191 - MEET ME IN THE BATHROOM w Daniel Gill
Episode 191
mercredi 1 février 2023 • Duration 01:03:15
MEET ME IN THE BATHROOM is a 2022 doc based on the book of the same name by Lizzy Goodman. Directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern, this look at '00s nostalgia focuses on a cluster of rock bands coming out of New York and Brooklyn at the beginning of the George W. Bush era. These bands that went on to define this scene were The Moldy Peaches, The Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, and TV On the Radio - or so this film would have us believe.
It's inarguable that this cluster of musicians made a lasting impact on music culture and are among the most successful acts still touring. The doc digs in, but is there much dirt to unveil?
Our guest is returning indie rock veteran, publicist Daniel Gill.
MMITB is now available to watch on Showtime

Fantastic Fungi is a consciousness-shifting film about the mycelium network that takes us on an immersive journey through time and scale into the magical earth beneath our feet, an underground network that can heal and save our planet. Through the eyes of renowned scientists and mycologists like Paul Stamets, best-selling authors like Michael Pollan, Eugenia Bone, Andrew Weil and others, we become aware of the beauty, intelligence and solutions that fungi kingdom offers in response to some of our most pressing medical, therapeutic, and environmental challenges.

99 - EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP w Eric Steuer
Episode 99
lundi 15 octobre 2018 • Duration 01:09:28
George spoke with Eric Steuer about one of his favorite docs, EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP (2010)
The only film credited to Banksy, Exit Through The Gift Shop tells the story of Thierry Guetta, a self-taught street artist/documentarian who ends up becoming the subject of the film. It has to be seen to be believed, and even then there’s a lot that is unbelievable, as befits a prankster like Banksy. Is Thierry aka Mr. Brainwash real or a long con? We get into the theories and the comedy of the art world.
Eric Steuer works with artists, media companies, technology developers, and cultural institutions on the use of Creative Commons licenses and CC-licensed content. Before joining CC, Eric was an editor for Wired magazine, where he is currently a correspondent, covering the intersection of technology and popular culture. As a musician he’s released a bunch of recordings and remixes, the most recent being the Dos Feeliz “Most Realest” EP(Plug Research) and Not The 1s “Your Man Is Garbage” single.

98 - FAHRENHEIT 11/9 w Francesca Fiorentini
Episode 98
lundi 1 octobre 2018 • Duration 01:24:06
We discuss Michael Moore’s latest documentary Fahrenheit 11/9 with journalist, activist, and comedian Francesca Fiorentini. Francesca has been at SF Sketchfest and the Comedy Comedy Festival, and appears at clubs throughout California. She was the host and producer of Newsbroke, the political comedy web series for AJ+, so we’re stoked to talk about the looming influence of Michael Moore and the intersection of comedy and reporting.
While the trailer for Fahrenheit 11/9 looks like an epic Donald Trump takedown, he's really only in it about a quarter of the film. Moore also takes on the media, the Electoral College, and the ongoing water crisis in his hometown of Flint, Mich. There are bright spots along the way like interviews with upcoming candidates in the midterms like Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, and a generational shift in the Parkland activists. It's in theaters now.

Episode 96
lundi 3 septembre 2018 • Duration 34:31
This episode of Sup Doc we talk about the documentary The United States of Detroit. We're offering our listeners an exclusive peek at this film that has only been screening at festivals; email us at supdocpodcast AT gmail with the subject line "Detroit" and we'll send you a link. Watching the film will help you follow this conversation, or you may want to see the film after hearing this episode.
This panel was recorded live in April 2018 at the New Parkway Theater in Oakland. The film focuses on a few Detroiters, like Pastor Barry, that are making positive street level impacts in a city famous for its negative headlines.
Even with it’s heavy subject matter we had a fun, funny and informative panel with the director Tylor Norwood and Oakland comedian Karinda Dobbins. We also end with a Q&A session from the audience.
United States of Detroit will be screening in Washington, DC throughout Sept at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, check their website for details.
