| Thaine Morris: The Man Who Blew Up the Death Star II | 28 Aug 2024 | 00:11:12 | |
Today is a rare conversation with Thaine Morris, an Oscar-nominated special effects artist, who worked as a pyrotechnician blowing up many many things on many many movies, including The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Return of the Jedi. This was recorded live at this summer’s REBEL SCUM CON, and is full of great stories of Mr. Morris’ time working in a galaxy far, far away. Mr. Morris was such a good sport and chatted all about his incredible, indelible work. He is a true artist, and it was a real honor to talk to him A ton more episodes from Rebel Scum Con are coming VERY SOON, including the return of Misty Rosas, as well as Amy Allen, Michonne Bourriague, Nalini Krishan, and Ahmed Best so … stay tuned. In other news … I co-wrote an official Star Wars book. I cannot believe it. Star Wars Encyclopedia from DK Books is coming out this fall and can be pre-ordered now. More info to come, believe me. | John Morton: Luke's Co-Pilot Dak and Bespin Boba Fett | 21 Aug 2024 | 00:12:08
Today is my conversation with the incredibly kind John Morton, who appeared as both Luke Skywalker’s Battle of Hoth co-pilot, Dak Ralter, and Boba Fett on Bespin, in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. This was recorded live at this summer’s Rebel Scum Con, and is full of great stories of Mr. Morton’s time in Star Wars, as well as The Shining. It is always such an honor to talk with these Original Trilogy legends, and especially a man behind the mando mask. A ton more episodes from Rebel Scum Con are coming VERY SOON, including Thaine Morris, Misty Rosas returning, Amy Allen, Michonne Bourriague, Nalini Krishan, and Ahmed Best so … stay tuned. In other news … I co-wrote an official Star Wars book. I cannot believe it. Star Wars Encyclopedia from DK Books is coming out this fall and can be pre-ordered now. More info to come, believe me. | Richard Young: "Fedora" from LAST CRUSADE (We Named the Pod Indiana) | 10 Jan 2024 | 00:15:20
"You lost today, kid. But that doesn't mean you have to like it." Thank you for tuning in to We Named the Pod Indiana, a Talking Bay 94 spin-off podcast devoted to interviews with the cast, crew and creators who brought Indiana Jones to life. I’m your host, Brandon Wainerdi, and today’s episode is a rare conversation with Richard Young, the man behind the fedora in the opening scenes of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Was he supposed to be Abner Ravenwood? Are there plans to bring back his character? Find out! This quick conversation was recorded live at maybe my favorite convention in the world, the great Dallas Comic Show. There’s some background noise, etc. but it is a fantastic chat with an true icon. If you missed the first episode of this mini Indiana Jones spin-off, check out my interview with Belloq himself, Paul Freeman. We have a few more Indy episodes in the works, including next week with Young Indiana Jones, Sean Patrick Flanery. Then it will be back to Star Wars and our regularly scheduled programming, don’t worry. And, if you’re enjoying the show, please head to Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to these episodes and leave us a five-star rating and review! It means the world. That’s all for now … until next episode, stay tuned, leave that 5 star review, and May the Force Be with you (?).
| Terryl Whitlatch: Designing Jar Jar Binks, Sebulba and Dewbacks for STAR WARS | 22 Jul 2020 | 00:44:25 | |
The incredibly talented artist responsible for the designs of Jar Jar Binks, Sebulba and so many more in The Phantom Menace is the legendary Terryl Whitlatch. Just flip through a dog-eared copy of Art Of TPM and see for yourself. Ms. Whitlatch’s contributions to the saga cannot be overstated: whether it was the Dewbacks and new Jabba denizens of the Special Editions, the Podracer pilots or the creatures of Naboo’s planet core, I am just thrilled and honored to be able to share her story with you all and I hope you enjoy it as much as you’ll be quickly able to tell that I did. I don’t think I’ve gushed in an interview like this before, but please correct me if I’m wrong. I just want to thank Ms. Whitlatch again for the incredible, incredible interview. In the upcoming episodes, we’ll have Disney Imagineering’s Scott Trowbridge, as well as Masi Oka, who you may know as Hiro from HEROES, but who also worked at ILM during the Prequels. (I’ve teased quite a few more guests on our Talking Bay Twitter and Instagram accounts, so follow there to stay up to date.) | THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK at 40: An Anniversary Celebration | 21 May 2020 | 00:23:36
