"Jesus Be Enough for Me" in Life After Loss with Clarissa Moll03 Jun 202500:27:51

We would never dream of waking up one morning and just going to run a marathon. Yet, we often do that with Christian life. Then we hit that wall at the 18th mile and want to drop out.

A phase of my own life that nearly took my faith out at the knees was when we lost our baby to miscarriage. Death is something that doesn’t neatly fit into our boxes and leaves us asking a lot of questions about our faith. But the Christian faith in resurrection holds a path of hope through the valley of the shadow of death.

What has led you to write about death and loss in families?

Your husband died while your family was exploring in a national park, have you guys always loved the outdoor world? Do you still love it or is that something you left behind?

What did God show you about Himself during grief? What hope did you hold on to?

How did you help your kids come to grips with what happened?

How is it you’ve become so compassionate in your loss to help coach others in grief?

Living Life With the End in Mind with Jen Wilkin27 May 202500:30:16

As Christians, we want to be formed by wisdom. Biblically, we know that wisdom comes with age, but we live in a culture obsessed with youth rather than one formed by gospel truth. I’m of the age that I have friends turning both 30 and 40, and for so many women, those milestones are greeted with grief.

Creams and fillers to disguise our age are in our social media feeds constantly. When you open the comment sections on so many things, the term “Okay, Boomer” has revealed how far we’ve moved culturally from respect of elders to derision of them.

Most of us know Jen from her Bible studies, but recently she wrote an article for Christianity Today "At My Mother’s Deathbed, I Discovered the Symmetry of a Long Life" about what it was like caring for her mother as she aged and eventually passed. I would love for us to take a look together at what a “Legacy of Faith” looks like when caring for elderly parents.

What was it like moving into the stage of life caring for your parents?

You’ve talked about the arc of life and the way it reflects Biblical literature. Can you tell us about that?

How has watching your parents and older saints helped give you a path to exit a current season with grace and submission to the passing of time?

Being in midlife, you said you noticed that you repeat so many of the same life experiences, but level up the quality in how you handle them… Can you tell us about that?

How have you noticed the gaining of wisdom and shift in the internal life as we age?

What did you learn about cherishing all of your days in this process?

What does it look like to find value in older women, and not just to see them as having equal value, but rather increasing value?

How to Lead Little Ones to Jesus + Working Out with Abbey Wedgeworth25 Mar 202500:22:52

We are back this week to keep talking about what itlooks like to live a Legacy of Faith. Last week we talked about what it looks like when kids love Jesus really young. If you’re like me maybe you’ve struggled with not having a “fancy” testimony. Abbey and I talked about the benefit of exposing little ones to faith from a young age and if you’re an adult in the life of a kid what a gift that is to give them.

This week we are going to talk about how practically we point kids to faith! If you want to apply what you learn today for this series I’m creating a download with a verse to meditate, a passage to study, and questions to dig in deeper. You can find a link to that in the show notes.

MINI: Is God With Me When I'm Suffering Consequences? Ps 62:518 Jan 202400:03:48

Many of us endure pain that is the consequence of our actions. We repent and find forgiveness, but that doesn’t always mean our circumstances change. What we can know from this verse is that God is with us even in that kind of pain. He is a reliable place to put our hope.

Advent Mini: Moving Into the New Year with Worship! Psalm 95:628 Dec 202300:04:19

The past 5 weeks have been a pause to remember what Christ has done, and an invitation to carry that knowledge into the new year with us. To worship is a sacrifice and demands discipline. But when we live with what God has done for us in view it transforms the way we live. When we live a life transformed by his love it gives us and those around us into what God’s coming kingdom will look like.

When To Introduce Kids to Jesus? with Abbey Wedgeworth18 Mar 202500:27:18

Today we are kicking off our series by talking about life in the early years. Jesus takes discipleship of and empathy with little ones VERY seriously. To successfully have gospel empathy with little ones, and how to effectively disciple them we have to be intentional. So let’s dig in!

Welcome to Sunshine in My Nest, Abbey. Tell us about yourself and your stage of life, but more importantly what kind of kid you were.

What did God use to bring you to faith?

Have you always liked kids?

Did you always know your kids were capable of faith?

Why is the discipleship of children important?

I heard with piano lessons it doesn’t pay to start early, because after they learn to read they can learn in a couple of months what it would have taken years to teach couldn’t we just wait, start at 12 and more effectively use our time?

Mini: Are You Complaining? 23 Nov 202300:03:38

It's easy to spot in children, but am I guilty of complaining too? The goal of this verse is to remind us that there is something bigger we give our lives to than getting our own way. The way we endure suffering and inconvenience is the testimony we have to the world.

72. How to Study the Bible Without a Bible Study with Felicity Carswell17 Oct 202300:20:09

If you're like me you've read the Bible and you've done Bible studies, but you wonder how people take notes and study the Bible without any direction.

