Ep 8. GUIDELINES - BSR prescribing in pregnancy guidelines: what's new? 02 Nov 202200:13:34

BSR has published two updated guidelines with recommendations for using rheumatological drugs during conception, all stages of pregnancy, breastfeeding and in men who wish to conceive. 

The guidelines have been split into two parts covering:  

  • prescribing medications to treat co-morbidities in rheumatic diseases during pregnancy and breastfeeding  
  • prescribing immunomodulatory drugs during pregnancy and breastfeeding, including biologics and small molecule drugs

BSR has published an update to the axial spondyloarthritis guideline.

It's almost 10 years since the last iteration of the guideline. Our understanding and awareness of the disease has increased enormously. We now have 10 different therapies licensed for advanced management of axial spondyloarthritis, which are broadly divided into three different classes: TNF inhibitors, IL17 and JAK inhibitors.

BSR has published a new guideline for the assessment and management of foot problems in adults, children and young people with inflammatory arthritis.

Foot problems are almost universal in people with inflammatory arthritis, and virtually all people with inflammatory arthritis will experience foot problems at some point in the course of their disease. Despite this, we know that there is considerable unmet need. The guideline will cover foot problems in a number of different rheumatic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
