The corporate feminism hot term of 2024 is “The Broken Rung.”   In this episode, we review what the broken rung is,and how corporate feminists got it wrong with the glass ceiling metaphor initially.   Also, we are curious if you are as dissatisfied with the advice for company’s the women in the workplace report provided, or if it’s just us!  We get into what we think corporations could do if they really wanted to address the broken rung and increase diversity across all levels in corporate America.

We Review of the groundbreaking book Eve: How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution. JoCee’s shares why this may be her favorite book ever, and she provides an overview of her favorite parts of the book which were; an overview of how childbirth impacts the female body, Gynecology and how it drove the use of tools, and menopause.   

In the rest of the episode JoCee also teaches us about what actually caused the dinosaurs to go extinct, and Kara shares tips on how to build your professional and personal network.

This episode has two topics! First STEM fun facts about bumblebees, then some career advice!  Our STEM topic is the bumble bee paradox.  JoCee explains why it’s ridiculous and the science behind why bumble bees fly!  Then we hard pivot ino career advice from Kara around how giving thoughtful feedback can progress your career, or at least help out your teammates.

Do you remember all that drama about Hillary Clinton’s emails in 2016?  If you’re like most of the world, you probably recall something about deleted emails, and maybe think she got caught doing something wrong.  JoCee gets into the not-so-salacious details of the scandal, and uses her background in computer engineering to walk through what actually happened.

Did you know there was an event this April in the U.S. that only happens every 100 years or so here?  Millennials may have a few things going against them, but one thing we do have in our favor is total solar eclipses viewable in the U.S.   Kara went to both and is in the #twiceinalifetime club.   In this episode we give an overview of the science, history, and watching experience of total solar eclipses.

Newsflash: onboarding doesn’t have to be painful!  We review  some actions managers can/should do to improve onboarding for their employees,  as well as what you can do as an individual to onboard effectively, and build community while doing it!
