| SUNANDBASS Podcast #72 - Hugh Hardie | 01 Jun 2018 | 01:04:11 | |
Hospital’s Bristol via Cambridge recruit @Hugh-Hardie steps up for SUNANDBASS Podcast #73.
Already building a strong following for his upfront soul music, the young talent has in the last couple of years become a firm pillar in the soulful Drum & Bass scene. His name stands for beautiful compositions that tick all the boxes for home listening whilst still retaining a certain dancefloor je na sais quoi.
Currently busy in the studio (when not on busting moves on his board), Hugh has kindly taken the time to put together our latest Podcast, and has chocked it full of exclusives from both his peers and himself. Dig in!
| SUNANDBASS Podcast #71 - Neptune | 01 May 2018 | 00:57:44 | |
New month, new podcast. SUNANDBASS Podcast #71 comes from @DJNeptune.
Known for releases on labels such as Astrophonica, Droppin' Science, Inperspective, Bassbin and Hospital to name a few, Neptune’s music combines funky rhythms and emotive strings with traditional sampling techniques and technological basslines.
Neptune is one half of the dynamic duo Fracture & Neptune, who set up Astrophonica in the early 2000s to showcase their visions of what the music was and what they thought it could become. It is now home to daring artists who share that same flair for rhythm and space, enjoy risk-taking and a have thirst for the new.
Last summer, Neptune played his maiden set at SUNANDBASS and tore down the dancefloor with his neurofunk sounds of the late ‘90s. This mix continues in that vein, showcasing some of the deeper aspects of said genre while dropping a few bangers from the time too, of course. Much like fine wine, these vintage records need to breathe; the mixes are long and the tunes are given space to do justice to the time that Drum and Bass was arguably at its peak. So please enjoy!

| SUNANDBASS Podcast #67 - DJ Lee | 05 Jan 2018 | 01:26:27 | |
@djlee is a name synonymous with quality. Known as one of the key tastemakers within the scene since the early 90s, he built up his standing and craft with residencies at some of the finest events in the land, namely Fabio and Bukem’s ‘Speed’ and the infamous Metalheadz Blue Note Sessions.
He’s also no stranger to the world of production, having released tunes on labels such as Metalheadz, Metro, 31 and Advanced in the Drum & Bass world, and also for the legendary Watergate, the Berlin based house and techno label.
Although never stepping away from the music, or losing his love for it, he held back on the DJing for some time, but luckily 2017 saw him return to the fray, and the future now promises plenty more of DJ Lee, something music should definitely be grateful for!
And here he is with nearly 90 minutes of goodness for the SUNANDBASS Podcast. A fine blend of old and new, light and smooth, it’s a perfect start to 2018.

| SUNANDBASS Podcast #59 - Blocks & Escher | 03 Apr 2017 | 00:47:15 | |
Blocks & Escher have become names synonymous with quality, depth, musicianship – but perhaps most importantly, art. Possibly a dying attribute in dance music today, yet one that could be argued is more important than ever, whether stepping into the studio individually, or as a duo, Blocks & Escher have become known as artists who truly craft their own sound and path within the confines and frameworks of both music, and Drum & Bass.
With a string of releases on quality labels, it was truly after the formation of their own Narratives label, that Drum & Bass was forced to take stock of what the duo were doing and finally get the props they had so long deserved. With an album now wrapped up and ready to drop on Metalheadz, everybody will soon be singing their praises and lifting their stock worldwide.
We’re extremely privileged they have recorded the new Podcast for us – it’s time to drop in deep with Blocks & Escher.

