S3E13 Surviving Category 5 Hurricane Melissa03 Dec 202501:10:06

Storm chaser Max Olson joins us on this episode of the StormReel podcast to talk about his harrowing experience chasing the monstrous and historic Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 beast whose 185mph sustained winds devastated the island of Jamaica. As the eyewall moved in, Max and his chase partners found themselves in survival mode after barricading their door shut with furniture. Hunkered down in the bathroom, they could only listen as the world outside their shelter was ripped apart. Max also shares the story behind the most iconic and intense storm surge video ever captured after he placed a remote camera in the path of Hurricane Ian in 2022. Unbeknownst to Max at the time, his camera had filmed an epic story of survival as a couple and their dogs were swept away by storm surge while still inside their home. It's an episode you don't want to miss!

S2E7 Central Texas Mayhem26 Apr 202201:13:54

After a long break, the Tornado Trackers Podcast is back with a new episode detailing the reasons for the long break along with a behind-the-scenes look at two epic storm chasing days from this spring. Jeff and Gabe share stories from the busy start to the 2022 Central Texas tornado season and what went into tracking two tornadoes that occurred too close to home: the March 21st Round Rock - Granger EF2 and the April 12th Salado EF3.

The long-track Round Rock - Granger tornado was a pivotal moment for the team as Jeff and Gabe were able to, for the first time, live stream a close range intercept on the local news, giving residents real-time visuals of the rare, large tornado that remained on the ground for over 35 miles.

S2E6 Bloopers and Busts07 Dec 202100:55:15

Cue the sad trumpet. In this episode of the Tornado Trackers Podcast, the team shares a few examples of when  storm chases did not go according to plan.  From struggling  to even get out the door, to unexpectedly ending up under water, to an ill-timed stomach bug - these are the stories of chases gone bad.

Editor's Note: In this episode we mentioned that there were no High Risk days this year. In fact, there were two: March 17, 25. We were thinking of 2020 where there were no High Risk days issued by the Storm Prediction Center. But 2021 feels like an extension of 2020, so there's that.

In the premiere episode of the Tornado Trackers Podcast Season 2, the team discusses one of the highlights of the 2021 tornado season. After an encounter with a majestic wild animal, they jokingly determined the day would be a success. But as the afternoon evolved, the two storm chasers realized they were in prime position for a localized tornado outbreak.

S1E9 The Goodbye Video - Canton, TX Outbreak (Part I)06 Apr 202100:48:07

In Part I of a special two-part series, the Tornado Trackers share one of their most frightening storm chasing experiences during the surprise regional tornado outbreak that ravaged Canton, TX on April 29, 2017. When Gabe's car slides off the road near a mile-wide tornado, he's stuck in a flooded ditch having last seen the now rain-wrapped tornado coming straight for him. The only thing he can do is make a goodbye video to his family and take cover in the car.

In this episode, the team becomes transparent about the mistakes that landed them in a terrifying situation where Jeff and Gabe  become separated as multiple tornadoes threatened their lives. This cautionary tale serves as an example of how personal motives can deeply effect the outcome of a chase.

The Tornado Trackers recount filming a tornado in Fort Stockton, TX on May 17, 2019 during what became the perfect storm chase. On a day where most storm chasers targeted the McCook, Nebraska tornado, Jeff and Gabe were forced to stay close to home and target SW Texas. A slow-moving supercell provided a little bit of everything, from giant hail to incredible storm structure, to a nearly stationary tornado. S3E6 The 10,000 Foot Tall Tornado26 Aug 202500:58:10

The family that chases together, stays together; and they have a great story to tell! On this episode of the StormReel podcast, Gabe and Jeremy invite a very special guest to talk about her first tornado experience. Jeremy's wife, Jane, shares how she accidentally intercepted one of Colorado's most notable landspouts on June 7, 2021, when a 10,000ft tall EF2 tornado emerged from a nearby storm on Jane's commute home.

Meanwhile miles away, while out for a walk with his daughter, Jeremy received word of the tornado and decided to get a (safe) view with his daughter and dog. What started as a normal afternoon, turned into an eventful family-wide tornado encounter for the Hamanns and one of our favorite stories to tell. Join us for a fun and memorable episode of StormReel!
