In this heartfelt conversation, Roxanne opens up about the systemic gaps in India’s veterinary education, how training for large animal care is almost nonexistent, and the urgent need for policy and infrastructure reform in the animal welfare space. Asha's story is not just about animal rescue — it’s about compassion, resilience, and creating hope for the voiceless. What started as a personal mission after witnessing the heartbreaking plight of stray animals, soon turned into a full-fledged animal welfare movement through Shashwat Foundation.
But the journey wasn’t easy.
When asked what inspired her journey into animal welfare, Asha shared a deeply moving story of a wounded dog left abandoned on the roadside. That moment shook her. While most people walked past the dog, Asha stopped, carried it to a vet, and stayed by its side. That day, she knew — she had to become the voice for the voiceless.
What followed was a lifelong mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray animals who had no one else to turn to. Over the years, Shashwat Foundation has: ✅ Rescued and treated hundreds of injured and abandoned animals. ✅ Facilitated adoptions, ensuring strays find loving forever homes. ✅ Promoted compassion and community involvement through awareness programs.
