Way back in 2017, our 4th episode we ever had was with Pat Williams. He was one of my favorite authors but he had an amazing story as you can read below. On July 17, 2024, Pat Williams passed away at the age of 84. The sports world lost a legend. He had a lot of great insights in this episode. We hope you enjoy. RIP Pat. Clark Kellogg is one of the most respected voices covering college basketball today. The CBS Sports analyst was once a top college basketball player at Ohio State University, where he earned All-Big Ten Conference honors and won the Big Ten Most Valuable Player award in 1982. After his junior year at Ohio State, he declared for the 1992 NBA draft and was selected eighth overall in the first round by the Indiana Pacers, and named to the NBA All-Rookie first team in 1983 after averaging 20.1 points and 10.6 rebounds. But his NBA career was cut short after just four seasons due to knee injuries, and he was forced to retire in 1986 at the age of 25. Clark began his broadcasting journey with ESPN in 1990, and in 1993 he moved to CBS Sports, where he has worked since. He was selected to lead the NAIA program in 2020 and proceeded to win 176 games in his first four years (which included a shortened Covid season). Sheetinger guided the Grizzlies to the 2021 NAIA World Series title, marking the program's first national championship. He was named the Skip Bertman National Coach of the Year from the Collegiate Baseball Foundation. He is the first NAIA coach to earn the prestigious award since it was founded in 2013. Sheetinger also spent three seasons as head coach at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, posting an 86-43 record, including a school-record 33 victories at the NCAA Division III level in the 2013 season, and three conference postseason tournament appearances. From 2015-2019 he served as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves. His coaching experiences also include being director of baseball operations at NCAA Division I University of Kentucky for three seasons, the lead assistant coach at NCAA Division II St. Joseph’s College (Indiana) for two seasons, and assistant coach with NAIA programs at Brescia University (Kentucky) and Georgetown College (Kentucky). Since recording this episode back in 2018, Phil Hellmuth has won two more World Series of Poker Championships increasing his total to 17. When we talked to him, he was already well ahead of all other players in the history of the game. He has now further distanced himself from the competition easily answering the question of who is the greatest tournament poker player of all-time. ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES Nobody has won more World Series of Poker championships than Phil Hellmuth Jr. He won his 15th WSOP Bracelet in the summer of 2018, which puts him far ahead of Phil Ivey, Johnny Chan, and Doyle Brunson (who all have 10 bracelets). Hellmuth also holds the record for most cash finishes and most final table appearances at the World Series of Poker. In 1989, the 24-year old Hellmuth became the youngest person ever to win the WSOP Main Event when he defeated legendary Johnny Chan. “The Poker” Brat as he is known for his colorful and competitive personality, was elected to the Poker Hall of Fame in 2007. He has also written a New York Times best-seller (“Play Poker Like the Pros”), as well as his autobiography (“Poker Brat”). Hellmuth also is very active in raising funds for charities. He has raised more than $50 million in his lifetime for charitable causes and organizations. A few years ago, we had the privilege of talking with Mike Hamilton, the former University of Tennessee athletic director. He was a very well-respected administrator and leader. More importantly, he was a person of great integrity. Unfortunately, Mike passed away on November 10, 2023 while awaiting a liver transplant. He will be greatly missed. We are extremely thankful for all that he did to make a difference in the world. He left quite a legacy and impacted many people (not just in athletics). Today's episode is a replay of his popular episode from 2017. He told some great stories from the SEC and provided us with great leadership insights. It's well worth your time to listen. ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES... Mike Hamilton is the Executive Director of Show Hope, a position that he has held since December 2014. Show Hope is an orphan care and adoption ministry started by Christian music entertainer Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth. A man of deep faith, Mike has extensive experience in leadership and development, serving 26 years in intercollegiate athletics at Clemson University, and Wake Forest University. Most notably, he was the athletic director at the University of Tennessee and their $105 million budget. Mike also served on the board for Show Hope, as well as other local, regional, and national nonprofits. Mike is also the CEO and Founder of Winfred-Henry Partners, LLC, which provides athletic consulting. Mike and his wife, Beth, live in the Nashville area and have five children through adoption.
