Today, I briefly update what’s new on the Substack this week, along with some info about new series in the works. I also talk about my personal favorite photographer – Mary Ellen Mark.

Then, I chat a bit about my last two photowalks, and an informal portraiture workshop that I participated over the last weekend. And finally, some stream of consciousness about the direction of my work (away from “street” and toward documentary).

Today, I touch on Wednesday's photowalk on a dreary, damp, dark morning in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona (which included a handful of street portraits).

I also spend a couple of minutes talking about my process for creating “straight out of camera” RAW files (getting the SOOC JPEG look as a base for my RAW file edits), as well as just how important the human connection is to me in my work.

Welcome to the Street Photography Field Notes podcast – an extension of my Substack which aims to share my process behind making photographs on the street. 

My intention is to build this out further as we go: intro music and segments; polish it up. However, today, I just wanted to get started. So here we are!

In Episode 001, I walk through the why behind the podcast, reflection on my photowalk from the day, and then finish with a brief discussion about photographing hardship on the streets.
