| Casemiro fallout as Liverpool cut through Ten Hag's United again | 02 Sep 2024 | 01:04:07 | |
Arne Slot's Liverpool came to Old Trafford and won in second gear in his third game in charge; a damning indictment of Manchester United in the Premier League under Erik Ten Hag.
It all feels horribly familiar as we ask many of the same questions on the first "Monday inquest" of a new season. Is there a case for giving the manager and the squad any slack at the end of a busy transfer window, one that had looked very productive.
Irish listeners will take some cheer from the news that our long-promised ticket update for the live show in Dublin has finally arrived, and we have also added an extra date in Belfast!

| Transfer window rated... Sterling?! Fond memories fuel Liverpool fever | 28 Aug 2024 | 00:56:56 | |
The summer transfer window is coming to a close and, albeit with several loose ends yet to be tied up, it looks like Manchester United have done what many fans have long hoped for and moved on several fringe players.
One of those loose ends is the uncertain future of Jadon Sancho. With rumoured interest from Chelsea seemingly reliant on a player swap, would Raheem Sterling actually make sense, or might there be other players who would serve the squad better.
And, with Liverpool making the short hop to Old Trafford this weekend, we use your memories of this fixture to get the fire burning. Hopefully, Erik Ten Hag can get one over on his compatriot, the more fashionable (?) Arne Slot.

| Ten Hag survives, but can he thrive at United? | 12 Jun 2024 | 00:50:18 | |
It's the least surprising emergency podcast in history: Erik Ten Hag will continue as the manager of Manchester United into the 2024/25 season. Nevertheless, the podcasters have assembled at short notice; breaking away from holidays, tours, Euro preparations, and a haircut, to get into some of the questions... and there are many.
How was the decision reached, and why did it take so long? How much did the FA Cup final affect the thinking? Is everyone fully on board? How close did any other candidate get to taking over? And, most importantly, what does the future hold, both for the man himself and his team?

| Champions League Chasing: De Gea Clanger Dents Hopes | 08 May 2023 | 00:48:27 | |
Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Laurie Whitwell have got the hump with Manchester United's away form. David De Gea's rick at the London Stadium made the headlines but the performance was alarmingly familiar.
What we'd give for a run of away form like the one seen under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; we wonder if he is remembered unfairly on the tenth anniversary of Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. Meanwhile, MUWFC are making great strides towards a successful season, and are now just a point from securing their Champions League place.

| Nightmare Away Form Continues at Brighton | 05 May 2023 | 00:50:22 | |
Brighton's last-gasp penalty means Manchester United will almost certainly finish the Premier League season with just one point from all their away games at top-half clubs; Ian Irving carries out the post-mortem with Andy Mitten and Carl Anka.
On the 30th anniversary of the club's first ever Premier League title, we remember Steve Bruce's party, Sir Alex Ferguson's team-talk, and legendary players wearing questionable suits.
The next game is away, but it's at relegation-threatened West Ham, managed by David Moyes. Let's hope for a good Manchester United, and not a "Dundee Utd".

| Bruno & Turner Down Villans & Old Trafford Protests | 01 May 2023 | 00:49:56 | |
Ian Irving is joined by Laurie Whitwell and Dan Sheldon post-match at Old Trafford, before a later date with Laurie, again, and Andy Mitten.
On the agenda: two crucial league wins against Aston Villa as Manchester United's men and women both took another step towards next season's Champions League.
The game at Old Trafford also made the news with another anti-Glazer protest, this time headed up by fan group "The 1958".

| A Point at Spurs, OK? & Mary Earps Exclusive | 28 Apr 2023 | 00:51:20 | |
Ian Irving holds court as Andy Mitten and Laurie Whitwell negotiate the post-match obstacles of Tottenham with Carl Anka chuckling on from Manchester. The big question is whether Thursday night's draw at Spurs is an acceptable result given Manchester United's away record and the opposition's recent travails. We also take a quick look ahead to the weekend's match against Aston Villa which will surely provide a tough test for a tired looking group of players.
Mary Earps will be in action against Aston Villa on Friday night and she has been looking ahead to a thrilling season finale for the women's team with Carl and Charlotte Harpur. With two trophies and Champions League qualification on the line, will she be dancing on a press-conference table next month?

