| Can You Take Caring For Your Body Too Far? | 27 Aug 2024 | 00:39:05 | |
Is there such a thing as going TOO FAR with caring for our body? Though the church culture can be silent about caring for our body, the world seems to make too much of it. How do you know when you’ve taken it too far and then what do you do about it?
Today on the podcast I have an on-air session with Emily who feels like she tends to go TOO FAR when it comes to fitness and exercise, and wants to know how to find the right balance of Soul Care as it relates to nourishing her body. I help her find the source of the “lack of balance” (it’s pretty interesting!) and figure out what to do next today on Talk To Me!

How do you handle rejection?
Worse yet, how do you handle rejection from people you hoped to be able to trust?
How do you recover from feeling unwanted or unneeded? How do you keep it from becoming part of your beliefs and identity?
This week on the podcast I have a powerful on-air session with Alexandra Hoover, and we start putting together the pieces of the puzzle of what caused her to have a vulnerability towards rejection.
I help her identify where this came from, and how it might be impacting other parts of her life and ministry. It’s a powerful and emotional conversation, and I believe it will really challenge and bless you in your personal life as well as in your ministry.

| Breaking Free From Porn | 15 Nov 2022 | 00:32:09 | |
Q: I have been caught in a cycle of using porn on again off again for most of my life. I’m truly wanting to break free of this struggle. What advice to you have for me, to help me break free?
We’re taking all your questions on our new ASK A COUNSELOR series!! We’re doing this series because I wanted to introduce you to the Counselors from the Debra Fileta Counselors Network and get to know them the way I’m getting to know them!
Today’s question comes from Mike from Colorado, who wants to break free from his struggle with pornography.
Porn is everywhere, and the roots of why some people struggle with porn more than others run deep. Because porn use and sexual struggles are a reflection of something deeper — our need for connection.
Our sexual struggles are often a reflection of a deeper need to connect in healthy ways. A deeper need to connect with God, self, and others.
Today, I tag-team this question with Tony Hasaballa (BOOK A SESSION WITH Tony). Tony is a pre-licensed counselor on our team, who is passionate about helping men and women heal from the struggle with both porn and/or sexual addictions. Tony talks about how sexual addictions are really an intimacy disorder, and we talk about what it means to get to the deeper issues that fuel our unhealthy and harmful behaviors. It’s such an important episode.

| Signs You Need to Deal With Your Trauma | 08 Nov 2022 | 00:34:25 | |
Q: I have a history of trauma from my past, but I never realized how much I do today stems from what I’ve been through in the past until I started reading Are You Really OK? What are some sings that I have unprocessed trauma from the past I need to deal with?
We’re taking all your questions on our new ASK A COUNSELOR series!! We’re doing this series because I wanted to introduce you to the Counselors from the Debra Fileta Counselors Network and get to know them the way I’m getting to know them!
Today’s question comes from Ann from Pennsylvania, who wants to know the signs and symptoms that she may have unprocessed trauma in her past that she needs to deal with. In other words, what are some signs you need to DEAL WITH YOUR TRAUMA.
It’s amazing how many people believe that their “personality” or struggles or the way they do things is just who they are — rather than seeing the impacts from the experiences of their past.
What you do in your PRESENT is often a result of what you experienced in your PAST.
Today, I tag-team this question with Sandy Wilda (BOOK A SESSION WITH Sandy). Sandy is a trauma specialist, and today she and I talk through the the impacts of trauma, how it can effect your life in the present, some signs that you have unprocessed trauma, as well as how to actually heal from your past. Sandy is an incredible counselor, and I’m so looking forward to you getting to know her today as we talk about signs you need to deal with your trauma.

| Biggest Mistakes Couples Make In Conflict | 01 Nov 2022 | 00:32:35 | |
Q: What are some of the biggest mistakes couples make in conflict?
We’re taking all your questions on our new ASK A COUNSELOR series!! We’re doing this series because I wanted to introduce you to the Counselors from the Debra Fileta Counselors Network and get to know them the way I’m getting to know them!
Today’s question comes from a woman who wants to know the mistakes we make when it comes to conflict. Conflict in a relationship is inevitable — so how do you deal with it in a healthy way? What are some signs you’re not handling it well? What are some steps to take in the right direction instead?
You learn how to manage conflict by default — meaning, you do what you’ve seen done in the past, usually from your family of origin. But sometimes the way it’s been modeled isn’t the healthy way.
Today, I tag-team this question with Brad Aldrich (BOOK A SESSION WITH Brad). Brad and I talk through a few mistakes we see people make in conflict, and then offer you practical advice on what to do instead!! Even if you’re not in a romantic or marriage relationship, this is information you need to know because conflict comes up in all our relationships. And you have to know how to handle it and recognize the mistakes couples make in conflict.

