Never Underestimate the Magic of Coalition | State of Politics in India
Season 1 Β· Episode 22
Monday, April 7, 2025 β’ Duration 19:47
BJP has to deal with the whims and fancies of Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar for the next five years. "Ohh, that's gonna slow economic reforms!", exclaimed many people. Some expressed through writings, comments and interviews while some crashed the stock market. Well, it seems they do not understand how the country - its politics, bureaucracy, politicians and economy - works.
This video is a reminder to everyone that we have seen better reforms and economic growth under coalition governments than a majority. So, no, reforms are not going anywhere. Yes, the pace might slow down a bit and that's the function of democracy, right? I would say, a healthy function.
Also, the increased role of coalition and opposition is necessary for the country like India, where institutions are less developed. I believe there will be slew of reforms under this government. I would add another layer to it. I believe that this government can (if it wants to) bring some of the toughest economic reforms like land and labour if it keeps its eyes, ears and arms open. Let us wait and watch.

Pushpa wants to rule. But he wants the syndicate members around the Seshachalam Hills to become rich too.
So, what's a syndicate? Richer - what do you mean by that? And what are these hills? What the hell are you talking about? Are you feeling like that?
Well, first things first - spoiler alerts (lots!).
You probably have to watch the movie (or a few minutes which I mentioned on Prime Video) to understand the context - although I have explained it quite well at the beginning.
The movie revolves around the red sandalwood's illegal trade and how Pushpa moves up the ranks in the smuggling group. But the economist in me found out the hidden forms of competition and markets in it and how it technically fits the storyline as well. However, although the movie buff in me wants to know what happens in the second part, the economist is worried about a couple of technical concepts. What is this all about? You have to watch the entire video to understand why monopolies are bad and competition is good and how Pushpa is, therefore, the free market advocate.
This is the second such episode on movies. ICYMI, watch the similar video on Pathan here - β’ Economics Lessons from Pathaan | Mark...

Best Statistical Websites | Review | MOSPI Needs Revamp | Web Designing
Season 1 Β· Episode 8
Friday, April 4, 2025 β’ Duration 24:45
π Exploring Statistical Websites: Which One's The Best -- It's not India's π
I dive into the world of statistical websites: comparing their efficiency in providing correct and user-friendly data.
I evaluated different official websites of 11 countries based on four crucial criteria -
π 1. Google Search Ranking:
How easily each website surfaces in a Google search. A higher ranking ensures that users can quickly access the information they need.
β° 2. Time to Get the Data:
We analyze and compare the speed at which each website provides the latest GDP data.
π 3. Availability of Excel Files and Visualization:
A comprehensive statistical website should not only provide raw data but also offer downloadable files for further analysis. This apart, they should also give attractive visualisation options for making their websites user-friendly.
π₯οΈ 4. UI/UX of the Website:
In this segment, we critique the UI/UX design of each website, emphasizing the importance of a seamless experience.
π Why User-Friendly Websites Matter for India:
With a focus on data transparency and accountability, I discuss how accessible platforms empower the general public to navigate information effortlessly.
Join me on this data-driven journey as we evaluate and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of different statistical websites.
Empower yourself with the knowledge needed to make sense of the complex world of economic indicators.

Brexit & UK Economy: The Past & Present | Brexit Chronicles
Season 1 Β· Episode 6
Thursday, April 3, 2025 β’ Duration 17:33
The SRK-starrer movie, Dunki is about migration. It has become a central point in the United Kingdom currently.
Reason?
Because the UK has opened up its labour market to foreigners.
But why did it open up if Brexit's main agenda was to cut it down?
Yes, you are right. But the economy is going through many problems and the labour shortage is one of them.
Ok. So what sort of problems? And Why?
All these questions are answered in this video. This is an economic, social and political roller coaster ride. So, brace yourself and join me in unravelling the journey of the UK.
By the way, the romance of UK and EU is pretty much like Bollywood movie DDLJ.