| Lindelof Sets Up All-Manchester FA Cup Final | 24 Apr 2023 | 00:36:16 | |
Logistics very nearly got the better of us but despite a dash to Euston after the penalties we do have a Wembley podcast for you with instant reaction to the win over Brighton from Ian Irving, Carl Anka, Andy Mitten (just about), and Laurie Whitwell.
It'd be fair to say this one wasn't a classic, but Victor Lindelof's winning penalty did set up the first ever all-Manchester FA Cup final, and a possible chance to deny City the treble...

| Europa League Horror Show: United Crash Out in Seville | 21 Apr 2023 | 00:43:11 | |
Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Laurie Whitwell report on a disastrous night for Manchester United after they were dumped out of the UEFA Europa League in Seville.
The men will have to pick themselved up quickly to beat Brighton in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final; a feat already achieved by the women's team, who went on to beat Arsenal in the WSL on Wednesday night. Chelsea may yet pip them to the title, but they should now qualify for next season's Champions League.

It's a busy, busy Monday as Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Laurie Whitwell review a good win for the men at Forest, a ground-breaking victory for the women against Brighton, and update you all on takeover business before previewing the Europa League quarter-final second leg in Sevilla.

| Two Own Goals as MUFC Squander Sevilla Lead | 14 Apr 2023 | 00:48:26 | |
Ian Irving hosts a slightly shell-shocked Europa League debrief with Carl Anka, Laurie Whitwell, and Andy Mitten.
Manchester United were 2-0 up after twenty minutes against relegation-threatened Sevilla, with the Spanish side naming some first-choice players on the bench. It was a golden opportunity to finish off the tie.
That the game finished level was largely down to an uncomfortably familiar frailty, the inability to maintain control, but it could also have been worse had de Gea not (again) made some crucial saves.

We're four-handed all week with Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, Laurie Whitwell, and Carl Anka meeting online this Monday before getting together at Old Trafford on Thursday.
There's an Everton debrief and a news round-up before we preview the reason for that in-person reunion; a Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla. But, will the visitors play like the most successful team in Europa League history or La Liga relegation contenders?

| Wout Out, But Rashford Seals a Welcome Win | 06 Apr 2023 | 00:49:11 | |
Ian Irving, Laurie Whitwell, and Andy Mitten were relieved to see Manchester United win in the Premier League for the first time since February; who else but Marcus Rashford provided the winning goal after a neat header from the more-advanced Marcel Sabitzer.
Ten Hag's side will host Everton this Saturday lunchtime and while, league position says it will be a difficult place for them to get a result, they do have a surprisingly good record at Old Trafford in recent years.

It's a full house as Carl Anka, Andy Mitten, and Laurie Whitwell join Ian Irving for our second week of the international break.
Roughly 28,000 were at Old Trafford to see Manchester United WFC return to the top of the Women's Super League, and the title race is hotting up nicely!
As always, Manchester United's men had a host of players away on international duty, so we took some more of your questions, focussing on squad depth and fringe players.

And, with the international break this week, we asked for your questions about the club (and the podcast). There were so many good ones we'll be rolling it over to Monday, but we made a good start with answers on gaiju attack response, Indonesian rice wine, and Ljubljana to name a few!

| Man Utd Take Full Advantage as Fulham Blow a Gasket | 20 Mar 2023 | 00:48:08 | |
A 3-1 home win in the FA Cup against Fulham sounds like comfortable Sunday afternoon viewing for Manchester United fans. You probably already know that wasn't the case, but Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Laurie Whitwell are here to fill you in on the details.
We consider the potential for two domestic semi-finals against Brighton, one of which could lead to a Manchester derby at Wembley, and we react to an Arsenal-less Europa League quarter final draw. More chips, anyone?

| Southampton Stalemate: A Draw, Not a Disaster | 13 Mar 2023 | 00:49:11 | |
Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Carl Anka review a disappointing weekend for both the men's team, who saw Casemiro sent off in a goalless draw with Southampton, and the women who lost to WSL title rivals Chelsea.
Erik Ten Hag's men now have a Europa League second leg to prepare for. Real Betis will probably provide a sterner test in Seville, but with a three goal lead the next order of business should be the quarter final draw.
We also add our tributes to those of the whole club and fanbase, to Ian Stirling, a legendary fan advocate and champion of many supporters' issues including safe standing and representation.