Today May 21, 2020 is the 40th anniversary of the best movies (and one of my favorite movies) of all time: The Empire Strikes Back. With the two year anniversary of this podcast happening this week, as well, I thought it would be fun for me to go back through the past 65 or so episodes of this show and pull some of my favorite moments from some of my favorite guests, as they talk about what it was like, firsthand, to work on the sequel to Star Wars. If you know me at all, this look back focuses mostly on the special effects: Industrial Light and Magic’s move from Van Nuys to San Rafael, the Hoth sequences, the Tauntauns, the walkers, and go motion. I’ll be introducing the previous guests who are talking throughout, but just know that it is a combination of ILM wizards, legendary editors and unsung heroes. I’m talking about a total of 16 Academy Awards won in this 25 minute episode. So let’s all just buckle up and take a trip back even before that 1980 release, before we knew who Luke’s father was and before anyone of us had ever even seen The Empire Strikes Back. It is always so appreciated if you can leave a 5-star review of the show on your favorite podcast app or on Podchaser: podchaser.com/TalkingBay94 For more behind-the-scenes stuff, as well as a link to some of our other in-depth interviews, check out: Website: www.TalkingBay94.com Twitter: www.twitter.com/TalkingBay94 Facebook: www.facebook.com/TalkingBay94 Instagram: www.instagram.com/TalkingBay94
| Dan Madsen: Creator of the STAR WARS INSIDER and STAR WARS CELEBRATION | 13 May 2020 | 00:36:44 | |
If you've ever read an issue of the Star Wars Insider or attended Star Wars Celebration, you've got today's guest, Dan Madsen, to thank. Founder of the Lucasfilm Fan Club, Mr. Madsen got his start as the president of the Star Trek Fan Club, eventually coming to LFL in a time when there were no new Star Wars movies being made. Whether talking about those early days of the magazine, his cameo in The Phantom Menace, or the rainy start of Star Wars Celebration Denver, Mr. Madsen’s love of the fan community and his passion for projects like Her Universe is evident in every answer. It really is an honor to have Mr. Madsen on the show, if only to thank him profusely for the Insider articles that are still some of the best, most comprehensive resources out there, for Star Wars fans. Make sure to check out his newest venture, Svaha, filled with some incredibly cool clothes and apparel, focused on STEAM, at: svahausa.com It is always so appreciated if you can leave a 5-star review of the show on your favorite podcast app or on Podchaser: podchaser.com/TalkingBay94 For more behind-the-scenes stuff, as well as a link to some of our other in-depth interviews, check out: Website: www.TalkingBay94.com Twitter: www.twitter.com/TalkingBay94 Facebook: www.facebook.com/TalkingBay94 Instagram: www.instagram.com/TalkingBay94

You may know Sam Witwer as Starkiller from THE FORCE UNLEASHED and, of course, the voice of Maul in THE CLONE WARS, REBELS and SOLO. But, right before we talked (just a few days before the first episode of THE SIEGE OF MANDALORE premiered), he tweeted "this may be the best thing we've ever done", so we had to talk about that first. After that, though, just buckle up for almost an hour of incredible stories, lore and the importance of "George Lucas Star Wars". You can find him on Twitter at @SamWitwer and on Instagram at @switwer1, as well as his website: samwitwer.com. | Rest in Peace: Alan Harris (1938 - 2020) | 31 Jan 2020 | 00:14:31
Hey everyone, it's Brandon. I just wanted to take a second and put this episode (Episode 47, from this past fall) back in your feeds because today it was announced that Mr. Alan Harris had passed away at the age of 81. I am so glad I got to meet him and chronicle his story. He was so generous with his time and such a delight to be around. I hope you enjoy this brief window into his experience with the saga and its fans, and spend a second to remember someone who gave so much to this community. Alan Harris is perhaps most famous for portraying one of the most iconic aliens in Star Wars: the fearsome bounty hunter Bossk, in The Empire Strikes Back. However, he had roles in each of the Original Trilogy, as well as returned to the saga briefly, two decades later, to appear in The Phantom Menace. From being the first person to wear a Boba Fett costume (now the famous white "Prototype Fett") to becoming the mold for Han Solo in Carbonite, Mr. Harris' contributions to the saga are both so surprising and so important. RIP Alan Harris.

