| Learning Pet Nutrition Science: How Four Cats Taught This Couple Everything About Pet Food | 10 Nov 2025 | 00:35:28 | |
Learning Pet Nutrition Science may be easier than you realize. In this episode, I sit down with Holly Baer from Superior Feline to explore the world of homemade pet nutrition. Holly's journey began when her own cats faced serious health challenges—kidney disease, fish allergies, and inflammatory conditions that commercial foods couldn't address. What started as a desperate search for solutions became a mission to help cat parents everywhere take control of their pets' nutrition. From Crisis to Solution Holly's husband, a microbiologist, dove deep into research when their beloved cat Coconut developed kidney disease. What they discovered changed everything about how they approached feline nutrition. But Superior Feline goes beyond just food mixes. They've developed a complete system including omega-3 oils (both fish and plant-based options), postbiotics for gut health, and liver powder toppers for picky eaters. What you'll learn in this episode:
Husband and Wife team, Eric and Holly Baer, founded Superior Feline because of the positive, physical results they saw from making homemade cat food for their two cats, Coconut and Luna Belle, who had health issues. They started Superior Feline with the main goal of providing quality, science-based, affordable products that aren't built around marketing, but around the true pursuit of real results and long-term health for fur family. | Securing a Future for Our Fur Families: Planning for Our Pet's Care | 28 Apr 2024 | 00:23:22
Taking care of our pets is something most pet parents take great pride in; however, we don’t always plan for the “what if’s”. Thinking about what would happen to our pets if we were no longer able to care for them is SO important. Yet, no one wants to think about death and dying, but if something happened to you and you were in the hospital or worse, who will care for your pets? I, Julie Marty-Pearson, dive into this topic with my friend, fellow podcaster, and Fur Mom Rebecca Johnson. Rebecca shares her heartfelt journey through the loss of her husband and the subsequent intertwining of joy and challenge with her canine companions mirrors the complex bond we all share with our pets. As we unraveled Rebecca's story, we were reminded of the individual personalities pets have, how they align with ours, and the importance of cherishing these connections, especially during life's unexpected turns. Rebecca Johnson is the vibrant voice behind 'Love is Not Dead, Just My Husband,' a podcast crafted to uplift and empower widows on their unique paths of healing and rediscovery. As a widow herself, Rebecca has faced some of life's toughest challenges with unwavering resilience, including overcoming multiple losses and living with an incurable cancer. Through her podcast, Rebecca weaves personal triumphs with heartfelt stories, diving into the transformative journey of widowhood finding joy in life and loss. | Let's Talk Compassion Fatigue, Cat Behavior and More! | 19 Jan 2023 | 00:44:29
Welcome to another episode of the Story of My Pet podcast! Today, I've been joined by Molly Kelsey from Auckland, New Zealand. Molly is an avid foster and former vet nurse who has worked with animals for over 10 years in companion animal practice and volunteering in both New Zealand and overseas. Last year, she completed her postgrad studies in feline behavior and now runs her own cat behavior consulting business. Molly lives with her partner and their rats, and in her free time, she enjoys listening to true crime podcasts, and doing embroidery. She has a lot of experience in the animal industry, and she'll be sharing her story with us today. Molly’s work as the Cat Counsellor centers around teaching owners to understand their cats better and help them thrive in their environment. Molly started fostering animals when she was 17 and worked in the veterinary field for three years before taking a break due to illness. She decided to become a cat behaviorist after seeing a lot of cats suffer mentally and their owners not understanding why, as well as the lack of qualified people to help in this area. | My First Foster Kitten Binx | 01 Nov 2022 | 00:27:27
Trigger Warning! This episode discusses death, grief and loss, and emotional stories of pet loss. In this episode, I (your host Julie Marty-Pearson) talk about my experience fostering for the first time. I currently volunteer for my local animal shelter and recently decided I wanted to try fostering a kitten for the first time. I was given Bryce, aka Binx, to bring home and care for. He was a 5-week old kitten found alone, outside. When he was brought to the shelter he was covered in fleas and severely malnourished. He was dehydrated and anemic from all the fleas. My job as his Foster Mom was to give me a safe, comfortable, and loving home. I fed him, give him his medicine (iron) and monitored his progress and behavior. In this unedited episode, I tell the story of Binx and how the 5 days he lived with me changed my life forever. My local animal shelter is Kern County Animal Services, located in Bakersfield, CA. In Episode 6 of The Story of My Pet Podcast I welcome my guest, Carolyn Smith-Keune. Carolyn, a Doctor of Marine and Molecular Biology, has worked as a marine biologist on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia for almost a decade. Later in her career she switched to working in Aquaculture Genetics research when she started her family, where she manages a genetics research lab (predominately animal and plant genetics). Currently on leave of absence to heal from past trauma and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), Carolyn soon turned to the family dog Gigi for support. Having always been a dog, fish and coral person, she has been strongly bonded to the animals in her life. Gigi, a red poodle, utilized her canine instinct to realize the support and therapy she could provide Carolyn. Now never far from her side, Gigi will become an officially trained service dog in the coming months. The organization we discuss in this episode, which Carolyn and her family have rescued a dog through. The Angel Paws Inc Animal Rescue located in Townsville, NQ.