Today Felicity walks me through how she has learned to study the Bible. For reference, I'm going to include the notes I took during this conversation. These are now written in the back of my Bible to help guide me through future studies.

"What is happening?" Take the time to jot an outline as you go to help you slow down and focus on each piece.

Pick out repeated words

"How does this tie to the Old Testament?"

"What makes me uncomfortable?"

Homeschool questions that Elizabeth uses with her kids but realized would help with Bible study.

  • I notice...
  • I wonder...
  • That reminds me of...

"What is the 'so what' for my life?"

"What is the 'so what' for an unbeliever?"

Trailer: Legacy of Faith Series!10 Mar 202500:01:05

If you listen to this podcast, I know you’re the kind of woman who wants to dig into her faith more deeply. I want to more-systematically help you do that! I’ve been working on a brand-new project called the “Legacy of Faith” series.

Over the next several episodes, we are going to walk through the life of a woman of faith womb to tomb. Walking out faith is compared in the New Testament as a race. We would never dream of waking up one morning and just going to run a marathon. We would learn about what it takes to train effectively and learn from people who’ve already runraces. Then we would begin to change our habits, no matter where we were on the “couch to marathon” spectrum. That’s what I want to do together the next few weeks.

Let’s hear from a variety of believers both men and women atdifferent ages and stages to see how they are running the race. I believe this will help strengthen our faith even if their stage is different from our own. This will help us walk out the gospel more effectively. So invite a Christian sister to join you and let’s dig in.

71. How to Find a Deep Bible Study with Lydia Brownback 10 Oct 202300:19:24

64. Cultivating Intimacy in Marriage with Ike Miller22 Aug 202300:20:18

We all come to our relationships with the experiences that happened in our past, and also the things that have happened to our spouse. Maybe we see how those situations affect us and our marriage or perhaps we are unaware. Today Ike and I are talking about the baggage we bring to relationships. Not as a way to berate ourselves or our partner, but to lean into the tools our past has given to us, and heal from the places that that are causing continued cycles of struggle.

God of Promise: You Are Free of Guilt Under His Grace!06 Mar 202500:06:05

He put his Spirit on them to guide them. Before the law was taught to people and it was a standard to which they were held. Now the law of God was written on their hearts. God’s Spirit was in them to whisper conviction of sin, but also to cause his nature to grow from them. We see in Galatians 5:22-23 that what grows from a person who is marked by the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience... etc.

At the creation of this new covenant, Jesus sat with his disciples, ate with them, and gave them a new ceremony as a reminder. When they ate together they were to remember his promise. So we eat the Lord’s Supper. It reminds us of his payment, presence, and the promise of the kingdom to come.

56. Why we Need to Teach Kids the WHOLE Bible! interviewed by Kaytra Sundem13 Jun 202300:19:49

We tend to teach kids as if they are simple, and it often causes them to be bored. What if we taught them with the assumption that they are intelligent and can make connections? Today I'm interviewed by my friend Kaytra. We chat about how I got involved in children's ministry, and how the way I see teaching kids about God has changed over the years. My goal then was to get them "saved". My goal now is to know the Bible, because to know Jesus is to fall in love with Him!

Remembering God in a Distracted World with Katie Westenberg06 Jun 202300:19:50

Our lives are loud and a new notification always reminds us of something we are missing. How do we remember God when he isn't something that yells for attention or pings our phone? Katie Westenberg encourages us to focus on what truly matters and gives us tools to remember God. We think that distractions are new but she reminds us that our struggles are connected to people through time and that the Bible has resources to help us recall God's faithfulness.

126. Lift Your Eyes and Find His Rest with Whitney Newby04 Mar 202500:21:56

The other day someone posted something like "If you'll just take the time to get organized, life will be easier." Usually, I would find that to be true and agree with it. When I read the post, I had spent 6 hours the day before cleaning, and looked around me; kid clutter was everywhere.  The daily demands of motherhood at face value don't seem like much, but like a steady dripping, it can become overwhelming. I've followed Whitney for a while and know not everything has been easy for her, but it's lovely to watch her turn trials into worship.

Early in my 20s, I had a series of wildly unjust things happen. I've since been able to recognize them as really unhealthy behaviors. But during that time Psalm 16 became a favorite. What led you to love 121? -

When I became a mom, I thought I would be AMAZING. It's so hard to know how sleep deprivation and very demanding humans will impact you. My mother-in-law told me, "I didn't know how sinful I was until I became a mom." I smiled to myself thinking I had strong self-control. For the first kid and the first couple years I coped okay, but as years ticked on I started to realize exactly how true her statement was. How do you think faith can help a mom navigate the difficult days?

I've noticed what I think about changes the way I walk through a day. Are there some things you meditate on that help your mood?

When things get hard there is the temptation to stay at home, buckle down, and batten the hatches. Do you find that to be helpful or does it end up making things worse?

How can Psalm 121 encourage us to keep moving forward?
