Repeat as "Best Of" Series: Back in 1987, a local TV station KXTV #10, did a 1/2 special on standup comedy based on my Laughs Unlimited clubs. Mike Garza Produced & Directed, Jonathan Mumm Hosted, and many comics, Pros & Amateurs were interviewed. Lots of standup taped live, and comics like Dennis Wolfberg, his wife Jeanie McBride, Lois Bromfield, Jimmy Burns, Moe Betterman, Rick Pulido, Don Hepner, and several other local acts shared jokes and talked about the business of comedy.
Really interesting, and the fact that it is dated doesn't come through at all...solid entertainment and conversation. Enjoy!

On this the 44th Anniversary of the week I opened my chain of comedy clubs, Laughs Unlimited, here is a show featuring several of the acts who performed for me...Comic/Musician Sam Guttman (regular out of SF), TV Star Dennis Miller, SF Competition Winner (1980) Michael Pritchard, and closing the very firt Headliner for my club, and the "King of Las Vegas", George Wallace. he had is own theater in Vegas for almost two decades...very funny standup comic.

On this show I interview one of the newer comics working the road...Steven Mays is technically still an amateur; but he has done stage time from his Hometown of Houston Texas to New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and more! A rising, fairly clean, comic who makes time to travel and work stages all over the country. What is unusual is, Steven has kept his "Day Job" and yet gets on stage every time and everywhere he can; and in doing so, finds he has the ability to entertain audiences of all types and at all locations. That is a talent!

Steven Mays, born and raised in Houston, Texas, has been captivating audiences with his stand-up comedy for about seven years, all while maintaining a full-time job as a technician. Despite not yet making comedy his career, Steven is motivated and determined to secure more road gigs across the country and build his network to eventually create his own tour. He acknowledges that one of the hardest challenges in his comedy journey has been overcoming his initial timidness on stage, yet he is continuously working on being more fearless and authentic in his performances. Driven by the joy of making audiences smile, Steven sees comedy as a way to spread laughter and entertainment, fueling his passion and motivation in the industry.

Here is some standup comedy recorded during a live show from 1984 starring Comic/Magician Mark Kornhauser, also sharing some comedy, John Carfi and Perry Kurtz. I am sharing small parts of each comics act to let you hear how the standup material and audience participation made it a fun night for the Thursday audience.
Mark was Nationally known and was touring with the band "Sha Na Na", John was a writer for Joan Rivers, and Perry Kurtz was the Annual Host for San Francisco's "Exotic Erotic Ball" held every New Years. 

Perry Kurtz, John Carfi, and Mark Kornhauser are recognized figures in the comedy scene, each with their unique style and approach to comedy and magic. I found some very old recordings on cassette tape I wanted to share with my audience...
On this Bonus Show you will here a rare recording of Dana Carvey (doing a little Ross Perot impressions) from the 1992 Republican Convention. What makes this special is he mentions my name a couple times...very funny! Also, I am sharing an old radio promo for a Bobcat Goldthait club visit, and then a short set recorded live of Bobcat!
Loads of laughs and history here...enjoy!

Bobcat Goldthwait, famous for his direct and loud comedic approach, gained recognition in the mid-eighties comedy circuit, particularly at Laughs Unlimited in Citrus Heights, performing alongside fellow comedian Dana Carvey. Threading a line of self-deprecating and sarcastic humor, Goldthwait was unafraid to tackle controversial topics such as politics, but always with a comedic twist, making his performances unique and memorable. Similarly, Carvey polished his skills at the same comedy club before his iconic stint on Saturday Night Live, with his talent for impersonations shining through, evident from his representation of a local talk show at the 1992 Republican Convention. Both comedians have a profound respect for their comedy club roots, with Carvey expressing his appreciation publicly, showcasing the comedy club's significant influence on their careers.

Another solid interview; but this time on the fringe of Comedy as I interview Musician/Producer/Author Dick Bright. From his stories about music of Ella Fitzgerald, BB King, Joel Grey, & Huey Lewis to his comedy connection with Jack Gallagher, Bruce Baum, and Robin Williams; Dick has worked with the best! He also started the "Bammies" in the Bay Area, and acted in the movie "Mrs Doubtfire". His new Book "Work'n For A Livin" is out and a solid guide for musicians of all ages.

Dick Bright, a world-class violinist and music producer, has a music career deeply entrenched in his family background, as he learned his craft from his father, a music teacher. Dick's perception of his career in music is one filled with enjoyment, meaningful relationships, and life-changing experiences such as introducing Huey Lewis to Ella Fitzgerald. He maintains that working in the music industry should be not just profitable but also pleasurable and fulfilling. His background and experiences, including co-leading a rock band and co-creating a music award show, have led him to value the importance of a supportive and positive environment in the music industry. Through his book, "Working for a Living: How to Make It in the Music Business," he passes on these beliefs to aspiring musicians, emphasizing the significance of fun and decent earnings in pursuing a music career.

Wow! Going deep into the archives to find this live recording of Garry Shandling performing in 1980. He was a club favorite at Laughs Unlimited, and long before his TV and Movie success, he worked his material out on my stages. Listen to great original material, and his audience work...so funny!
Eventually Garry Shandling (Deceased) went on to Star in the "Garry Shandling Show" and the "Larry Sanders Show", along with many movie appearances...including "Iron Man".

This was a Special interview with Tom Sawyer, who took over Cobb's Pub, and then created the legendary "Cobb's Comedy Club" in San Francisco. Starting in the early 80's, he ran one of the main independent comedy clubs for over 25 years. Tom then went on to be the Booker for "Live Nation" for another 7 years. This was a Special interview with Tom Sawyer, who took over Cobb's Pub, and then created the legendary "Cobb's Comedy Club" in San Francisco. Starting in the early 80's, he ran one of the main independent comedy clubs for over 25 years. Tom then went on to be the Booker for "Live Nation" for another 7 years. He knows comedy, and worked with Robin Williams, Jim Carey, Dana Carvey, Paula Poundstone, Wil Durst, Kevin Pollack, and many other talents just getting started in their careers.