We’re taking all your questions on our new ASK A COUNSELOR series!! We’re doing this series because I wanted to introduce you to the Counselors from the Debra Fileta Counselors Network and get to know them the way I’m getting to know them!

What if I said something, did something, tried something different? What if things would have worked out? The list of what ifs is never ending. So how do we deal with them? How can we be set free to move forward?
Today, I tag-team this question with Anna Pavlov (BOOK A SESSION WITH Anna). Anna and I get to the root of some of the unhealthy underlying thinking that comes with what ifs, teach you how to recognize it, and then what to do about it as well as what to think INSTEAD.

We’re spending the last few reviewing our TOP 5 MOST DOWNLOADED episodes of the past year. And this one came in at #1. This episode was the most popular episode of the year and it comes from a four-part series we did about getting healthy from the inside out called the Are You Really OK? Book Series! where I tackled the four areas of health including emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical.
In today’s episode we’re talking about the three parts to emotional health, and why sometimes your New Year’s Resolutions end up falling flat by the end of January. Because so much of why we do what we do stems deeper than our behaviors — and goes down to the roots of our emotional and mental health.
This series is going to be so important, and we want everyone to tune in!! If you haven’t yet grabbed your copy of Are You Really OK? Book and started reading through it, there’s no better time to start than now!!! It will help guide you through Emotional Health, as well as all the other areas. | #2 Most Downloaded: Couples Therapy with Justin and Tracy | 20 Sep 2022 | 01:10:17 | |
Emotional health. What is it, and how do you know if you’re emotionally healthy?
We’re spending the next few weeks reviewing our TOP 5 MOST DOWNLOADED episodes of the past year. And this one came in at #2. This episode was the most popular episode from the COUPLES THERAPY series we did in February, on-air counseling with couples from across the country.
Today’s couple, Justin and Tracy, have been married for 11 years and have two children. They find themselves stuck in an unhealthy pattern — she feels like he’s always pulling away, he feels like she’s always putting him down. It got so bad, at one point she was considering divorce. In this powerful conversation, we’re going to unpack the dynamic they’re struggling with in their marriage, get to the roots of why, and find solutions to help them move forward. But more than that, we’re going to help them find hope!
I hope this session inspires and encourages you to do the work in your own life and relationship. Let me know!! Leave a review on your podcast app, and let us know how you’re enjoying this podcast and this series.

| #4 Most Downloaded: Just Not That Into You – 10 Signs | 06 Sep 2022 | 00:30:25 | |
Q: How do you know if someone is as interested in you as you are in them? Or what if you’re in a relationship and you’re just not feeling it?
We’re spending the next few weeks reviewing our TOP 5 MOST DOWNLOADED episodes of the past year. And this one came in at #4:
“You should never have to convince someone that you’re worth loving.”
That’s exactly what I told the caller, Scott, on today’s episode of the show.
After getting burned by a lady he’s been getting to know, he finds himself wondering how on earth is a person supposed to read the opposite sex and find out whether or not someone is interested? Are there signs to be on the lookout for?
Why, yes…yes there are. 10 different signs to be exact. But here’s the key: you have to be willing to recognize them, and then accept them.
And I’m going to talk through all this and more in today’s interesting show!!
If you’ve ever been in a relationship where you wondered whether or not they felt the same way about you as you felt about them (whether dating or even in marriage) — then this episode is for you.
Give this short episode (25 minutes) a quick listen, and then leave your 5-star rating and review on iTunes! It helps to get the word out and challenge others to move toward God’s best for relationships…because you should never have to convince someone that you’re worth investing in (tweet it).

| #5 Most Downloaded: Compatibility – How To Know If You’re A Good Match | 30 Aug 2022 | 00:17:42 | |
Q: How do you know if you’re compatible with someone?
We’re spending the next few weeks reviewing our TOP 5 MOST DOWNLOADED episodes of the past year. And this one came in at #5.
Compatibility is key to a healthy relationship.
Just because you’re a Christian, and just because someone else is a Christian – doesn’t mean you’re going to be a good match when it comes to being in a relationship.
Compatibility is a huge piece to the puzzle of relationships, and it’s one that often get’s ignored or overshadowed in the conversation of what makes a healthy relationships.
When it comes to understanding compatibility in a relationship, there are certain things that have to “fit together” well, just like putting a puzzle together. This isn’t about finding an exact replica of yourself, it’s about finding someone who is going to be a good match for your life.
In order to find a good match, you’ve got to know your shape, and your colors.
Compatibility Looks Like…
There are certain big picture topics where it’s important to make sure you have compatibility when you’re in a relationship.
Today on the podcast, we’re talking through those topics! You can also dig deeper into accountability in my book, Love In Every Season: Understanding the Four Stages of Every Healthy Relationship!