Ian Irving, Carl Anka, and Andy Mitten react to a hugely improved mood as Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United recover from Anfield embarrassment with a convincing Europa League first leg win over Real Betis.
Goals (in ascending order of relieved player) came from Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes, and Wout Weghorst, and the team will take momentum into the weekend's game against Southampton and the return leg in Seville.

| Another Cup Win, Another Home Draw, Another Massive Game at Liverpool | 02 Mar 2023 | 00:45:51 | |
Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Carl Anka are still coming down from the high of winning at Wembley, but we've already got another cup win to celebrate.
Alejandro Garnacho starred as Manchester United overcame a slow start to kick West Ham out of the FA Cup and, of course, they'll play at home in the next round. First, though, a trip to Anfield; why are Manchester United and Liverpool never good at the same time?

| Measure of Ten Hag’s 2nd season comes down to FA Cup Final | 20 May 2024 | 00:56:49 | |
So, here it is, the season finale. Unfortunately, the Premier League has not ended as we would have liked, and Erik Ten Hag's men will need to win the FA Cup final if they want to play in Europe next season.
Under normal circumstances, that would be a good distance short of what is expected from a Manchester United manager and he would be seeking employment elsewhere. Of course, these are not normal circumstances.
So, the full podcast team get into the nitty gritty of United's least fruitful league campaign since 1990 and try to map a route to cup victory against (ASTERISK) the best club team in recent history.
NB we do take the occasional detour!

Carl Anka takes the helm with Andy Mitten and Laurie Whitwell joining him from the third tier of Camp Nou to digest a terrific first leg of the Europa League play-off tie between Manchester United and Barcelona.
Marcus Rashford starred again, flipping the game on its head with a great goal and possible an even better assist, and we think Erik Ten Hag will be the happier manager despite taking exception to some refereeing decisions.

| Leeds Win Caps Great Weekend: Barcelona Next! | 13 Feb 2023 | 00:57:17 | |
Laurie Whitwell (and his cat, Ron) makes a podcast comeback with Ian Irving and Andy Mitten (and his dog).
Manchester United beat Leeds at the second time of asking with another goal from Marcus Rashford and one from the recently-criticised Alejandro Garnacho. It wasn't vintage football but it's a huge result, especially with so many rivals dropping points this weekend.
As we speak the team, and the fans, are Barcelona-bound for the the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Play-off. It's not the competition you'd expect, or want, to see that fixture in but it's a much higher quality contest than either side might have expected at the start of the season. We've got the juice on the ins and outs of that game, and the host city.

| Sancho Goal Drowns Out Disappointment of Leeds Draw | 09 Feb 2023 | 00:48:13 | |
Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Carl Anka assemble under the eaves at Old Trafford with The Athletic's new boy Mark Critchley.
It was a disappointing result, certainly, as visitors Leeds United caught Ten Hag's men cold, not once but twice! However, there was a warm glow in the air (and on Andy's face) after Marcus Rashford and the returning Jadon Sancho scored to salvage a draw.
On that evidence, the trip to Elland Road will prove a tough test, but we're hoping one or two of the seven first team players who missed tonight's game will be available.

Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, and Carl Anka are in good spirits (in one case, quite literally) and we've added a musical twist to the show as we celebrate taking control of the EFL Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

| Bruno returns to revive European hopes | 16 May 2024 | 00:49:59 | |
Manchester United's men beat European rivals Newcastle in their last home game of the season to rekindle hope of European qualification via the Premier League (for a few days at least). After Chelsea won at Brighton, though, the only route to the Europa League is by winning the FA Cup.
Manager Erik Ten Hag delivered a rousing speech to the crowd after the game, thanked the fans, and reaffirmed ALL his players' commitment to the cause.
Tributes were paid to this season's successful Academy teams as well, and the Women's FA Cup was added to the honours board, although the mood is mixed amid cost-cutting measures by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's new backroom team.

