Once you realize this isn’t about rearranging your environment or your outer world so that you can be at peace, but rather, this is about a deeper freedom within you already…

For years, I journaled on the same four issues: weight, love, jobs, and friendships. Until one day I realized it wasn’t about the problems I was trying to solve... it was all of the type of thoughts I was thinking ABOUT the problem that kept me IN the problem with no resolution!

Journaling doesn’t solve your problems, at least not the conventional method of how most Stressed Out Successes use journaling.

Don't get me wrong, it certainly provides momentary relief and the occasional AHA, but when we don't resolve the deeper WHY  behind the problem, typically, the problem resurfaces wearing a new suit of clothes.

Why is it that some people are able to resolve problems quickly while others get stuck feeling stressed out and confused as to what to do next?

One of the biggest reasons for this is because most Stressed Out Successes are unaware of the two phases of working through a problem.

Phase One is where most people get stuck.

They recycle past evidence of what was possible for them and equally recycle future worst case scenarios that limit what options they can take today. And without catching those terrible thoughts, they will continue to believe what their brain is telling them without ever questioning the quality of those “logical” sounding thoughts.

In order to become Stressproof, our goal is to reach Phase Two quickly.

And this is the phase where you must decide to BECOME a different person.

Oftentimes indulging in our own illogical fear prevents us from taking action, which then results in future pain.

For example, if you’ve ever needed to hire someone but the fear of hiring the WRONG person keeps you from making the hire, the pain you eventually feel (whether that’s burnout from working longer hours, dealing with customer service, or slow growth) drives you to take action immediately.

That is because pain drives action.

But what I want to pose on this episode this week is, why not take action sooner and save yourself from future pain?

Oftentimes we have trouble letting go of the past because of how we think it’s affecting us now.

We say to ourselves:

"If that work incident never happened then I'd be more confident."

"If only I had handled it differently... I'd be in a completely different place."

"I can't believe I did that again."

The truth is, the past no longer exists.

But what DOES exist is our thoughts about the past NOW.

And until we learn how to complete the past, we will continue to use our limited time and energy trying to manage the past instead of creating our future.

Most stressed out successes believe that abundance is right around the corner.

“Once I get that promotion, then I’ll really feel good.”

“Once I make this much, then I’ll feel more secure.”

“Once I meet my partner, I’ll feel loved and life will be an adventure!”

Can you relate too?

Here’s the thing…

This backwards way of thinking is keeping many struggling successes STRESSED and further away from their goal!

And this is because things in the FUTURE do not make you feel abundance.

THINGS cannot make us FEEL anything and that is because things simply sit somewhere either physically or virtually.

Materially you may have an abundance of THINGS. But things do not create how you feel on a day to day basis.

Feeling abundance comes from your thinking.

Which is why Bob who earns the same as Sally can be freaking out and Sally is feeling more abundant than ever.

You can feel whatever you want to feel without requiring any THING first.

In order to feel it NOW you have to start managing your brain and understand how to think ON PURPOSE.

Restlessness isn’t an easy feeling to deal with.

Let's be real.

In fact, when we DO feel it, most stressed successes constantly feel the need to fill their time.

And when they can’t find anything to fill their time, this feeling of restlessness typically leads to feeling even more confused and ashamed about their life, overeating, pouring the extra glass of wine, scrolling their phone for someone to reach out to, or turning to work on miscellaneous, low priority tasks at work to pass the time.

Here's the thing.

If we were to take the time to genuinely LOOK at restlessness, it can reveal to us how we really feel about three major areas of our life: our future, how capacity to like who we are, and whether or not we’re catching unintentional thoughts.

Because the truth is, constantly giving in to restlessness only leads to more restlessness since we’re simply trying to outrun who we are and/or our biggest fears.