| Attachment Styles: With Krispin Mayfield | 05 Jul 2022 | 01:00:13 | |
Welcome back to the Love & Relationship Podcast, a hotline style show where we tackle all your questions about love, relationships, and mental and emotional health — with short, bite-sized, practical answers.
Today on the podcast we’re talking all about attachment styles — how they impact your relationship with others, as well as your relationship with God. I’m joined by Licensed Counselor and author Krispin Mayfield who just wrote a book all about Attachment.
The way you handle your emotions, interact with others, and your ability to connect all comes down to something called your attachment style, that was shaped in early childhood. It’s a really important concept to understand if you’re hoping to pursue healthy relationships.
I think this episode is going to open your eyes to how you view your relationships with others, as well as your relationship to God.
So tune in to today’s episode and let me know on Instagram what you thought of the conversation!

| Afraid to Feel: On-Air Counseling with Mike Todd | 28 Jun 2022 | 00:50:01 | |
Over the next few weeks I’ll be having raw, open, and honest conversations with some of the top Christian leaders and teachers, asking them: Are YOU really ok? This series of on-air counseling sessions with some of the most influential teachers and leaders in the Church, is leading up to the one-year anniversary of my book, Are You Really OK?, challenging each and every one of us to get real about how we’re really doing mentally and emotionally.
It takes courageous people to openly and publicly talk about their journey with mental and emotional health, but these are the exact conversations that begin taking down the stigma, paving the way for us to truly get real about how we’re doing as Christians.
Today’s session is Pastor Mike Todd. Pastor Mike is the lead pastor of Transformation Church. Today he opens up about one of the darkest seasons in his life, battling depression and anger after his son was diagnosed with autism. Under the weight of the stress and pain, he felt like something inside of him broke. And when it did, out came a flood of feelings that had been buried under the surface for many, many years.
He talks about how he had spent so many years of his life “capping” his feelings– seeing them as obstacles rather than assets. We trace this belief back to his childhood, and spend some time processing his past experiences that led him to years of numbing his emotions. And then we talk about his road to healing.
This conversation is truly unique and eye opening. If you have ever struggled with feeling like you “don’t know what you feel” or “don’t have strong feelings” — you need to tune into this conversation with pastor Mike Todd today.
Be sure to listen to the end where I give a summary of our talk, as well as ways you can apply it to your own journey of getting healthy from the inside out and asking — Are YOU really OK?
So sit back, and take in this vulnerable conversation with Anthony on the Are You Really OK? Podcast Series a part of the Love + Relationships Podcast with Debra Fileta.
Now it’s your turn. It’s time for YOU to get real about how you’re doing. Grab a copy of Are You Really OK? for yourself, and let’s do the work of getting healthy from the inside out.

Today’s session is Toni Collier. Toni and her husband Sam are pastors of a thriving church in Atlanta, Georgia. Today Toni opens up about her history of codependent relationships, finding herself in a toxic relationship at a very young age. She talks about getting to the root of her need to be a “caregiver” that started in the trauma of her childhood, being the primary caregiver for her ailing mother — although she wasn’t really aware of all of these roots until until age 24 when it all began to manifest in her life.
She carried the pain of her past for many years, which led her into alcohol abuse, and toxic behavior, and codependent relationships — until she stopped to face the pain and abuse from her past.
This conversation with Toni is SO SO powerful and healing, for any of you who have the roots of a “caregiver” and are feeling burnout and stuck in a cycle of codependent relationships– this conversation is one you must listen to.
Be sure to listen to the end where I give a summary of our talk, as well as ways you can apply it to your own journey of getting healthy from the inside out and asking — Are YOU really OK?