| Paul Dini / Stephen Langford: Legendary Writer of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, as well as EWOKS and DROIDS | 10 Nov 2019 | 00:05:48 | |
For those who do not know, my day job is as VP of Marketing for FANGORIA (the horror movie magazine and production studio). And, as part of that job, I interviewed Paul Dini (BATMAN:THE ANIMATED SERIES) and Stephen Langford (FAMILY MATTERS), who both scripted one of the episodes of Shudder's CREEPSHOW. But, of course, I had to ask them about EWOKS and DROIDS. Dini was an associate producer on both, as well as writer, and Langford was a writer and collaborator (including, non-chronologically, the final episode of EWOKS: "Malani the Warrior".) They both were great sports about the curveball question and I thought I would clip it out as a special Sunday bonus episode for TB94. Enjoy! From the Cantina reshoots to the Dejarik chess table to the AT-AT stop motion to the ILM Return of the Jedi creature shop, Mr. Tippett was one of the driving forces of, not only the Star Wars world we know and love, but also the visual effects landscape as a whole. It is really an honor to have him on the show. I haven’t stopped smiling since. It was literally a dream come true. Be sure to visit MadGodMovie.com for information on how to watch his latest project and be sure to seek out Mad Dreams and Monsters, the new documentary about him, coming soon. It’s been fifty episodes and I am so grateful to you all for the listens, support and love. This has been an incredible journey with you all and, really, we’re just getting started. If you enjoy the show, please leave a five-star rating and review. It is enormously helpful. | Alan Harris: The Man Behind Bossk, Boba Fett, Han Solo in Carbonite | 25 Sep 2019 | 00:15:28
Thank you to Zachery McGinnis from Galactic Productions for coordinating this interview. | Galactic Innovations: Marcia Lucas, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren, John Knoll and John Dykstra | 05 Jul 2019 | 01:08:24
So, I did something dumb. When The Academy announced a panel featuring Marcia Lucas (!!!!), Ben Burtt (!!!!), John Dykstra, Dennis Muren, John Knoll, Harrison Ellenshaw (TB94 Episode 18), Richard Edlund (TB94 Episode 19) and many more ... I bought a ticket. And then it sold out. The event was in Los Angeles on a Thursday and I, well, live in Dallas. So I booked a flight, flew out to California and ended up having the time of my life. Here's a fun, quick listen about my trip, both my experience and some snippets from the panel. It is probably the closest I'll ever actually get to getting Marcia Lucas on this show. | Julian Glover: General Veers in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, Donovan in THE LAST CRUSADE | 01 May 2019 | 00:13:57
"The shield will be down in moments, you may start your landing." From being next door neighbors with producer Robert Watts to working with Irvin Kershner and Steven Spielberg, we cover a lot of ground in this short (LIVE) episode from Star Wars Celebration Chicago. In addition to his work on Star Wars, we also touch on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Walter Donovan), Harry Potter (Aragog) and Game of Thrones (Grand Maester Pycelle). | Lorne Peterson: Legendary VFX Artist Behind Escape Pods, Tauntauns and the Millenium Falcon | 24 Apr 2019 | 00:42:32

Working on the first six Star Wars films, Lorne goes through his experience building escape pods out of paint cans, manning Guatemalan outpost towers made out of trash cans and sourcing Tauntaun fur (which you have to hear to believe). And I am legitimately giggling the entire time, which is very embarrassing. We barely scratch the surface of the incredible work that Mr. Peterson has done over the past forty years, so definitely check out his book, Sculpting a Galaxy, which is available from Insight Editions: https://insighteditions.com/product/sculpting-a-galaxy/ (There is also a super limited edition version of the book, which has been tempting me for years now, so buy it and make me very jealous.) | Anthony Forrest: "Move Along" Sandtrooper and Luke's Friend Fixer | 27 Feb 2019 | 00:36:57
Anthony Forrest played two different key roles in the original Star Wars. As a Sandtrooper on Mos Eisley, he was the first on-screen recipient of a Jedi mind trick. And, in the legendary Anchorhead deleted scenes, he stood out next to Biggs and Luke, as Fixer, to look to a potential space battle. We talk about a lot, including his passion for music, as well as relationship with the fandom and conventions. | Michael Carter: The Man Who Played Bib Fortuna in RETURN OF THE JEDI | 20 Feb 2019 | 00:14:59
"Die wanna wanga?" Michael Carter portrayed the Major Domo of Jabba the Hutt ... the creepy, great and wonderful Twi'lek: Bib Fortuna. Live from Madness Comics in Plano, TX, we got to talk to him all about working with Richard Marquand on the set of Return of the Jedi. In addition to his work on Star Wars, I couldn't help but ask him about his iconic scene in John Landis' American Werewolf in London (which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ss0nT5DGHw). Seriously, for how short this episode is, we pack in some great, great stuff. Thank you to Zachery McGinnis from Galactic Productions for coordinating this interview. | Craig Miller: Founder of The STAR WARS Fan Club | 13 Feb 2019 | 00:40:13
Craig Miller was the Director of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm from 1977-1980. As you might be able to guess, there was a lot going on in the early Star Wars fandom during that time, from churning rumors in Starlog to creating the Fan Club and Bantha Tracks to crashing Illinois 800 numbers. Mr. Miller has some great stories about what it was like to market this brand new sci fi movie called … Star Wars. Some great panels that Mr. Miller has moderated at previous conventions can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hie7EIO9S44 Our Talking Bay 94 web store is officially live with our first round of merch.