| Deflating Draw at Palace: Casemiro Won't Face Arsenal | 19 Jan 2023 | 00:55:11 | |
Ian Irving, Andy Mitten, Carl Anka, and Laurie Whitwell were on cloud nine after the Manchester derby but it's down to Earth with a bump as United cost themselves two Premier League points with sloppiness at Selhurst Park.
Casemiro has become a vital presence in midfield, so much so that Erik Ten Hag chose to start with him on Wednesday night, and it proved costly. A yellow card means he will miss the trip to the Emirates to face league leaders Arsenal; perhaps we could do with another brilliant Brazilian!
Also in focus; Weghorst's adequate debut, Aaron Wan-Bissaka's remarkable turnaround in form, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe announcing his intention to make a bid for the club.

The podcast team were all in attendance, and a little giddy, as Manchester United fought back from a goal down to claim victory over City and move to within a point of Guardiola's men in the Premier League table.
After a first half masterclass from Erik Ten Hag, with some bold team selections allied to a canny strategy, Jack Grealish gave City the lead. But, United showed resilience and guts to equalise through Fernandes and Marcus Rashford took his Old Trafford scoring run into the record books to seal a famous win.

Carl Anka was at Old Trafford for the "standard home win" against Everton in the FA Cup third round on Friday night and he joins Ian Irving and Andy Mitten to reflect on another superb showing from Marcus Rashford, de Gea's wobbles, and encouragement for Antony.
Next up, Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-final; they're managed by Dean Holden, a huge United fan, and one Andy knows very well. And, of course, we had to talk about the surprising news that MUFC are in talks with Burnley (and maybe Besiktas as well) regarding a loan move for Dutch striker Wout Weghorst.

| Rashford Arrives Late with Wolves Winner | 01 Jan 2023 | 00:40:19 | |
A podcast full house as we reflect on Marcus Rashford's eventful New Year's Eve. Having arrived late to a team meeting, he was dropped to the bench, but made a match-winning contribution when called on at half-time.
The handling of that incident capped a flawless 2022 for Erik Ten Hag and we're optimistic he will bring success in 2023 as well... but has he seen Ariana Grande on a milk-float?

| Beckham on 99, Toone & Co storm Wembley, while storm descends on Old Trafford | 12 May 2024 | 00:52:15 | |
A podcast very much in three parts for you on a stormy Sunday night in May with Andy and Ian braving the Manchester rain and Carl looking nervously out of his twentieth floor window...
Arsenal did what was expected of them at Old Trafford, winning for just the second time in seventeen attempts, despite a slightly brighter performance from Ten Hag's men. Meanwhile, at Wembley, Ella Toone inspired Manchester United's women to a performance that absolutely validated their favouritism in the FA Cup final.
...and something a little different, and very exciting, for you to finish the show. None other than David Beckham speaking to Andy Mitten on the red carpet at the Manchester premiere of new film 99, a documentary about that year's famous treble-winning team.

| Glazers Open to United Sale & Ronaldo Gone! | 23 Nov 2022 | 00:32:50 | |
What a day! Just when you thought things might be a bit quieter with the World Cup fully underway in Qatar we get, not one United bombshell, but two huge stories.
First, news of Ronaldo's immediate release after the club and player reached a mutually exclusive agreement. Ordinarily, that would be the story of the month, but just a couple of hours later it became apparent that the Glazer family have instructed banks to seek out new investment avenues. Could that mean a sale? It certainly looks like it.

| Bombshell Ronaldo Interview Steals Garnacho's Thunder | 14 Nov 2022 | 00:46:06 | |
News broke late on Sunday that Cristiano Ronaldo has made accusations against senior figures at Manchester United in a dramatically timed interview with tabloid journalist Piers Morgan. It will dominate the headlines, no doubt about that, but many fans of the club may be suspicious of his 'revelations'.
The interview somewhat overshadowed Alejandro Garnacho's late winner at Fulham in United's last game before the mid-season World Cup break. We've been hyping up the young Argentinian's performances and he's looking more and more like a happy bonus for manager Erik Ten Hag.
