In episode 3 of season 13, I chat with Georgie Vicars, founder of Jamoo. Like’s the label’s name suggests, Jamoo and Georgie alike are one of a kind. Inspired by the Australian coast, Jamoo is a playful pastiche of the past presenting itself in patch-worked pieces put together from a legion of repurposed towels Georgie has hunted, hoarded and handpicked. While Georgie likes to live in a moment and may still be mapping out her ensuing adventures, Jamoo stands as a reflection of her free childhood spent barefoot on the beach and sailing in the pacific paired with her care for craft and her talent for textiles. Amped up by sustainable ethics and a reverence for all things retro, the fabric of Georgie’s style and her story is one that feels bold yet benevolent, carefree but kind, and both cool and warm all at the same time. 

In the finale of season three, I chat with Rosie Cremer, better known as burlesque stage sensation Rosie Rivette. While Rosie may be famous for baring it all, what clothes she puts on prove to be as revealing as what she takes off. Rosie’s colourful style references the great pin-up girls of the past, not just for their girly glamour but for their kookiness, curves, and comedy. And while Rosie may take inspiration from days of old, she offers a modern magic to both her personal and performance spaces by planning a little of the unpredictable, paying it forward, and providing a playful energy that always aims to please. In episode five of season three, I chat with actor and model Christian Wilkins, infamous son of Aussie TV legend Richard Wilkins and humble ambassador of the Wayside Chapel Op Shop. While Christian wears many hats he proudly holds the crown of his princely moniker with his defining long locks, love of all things sparkles and hopelessly romantic desire for good to triumph over evil. His life however is not pure fantasy.  While he does love to live by the pleasure principle, it’s his quick, self-deprecating wit, desire to spark joy, and commitment to community that are the defining elements of this Prince’s shiny, sequin-wearing style. In episode four of season three, I chat with Penny Lawson, self-diagnosed curd nerd, and owner of Potts Point’s favourite fromagerie, Penny’s Cheese Shop. Like any good cheese, Penny’s style is a recipe of simple ingredients with signature flavours that offer a little bit of bite while evoking the wholehearted country goodness of where they hail from. And while she’s travelled far and wide and her signature style includes French Breton stripes and Kansas-connotative red shoes, Penny is a proud proponent of Australia and its produce and proves it’s her style to ensure there’s no place like home. In episode three of season three, I chat with prolific portrait photographer, Gary Heery. Gary is known for capturing iconic images of iconic people but his more recent work offers the same insightful lens to more humble forms of physical life. Whether it be flowers, birds, or the wonderful ways of the Wayside Chapel, Gary has a universal ability to embrace all walks of life and capture the true essence of character. And while Gary is not into labels, whether it be on his clothes or in person, his style like his work, is eclectic, straight-shooting, and always able to draw you into a story. In episode two of season three, I chat with Tyrel Dulvarie, a proud Yirriganydji man and dancer with the Bangarra Dance Theatre. Bangarra’s mission is to create inspiring experiences that change society however Tyrel is doing this all on his own. Hailing from far North Queensland, Tyrel has always dreamt big and dance has been his vehicle to see the world. While Tyrel embraces his history and connection to family, dance has given him the spin to express his unique flair for fashion and be a source of inspiration to those who want to embrace the bold and the beautiful. In episode one of season three, I chat with Bianca Raess, vintage fashion maestro and coordinator of the Wayside Chapel Op Shop. While Bianca stands as a beloved fixture in the Wayside community, graciously serving both those who give and those in need, her own life has travelled a varied path that has seen her take on diverse roles ranging from fruit picker to young mum to aspiring actress. Bianca’s fashion choices may also have followed various twists and turns but it’s always been her style to consider community and add a little vintage charm to her look. It’s needless to say that 2020 has been a challenging year for most but a personal highlight has been finding my new creative home in the historic district of Potts Point in Sydney. For Season 3 of Style Stories I wanted to honour this vibrant community and celebrate coming together.

What better way to do this than to partner with a community organisation that brings life and laughter to those who need it most, like the Wayside Chapel, the heart and soul of Potts Point, a Sydney village which has been likened to New York and Paris.

Like these great cities, Wayside joyfully embraces diversity and brings together all walks of life in many creative ways but notably through it’s Op Shop, which is renown for being a treasure trove of donated designer digs as well as a vital source of support for the organisation.

Of course I talk all things style with my guests this season however I also hope to honour their stories by highlighting their contribution to their community not only through their creative pursuits but by looking good, feeling good and most significantly doing good.

To help introduce Season 3, I spoke with CEO and Pastor of the Wayside Chapel, Jon Owen, whose human spirit and contribution to community echoes through all the upcoming episodes of Style Stories. I hope you can sit back relax and enjoy our conversation.
