing and transformation work. I was introduced to the distinction in one of my favorite podcasts Go Fact Yourself. Go Fact Yourself is a quiz show in which the first round is called Split The Difference where the contestants are asked to provide definitions of two words that are very close in meaning to illustrate their difference. In episode 114 the contestants were asked to split the difference between thankful and grateful. The correct answer was a revelation for me! In this week's podcast I share the difference between thankful and grateful, as well as how both of those fit into our transformational process. Support the podcast! | Using the Tao Te Ching as a tapping tool (Pod #541) | 26 Oct 2022 | 00:13:58
When we are tapping there is no such thing as the "right" or "best" words to use in our tapping phrases. There are words and phrases that are useful, and there are words and phrases that aren't useful. One set of phrases might work perfectly one day, but not so well the next. The words we use are often related directly to what is going on in our lives, what we are feeling in our body, or what issue we would like to clear. But it doesn't have to be that way. Sometimes the most useful words are written by someone else that we didn't even know we needed to tap on. Over the last few weeks I have been doing a little experimental tapping work in what I call The Tapping Lab. (You can read more about the lab here.) One of the experiments that I did was tapping to an English translation of the Tao Te Ching. In that process I came across a chapter that turned out to contain the perfect tapping phrases for me. In this week's podcast I share my experience of tapping with the Tao Te Ching, how you can do the same with this (or any) text, and I share with you the chapter that resonated so powerfully for me. You can even tap along with me on how to create new and healthier ways of showing up in the world. | Are you being TOO hard on yourself? (Pod #540) | 12 Oct 2022 | 00:15:13
I am always open to feedback from my readers, even when it is critical. We are all notoriously bad eyewitnesses to our own experience, so this sort of feedback can be helpful in understanding how we are perceived by others. One piece of feedback that I have heard a number of times in the last few months is that I come across as very hard on myself. I think this is down to two reasons. First, in an effort to share my experience with you so that you can avoid some of the mistakes I have made, I tend to focus on my past struggles in my writings and recording. Second, I am probably hard on myself more often than I should be! In this week's podcast I explore the line between being overly self-critical and being honest with ourselves so that we can create meaningful change in our lives. I then do some tapping on the issue, which I think you too may find useful. Support the podcast! | Do you want to be whole? (Pod #539) | 28 Sep 2022 | 00:15:08
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be one of the speakers at the 2022 Energy Fest put on by Donna Eden and David Feinsten. I wasn't just lucky to be in the room, but also to have the opportunity to hear presentations from world-class speakers who are doing some of the most provocative healing work out there. One of those speakers was the transcendent Dr. Thema Bryant. I do not have the words to describe the force of nature that this woman is. Her presentation was worth the price of admission alone. At one point during Dr. Bryant's presentation, she asked the question "Do you want to be whole?" The audience quickly and enthusiastically screamed back "YES!" Dr. T paused, smiled a smile as radiant as one thousand suns, and asked "Are you sure?" She then proceeded to talk about what is required to be whole. The question then wasn't really "Do you want to be whole?", but instead "Are you willing to do the work that is required to be whole?" That is a much deeper (and harder) question to answer. I went directly from the Energy Fest to boarding a cruise ship with my family to sail up the Northeastern coast of the US and into the Maritime provinces of Canada. This gave me a lot of time to stare over the ocean and ponder this question. This week in the podcast I share what that question stirred in me. I have also included some of the tapping prompted by my reflection as I pondered the process of becoming whole. Support the podcast! | How someone who works with self-sabotage daily ended up self-sabotaging (Pod #538) | 07 Sep 2022 | 00:22:16
I am incredibly proud of the 24 Hours of Tapping and the fact that we raised over $31,000 for the Peaceful Heart Network. What you don't know is that a key reason why I ran the event is because I was running away from something else. That wasn't the only reason I ran the event. It wasn't the primary reason I ran the event. BUT it was a major factor in running the event. In this week's podcast I share with you what I was running from, why I was running, and the lessons I learned from finally facing my fears. | Why does healing have to be a process? (Pod #537) | 31 Aug 2022 | 00:13:51
One of the biggest frustrations of the tapping process is the fact that it is a process. One-minute miracles do exist, but they are rare. Naturally, part of us would like transformation to happen immediately, while another part of us understands that healing is more often a process that takes time. When these two parts are in conflict, it can slow down your healing progress. In this week's podcast, I share how to manage this sort of internal discord so that you can smooth the way for more rapid and lasting healing. | Balancing kindness with authenticity (Pod #536) | 10 Aug 2022 | 00:17:06
Recently I was working with a client who was struggling with her wish to communicate some hard truths with certain friends in her life. She felt stuck because she knew that her friends would not like what she wanted to share. On one hand, she knew what she needed to say AND at the exact same time, she did not want to be unkind. Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation where our desire to be authentic and our desire to be kind are in conflict. | Tapping to clear your resistance to change (Pod #662) | 22 May 2025 | 00:19:18
One of our biggest struggles in creating transformation and change in our lives is those moments where we know WHAT to do, we know HOW to do it, and we know WHY it is valuable to take an action…and yet we just don't. It is obvious what the next step is and for some reason we don't take it. Then, as a bonus, we beat ourselves up for not taking action. So as well as not moving forward, we feel bad for letting ourselves down. This week in the podcast we explore where this resistance comes from, how to overcome it and (just as importantly) we will tap for all the emotions that come up when we let ourselves down. If you are trying to create change in your life, then you must listen to this episode. Support the podcast! | What motorcycle jumps and lily pads have to do with healing (Pod #535) | 03 Aug 2022 | 00:14:22
In the last few months I have been giving a lot of thought to the nature of tapping and its applications. For the longest time I have thought of tapping as an approach to creating transformation. I am starting to change my mind about this. Instead of being a single approach, I begin to understand tapping as a tool that can accommodate multiple approaches that are dictated by the issue we are working on, the skill of the tapping practitioner, and whether we are working alone or with someone else. The first level of analysis involves developing my understanding of what the healing process looks like for a particular issue. Recently, I have been describing this with the help of an analogy involving motorcycle jumps and lily pads. In this week's podcast I talk about the difference between these two approaches and how they can make all the difference in the transformation that you can achieve with tapping. Support the podcast! | The difference between need, desire, and preference AND why it is important in transformational work (Pod #533) | 01 Jun 2022 | 00:13:46
One of the concepts from my NLP training that has stayed with me is the idea that we don't emotionally respond to how the world is, but instead to how we describe the world. An example I often use is of someone saying "Everyone at work hates me!" It is possible that everyone at work might hate the person making that claim, but it is unlikely to be everyone. BUT if that is how work is described, then the person saying this will walk into their office with their guard up, fearing every interaction with their co-workers. In this week's podcast we dive into the difference between need, desire, and preference, and how you can incorporate this understanding into your tapping practice to allow for more rapid personal transformation.