Today’s session is with Jeremy Camp. Jeremy is an incredibly talented singer/songwriter. You’ve probably heard his songs on the radio, or even tuned into the movie he released two years ago called “I Still Believe” chronicling the heart wrenching journey of losing his first wife to cancer.
But today, Jeremy opens up to talk about the crippling anxiety he faced while on a ministry trip. His anxiety in the present was actually rooted in past experiences, and we process that today on-air. His story is powerful and painful, yet filled with hope and healing.
Be sure to listen to the end where I give a summary of our talk, as well as ways you can apply it to your own journey of getting healthy from the inside out and asking — Are YOU really OK?
So sit back, and take in this vulnerable conversation with Jeremy Camp on the Are You Really OK? Podcast Series a part of the Love + Relationships Podcast with Debra Fileta.
Now it’s your turn. It’s time for YOU to get real about how you’re doing. Grab a copy of Are You Really OK? for yourself, and let’s do the work of getting healthy from the inside out.

Today’s session with Natalie Grant is SO hopeful. A top Christian female vocalist, she has been through her own journey with anxiety and panic in the most unexpected places. She hit her low point in her depression, where she literally couldn’t get up to shower or care for herself and needed the people in her life to carry her through. Her story will remind you that you are not alone, that you don’t have to be okay, and that there is room for Jesus, therapy AND medication in your life. All of the above.

We’re opening this series by re-airing episodes from Season 1, beginning with one of my favorite leaders….Pastor JP Pokluda. One thing that really sticks out to me about JP is his blunt and point-blank approach to life. For him, nothing is off limits to talk about. And nothing to dark for Jesus to shine his light. And this conversation is no different.
I know this on-air session with him will challenge you. Be sure to listen to the end where I give a summary of our talk, as well as ways you can apply it to your own journey of getting healthy from the inside out and asking — Are YOU really OK?

| Culture Clash: Couples Therapy with Carlos and Ashley | 08 Mar 2022 | 01:07:18 | |
This week we’re wrapping up a series we started in February called Couples Therapy! I’ve invited four courageous couples to join me on the podcast for on-air counseling sessions. We’re going behind the curtain of marriage, and giving you a sneak peek of all the things married couples are actually going through behind the scenes.
Because marriage takes work, and it’s important to understand that — but it’s also important to have the tools you need to do that work, and the hope you need to see that it’s always worth it in the end.
Today’s couple is Carlos and Ashley. After a lighting fast dating and engagement, they’re finding themselves stuck in the area of expectations and norms in marriage. They come from very different cultural backgrounds, and now their differences are coming to a head.
Carlos comes to marriage with certain expectations of gender roles in marriage, and Ashley comes from the exact opposite perspective. Will they be able to get on the same page, even with their different views? How does their past, childhood, and culture impact what they think and believe about marriage? How do you sort through what’s right and what’s wrong? What does it look like to create a NEW culture in their marriage, rather than try to replicate the old?
Today we unpack all of that!!!
If you’ve ever struggled with difference in your expectations or cultural norms, you’ll want to tune into this couple’s therapy session.
And friends — this series has been such a huge hit! My podcast was in the top 100 of ALL religion and spirituality podcasts last week, so thank you for listening, sharing, and leaving your review because it helps get the word out about this important series. Are you good at sharing your needs with others? Most people aren’t.
Today on the podcast, Erin from Texas called in to talk to me about the fact that she has a really hard time opening up with others and being vulnerable about what she really needs and how she feels.
She’s seen patterns in her life of putting others first and staying silent about her own needs…until it’s become problematic.
We unpack some of the relationships where she struggles the most, and then I ask her some questions to help her get to the root of WHY — so she can begin making changes! If you have a hard time sharing your needs, listening to this conversation will get you processing your own story and give you some steps you can take to begin making changes in this really important area of your life!!

| Triggers Are Everywhere: Couples Therapy with Ben and Kelsey (Part 3) | 01 Mar 2022 | 00:58:55 | |
We’re in the middle a series through the month of February called Couples Therapy! I’ve invited four courageous couples to join me on the podcast for an on-air counseling session.
Today’s couple, Ben and Kelsey, have been married for almost 9 years. They’re finding themselves stuck in the area of sexual intimacy, but could there be more going on underneath the surface? In our counseling sessions, Kelsey has revealed that she has a past history of abuse from childhood. She also shared that she’s had two emotional affairs that have really set them back in their marriage.
Today we unpack the concept of triggers — in the fact that Ben identifies both of them to be “trigger-avoidant” people. We talk through a new way to look at triggers, that not only helped them but I believe it will challenge you as well.
I know many of you will relate to this couple, and the fact that sometimes what’s going on in TODAY is really a reflection of hurts that happened in the PAST that haven’t been fully dealt with. We have to get to the roots if we want true freedom. So tune into this final part of my sessions with Ben and Kelsey.
And friends — this series has been such a huge hit so far.