| SUNANDBASS Podcast #49 - Seba | 01 Jun 2016 | 00:51:38 | |
Releasing since 1997, with two LPs and countless 12“s and EPs on labels such as Good Looking, Metalheadz, Soul:R, Bassbin and his own Secret Operations label, Seba has been a tour de force in Drum & Bass for some time.
Initially known for his early, more atmospheric work with Good Looking amongst others, he’s also regularly shown other sides to his pallete, with deep, dark and heavy tracks also sitting comfortably next to his initial work. One factor often tends to remain constant though, and that is the effortless style he shows when working with breaks, a skill often seemingly lost in modern Drum & Bass.
Also a varied selector when playing live, he steps in for SUNANDBASS Podcast #49 and shows us what he’s currently up to and enjoying musically. Dive in and enjoy the sounds of Seba!
| SUNANDBASS Podcast #48 - All Crews | 10 May 2016 | 01:32:48 | |
SUNANDBASS Podcast #48 comes from 'All Crews'. Here's what they had to say about the mix:
The ethos behind All Crews is to celebrate everyone’s talents. The crew's members include: JB Raw of London From The Rooftops, DJ Chef of Kool FM, DJ Staunch from Rude FM and All Crew's author Brian Belle-Fortune. Our sun-kissed logo was designed by Nadine Minagawa and The Voice himself Mr singing Fats accompanies us on this journey through SUNANDBASS, the special festival where we all bonded. And each Crew member plays a different SUNANDBASS venue. JB Raw ushers in warm liquid La Cinta's beach vibes. Chef entertains Bal Harbour's bikini & bass, pool and palm trees. Staunch militantly marches us straight into Ripping's Darkroom. And Brian 'No Prisnors' Belle-Fortune devastates Ambra Night.
Although we all live in London, all the mixes were recorded separately by each DJ, without knowing which tracks the others were playing. So it says much that no one selected the same tune. It's down to the talents of DJ Chef, engineering the mix, ensuring all the levels were correct, arranging Fats' words punctuating the music in exactly the right places.
This is All Crew's Bad Company collective. As DJ Staunch explains, "Expect to hear the mix and with each chapter think, 'Actually it's all about this style, that's what makes this culture so special. Each soul has their own take on it and we get to tell the same story a million different ways. I know when I hear you lot spin I'm like fuck me.' "
It's an honour to be called upon to play this SUNANDBASS podcast. And it's a delight to contribute to the SUNANDBASS Family. See you in September. And remember, All Crew Muss Big Up!
| SUNANDBASS Podcast #47 - Alibi | 01 Apr 2016 | 01:04:43 | |

Under their Alibi moniker, the guys started to make big waves last year. | SUNANDBASS Podcast #45 - Bryan Gee | 01 Feb 2016 | 01:03:47
Bryan Gee has been involved in music since his youth, starting off as a reggae soundsystem selector and pirate radio DJ. After already starting a prolific DJ career, he and long time friend Jumping Jack Frost started the infamous V Recordings in around 1993.
V Recordings soon became one of the most important labels in Drum & Bass, releasing some of the first tunes from new artists like Roni Size, Dillinja, Die & Krust and many others.
He was also responsible for one of the most important weekly nights in London in the late 90’s and early 2000’s called Movement. Known as a home of brand new, quality music, this was the place to go to check out what was fresh.
This just serves to highlight what a love and ear Bryan Gee has for Drum & Bass – and this is still the case today, highlighted in his new mix for the SUNANDBASS Podcast!

Spring is in the air – and it feels like the countdown to SUNANDBASS 2015 is truly underway!

Their SUNANDBASS Podcast is typical of their style when behind the 1’s and 2’s. It’s absolutely chock full of fresh and unheard tracks – and ranges from the more melodic side of the spectrum, through to the harder and more rolling style too.

| SUNANDBASS Podcast #35 - Handy & Kred | 31 Mar 2015 | 01:15:20 | |
Long time friends of the SUNANDBASS family, Kred & Handy (aka Matt Elms and Andy Easton) have rolled out this month’s Podcast.
They’re an extended part of the family, having first attended SUNANDBASS in 2006. In 2008 they got to show people their cards musically, playing the now highly coveted opening night slot at La Posta – and it was a night to remember, with people dancing on the pool tables and slapping the walls! Since then, they’ve been back in the mix at SUNANDBASS every year.
Back in London, they help to run one of London’s finest independent Drum & Bass nights, Launch, whilst also finding time to host a weekly radio show on Origin FM.
This Podcast showcases the classic Handy & Kred style, a blend of old and new, smooth and abrassive - mixing classics with new favourites, and with the odd dub thrown in for good measure. Recorded live, they suggest you serve with a chilled Ichnusa and enjoy!

| SUNANDBASS Podcast #34 - Spirit | 02 Mar 2015 | 01:05:32 | |
His set at SUNANDBASS 2014 literally took the roof off of Ambra Night – a killer selection expertly put together – Spirit’s set was red hot and so it was a no brainer to get him back for the Podcast.
An important pillar of the Drum and Bass scene, Duncan Busto aka Spirit has been putting out essential tracks since 1996 on a whole host of labels including Metalheadz, CIA, Renegade Hardware and his own Inneractive imprint amongst many others.
His SUNANDBASS Podcast showcases yet more strings to his bow – the first half made up of some of his favourite new deeper cuts, expertly woven together and illustrating his interest in a whole range of music and a style people might not expect. In the second half it’s time for an education, ‘Spirit’ style, as he takes us back to the early doors of Jungle and Drum and Bass – this one’s going to be on rotation for a while to come for sure!
